first responders want everyone to know following two storm related deaths. good morning everybody. it's sunday, november 24th. some significant totals from those two storms. yeah. >> record breaking for sure. and we still have a level one system today with afternoon and evening showers expected. but this morning we're looking at visibility reduced to nothing in novato. a quarter of a mile in vacaville with three quarters of a mile in santa rosa. lower half of the bay. east bay, south bay. much better. there's that weak system offshore. nothing going on now. we'll see some sun and clouds mixed through much of the day. and then throughout the afternoon, the showers arrive in the evening hours as well. south southeast winds will be kicking up, but amounts will be light anywhere from 5/100 to about a 10th. 45 right now in hayward it is much cooler. this morning with that. 37 in novato, 42 sonoma anywhere from ten degrees colder. san francisco, oakland to 13 degrees colder san carlos and novato. and even in our inland valleys, much chillier.

so you'll see that the morning hours feature the cool temperatures mid and upper 50s with dry conditions. then after 2:00 up towards cloverdale, you can see a few showers and then throughout the evening hours, san francisco. but mainly we'll see them in the north bay. we'll talk about another level one, but focus shifts to the south of us for the beginning of the week. stephanie. >> all right. lisa. thank you. in the north bay, one person died after he tried to drive through a flooded road in guerneville in santa rosa. the body of another man was recovered from a creek with high waters. both cities received more than nine inches of rain since wednesday. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has the message from first responders. >> our message to the public is turn around. don't drown. >> it's a motto. first responders use all the time. but on saturday, the driver of a compact car drove into flooded mayes canyon road in guerneville. >> right around 1130, a call came in from a person who saw a car bobbing in the water.

>> the flood water, 6 to 7ft deep. an attempt to rescue the driver, becoming a grim recovery effort. >> the sheriff's office responded. in addition to sonoma county fire district and monroe fire, and they performed a rescue, and they pulled a person from the car who was unfortunately pronounced deceased here at the scene. so we have one person who did not make it. >> in santa rosa, the body of a man was recovered in piner creek saturday alongside a popular hiking trail. >> i hike here, walk here, and i've never seen the water that high. >> alan johnson says the creek rose at least six feet after record rainfall. santa rosa police say the man's death a possible drowning. it's unclear how the victim got into the creek. more than a foot of rain slamming sonoma county in three days, causing the russian river to flood in spots like this mobile home park in forestville. many roads are still flooded. sadly, this is not the first time drivers have lost their lives here in the north bay in flood waters. just over the last

three days, first responders have been very busy rescuing people from their cars. >> please do not drive into flooded roadways. it puts you at risk and us at risk trying to get you out. >> on friday night, the driver and passenger in this jeep had to be rescued on slosser road in forestville, which was closed due to flooding. in 2023, a woman drowned in her car after driving into a flooded road. >> we definitely, definitely wish people would not do that. we wish they would heed the signs and turn around, you know, find another way out. your life is worth it. >> in sonoma county. cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> on the peninsula as san mateo home is redtagged after a large oak tree came crashing onto it yesterday morning. the tree split in half and then fell onto the roof above a woman's bedroom. thankfully, she was not hurt. maple street between barneston and madison avenues is back open this morning after being temporarily closed. you

can track the weather where you live with our abc seven bay area app. you can get the latest forecast and look at the same live doppler seven radar. our weather team uses just search abc seven bay area and your device's app store to download it now. new this morning, eight suspects, including juveniles as young as 12, have been arrested in connection to an organized retail crime spree. they're accused of targeting multiple walgreens around san francisco. according to police, they've stolen over $84,000 in merchandise and dozens of thefts starting in july. the investigation started after a violent robbery at the potrero avenue location. the suspects face charges ranging from assault and robbery to organized retail theft and grand theft. they are all residents of the bay area in the south bay. community members held a vigil to remember trans lives lost, and as abc seven news reporter tara campbell explains, it marked an alarming trend. >> michelle henry, one name at a

time, remembering those lost within the transgender community. >> it's a fairly emotional event, so to speak, remembering all of our fallen, the faces of those fallen lit by candle in san jose, honoring lives taken around the world since launching nearly a decade ago. >> the trans murder monitoring project has tracked the murder of more than 5000 transgender people. its latest report, released this week on transgender day of remembrance, showing this year so far, there's been 350 murders, surpassing last year's total of 321. you'll see names of people who have died because of violence enacted against them. >> so we are just here to show that they matter and their deaths were not in vain. trans power, trans power. >> and amid the mourning, a rally cry show trump grassroots organizing needs to being in its

toll plaza. it is 509 ten more days. that's how much longer the public has to give feedback on proposed bridge toll increases. last week, the bay area toll authority heard public comment on the proposal. all but the golden gate would be affected. currently, the toll on state owned bridges is $7. it goes up to $8 next year. tolls could then go up to 1150 by year 2030. under this new proposal, officials say they need the money for maintenance. commissioners are expected to vote on the proposal on december 18th. a barn owl is recovering

this morning after being rescued here in san francisco. san francisco animal care and control saved this owl you see here. trapped in a built in flower pot. this happened last night in laurel heights. san francisco fire was there, as you see, to help pull this bird to safety from the upper floor of this home. officers say the owl is stable and will likely be transferred to a wildlife rehab facility. this weekend. well, the holiday season is here, and that means increased risk of respiratory illnesses like covid, rsv, and of course, the flu. things like air travel and indoor gatherings put people at greater risk of getting sick. health experts say it's best to get all your vaccinations well ahead of the holidays. >> vaccines don't work immediately. they take about a week to two weeks for the person to develop full immune immune responses. and so that's why we always recommend for respiratory virus season that people start getting vaccinated as early as possible in the fall.

>> we're past that two week point for a pre-thanksgiving vaccination, but getting a vaccine at any time is better than not at all. to be ready for christmas, doctors recommend getting vaccinated by december 10th, december 11th for hanukkah and december 17th for new year's eve. a san francisco law firm helped kick off the holiday week with a giveaway of hundreds of turkeys. volunteers from walkup, melodia kelly and schoenberger teamed up with students and alumni from san francisco's lowell high school. they gave away 700 turkeys for this thanksgiving, and this year, the law firm teamed up with eight different schools and identified the families most in need. those families drove up and picked up their turkeys, as well as some gift certificates for groceries. >> just watching the people who are receiving turkeys now, it's joyful. and that is, i think the biggest takeaway for us is that we are feeling more connected and feeling more joyful. this year. >> great to see that. this is

the second year for the walkup law firm's turkey giveaway. and san mateo county, an annual thanksgiving tradition. about 190 residents in need received free turkeys, eggs and boxes full of thanksgiving trimmings. this is the sixth year san mateo county supervisor david canepa has partnered with friends of old town and other community groups. they help older and food insecure residents celebrate the holiday. >> this is really an opportunity to make sure at this time of the year that people are able to celebrate thanksgiving with dignity and respect. an average turkey right now is about $24.99. that's a lot of money to help them pick up their supplies. >> some recipients receive transportation from got wheels. a san mateo county service for older adults in pleasant hill. thousands came out for the annual light up the night holiday event downtown. abc

things i know it's surprising, right? yes. it's it definitely is changing. and we're starting out with dry conditions. but level one system today and into monday i think are going to be the wettest days. tuesday i'm not really sold on, but we'll get to that as we look at our storm impact scale today. yesterday turned out nice, didn't it? today we'll see some sun as well. and then afternoon and evening showers with those breezy south winds. most of us will see less than 5/100, maybe a 10th of an inch higher elevations. some of you may not see any rain at all, so we do have still a low pressure set up off the coast, and that is allowing for some of those showers to rotate through. nothing too organized, but we will see a system tomorrow that is a better rainmaker. but the focus looks to shift from san francisco points south. right now it is 46. in oakland, 43 sonoma and fremont with 37 in livermore. so certainly some

colder numbers this morning. fog is certainly an issue not only in the north bay, but half mile visibility. san jose up to two miles now in novato. but notice three quarters of a mile in santa rosa. so be careful as we head outside from our roof camera. morning fog. some sun today, afternoon and evening showers, then tomorrow and possibly tuesday. we're looking at more rain level one system and then by wednesday into thanksgiving and the holiday weekend looks like we're going to see some dry conditions. so this is the way we start out. we go through the afternoon with some sun. then we cloud up. this is 4:00. you see the showers near cloverdale, parts of marin county. and then as we get into the evening hours, scattered showers, perhaps san francisco up through the north bay and then into monday morning. check it out. you can see how widespread the rain is, but it is moving up from the south. and so the focus will be from the east bay. the peninsula, the south bay into monday afternoon. it's a rainy, breezy day. and then by tuesday, it looks like

this system wants to pull away. we still have a level one. ther, but may not even need it. as for rainfall amounts, this is what happens from today to early tomorrow. you can see very light amounts. and then as we get into that monday and possibly tuesday system about a quarter of an inch to a third of an inch, and then looking at maybe more than that as you get down towards the santa cruz mountains in terms of the snow. looking at a winter storm warning through that should be monday 7:00, monday through wednesday, 1 to 2ft above 7000ft, and then 2 to 9in right here around lake level. highs today with some sun, some showers out there low to mid 60s. so it will be basically dry until the afternoon. the accuweather seven day forecast. level one system today and tomorrow could see more showers on tuesday, but notice wednesday into the rest of the week and weekend, including thanksgiving. looking dry. stephanie. >> all right liz thank you. well, the bay area is about to

opening up in pleasanton this week. the store is set to open on wednesday, november 27th. yes, that's the day right before thanksgiving, just in time for that last minute shopping for the holiday dinner or black friday deals. the store will be closed on thanksgiving day, though. this is the third costco warehouse in the tri-valley area after danville and livermore. it's also the second bay area location to open recently after the napa store opened in october. in other consumer news, facebook and instagram users have long complained there is no way to get help when hackers

take over their accounts. but as we've reported, parent company meta offers a paid subscription service for personalized care called meta verified and seven on your side looked into whether or not it's actually helping consumers. when hackers get involved. >> oh my gosh, i was relieved. >> we told you about tova ridgeway, who tried for months to recover her stolen facebook account. she even marched down to meta headquarters in menlo park demanding help. nothing worked until she paid $14.99 for one month of meta verified within a day, a live agent on chat restored her account. >> i was able to get all my memories back. my memories of my kid, me and my husband. >> she got help. i was like, what the heck? how come i didn't help in my situation? >> daniel gomez lost his facebook account back in august and he couldn't get it back either. i lost all my photo albums with family. >> a lot of important stuff was on there. >> facebook's automated help pages kept sending him in circles, so he paid $14.99 for

one month of meta verified. but his case wasn't so simple. >> i'm here to tell you, meta verified does not always work. >> hackers had used daniel's facebook profile to set up a fake instagram account. meta suspended the fake account and daniel's facebook too. after nearly two dozen live chats with meta verified he still got the same error message. so he paid for a second month, then a third. >> maybe my issue is too complicated, but it definitely didn't work for me. >> after multiple attempts, he points to the latest chat where an agent typed, hi danny, thank you for contacting the meta pro team. may i confirm you are calling about bullying? >> i don't think they understood what happened. >> daniel replied. no, not bullying. my facebook account was hacked and suspended. the agent typed thank you for confirming your phone number and bringing this concern to our attention. we duly understand how important this is for you. >> it feels like you're talking to a robot. it doesn't feel human at all. it doesn't feel

like a human interaction. >> was he chatting with a bot or a human? he wasn't sure. but the next message said the best way to submit an appeal for your account being hacked is@facebook.com. >> here's a link. try to do it yourself. pretty much. i'm paying money to not get help at all. >> the next message said may i confirm that i was able to answer all your questions for today? daniel replied yeah, but it didn't help at all. the chat said it's been a pleasure having you today. this case will now be closed. have a great and beautiful day. >> okay, have a nice day. have a nice, beautiful, sunny day. >> we found many reports online and to seven on your side from users saying the service could not restore their accounts. however, in a blog post announcing the service, meta ceo mark zuckerberg wrote verifying government ids and providing direct access to customer support costs a significant amount of money subscription fees will cover this and will pace how many people sign up, so we'll be able to ensure quality. daniel says he did get something

after nearly a decade of talks, a significant deal to help the environment. reached a deal to help fight climate change. the cop 29 brings together environmental officials from around the globe. the agreement allows for a global market for buying and selling carbon credits. credits are created through projects such as planting trees or putting up wind farms. countries receive one credit for every metric ton in emissions they reduce or pull out of the atmosphere. milwaukee, wisconsin, to celebrate the navy's newest combat ship. you're looking at the uss beloit that was officially commissioned. retired major general marcia anderson served as the ship's sponsor and she is no stranger to making

county sheriff's investigation involving sheriff christina corpus is now telling his side of the story. the sheriff's chief of staff says the scathing report against christina corpus and her administration is built on lies, including their alleged romantic relationship. all of it has led to a criminal investigation and calls for the sheriff to resign. abc seven news i-team reporter dan noyes has an interview you'll see only on seven. >> sheriff christina corpus told me earlier this week that she's known victor j. >> for 17 years, and we are colleagues. i consider him a trusted confidant, a friend during all that time, did you and her ever become romantic? >> no. there has never been physical contact or a dating relationship. no. the longtime realtor became indispensable during corpus campaign for sheriff. that's him. during a kickoff event with the candidate. but the audit commissioned by the county and performed by retired santa clara county judge ladoris cordell,

cites one current employee at the millbrae sheriff's substation. she says when corpus worked there before she became sheriff, the employee saw her and i and j kissing, giving each other massages and making flirty jokes that made her uncomfortable. corpus and now i and j say that's a lie, and i'm done with that. >> and i'm done. because this has been played over and over just to smear her name. >> i did notice, and i've reported that most of the accusations, in terms of you and the sheriff being romantic, came from a single employee, correct? >> i don't want to get into uh- employee issues. i'm saying that her statements are not truthful. i believe she had an agenda behind them. >> let's talk about those 40 people that judge cordell interviewed. are you saying that most of those are supporters of the former sheriff bolanos? >> absolutely. i'm saying that uh- and a few of them are just scared for their job, because if you don't kiss the ring in this county, they will push you out.

>> i and j was third in line as civilian chief of staff, reporting to undersheriff dan perea. from those interviews, the cordell report concluded i and j had major influence over the sheriff, and that lies secrecy, retaliation, conflicts of interest and abuse of authority are the hallmarks of the corpus administration. >> obviously, it doesn't feel good. it's disappointing. i think the people that are there know the truth and know what's been done to this point. >> the report found that i and j may have committed a misdemeanor crime for willfully wearing a facsimile badge that allows him to impersonate a full time, salaried employee, and that the sheriff could face a misdemeanor charge for giving it to him. and j badge has a chief of staff bar at the top sideline. >> i think before she made those negligent statements and she should have checked, i and j provided his training records that show he's a reserve deputy for the department, has all the training of a full time sworn

officer. >> he also worked at the department's firing range as an instructor for nine years. here's him teaching county supervisor noelia corzo to shoot. she's now his biggest detractor, so she's very concerned that she's coming up for reelection and she has no money. >> so i've been told that she's made some deals with certain people i don't know. i don't know if that's factual or not that they're going to fund her. and that's why she's doing this. she's disclosed this to a number of people, and j told me his work as a realtor and a personal protection stopped when corpus brought him on as chief of staff. >> i also asked about expensive gifts. the report accuses him of giving the sheriff. did you buy $11,000 diamond earrings and louboutin boots for the sheriff? no, i did not. where'd that come from? >> i have no idea. >> i also asked about donald trump's september 12th fundraising visit to woodside. the report says the campaign staff allowed the sheriff to designate two people for a photo with the now president elect. she picked a captain and a deputy. an fbi agent claims i and j approached, identified

himself as chief of staff and said who? a deputy getting a photo over me. the report says he made a scene until he was allowed to take this picture. >> the main guy that was running the security, i knew him very well because i just come online, come in the line and take a picture with us and whatever else and ended up there. the guy came up to me and goes, hey, you're not on the list. i'm like, yeah, who are you? i said, i'm the chief of staff. i'm i'm here taking place at the sheriff's. okay. that's fine. whatever. >> just move forward with all of this flack with calls from the board of supervisors, the deputy sheriffs union, and the captains for the sheriff and her chief of staff to resign. victor j says he will not. i think the residents of this county deserve more, and that's what sheriff corpus has been fighting for. >> and in my opinion, i continue to encourage her and support her because at the end of all this, she's going to be victorious. >> for the i-team, dan noyes, abc seven news. >> this, of course, is a developing story and we will keep you posted on any further updates. all right. let's get you outside. how's it looking?

monday for central sonoma county, where some of the small streams are still experiencing flooding. so be careful. the roadways still lots of water out there and we're going to add to it today with a level one system, a little bit of shower activity, not much, but we are looking at a level one today and tomorrow. uh- today, less than a 10th of an inch out there and we're going to add in some south winds. but the beginning of the day will be sunny. so looking at much of california and you'll notice there's a lot of cloud cover offshore. so we're still looking at some instability. and the next system will be poised

from the central coast into southern california. we'll get a piece of that action. but i don't think a whole lot of it. so right now things are quiet. and as we look at our current numbers, really cold out there from the mid 40s to the upper 30s in many areas, 36 in livermore, looking at 41 by the delta and palo alto, as well as danville. temperatures continue to drop off this morning and we have fog, lots of it in the north bay, a mile and a quarter visibility. san jose had some fog, so looking at most of it in the north bay, but we've had it by the delta, a lot of wet ground out there. so our forecast headlines for the week ahead. we have morning fog, some sun in the afternoon then clouding up with showers level one system today. tomorrow the showers will be a little bit more widespread. moving up from the south and then looking at tuesday possibility of that all sinking to the south. so wednesday, thanksgiving and the weekend really is looking pretty dry. we'll take you hour by hour. the south winds kicking up throughout the day today and then looking at partly cloudy

conditions. stopping this at about 4:00. and you can see it's raining up in cloverdale and clear lake unfortunately a little bit in marin county. and then throughout the rest of the evening hours, most of the activity up to the north, light showers through napa. this is what happens on monday. notice this is moving in from the south. so we are looking at a wet commute for the east bay. the peninsula, the south bay down by half moon bay. and then throughout the afternoon we get a few showers up to the north. and then it looks like by late monday into tuesday this wants to pull away. so that would be some good news. rainfall amounts for today. very light out there. notice a couple hundredths. this is monday into early monday. then we add to the totals more. so here. east bay a third of an inch as well as the south bay, ben lomond and lesser amounts to the north. winter storm warning monday through wednesday with 1 to 2ft above 7000ft, 5 to 9in at our ski resort. so that's some

for one night. the drive thru light show at christmas in the park is being converted to a bikes only event, so only cyclists will be permitted to ride through the holiday themed light show. the show runs through new year's day at history park in san jose, and tickets are still available online starting at $11. you can find more information on their website at christmas in the park.com. looks very festive and fun, as does this. the fairmont gingerbread house is now open for the holiday season in san francisco. it's a life size two story victorian house in the fairmont lobby made more than 8000 edible baked bricks and more than a ton of icing and candy decorations. guests can also admire the 23 foot tall christmas tree or contribute to the donation box, benefiting make-a-wish greater bay area. it's all on display through january 1st. more than 100 kids
