following major flooding slides and downed trees. good morning everybody. it's saturday, november 23rd and boy what a mess yesterday. >> yeah, we won't be seeing atmospheric river for a while. how's that. but we will keep our storm impact scale with us today, tomorrow into tuesday. possibly wednesday for a light shower activity. the afternoon features sunshine, but a few light showers to the north today, and we're looking at less than a 10th of an inch slick roadways. no doubt, and the bulk of the activity central valley, southern california and going in closer, there's a look at lagunitas, olema and guernevill. some scattered showers. also from montara highway one, maybe san mateo, looking at a few light sprinkles. clouds. the golden gate bridge 56 in oakland right now and in the south bay, you picked up three quarters of an inch of rain yesterday, 55 in concord, 51 santa rosa. here's the plan. the next few hours notice a few light showers moving across the bay and then stopping this at about 2:00. upper 50s to near 60. the bulk

of the day. partly cloudy skies and isolated shower. we get into a dry evening for some of us. a few showers in the south bay. then we'll talk about another level one for sunday, and we'll tell you about how much rainfall to expect right up through thanksgiving and beyond. stephanie. >> lisa. thank you. all right. this is something you don't expect to see in san francisco. a slide sending mud flowing into the streets. this is over in the glen park area near interstate 280, which also saw flooding. abc seven news reporter tara campbell shows us the damage. reporter from fallen trees flooded freeways and stranded cars, heavy rain and high winds pounding the peninsula and san francisco friday. >> how are the roads today? >> we're just coming to get some of the sandbags because they've got them ready to go for us. >> san francisco public works extending its hours, workers helping residents get loaded up. >> we're going to try to patch up a leaking ramp into a garage because it's flooding right now,

with all the water pooling up and pooling water wreaking havoc. >> on friday night's commute from one flooded spot to the next. in san mateo county, winds whipping and traffic slowed this person on a scooter trying to plow through the pouring rain. while back in san francisco, crews cleaning up from this mudslide under two 8-80 crashing down late this afternoon. >> we were commenting on how we appreciated how quickly the city was fixing it, actually, because it was looking a little scary earlier today with kind of all of the mud flowing into the street. >> a little jarring, a little apocalyptic as we were, you know, going through our workday and looking outside a window. that's what we're seeing. yeah, you could see it from your house. >> yeah. the dog has been very curious by the backhoe all day. >> i was surprised it was so close to my house. so then i started getting worried. >> and nearby residents taking precautions. i'm going to move my car away from the berm and

tell my neighbors to do the same, just in case more dirt comes down. >> i'm seeing rain. >> meanwhile, scenes like this playing out across the city. >> we are cleaning all these catch basins which you call storm drains. these catch basins to make sure all the stormwater run into these drains so we don't get ponding. >> tara campbell, abc7 news. >> public works will reopen today at 2:00. if you're looking to pick up sandbags, just don't forget your proof of address here in san francisco. also in the city. take a look at this. this car was stuck in some wild flood waters in the design district yesterday. it was stalled there off the intersection of henry adams street and alameda street. and it appears, as you can see here, it got some help from a truck that was pushing it forward to get out of that high water. the east bay got its share of rain. this is what it looked like yesterday afternoon in oakland, where it was really coming down and the umbrellas were out. as you can see in marin county, several lanes of eastbound traffic were flooded along sir francis drake boulevard. it

appears a storm drain got clogged near the larkspur train station. you see, a worker was there attempting to clear it as cars tried to drive around. the sonoma county fire district says it had to rescue two people in a jeep after they drove onto this closed road because of flooding. the driver and passenger, thankfully, were not hurt. in guerneville, people moved to higher ground because of the rising russian river, which caused flooding. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard gives us a closer look. pretty soon, and by this evening, it'll be like three feet of water in her. >> olivia lindauer and her father are wasting no time moving her house trailer out of downtown guerneville. her neighborhood could be under several feet of water by saturday. >> i mean, it's not as big of a pain as moving your entire house that doesn't have wheels on it, but it's still not fun, that's for sure. all right, let's go, let's go. >> brianna homes is already on the move to higher ground with her trailer. >> just like getting uprooted from your home and stuff. have to go find somewhere else to

live for a few days. pet care, all of it. i might even probably gonna miss work tomorrow, too, so that's unfortunate. >> super stressful. it's so stressful. >> it's probably the it's probably the most stress i could have. are you okay up there? >> some guerneville neighborhoods are starting to flood. firefighters going door to door, checking on residents. all eyes on the russian river, which is expected to reach flood stage soon. >> it's in monitor stage now, but it's looking at this time to be about at 34ft. so as you can see, the neighborhood we're in, this is a pretty good indicator to us. these are the first areas that start to flood for us from some of the creeks. >> but it's nice. it's high up there. so hopefully we don't get water, won't get us, water won't get us. >> everything that isn't nailed down is being moved up and away from the floor. at the surrey glamping resort, the resident cat is also ready for transport. the resort sits on a low lying spot where flooding is almost guaranteed. >> today we're just having the staff basically clear everything out and then, you know, if the flood waters come up, you know

we'll clean up, put the tents back up before next season and we'll be ready to go. >> an rv on the property got stuck in the rising water and mud in nearby healdsburg. heavy rain caused this mudslide on buena vista drive. city crews are waiting for drier weather before they can shore up the hillside. back in guerneville, it's time for neighbors to move out. in a couple days home. don't go anywhere in sonoma county. cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> a section of silverado trail has reopened after a temporary closure. the road was a muddy mess, as you can see in between some napa wineries right near yountville. crews cleaned up the aftermath of flooding and debris piled up there in the south bay. the wet weather comes as setups continue for christmas in the park to open next week. we got a look at the work being done to protect the festive structures while they're still being constructed. here's abc seven news south bay reporter zach fuentes. >> rain is not going to ruin

this san jose holiday tradition, so we open on the day after thanksgiving on november 29th. >> the rainy days are my most favorite days in the park because there's fewer people here and all of the lights just kind of glisten and it's just magical. so that's what i think people should come down here. >> still, precautions are taken to protect the beautiful displays. >> we're prepping for the rain. we're putting sandbags out just to protect some of our displays. but all these displays are designed and built to be in the rain, the wind, the sun. and they're going to be just fine. >> and it's not just christmas in the park that's focused on the sandbags. valley water making sandbags like these available at stations throughout the county. they're asking residents right now to stay alert. >> we've been messaging out to the public to make sure that they're prepared. as you know, the wet season starts, so we're asking everybody to make sure that they have an emergency plan in place in case there is flooding. >> san jose resident dan mccarthy taking no chances and making sure his family doesn't

travel nightmare. there more than 580 flight delays and nearly 70 cancellations. there was an average ground delay of over two hours because of the winds. it was the third consecutive day of weather complications there, so keep an eye out for changes if you plan to fly out this week. and speaking of, as we head into thanksgiving week, triple a has provided insight into the best travel times for you and your family. roads and airports are expected to be more crowded this year, with nearly 80 million people set to travel this week for the holiday. the faa is expecting over 50,000 flights and despite thanksgiving being later this week, experts say to prepare early thanksgiving is the busiest travel holiday of all. >> this is the time of year when most people travel, so already you're comparing a very high number from last year. the fact that last year was a record and that we're even going to surpass that this year means a lot, and roads are expected to be crowded too, with millions driving to their holiday destinations.

>> people are leaving earlier this year with many choosing to head out on tuesday and coming back on monday to avoid major traffic. and if you're leaving on tuesday, we'll have another round of showers. lisa is tracking the latest on that. so pretty light though compared to what we've seen. >> yes, it will add up. i'm going to show you a total for the weekend and then beyond. so we're not done with the rain, but it's certainly going to not compare at all to what we had yesterday and the day before. and the several days before up in the north bay. so still looking at some flooded roads there. and boy, oh boy, we certainly need a break. and with that atmospheric river sinking south, we can talk about that 15.3in of rain up in wine country and in san francisco. we jumped from 24% of average for the season to 118% of average and 364% of average for santa rosa. so no more rain is needed. but there is some here up in the

north bay level one system. novato, sears point 121 highway 37 back southwestward towards lagunitas and taking you towards the delta, american canyon, and vallejo. i-80 getting some wet weather and down the peninsula here, just a little bit. san francisco and further south from montara to half moon bay. some showers. we still have a flood warning for central sonoma here until tomorrow morning, so still getting those waters to recede that saturated ground and the possibility of still some flooding there. no doubt. 1.48in of rain in redwood city for yesterday, that 24 hour total closing in on three inches just in one day in san francisco, 2.46. in oakland, we had 5.5in or 5.15 for ben lowman. you can see a little bit of sun there. those cumulus clouds that really signify an unstable environment. so still some showers possible. 56 in oakland, it's 49 in redwood city and some sun here

shining on the shark tank. it's 48 in petaluma, 54 in napa, 52 livermore and the gray sky on the peninsula. so level one system light showers today. a few showers for your sunday. another level one. and then for thanksgiving. no storm impact scale. it looks like we'll be dry. we'll take you through about tuesday here. there are the showers as we get into 11:00. still a few over into the east bay. then we are partly cloudy for the bulk of the day. this is sunday morning. more rain along the coast there and then by later on in the afternoon, the peninsula, the north bay. more shower activity 7:00 monday morning. the bulk of this next system will be in the south bay. further south along the central coast. but by monday afternoon, wraparound showers for us. and then look what happens tuesday morning. this is coming up from the south here. so more showers. so the first element here takes us through tuesday in the middle of the night or middle of the morning. and this adds up to a 10th to

about a third. so this is several days. this is four days. and then we'll look at this through the end of the week. and it looks like we could see a half inch in santa rosa adding to the totals wednesday through friday. and most of it you can see in the south bay. so if it verifies, we're still looking at more rain, but certainly not as much as we had a winter storm warning. and this takes us through tuesday. upper elevations measuring snow in feet. but at lake level we've got about four inches. south lake, maybe 11in kirkwood upper 50s to the low 60s. today partly cloudy skies, a few isolated showers, the accuweather seven day forecast level one system today. tomorrow, monday, tuesday we're dry. wednesday, thanksgiving and friday looks dry. you have to stay tuned to the forecast because things are changing quickly stephanie. >> all right lisa thank you. new developments in the case against protesters who blocked traffic on the golden gate bridge back in april. the san francisco chronicle is now reporting a judge has thrown out most of

those charges. the group, as you remember, was protesting the israel-hamas war. 32 of the 44 charges against those protesters have been dismissed. now, most of them counts of false imprisonment. however, some federal conspiracy charges still remain. one defendant's case was dismissed entirely. four lawsuits have been filed against the martinez refining company over the 2022 thanksgiving day chemical release. that's when a flare up sent thick white ash raining down on nearby neighborhoods. the lawsuits were filed on behalf of 700 residents, who say their health has been severely impacted by the refinery's repeated discharge of toxic chemicals. we're also following this story. an infant is dead following a listeria outbreak impacting yusheng brand. ready to eat meat and poultry products. the infant's mother also tested positive for listeria. the family is from california. the cdc says there have been 11 cases of listeria linked to this particular outbreak. those cases are across four states. yusheng

food has recalled more than 72,000 pounds of food due to possible contamination in the east bay. oakland's teachers union wants the school district to rethink its projected $78 million budget deficit. one of the plans being considered is merging ten schools. the oakland education association says this would disrupt students learning. it also says previous closures did not save the district any money and led to declining enrollment. >> we are seeing growing administration, central office and contracts while our teachers are doing more with less, and this has been going on for years. ousd has continued to push more cuts to schools and balance the budget with discriminatory closures. >> a usda says the mergers would save the district $3 million, but the union feels the district is inflating the amount of the budget deficit, basing it on

peak spending during the pandemic rather than during typical years. the board will make a final vote next month on the peninsula. a deal has been reached, ending a labor dispute between samtrans and bus operators. the san mateo county transit district's board of directors approved the latest four year contract affecting about 400 union operators. members will receive close to a 4% average raise each year. the contract also includes pay adjustments for jobs samtrans says were below market value. operators had been working without a contract since the end of june. san francisco's board has approved a plan to replace the controversial valencia street bike lane. here's the replacement design, showing bike lanes that run next to the sidewalk. now, this design will eliminate 79 parking and loading spots. the center running bike lane down valencia has been credited with reducing crashes between bikes and cars,

to do with black friday sales sweeping tariffs promised by president elect trump has some business owners concerned for their bottom line. here's abc seven news reporter tim johns. >> as part of his reelection campaign, president elect donald trump has promised a major rise in the nation's tariffs. trump says the taxes on imports could rise to anywhere from 60 to 100% for countries like china and from 10 to 20% on products imported from other u.s. trading partners. while nothing has changed yet, the proposals are worrying many bay area business

owners. >> we're very concerned about i, and we think that it's not good for the consumer and it's not good for all of the businesses that we deal with. >> oliver mccrum owns an italian wine and spirits import business in berkeley. he worries if the tariffs become reality, they could severely impact his business. mccrum tells me to try and offset some of the potential harm he's already started ordering. months worth of product, a move he hopes will save him money if tariffs go up next year. >> the concern, of course, is that storage is expensive and we would have to pay for goods before we would. we would use them, but buying in bulk isn't an option for everyone, says san francisco based k-pop store owner kevin tang. >> because with the k-pop industry, there's always new releases and new comebacks and new musics in a quarterly basis, so we can't really pre-purchase something that hasn't existed yet. >> tang says his store, sirangelo, imports 100% of their products from south korea. he says if the tariffs happen, they'll have to make difficult

decisions. >> yes, there definitely will be added cost into our products and unfortunately, you know, in order for us to make up for that cost, it's obviously going to be shouldered by our customers. >> in the worst case scenario, if costs remain elevated for long and business slows down, tang says he might be forced to close his store for good. >> as an entrepreneur, it is important for me to be very adaptive and i think i have a team to help support me with that. and ultimately, you know, we're not giving up without a fight. >> according to some estimates, the proposed tariffs could cost the average american household around $2,600 per year. in san francisco, tim johns abc seven news. >> new this morning, the well known cans of campbell's soup is getting a major change to its name after more than 150 years. campbell's soup is now just campbell's. over time, campbell's has been in the business of other foods, including owning brands like prego sauce and goldfish crackers. representatives say

the soup has become a smaller portion of their sales, so the new name won't affect their line of soups. those will still have the iconic red and white campbell's soup label, though, so you'll still recognize it. one of san francisco's cutest holiday traditions is back! you guessed it, the adoptable puppies and kittens from the spca are back on display in the windows of macy's. so cute every year you can check them out wednesdays through sundays from noon to 6 p.m. through december 31st. and this year, the spca is waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs. five months and older. their goal this year is to find homes for 600 animals as a part of this project, macy's presented a $5,000 donation to the san francisco based spca. merchants in the city's chinatown are also gearing up for the holiday season. about 86 businesses were given holiday lights donated by the city. shoppers in chinatown will be able to enjoy the decorative lights and special holiday

you can keep them engaged. and billy napier, who just got the extension and the blessing from his athletic department and should. they're playing great. d.j. lagway is the key in that football game. at the very least, it's a swamp. ole miss will not be the same team. they always are at home with their up tempo offense. they better be careful on this one. yeah, ole miss hanging on to a spot in the college football playoff rankings that would put them in the field. texas a chance to get to the sec championship game. if it wins out. they have kentucky at home. yeah. this game where texas just wants to do what they need to do and get ready for texas a&m. you know don't worry this is not a kentucky team. if you're in lexington maybe it'd be a different story. but this is a kentucky team that's just not having a great year. and texas needs to go out and just play their game and get out of there healthy and get ready for next week. and then the primetime game on abc, alabama and oklahoma. the crimson tide, no margin for error if they want to make the playoffs. no, not at all. and kind of this is a little bit dangerous because you got alabama on the road. this is an oklahoma team that defensively they can hang around in this football game. i just

and mornings live. >> good morning everybody. we're starting this half hour with a look at the weather. more rain today and the days to come, but no more atmospheric rivers, at least for the short term. >> we won't be talking about that. maybe we'll be talking about it, but it won't be affecting the bay area. just level one systems. the next several days, starting out with live doppler seven, where you can see much of california getting wet this morning. thunderstorms to the north of us, but as we go in closer to the north bay around sears point, highway 121 black point, there is some shower activity towards american canyon back westward fairfax into marin county. very light returns and over into the east bay. concord had a shower. crockett 780 and

fund, has advised trump on economic policy. trump's pick to head the budget office, russell vought, who served in the same role during trump's first term and was coauthor of project 2025 for labor secretary trump, nominating oregon representative lori chavez-deremer. those appointments come after trump picked a new attorney general, pam bondi, the former florida attorney general turned lobbyist. her nomination came after matt gaetz withdrew his name from consideration after gates had been under scrutiny amid sexual misconduct allegations. gates was one of several members of congress nominated for a trump cabinet position, but is the only one to resign from congress pending confirmation friday. he said he doesn't plan to go back. >> i'm going to be fighting for president trump. i'm going to be doing whatever he asks of me, as i always have. but i think that eight years is probably enough time in the united states congress. >> johny fernandez, abc news, new york. >> president joe biden hosted

the alameda county board of supervisors. john bowers conceded yesterday that race was a close one, with bass ahead by only about 400 votes at last check. still ahead this morning, get caught speeding in san francisco and it could soon cost you even more. we add up just how much money the city expects to bring in from new speed cameras, and how they say that money will help build a better bay area. we'll take you outside from a live look from our emeryville camera. it's 8.35. we'll be right back

five at 33 locations that have had the most reported accidents related to speeding. for example, the san francisco municipal transportation agency found that the worst location for speeding was this section of geary between seventh and eighth avenue. they calculated that 4440 cars were driving at 11 miles over the speed limit in a single day. i bet you are asking, how do they know that this section has so many cars driving at least 11 miles over the speed limit? if no cameras have been installed yet. we were wondering the same. here's how they did it a few months ago.

there at sfo. light showers level one today, level one on sunday and then dry for thanksgiving next couple of hours. notice how we've got a few showers that will move across the bay, then partly cloudy throughout the day today. this is sunday morning. more shower activity north and south end of the bay but isolated getting into monday and tuesday. a little bit more widespread, but it will still be a level one system. monday afternoon light showers. the next system will be to the south of us. you can see we're getting some of that wraparound moisture, but the bulk of the activity not in the bay. still looking at that level one. so right on through tuesday overnight early morning we're looking at the totals of a 10th to 2/10. so this is four days several days. as for today only about 5/100, maybe a 10th out there taking this all the way through saturday after thanksgiving, adding to the four day totals. and we have about a third of an inch santa rosa, a quarter of an inch san jose, san

francisco. and as i said, most of the activity to the south, you'll see san jose maybe a half inch. so this would be totals out of the next six days. so we'll have to see how that verifies. but so far the forecast models have been doing pretty well. they handle that atmospheric river pretty well. so pretty confident that these level ones will stay very weak through the next several days. winter storm warning this is for the west slope here above 7000ft. above 5500ft. we'll look at the snow accumulating, but at lake level it's been changing over, back and forth from rain to snow. so you get that heavy cement right above lake level. but at the resorts, anywhere from a couple of inches to maybe ten 11in down by kirkwood. highs today under partly cloudy conditions after the morning. rain showers. isolated shower this afternoon 59 richmond, 62, in san jose and the accuweather seven day forecast level one today. tomorrow a little bit more rain on monday and tuesday, then we're dry wednesday, thanksgiving and the day after.
