a flood warning for the russian river. >> always live. abc seven news starts right now. >> good evening. >> i'm ama daetz and i'm dan ashley. thanks for joining us. we have team coverage tonight. abc seven news reporter tara campbell is in san francisco. lauren martinez is in the south bay. >> that's right. we are going to start, though, with meteorologist sandhya patel. that storm packing a punch. it's a three on the exclusive storm impact scale. we've seen plenty of rain. >> flooding slides really been a doozy today. what are things looking like right now, sandhya? >> it's still going dan and ama. it's a strong storm and it is setting records. rainfall records. that is not just daily records, but three day for santa rosa. look at live doppler seven. you will notice that there is some heavy rain falling right now with this atmospheric river right around the santa cruz county area. corralitos seeing those downpours as we look at the south bay, getting you into street level radar, steady rain. you're getting your share scattered elsewhere from the east bay to the san

francisco area and in the north bay, we are still seeing the rainfall. by the way, san francisco is 24% of average on tuesday. now 118% of average. so you can see just how much we've gained. there are numerous flood watches, warnings and advisories around the bay area. let's get to the russian river at guerneville. already flooding expected to continue flooding. so that flood warning is going until sunday morning. this is a strong level three storm. we bumped it up earlier in the day. and as you look at live doppler seven, you can see it's still feeding that moisture right into the bay area. so at midnight it is raining. we'll see some brief pockets of moderate rain. tomorrow morning at 8:00. you will notice at noontime still some wet weather in the east bay and the south bay. and it doesn't end there. there could still be some isolated showers later on in the day. a level three on our exclusive abc seven news storm impact scale through tonight. flooding, rain, gusty winds downed trees, more mudslides and a chance of thunder, especially going into tomorrow morning. winds are gusty, not as strong as earlier.

we do have a wind advisory. i'll be back with that. plus a look at another system that is coming leading up to the holiday weekend. dan and ama. >> okay sandhya, thanks so much. well, this is something you don't expect to see in san francisco. a slide sends mud flowing into the streets and into a neighborhood. this is over in the glen park neighborhood near interstate 280, which saw flooding this afternoon. >> san francisco saw a deluge. and it was not just one neighborhood getting slammed. this storm. we continue our coverage with abc seven news reporter tara campbell, who joins us now live from near the embarcadero. tara. >> yeah, dan and ama. it's a much different scene right now here along the embarcadero than what we were seeing earlier today. myself and our photographer, we were all throughout the city down to san mateo county, talking with residents as they braced for this first big storm of the season from fallen trees to flooded freeways and stranded cars, heavy rain and high winds

pounding the peninsula and san francisco friday. how are the roads today? >> we're just coming to get some of the sandbags because they've got them ready to go for us. >> san francisco public works extending its hours, workers helping residents get loaded up. >> so we're going to try to patch up a leaking ramp into a garage because it's flooding right now with all the water pooling up and pooling water wreaking havoc on friday night's commute from one flooded spot to the next. >> in san mateo county, winds whipping and traffic slowed this person on a scooter trying to plow through the pouring rain. while back in san francisco, crews cleaning up from this mudslide under two 8-80 crashing down late this afternoon. >> we were commenting on how we appreciated how quickly the city was fixing it. actually because it was looking a little scary earlier today with kind of all of the mud flowing into the street. >> a little jarring, a little apocalyptic as we were. you kno,

going through our workday and looking outside the window. that's what we're seeing. yeah, you could see it from your house. yeah. >> has been very curious by the backhoe all day. >> i was surprised it was so close to my house. so then i started getting worried and nearby residents taking precautions. i'm going to move my car away from the berm and tell my neighbors to do the same, just in case more dirt comes down. i'm saying it rains. >> meanwhile, scenes like this playing out across the city. >> we are cleaning all these catch basins, what you call storm drains. these catch basins to make sure all the stormwater run into these drains so we don't get ponding. >> now, those crews will likely be out throughout tonight mitigating any of the damages done by today's downpour. now, if you are looking to get sandbags, public works will have its location open again tomorrow at 2:00. it's at kansas and marin streets here in san francisco. just don't forget your proof of address here in san francisco. you do need to

show that you are a resident to get those sandbags and hopefully they won't be as needed tomorrow. and throughout the weekend. hopefully we are through the worst of it. dan and ama. yeah, let's hope so. >> tara, thanks so much. let's stay in the city for another moment. this car was stuck in some flood water in the design district. to the driver's dismay, it was stalled out there off the intersection of henry adams street and alameda street. it appears they got some help from a truck driver to get the car slowly pushed out of that high water. >> the east bay got its share of rain. this is what it looked like this afternoon in oakland, where it was really coming down in the umbrellas were out in force in marin county. >> several lanes of eastbound traffic were flooded along sir francis drake boulevard. it appears the storm drain got clogged this afternoon near the larkspur train station. that often happens when we get this much water. at last check, a worker was there attempting to clear it as cars tried to drive around. >> despite the rain, life went on in the south bay tonight as some people made it to enchant

at paypal park in san jose. it was definitely football weather for the high school playoffs. the game went on as scheduled. >> abc7 news south bay reporter lauren martinez is live from san jose. with what it's like out there right now, lauren. >> dan and ama, we knew it was coming. the rain has been relentless all afternoon. i've been in my rain gear since two this afternoon and i haven't taken it off since. but the people we spoke to said this weather is not stopping them from enjoying their friday evening. >> we're so thrilled to have enchant back in san jose. >> lights dazzled in the rain on opening night of enchant. >> this is the closest we're going to get to snow friday evening. >> families with umbrellas in hand journeyed through a maze of christmas li cntry. nick simonss

family drove from livermore. >> we came last year and then when we knew she was coming, we got tickets a long time ago. >> we have our little sawyer here, so we thought she would like seeing all the lights tonight. >> oh, really? what does she think soht lights. it was branham high school in campbell against sacred heart in the playoffs. >> yeah, i think the rain isn't necessarily getting me as much as, like, the stress, you know, just like i want them to win this game. so i'm not worried about the rain. >> parents are used to supporting an all types of weather, they said. thankfully, it's not too cold, just wet. >> i felt like i was, well prepared and i dressed for the snow with like my kids snow jacket and rain pants leggings. >> i have hand warmers, layers and rain boots. yeah. >> earlier in the night, san jose resident darrell eggers and his dog dempsey tried to go on their walk at the right time. >> i looked at the radar on my phone app and i saw it's going to get worse. between 6 and 8 p.m. and the dog has to go out.

so let's go now before it gets even worse. he's an english labrador. he loves water. so no, i don't think it bothers him near as much as it bothers me. >> now, if you are interested in visiting enchant, they'll be open until december 29th. so plenty of nights to go if you don't want to go in the rain. live in san jose. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> all right, lauren, thank you. and something of a travel nightmare at san francisco international airport today. more than 580 flight delays and nearly 70 cancellations. there was an average ground delay of over two hours because of the winds. this was the third day in a row of weather complications there. keep an eye out for changes if you plan to fly this week. >> a section of silverado trail has reopened this evening after a temporary closure. the road was a muddy mess in between some napa wineries near yountville. the crews cleaned up the aftermath of flooding and debris that piled up there. >> weather conditions are expected to make the drive to tahoe much more dangerous than

usual this weekend. up to three additional feet of snow is expected through tuesday over the sierra. the national weather service is discouraging anyone from being on the roads, because of the chance of slick and snow covered pavement. chain controls and downed tree branches. the weather also makes travel delays through the mountains more likely. >> and we have more weather coverage ahead. a lot of eyes are on the russian river with concerns it's going to cause significant flooding. coming up, a look at the preparations and a big development with some of the protesters who face charges for blocking traffic on the golden gate bridge. san francisco is pulling out all the stops for chinatown during the holiday season. what the city is donating to businesses. >> first, a look at what's coming up tonight on jimmy kimmel live! right after abc seven news at 11. jimmy. >> watch tonight before the monkeys take over. oh ho ho ho ho ho ho ho ho.

tonight until 3 a.m. in rohnert park. two cars got stuck in high water on redwood drive. today, one person was stuck in their car. city services are continuing their work to mitigate flooding and close the affected roads. they're warning folks to avoid going in any standing water or around flood signs. just not worth the risk. even if it looks like you can do it. people are urged to only use 9-1-1 for emergencies, as they've been overwhelmed with calls in that area. as you can imagine, and the sonoma county fire district says it had to rescue two people in a jeep after they drove onto slosser road, which was closed because of flooding. the driver and the passenger were not hurt. >> in guerneville, people are moving to higher ground because of the rising russian river,

which is causing flooding. >> abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has a closer look pretty soon, and by this evening, it'll be like three feet of water in here. >> olivia lindauer and her father are wasting no time moving her house trailer out of downtown guerneville. her neighborhood could be under several feet of water by saturday. >> i mean, it's not as big of a pain to move in your entire house that doesn't have wheels on it. but it's still not fun, that's for sure. all right, let's go, let's go. >> brianna homes is already on the move to higher ground with her trailer. >> just like getting uprooted from your home and stuff. have to go find somewhere else to live for a few days. >> pet care. all of it. >> i might even probably gonna miss work tomorrow, too, so that's unfortunate. >> super stressful. it's so stressful. >> it's probably the. it's probably the most stress i could have. are you okay up there? >> some guerneville neighborhoods are starting to flood. firefighters going door to door, checking on residents. all eyes on the russian river, which is expected to reach flood stage soon.

>> it's in monitor stage now, but it's looking at this time to be about at 34ft. so as you can see, the neighborhood we're in, this is a pretty good indicator to us. these are the first areas that start to flood for us from some of the creeks. >> but it's nice. it's high up there. so hopefully we don't get water, won't get water, won't get us. >> everything that isn't nailed down is being moved up and away from the floor. at the surrey glamping resort, the resident cat is also ready for transport. the resort sits on a low lying spot where flooding is almost guaranteed. >> today we're just having the staff basically clear everything out and then, you know, if the flood waters come up, you know we'll clean up, put the tents back up before next season and we'll be ready to go. >> an rv on the property got stuck in the rising water and mud in nearby healdsburg. heavy rain caused this mudslide on buena vista drive. city crews are waiting for drier weather before they can shore up the hillside. back in guerneville, it's time for neighbors to move out. in a couple days home.

don't go anywhere in sonoma county. cornell, bernard. abc seven news. >> and be sure to track the weather where you live. you can do it with the abc seven bay area app. you can get the latest forecast and look at the same live doppler seven radar our weather team uses. just search abc seven bay area in your device's app store to download it now. >> an infant is dead following a listeria outbreak affecting yu sheng brand. ready to eat meat and poultry products. the infant's mother also tested positive for listeria. the family is from california. the cdc says there have been 11 cases of listeria linked to this outbreak. those cases are across four states. yu sheng food has recalled more than 72,000 pounds of food because of possible contamination. >> now to new developments in the case against protesters who blocked traffic on the golden gate bridge in april. the san francisco chronicle is reporting that a judge has thrown out most of the charges against them. the group was protesting the israel-hamas war. 32 of the 44

charges against the protesters have been dismissed. most of them counts of false imprisonment. however, some federal conspiracy charges still remain. one defendant's case was dismissed entirely. president elect donald trump continues to fill out his cabinet. today, he revealed his picks to fill seven positions. johns hopkins johns hopkins professor marty mccaffrey for the fda. former congressman and doctor dave weldon to lead the cdc. russ vought to lead the office of management and budget, the same role he held in trump's first term. oregon congresswoman lori chavez-deremer for labor secretary. former nfl player and texas lawmaker scott turner for housing and urban development, doctor and fox news contributor janette nesheiwat. as surgeon general and hedge fund manager scott bessent for the treasury department. >> all right. one of san francisco's cutest holiday traditions has returned. adoptable puppies and kittens from the sf spca are back on

display in the windows of macy's. you can check them out wednesdays through sundays from noon until 6 p.m. through december 31st. the spca is waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs five months and older. this year's goal is finding homes for 600 animals as part of today's unveiling, macy's presented a $5,000 donation to the sf spca. >> merchants in san francisco's chinatown are gearing up for the holiday season tonight. about 86 businesses were given holiday lights donated by the city. shoppers in chinatown will be able to enjoy the decorative lights and special holiday promotions while visiting stores. a giant life sized holiday panda will greet shoppers on small business saturday next weekend, and a holiday concert is also planned for later in december. >> that is fun and see. despite all of the rain, all of these great events, lots of smiles today. >> that's true. sandy is probably smiling because she'd like a little relief. maybe we're getting a little break coming our way. sandhya. yes. >> you know what? we are going

to get a break. ama and dan, let me show you live doppler seven right now. it has been pouring. no doubt about it. all day long we have seen pockets of heavy rain. and right now that shift of the atmospheric river is into the south bay, where the heaviest rain is falling. so let's get you into street level radar from san martin to morgan hill. santa teresa road into gilroy. highway 101. it is coming down much lighter from the east bay to san francisco. the peninsula. but you will also notice that right around san jose, as lauren mentioned, there has been some steady pockets of moderate rain right now. a very scattered around calistoga and the north bay. mark west springs, by the way, santa rosa is now at 364% of average. i mean, talk about just a couple of days making a huge difference. storm reports around the region. we've had numerous reports the last 24 hours, 81 to be precise. debris flows, wind damage, flooding. that is going

to be the case as we head into the overnight hours. so we do have flood watches, warnings and advisories. keep in mind that these areas have already experienced flooding and it's still possible on streams, creeks and roadways. so watch out for that. you can see why. i mean, when you're picking up this kind of rain in 24 hours, almost three inches in the city, two and a half getting close to that in oakland, three and a half, over three and a half there in san rafael. more. more than two inches in napa. half an inch in san jose. livermore, 5607 inch. concord, 5900 and over five inches in ben lomond. this is what's impressive 72 hour totals nearing two feet in venado occidental. 17.6. remember, this atmospheric river was parked over the north bay for a couple of days and it's taking its toll over 14in healdsburg. less elsewhere. wind advisory still going until 10 a.m. tomorrow. gusts to 55 miles an hour in these areas will knock down trees and power lines. look at the view. this is from zephyr cove. the snow is

coming down, but at lake level it is still raining. i would not advise travel, hold off winter storm warning until 4 p.m. tuesday above 5500ft, up to five feet for the peaks, 1 to 4ft at the lower elevations, higher elevations. excuse me. sierra is seeing the snow right now at the highest elevations where chain controls are in effect. now, when we take a look at what's happening here, there's still a little piece of energy coming through tomorrow. so here's a look at the temperatures. they're in the 40s and the 50s across the region. live views from our tower cameras san jose, you're not missing out. it is raining right now. slick around golden gate emeryville and the snow in zephyr cove. level two on our exclusive abc7 news storm impact scale through tonight. flooding, rain, gusty winds, downed trees, mudslides. still a chance of thunder we go into tomorrow morning and we see some pockets of downpours. notice at 11 a.m. it's east bay peninsula, south bay. and then here comes a little batch. so an isolated couple of showers in the evening can't be ruled out, even though most areas will be seeing a mix

of sun and clouds. now, additional rainfall totals anywhere from about a 10th to a third of an inch. wetter locations will pick up more morning temperatures, 40s and 50s. have your umbrellas handy for the first half of your weekend plans, and hang on to the umbrellas for the second half. i'll show you why. 50s 60s tomorrow a few showers will linger, and here's a look at the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a one for tomorrow, a one sunday. we have another system coming. it's a weak one, but it will bring some showers beginning around late morning through the afternoon evening hours. it's a one for monday and tuesday, but just in time for the holiday we're going to dry it out. it's going to be nice and we'll be able to appreciate the fact that we got soaked, and now we can kind of relax a little bit. >> dan and i will be extra thankful on thanksgiving. >> that's right. thanks,
