peninsula came to the rescue of a horse, and a significant development in an ongoing hotel strike. more workers walk off the job. the news at five starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> so it was high enough that it made our refrigerators float. wow. >> he is talking about flood water. an area hit hard by our severe weather is now cleaning up and drying out. and while the worst of the storm may be over, its impact certainly is not. thanks for joining us everyone. i'm dion lim. we begin tonight on storm watch and there is a new round of rain sweeping into the bay area. you can see it there on our live doppler seven radar. you can see. spencer joins us now with what's next for this weather system, spence. okay, dion. >> our brief weekend break from the rain is ending right now. here's a look a composite image. and you can see next wave of rain beginning to push onshore right now in the north bay. so let's take a closer look.

the approaching storm is a level one storm. a light storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale for tonight and early tomorrow. we can expect evening showers tonight. of course, and then showers spreading to all areas during the overnight hours into early tomorrow morning. here's the forecast animation starting at 5 p.m. notice that for most of tonight, this will be mainly a north bay event until just after midnight. then we'll see the rain spreading to all parts of the bay area. so look for a wet morning commute, especially in the north bay. and as the rain continues tomorrow, it looks like the evening commute will be impacted as well. but this is not a heavy rainfall system. we're expecting rainfall totals generally about five hundredths of an inch to 2/10 of an inch for most of the bay area. however, ben lomond and santa rosa are likely to receive over a third of an inch. i'll have a look at the full seven-day forecast in a few minutes. >> dion all right, watching it closely, spencer. thank you. now to the storm's lingering impact. it will be felt by many long after that rain ends. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard is live for us in forrestville. and, boy, the scene behind you pretty

intense. >> yeah. dion, some roads here in the russian river valley are still flooded, like trenton road here in forestville down in guerneville. a lot of businesses were hit hard by the storms,sses which brought a lot of flooding. >> i think the owner and i have wanted to cry, but we haven't yet. >> joey lewis is still checking out all the flood damage ■inside the surrey resort in guerneville, where he's the manager. >> so how high was the water? >> so we got about this high. you can see the wet bricks. >> here's what things look like after 72 hours of epic rain. more than three feet of flood water inside the resort's historic great hall, furnishings and appliances were floating even more water in the parking lot, and as you see now, it's on the floor. >> and when i came in yesterday, it was floating, cafe worker ali pospelova shows us the toppled fridge.

>> she can't believe the damage. >> it was very heartbreaking. i am still recovering in a little shock. this is my first experience with a flood in the area and well, it's a learning experience too. next time we will be more prepared and then our beautiful pool, the largest pool in guerneville and now the dirtiest. >> this was the pool area over the summer we did save a few things that were on the bar. >> it was high enough. some fans and some other things, but for the most part we've probably seen a good 80% loss on the stuff that was in here. so flooding remains a very real issue across the area where the swollen russian river is still leaving some roads, even vineyards under water. >> the flood water rose several feet inside this downtown guerneville mobile home park. it's now receded, but lots of debris left behind. >> tide was up to 34.8, which came up to the second step.

was 34.5, 34.5ft where it crested. >> well, a man down. way down. down, down by the docks. >> some are singing the blues. they live near johnson's beach now, waiting on higher ground for the river to recede. so they can return home. back at surrey resort, the team is now starting to clean up and dry out. >> now we are going to clean up, recover and move forward. >> yeah, we wish them well. the resort staff says they hope to partially reopen the resort in about three weeks. the sonoma county fire district reminding folks that a lot of roads are still closed due to flooding, and those signs saying road closed should be obeyed. we're live in sonoma county tonight. cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> always good reminders.

cornell. much appreciated. now we are still working to learn more about the deaths of two people during our stormy weather. one died yesterday morning after trying to drive through a flooded road in guerneville in santa rosa. the body of a man was recovered in piner creek, which was swollen with high water. the national weather service says santa rosa received 13.2in of rain from wednesday to saturday. further north in placer county, the search is for on two men swept away in the american river last night. this all happened south of auburn, where the sheriff's office says a group of three men went to the area to fish. two men, both 20 years old, got into the water and one got swept away. the second n was pulled in by the currentnd n when he tried to help on the peninsula. firefighters rescued a 29 year old horse that got stuck in the mud. take a look. just before 11 this morning, that horse fell into a pit in woodside. an equine rescue team and firefighters used straps and a tractor to help that tired,

weakened horse. >> we were able to successfully use the tractor to gently lift that horse and allow it to get on its four legs, which it did pretty quickly, and then again, give it some time to recover. and ultimately the rescue operation was successful. >> now the good news the horse was able to walk unassisted after that rescue. moving to the sierra now. here is an overview of driving conditions around tahoe. stretches of freeway are wet, but you can see mostly clear of snow. there are currently no chain restrictions on i-80 or highway 50, and the greater lake tahoe area is under a winter storm warning from 1 a.m. tomorrow morning to 4 a.m. on wednesday. up to 1 to 2ft of snow is expected above 7000ft, with 2 to 8in elsewhere. the national weather service says the upcoming dumping of snow could make travel very difficult to nearly impossible. now all of that snow is starting to pile up in the sierra. check out this

demanding better wages, improved staffing as well as affordable health care. >> the company had to be ready to negotiate in good faith because we are ready to go for thanksgiving. we are ready to go for christmas. we are ready to go for new year and whatever it takes until we get a fair contract and we get our demands. >> marriott says the marquis remains open. marriott, hilton and hyatt say they will continue negotiating with the union. eight suspects, including childre, have been arrested, all in connection to an organized retail crime spree. they're accused of targeting walgreens stores around san francisco. police say the group includes kids as young as 12. they're accused of stealing more than $84,000 in merchandise in at least 23 thefts, starting back in july. the investigation started after a violent robbery at the potrero avenue, walgreens. those suspects face charges ranging from assault and robbery to organized retail theft and grand theft. they

weather out of it and winds are already increasing, especially near the coast where we now have wind speeds between 12 and 15mph. we've seen them gradually increasing over the last hour or so, 24 hour temperature change doesn't show a significant i mean, not a dramatic change, but it's 2 or 3 degrees warmer, right now than yesterday. at this time in most bay area locations. here's a view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco, where it's 59 degrees 58. in oakland, we've got low 60s in hayward, san jose, redwood city at 54 at half moon bay, looking out over the golden gate. we've got mixed sky conditions right now. some clouds, some clear breaks, but clouds will be increasing rapidly this evening. 56 degrees in santa rosa right now, 54 at petaluma and fairfield. now napa. only 46 degrees. and we have upper 50s at concord and livermore and the post-sunset sky is lovely as we look westward from the east bay hills. camera. the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale indicates that the approaching storm is a light level one storm, so for tonight and into tomorrow, we'll see evening

showers in the north bay, then rain in all areas by morning winds generally out of the south southeast at 5 to 15mph. they may increase those winds sometime tomorrow. here's the forecast animation for this evening. between now and about midnight, we'll see. rain spreading, mainly showers over the north bay. then after midnight that rain will spread to other parts of the bay area. we'll have a surge of rain from the south, joining the wave of rain coming down from the northwest. so all areas will see some rainfall as the morning commute gets underway tomorrow and even going into the evening commute looks like there'll be an impact on commuters as well. but the rain should be all over by about 11:00 tomorrow night and rainfall totals will generally range from about five hundredths of an inch to maybe 2/10, except santa rosa and ben lomond, which will both have over a third of an inch of rain. and in the sierra, a winter storm warning in effect from 1 a.m. tomorrow to 4 a.m. wednesday. 1 to 2ft of snow expected above 7000ft, but only about 2 to 9in elsewhere. winds, however, will be gusty up to or even above 50mph. overnight. lows here in the
