first responders want everyone to know. following two storm related deaths. good morning everybody. it's sunday, november 24th, and we continue to track the impacts from those storms. >> yes, we still have flood advisory for central sonoma, where the water is still trying to recede. and as we look at live doppler seven, we are not all clear. look at all those lightning strikes off the coast. we're not going to get that, but we are going to get some of the instability in the form of showers. so here we are up in the north bay, just east of guerneville, where in sonoma county, this flood advisory until 6:00. so forestville, graton, santa rosa, still looking at receding water and later today adding more showers. just a few. not a whole lot. the winds will pick up anywhere from five hundredths to a 10th of an inch expected. it's cold. it's dry this morning. 36 in livermore, 42 in fremont. anywhere from 8 to 11 degrees colder and there's fog, especially up in the north bay. quarter mile visibility for santa rosa. so later on today is when you'll see the showers up in the north bay about 2:00 in

between now and then, it's some sunshine, cool temperatures, a little muggy out there. and then by three 4:00 you can see from cloverdale, santa rosa, marin county, and then into san francisco. throughout the early evening hours. the focus is in the north bay today. it shifts tomorrow and perhaps into tuesday. i'll have the details coming up. stephanie. >> all right, lisa, thank you. here's the latest from the north bay. one person died after he tried to drive through a flooded road in guerneville and in santa rosa. the body of another man was recovered from a creek with high waters. both cities received more than nine inches of rain since wednesday. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has the message from first responders. >> our message to the public is turn around. don't drown. >> it's a motto. first responders use all the time. but on saturday, the driver of a compact car drove into the flooded maze canyon road in guerneville. >> right around 1130, a call came in from a person who saw a car bobbing in the water. >> the flood water, 6 to 7ft

deep. an attempt to rescue the driver, becoming a grim recovery effort. >> the sheriff's office responded. in addition to sonoma county fire district and monticello fire, and they performed a rescue and they pulled a person from the car who was unfortunately pronounced deceased here at the scene. so we have one person who did not make it. >> in santa rosa, the body of a man was recovered in piner creek saturday alongside a popular hiking trail. >> i hike here, walk here and i've never seen the water that high. >> alan johnson says the creek rose at least six feet after record rainfall. santa rosa police say the man's death a possible drowning. it's unclear how the victim got into the creek. more than a foot of rain slamming sonoma county in three days, causing the russian river to flood in spots like this mobile home park in forestville, many roads are still flooded. sadly, this is not the first time drivers have lost their lives here in the north bay in flood waters. just over the last

three days, first responders have been very busy rescuing people from their cars. >> please do not drive into flooded roadways. it puts you at risk and us at risk trying to get you out. on friday night, the driver and passenger in this jeep had to be rescued on slosser road in forestville, which was closed due to flooding in 2023. >> a woman drowned in her car after driving into a flooded road. >> we definitely, definitely wish people would not do that. they wish they would heed the signs and turn around, you know, find another way out. your life is worth it in sonoma county. >> cornell, bernard abc seven news and on the peninsula. >> take a look at this. san mateo home is now redtagged after a large oak tree crashed down on it yesterday morning. the tree split in half and then fell onto the roof above a woman's bedroom. thankfully, she was not hurt. maple street, between barneston and madison avenues is back open after being temporarily closed in this area,

and it's been a messy few days in the sierra with a lot of snow falling. if you're making the drive, be prepared right now. chains are required on interstate 80, as well as highways 50 and 88 on saturday. traffic was backed up on highway 50 in myers because of numerous spinouts. you can track the weather where you live with the abc seven bay area app. it's easy to use and you can get the latest forecast and look at the same live doppler seven radar. lisa and the weather team use just search abc seven bay area in your device's app store to download it now. new this morning, eight suspects, including juveniles as young as 12 years old, have been arrested in connection to an organized retail crime spree. they're accused of targeting multiple walgreens around san francisco. and according to police, they've stolen over $84,000 in merchandise. and at least 23 thefts starting in july. the investigation started after a violent robbery at the potrero avenue location. the suspects face charges ranging from assault and robbery to organized

retail theft and grand theft. they are all residents of the bay area in the south bay. community members held a vigil to remember trans lives lost, and as abc seven news reporter tara campbell explains, it marked an alarming trend. >> reporter michelle henry one name at a time, remembering those lost within the transgender community. >> it's a fairly, you know, emotional event, so to speak, remembering all of our fallen, the faces of those fallen, lit by candle in san jose, honoring lives taken around the world since launching nearly a decade ago. >> the trans murder monitoring project has tracked the murder of more than 5000 transgender people. its latest report, released this week on transgender day of remembrance, showing this year so far, there's been 350 murders, surpassing last year's total of 321. you'll see names of people who have died because of

violence enacted against them. >> so we are just here to show that they matter and their deaths were not in vain. trans power, trans power. >> and amid the mourning, a rally cry joe trump grassroots organizing needs to be in its full swing as we're prepared to see a lot of repression from trump's presidency, as well as other very conservative policies that are passed around the country. according to the human rights campaign, nearly 40% of transgender youth live in states with laws prohibiting gender affirming care. >> with the tensions increasing all across the country, we have to organize. we have to defend ourselves, and we have to educate, know trump. >> and so they are raising their voices while also remembering tara campbell. abc seven news. >> as we head to break, let's

see traffic very light this morning at six, ten, ten more days. that's how much longer the public has to give feedback on proposed bridge toll increases. last week, the bay area toll authority heard public comment on the proposal. all but the golden gate bridge would be affected. currently, the toll on state owned bridges is $7. it goes up to $8 next year. tolls could go up to 1150 by year 2030. under this new proposal, officials say they need the money for maintenance. commissioners are expected to vote on the proposal on december 18th. a barn owl is recovering this morning after being rescued here in san francisco. san francisco animal care and control saved this little owl you see trapped in a built in flower pot last night in laurel heights. san francisco fire was there to help pull the bird to safety from the upper floor of this home. and officers say the owl is stable and will likely be transferred to a wildlife rehab facility this weekend. well, the holiday season is here, and that

means increased risk of respiratory illnesses like covid, rsv, and of course, the flu. things like air travel and indoor gatherings put people at greater risk of getting sick. health experts say it's best to get all your vaccinations well ahead of the holidays. >> vaccines don't work immediately. they take about a week to two weeks for the person to develop full immune immune responses. and so that's why we always recommend for respiratory virus season that people start getting vaccinated as early as possible in the fall. >> we're past that two week point for a pre-thanksgiving vaccination, but getting a vaccine at any time is better than not at all. to be ready for christmas, doctors recommend getting vaccinated by december 10th, december 11th for hanukkah and december 17th for new year's eve. a san francisco law firm helped kick off the holiday week with a giveaway of hundreds of turkeys. volunteers from the walk up law firm melodic and

kelly schoenberger teamed up with students and alumni from san francisco's lowell high school. they gave away 700 turkeys for thanksgiving, and this year, the law firm teamed up with eight different schools and identified the families most in need. those families drove up and picked up their turkeys, as well as gift certificates for groceries. >> just watching the people who are receiving turkeys now, it's joyful. and that is, i think, the biggest takeaway for us is that we are feeling more connected and feeling more joyful this year, and they're not running out. >> this is the second year for the walk up law firm's turkey giveaway. great to see that. and here's another giving story in san mateo county. this is an annual thanksgiving tradition here. about 190 residents in need receive free turkeys, eggs, and boxes full of thanksgiving trimmings. this is the sixth year san mateo county supervisor david canepa has partnered with friends of old town and other community groups. they help older and food insecure residents celebrate the holiday.

looking at some problems there with just too much water. look at the trough offshore. you can see all the activity, the lightning strikes. we're going to get into some rain with this system passing to the north of us, and it will bring in our storm impact scale again, a level one afternoon and evening showers. the winds get a little bit breezy, and we are looking at less than a 10th of an inch of rain. this continues then into monday with the second atmospheric river that is poised to hit the central coast and portions of southern california, not the bay area. 48 in san francisco and oakland, with 40 in redwood city. it is chilly out there. a festive look from our exploratorium camera, where we have low 40s santa rosa, petaluma and fairfield with 39 in livermore. fog has been an issue for parts of the north bay. the delta a quarter mile visibility. santa rosa. the rest of us doing okay as we look at our morning fog. then we'll get into some sun and then some showers for your monday. the rain will become more widespread, focusing on the peninsula, the south bay. still

some in the north bay. tuesday. not convinced we're going to see a lot of rain, but i'm putting it there with monday and then by wednesday into thanksgiving and the holiday, it's looking dry. here we go. hour by hour, by 4:00, the rain is along the coast, moving into sonoma, then napa, then into san francisco. here it is, 11:00. there's not a whole lot of shower activity, but we don't need any more, right? this is into monday. more rain moving up from the south as a system will push to the south and east of us throughout the monday tuesday time frame. so later on on monday, widespread shower activity. but we will look for those breezy winds today, tomorrow and then look what happens as we get into tuesday. doesn't look like a whole lot of activity wants to visit us, so i'm keeping tuesday as a maybe. so as we go into monday looking at maybe a couple hundredths, then here comes that second system for the afternoon and evening hours, 2/10, maybe a

friday deals, the store will be closed on thanksgiving day. this is the third costco warehouse in the tri valley area after danville and livermore. it's also the second bay area location to open recently after the napa store opened in october. another consumer news, facebook and instagram users have long complained there is no way to get help when hackers take over their accounts. but as we've reported, parent company meta offers a paid subscription service for personalized care called meta verified. so seven on your side looked into whether or not it's actually helping consumers. when hackers get involved. >> oh my gosh, i was relieved we told you about tovah ridgway, who tried for months to recover her stolen facebook account. >> she even marched down to meta headquarters in menlo park demanding help. nothing worked until she paid $14.99 for one month of meta verified within a day, a live agent on chat restored her account. >> i was able to get all my

memories back, my memories of my kid, me and my husband, she got help. >> i was like, what the heck? how come i didn't help in my situation? >> daniel gomes lost his facebook account back in august and he couldn't get it back either. >> i lost all my photo albums with family. a lot of important stuff was on there. >> facebook's automated help pages kept sending him in circles, so he paid $14.99 for one month of meta verified. but his case wasn't so simple. >> i'm here to tell you meta verified does not always work. >> hackers had used daniel's facebook profile to set up a fake instagram account. meta suspended the fake account and daniel's facebook, too. after nearly two dozen live chats with meta verified he still got the same error message. so he paid for a second month. then a third. >> maybe my issue is too complicated, but it definitely didn't work for me. >> after multiple attempts, he points to the latest chat where an agent typed, hi danny, thank you for contacting the meta pro team. may i confirm you are

calling about bullying? >> i don't think they understood what happened. >> daniel replied. no not bullying. my facebook account was hacked and suspended. the agent typed thank you for confirming your phone number and bringing this concern to our attention. we duly understand how important this is for you. >> it feels like you're talking to a robot. it doesn't feel human at all. it doesn't feel like a human interaction. >> was he chatting with a bot or a human? he wasn't sure. but the next message said the best way to submit an appeal for your account being hacked is at facebook.com. >> here's a link. try to do it yourself. pretty much. i'm paying money to not get help at all. >> the next message said may i confirm that i was able to answer all your questions for today? daniel replied, yeah, but it didn't help at all. the chat said it's been a pleasure having you today. this case will now be closed. have a great and beautiful day. >> okay, have a nice day. have a nice, beautiful sunny day. >> we found many reports online and to seven on your side from

>> good morning everybody. thank you for joining us this half hour. the holiday travel week is already in full swing. we're tracking about 45 delays out of sfo right now. so if you're heading out, check your flight and the weather hopefully will. >> yeah. you know what? nothing like what we've seen. we still have some showers for today and tomorrow. level one system and watching the creeks and streams as they continue to have a little bit of flooding there up in the north bay central sonoma until 6:00 tomorrow. another weak system headed our way. you can see the lightning strikes a trough sweeping to the north of us, allowing for scattered showers later this afternoon and evening. the winds will kick up less than a 10th of an inch. and look at this. it is pretty from mount tam 48 there, as well as san jose and from our sutro tower camera 7:00 sunrise 41 santa rosa and fairfield. so much colder anywhere from 10 to 11 degrees colder. concord, livermore, half moon bay and fog has been an issue from santa rosa. quarter mile visibility. and as we look at the next several hours, we're dry to

seven. overseas. now, ukrainian president volodymyr zelenskyy says the war with russia could end sometime next year. he says his country is open to various proposals, but is waiting to see what president elect trump comes up with. zelenskyy believes trump will have proposals in january and believes there will be a path to ending the war that's gone on now for more than two years. he's hopeful there will be a diplomatic solution. cannons fired in milwaukee, wisconsin, to celebrate the navy's newest combat ship, the uss beloit, was officially commissioned. retired major general marcia anderson served as the ship's sponsor. she's no stranger to making history. after becoming the first black woman to achieve the rank of major general in the army back in 2011. >> the weight of it kind of hit me that, you know, when you're the first, you have a responsibility to get it right because the people that follow you are going to have to walk in

out of sfo this morning, as well as seven from sjc. check your flight. the man at the center of the controversy around san mateo county sheriff christina corpus, is now telling his side of the story. the sheriff's chief of staff says the scathing report against corpus and her administration is built on lies, including their alleged romantic relationship. all of it has led to a criminal investigation and repeated calls for the sheriff to resign. abc seven news i-team reporter dan noyes has this interview. you'll see only on seven. >> sheriff cristina corpus told me earlier this week that she's known victor j. >> for 17 years, and we are colleagues. i consider him a trusted confidant. >> a friend during all that time, did you and her ever become romantic? no. there's never been physical contact or a dating relationship. no. the longtime realtor became indispensable during corpus campaign for sheriff. that's him. during a kickoff event with the candidate. but the audit

look at live doppler seven. you see that green right there? that's the flood advisory that is still with us for central sonoma, where the creeks and streams trying to really get within their banks in forestville, santa rosa and parts of graton. a dense fog advisory from vallejo towards the delta. visibility at about a 16th of a mile here. so keep that in mind if you are headed out. we have a system offshore and most of the energy will be pushing to the north of us, but we're going to get some rain.
