with eight days until thanksgiving, we are tracking the latest on the e.coli outbreak in carrots. we're at the farm at the center of the outbreak. we hear from one of the people who got sick. >> george: also the investigation into two explosions. one at a condo complex near detroit. this blast caught on doorbell camera footage outside cincinnati, ohio. you see it right there. >> michael: we begin with the dangerous weather on both coasts. wild fires are burning in the northeast. life threatening rain and flooding are set to hit the west coast. we have team coverage starting with mola lenghi in santa rosa, california. good morning. >> reporter: millions of people are bracing themselves throughout northern california and the pacific northwest. an onslaught of rain and wind is expected to pound the area. some areas could get as much as a foot of rain overthe next few days. wind gusts in washington state in particular have already started causing damage reaching as high as 84 miles per hour.

in the pacific northwest this morning, more than 700,000 customers are without power, potential for flooding a concern during this storm es specialfully creeks and streams and roads. right behind me here, we're keeping an eye on the santa rosa creek. this slices its way through the town of santa rosa, california, just north of san francisco. creeks like this presenting some concerns for urban flooding. flood watches are in place that have been issued by the national weather service for several north bay counties including here in sonoma county. in addition to the rain and the wind, we're also expecting to see heavy snow in the mountains, george. >> george: thanks. now trevor ault in manhattan, where a brush fire broke out. >> reporter: fire crews have been here overnight monitoring this location at a park in upper manhattan where this fire sparked up. one of thousands of fires that have popped up across the region in just a matter of weeks.

this morning the extreme drought conditions continue to choke the northeast. overnight another brush fire breaking out in new york city. firefighters rushing to douse the flames in upper manhattan. >> they've got about ten acres burning at this point. it is a second alarm blaze that they are trying to get under control. >> reporter: the mayor calling a drought warning. >> the reality is we need rain. not only here in the city but in the reservoirs. >> reporter: in massachusetts this brush fire outside boston. >> it is an extreme challenge. first for the fire fighters to drag the hose up. water up the s a challenge. >> reporter: since october massachusetts has had more than 600 wild fires, charred nearly 2,000 acres. that's an entire year's worth of fire damage in less than two months. and in this drought, new jersey's one of two reservoirs at just 44% capacity. water levels 16 feet lower than

they were this time last year. now thankfully, there is some rain expected here soon. that's gonna be very welcome. but even that could potentially bring some really big problem, as new york city officials are now activating plans for possible flash flooding. >> rebecca: ginger is tracking both coasts. >> ginger: you said bomb cyclone. the pacific northwest and the west coast get these bomb saoeubles. this one the strongest they've seen in five years because it dropped 59 millibar, more than doubling the definition. there's a lot of power with this. that's why we're concerned. not just because of the blizzard alerts, high winds, but this part. this part right here, with the life threatening flash flooding possible. there are burn scars up there in the north bay area. river flooding expected. mud and rock slides up to foot and a half of rain falling

really quickly. when we say life threatening, there's a reason for that. it's not life threatening but life helping when it comes down to the rain. it's gonna come down fast. we've got rain showers that will be heavy at times by tomorrow afternoon. maybe an inch, two inches. >> michael: we need rain. >> ginger: we sure do. >> michael: thank you very much, ginger. now the latest on the deadly e.coli outbreak. we'll hear from a woman who is suing after she got sick from eating the carrots. melissa adan is at the source of the outbreak in california. good morning, melissa. >> reporter: good morning, michael. select organic carrots coming from this central california farm have been recalled. grimmway farms says these carrots are not necessarily in the grocery stores, but they may be with your fridge. this morning health officials investigating a deadly e.coli outbreak from organic carrots that have sickened dozens. >> i had a low grade fever and just thought it was the stomach flu. it just progressively got worse

each and every day. >> reporter: 40-year-old melinda pratt from savannah, georgia, is among those who fell ill. >> the radiating back pain that came, i couldn't handle this stomach cramping any more. it was making me drip sweat. >> reporter: pratt now named in the first lawsuit against the makers of the recalled organic carrots originating from this california produce company, grimmway farms which packages carrots for wal-mart, whole foods, kroger, target, publix, trader joe's and others sold from august 14 to october 23rd. you see the trucks here full of carrots at the carrot processing facility. this is where the company is working with federal and local agencies reviewing how these carrots were grown, harvested and processed. 39 confirmed cases have been confirmed across 18 states, with 15 requiring hospitalization and one death. according to the lawsuit, pratt

was admitted to the hospital for three days. the mom of three said she's thankful none of her children ate the carrots. it comes just weeks after another e.coli outbreak linked to slivered onions forced mcdonald's to stop selling its quarter pounders in 14 states, sickening more than 100 people and killing at least one person. now grimmway farms has posted on its website the impacted carrots. george? >> george: okay, melissa, thanks. now the latest on the trump transition. the president elect is standing behind matt gaetz as pick for attorney general as the house ethics committee votes whether to vote on whether to release allegations against the former congressman. mary bruce is in west palm beach with the story. good morning, mary. >> reporter: good morning, george. donald trump's pick for attorney general is facing an uphill battle. today the bipartisan house ethics committee will meet to decide whether to vote to release its report on matt gaetz and those allegations of sexual

misconduct and illicit drug use. this morning we are learning more about the payments he allegedly made to women for sex. this morning president-elect trump is standing by his controversial pick to be his attorney general, former florida congressman matt gaetz. >> are you reconsidering the nomination of matt gaetz? >> no. >> reporter: trump, in texas alongside elon musk, to watch his space x rocket launch. the world's richest man using his mega phone to boost trump's embattled choice, posting gaetz will be our hammer of justice. but first gaetz has to get through the confirmation process. he's already been working the phones, and this morning gaetz is planning to meet with senators in person to plead his case. >> he wants a shot to be able to lay out his vision for the department and also to respond to these various allegations. i said, hey, the confirmation hearing is the place and chance to do that. >> reporter: the bipartisan house ethics committee spoke with two women who say gaetz paid them for sex. overnight abc news exclusively

obtaining financial records revealing gaetz appears to have sent the women over $10,000, including 27 venmo payments. some labeled just because, travel and extra for you. and this check for $750 made out to cash and allegedly signed by gaetz. the women testified to the committee that some of the payments were for sex. sources tell abc one of the women said she saw the congressman having sex with a 17-year-old girl. the committee also heard from that 17-year-old girl, now in her 20s. gaetz denies any wrongdoing but some republicans say they want to know more. >> i think that if they want a speedy consideration of this nomination, there's -- we gotta have as much transparency as we can have. >> there used to be legitimate vetting. when i say legitimate, i mean thorough vetting that the committees do. this is our job.

>> reporter: if trump's picks can't get enough support to be confirmed, trump's incoming deputy chief of staff said the president-elect will push for senators to forego their vetting responsibilities to get his nominee through via recess appointment. >> the president is on a mandate. he will use all lawful constitutional means to fulfill that mandate on behalf of the people who voted for him. >> reporter: gaetz, just one of several controversial cabinet picks. trump tapped robert f. kennedy jr. to be secretary of health and human services. now announcing one of kennedy's top deputies will be tv personality dr. oz. oz, who ran a failed senate campaign in pennsylvania, picked to run the centers for medicare and medicade services, overseeing millions of americans' health insurance including the obama care exchanges, a program he's criticized in the past. neither kennedy nor oz has any government experience and both have frequently clashed with medical experts.

necessary. michael? >> michael: mary, thank you very much. let's get more on the space x launch that mary mentioned there. had mixed results. our transportation correspondent gio benitez is here to explain. good morning. >> gio: michael, good morning. good morning, guys. this was the sixth time space x tested its starship. part of it was successful and part of it failed. now president-elect trump was right there with musk watching this launch for a ship that is meant to eventually take people to the moon and even mars. everything started off just fine. all 33 engines ignited sending that star ship into space. eventually the booster tasked and then the pwaoflter detatched. that, that's when it encountered some kind of issue. instead of the booster heading back to land, they changed its course, going to the gulf for a splashdown. watch this. all of this is to make sure nobody on the ground was in danger and that space x facility would not be destroyed. watch here as that booster hits the water. you see that massive explosion right there. that was expected because the booster is not meant to land in the water.

now, that evidence cannot be used. ♪ this morning a legal victory for embattled rap mogul sean diddy combs as he fights federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges. judge ordering prosecutors to destroy their copy of 19 pages of combs hand written notes obtained in a recent jail house search. combs flashed a big smile. grinning and hugging his lawyers. and for the first type, the judge allowing him to appear without shackles around his ankles. his attorneys said they were protected by attorney client privilege. prosecutors say the notes show combs was paying often a potential witness his former diddy dirty money band mate. ♪ harper had been mentioned in a civil lawsuit by band mate dawn richar. prosecutors said at least after 128 phone calls and text messages, harper posted that rashard's account should not be interpreted as a universal truth. combs has pleaded not guilty and

killed while out for a run. new video showing the 22-year-old jogging on the university of georgia campus the morning of her murder. riley veering onto a wooded trail where prosecutors say jose ibarra was hunting for women. he is ducking down. earlier this morning ibarra allegedly captured in this nearby video, peeping through windows and trying to open an apartment door. inside the courtroom, riley's mother weeping as the final text messages between her and her daughter were read outloud. >> good morning. about to go for a run if you're free to talk. >> reporter: prosecutors say by the time she tried calling her daughter back, it was too late. her mother unaware as she tried to desperately reach her daughter. >> 11:47 a.m. incoming text from her mother says please call me. i'm worried sick about you. >> reporter: a prosecution expert testified dna evidence found under riley's finger nails

another in michigan. the images here are shocking. a massive explosion rocking this condo complex in oregon township, michigan, near detroit. two people left critically injured, several families displaced. investigators say it was likely a gas leak. >> at this point in time we can say there is nobody trapped in the structure. we have been able to account for everybody. >> reporter: meanwhile outside cincinnati, ohio, investigators now reviewing this shocking doorbell footage capturing the moment a home exploded tuesday morning. >> we still have heavy fire that we're attacking at this time. >> reporter: authorities have yet to determine the cause of the blast, which sent debris flying as the house went up in flames. neighbors rushing out to see the chaos. >> it actually knocked me out of my bed. i felt the shock wave in my room. >> reporter: police say two people inside, a man and woman, were killed, and a third person was injured.

a study out of the u.k. finding getting in your cardio could delay an even reduce your risk of developing dementia. 35% in people with higher risk. they followed older adulls for 12 years. at the beginning of the study, they gave all the participants a six minute exercise test. basically pushing them to go to their near max on a stationary bike. they found over time that those with better cardio fitness, the body's about to get oxygen to your muscles, had better brain function and memory. that was true for those even with family history of dementia who had moderate to high genetic risk. researchers say the take away here, there's something that you can do right now to prevent dementia. work out. and their suggestion, a combination of both cardio and resistance training. so if you hate cardio, there is something else you can do. [ laughter ] >> lara: as post malone found out the hard way, the cma's are the biggest party in nashville. luke bryan and peyton manning are back for the third year in the row to emcee it all. but this time they're joined by none other than seven time cma winner lainey wilson. ♪ what does it now mean to be a host of the cma's?
