workers walk off the job. the news at six starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> so it was high enough that it made our refrigerators float. >> he is talking about flood water. an area hard hit by our severe weather is now cleaning up and drying out. and while the worst of the storm may be over, its impact certainly isn't. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. we begin tonight on storm watch. right now there is a new round of rain sweeping into the bay area. you can see we are tracking it with our live doppler seven. let's bring in abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian with what's next for this system, spence. >> okay, dion, what's next is we'll probably have a wet commute tomorrow morning, but right now, most of the bay area is dry as the first wave of showers is beginning to move onshore in the north bay. this is going to be mainly a north bay event as it starts, but by the time by the time we get to the

morning commute, it will be. excuse me losing my voice. it will be raining in other parts of the bay area. this storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale is a light level one storm. so for tonight into tomorrow morning, we're talking about evening showers up until about midnight. and then the rain will spread to other parts of the bay area for the morning commute and throughout the day tomorrow. rain in all areas by morning winds out of the south southeast at 5 to 15mph. here's the forecast animation starting at 630. notice between now and about midnight. still mainly a north bay event, but there is moisture and rainfall surging up from the south, and those two will meet by about 5 a.m, producing a wet morning commute for the entire bay area and then throughout the remainder of the day. tomorrow, there will be showers and periods of light rain across the region, leading into a wet evening commute. as well. more on my accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. dion. >> all right, sounds good. spencer. thanks. now to the storm's lingering impact. it will be felt by many long ar the rain ends. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard spent the day in sonoma, where high water is still an issue.

>> i think the owner and i have wanted to cry, but we haven't yet. >> joey lewis is still checking out all the flood damage inside the surrey resort in guerneville, where he's the manager. >> so how high was the water? >> so we got about this high. you can see the wet bricks. >> here's what things look like after 72 hours of epic rain. more than three feet of flood water inside the resort's historic great hall, furnishings and appliances were floating even more water in the parking lot. >> and as you see now, it's on the floor. and when i came in yesterday, it was floating. >> cafe worker ali pospelova shows us the toppled fridge. she can't believe the damage. >> it was very heartbreaking. i am still recovering in a little shock. this is my first experience with a flood in the area and well, it's a learning experience to the next time we will be more prepared and then our beautiful pool, the largest

pool in guerneville and now the dirtiest. >> this was the pool area. >> over the summer we did save a few things that were on the bar. it was high enough. some fans and some other things, but for the most part we've probably seen a good 80% loss on the stuff that was in here. so flooding remains a very real issue across the area where the swollen russian river is still leaving some roads, even vineyards underwater. >> the flood water rose several feet inside this downtown guerneville mobile home park. it's now receded, but lots of debris left behind. >> tide was up to 34.8, which came up to the second step. that was 34.5, 34.5ft where it crested. >> well, man down. way down. down, down by the docks. >> some are singing the blues.

they live near johnson's beach now. waiting on higher ground for the river to recede. so they can return home. back at surrey resort, the team is now starting to clean up and dry out. >> now we are going to clean up, recover and move forward. the resort staff says they hope to partially reopen in about three weeks and we wish them well. >> sonoma county fire district reminding drivers to stay off of closed, flooded roads with posted signs. it is still too dangerous to drive through in sonoma county. cornell, bernard abc seven news such a good reminder we are still learning to learn more about the deaths of two people during our stormy weather. >> one person died yesterday morning after trying to drive through a flooded road in guerneville in santa rosa. the body of a man was recovered in piner creek, which was swollen with high water. the national weather service says santa rosa received 13.2in of rain from wednesday to saturday. now further north in placer county,

the search is on for two men swept away in the american river last night. this all happened south of auburn. the sheriff's office says a group of three men went to the area to fish and two men, both 20 years old, got into the water. one was then swept away. the second man s pulled in by the current when he tried to help. on the peninsula, firefighters rescued a 29 year old horse that got stuck in the mud. take a look. just before 11:00 this morning, that horse fell into a pit in woodside. an equine rescue team and firefighters used straps, even a tractor to help out that tired, weakened horse. >> we were able to successfully use the tractor to gently lift that horse and allow it to get on its four legs, which it did pretty quickly. and then again, give it some time to recover. and ultimately the rescue operation was successful. >> the horse was able to walk unassisted after that rescue. in the sierra. here's an overview of driving conditions around the

tahoe area. stretches of freeway are wet, but you can see mostly clear of that snow. there are no chain restrictions currently on i-80 or highway 50. the greater lake tahoe area is under a winter storm warning, though from 1 a.m. tomorrow morning to 4 a.m. on wednesday. up to 1 to 2ft of snow is expected above 7000ft, with 2 to 8in elsewhere. the national weather service says the upcoming dumping of snow could make travel difficult to nearly impossible. all of that snow is starting to pile up in the sierra. this is new video shared by palisades tahoe, where officials there say they've received 23in of fresh powder over the past seven days, including 12in alone since friday. snowmaking teams are using the cold temperatures to continue to add to their snow base. more snow is expected to start falling tonight, and be sure to track the weather where you live with our abc seven bay area app. you can get the latest

suspects, including children, have been arresten connection to an organized retail crime spree. they're accused of targeting walgreens stores around san francisco. police say the group includes kids as young as 12. they're accused of stealing more than $84,000 in merchandise in at least 23 thefts, starting back in july. the investigation started after a violent robbery at the potrero avenue walgreens, where the suspects face charges ranging from assault and robbery to organized retail theft and grand theft. they are all bay area residents. just ahead, the holiday getaway has begun. we'll help you avoid the hassle if you're heading to the airport. find out the days when crowds are expected to peak and the california farm involved in a nationwide recall has issued an update

after the holiday. officials expect nearly 3 million people to be screened on both tuesday and wednesday, with more than 3 million passengers screened next sunday. in this season of givin, there's an increased need for lifesaving blood donations. vitalant says donations tend to decline more than 20% during the holidays, and especially the days around thanksgiving. so in response, they're holding two blood drives this week. tomorrow at cambrian park church in san jose from noon to five. and on tuesday, a drive will be held at the usf school of nursing in san francisco from 9 a.m. to 145. people are encouraged to make appointments at the vitalant site to donate. well, new details now. the california farm at the center of a major recall is returning their product to store shelves, and they want consumers to know they are okay to eat. grimmway farms voluntarily recalled theirfarms carrots last week after people got sick from e-coli. they say the recalled product is no

open fire. >> yes. jack frost nipping at your nose. >> all of it. give it to me. the works. yeah. >> let's take a look at what's happening with our weather. jack frost won't be nipping at our nose for a while, but it is going to get wet out there. as you can see on live doppler seven in the satellite. rain is approaching us at this moment. the winds are well. it's breezy. we don't have gusty wind at the moment, but we've had wind speeds near the coast up to about 12 15mph in the last hour or so. here's the view from sutro tower looking out over san francisco, where it's currently 57 degrees. we have upper 50s also at oakland, hayward, san jose, and redwood city at 54 at half moon bay. things are calm and quiet and dry at the golden gate. 5455 degrees rather at santa rosa, 54 petaluma, napa. a cool 46 and we have mid to upper 50s at fairfield, concord and livermore. and looking out over the bay from our east bay hills. camera. these these are our forecast features. this is our abc seven exclusive storm impact scale. the approaching storm is a light level one storm. so for this evening showers giving way

to steadier, more widespread rain in the early morning hours. rain in all areas in fact, by early morning into midday and the winds will be out of the south southeast at about 5 to 15mph. here's the forecast animation starting at 630. notice right now there are some showers moving on shore in the far northern part of our viewing area, and those showers will continue to expand up until about midnight, mainly in the north bay. this is a mainly a north bay event until after midnight. then after midnight we'll see a surge of light showers coming up from the south and that little sweeping line of showers from the north by 5:00 tomorrow morning. as the commute gets underway, it will be wet in many regions of the bay area. this is not going to be a soaking rain, but there will be wet and slippery pavement. and then by 10:00 tomorrow night, it will be pretty much all over. rainfall totals we estimate by 11:00. tomorrow night will generally be between five hundredths of an inch and about 2/10 of an inch, but some locations will get more out of this, maybe a quarter of an inch at ukiah and nearly a half inch

expected down at ben lomond. on we go to the sierra, where winter storm warning will be in effect from 1 a.m. tomorrow to 4 a.m. wednesday, 1 to 2ft of snow expected above 7000ft. only about 2 to 9in elsewhere, with gusty wind up to about 50mph. overnight lows here in the bay area will generally range from mid 40s up to about 50. high temperatures tomorrow, generally upper 50s. it's going to be a cool, rather chilly day. 1 or 2 locations may hit 60, and here's the accuweather seven day forecast tuesday. light rain as well. so we have two consecutive days of level one storm activity on wednesday. sunshine returns thursday thanksgiving day. it will be dry and pleasant for the holiday, although a little bit cooler outside. it will start to get milder as we go later into the week into next weekend with a mix of sun and clouds, but it looks like the rainy weather will be over by wednesday. >> welcome to sports. the four niners limped into lambeau field this afternoon green bay. no. brock purdy at quarterback. no. nick bosa, charvarius ward also out. and trent williams, who was a game

at 11, a bird flu alert pulling a certain kind of milk from store shelves. how a bay area lab is making sure our milk is safe to sip. plus, the fight over the future of an iconic east bay landmark. is this tower too tall or just right? well, finally. now an unusual rescue in san francisco. animal care and control officers are now caring for a barn owl that was stuck in a flower pot. the rescue happened last night at a home in laurel heights. take a look at. you can see. officers say the owl was soaked and lethargic and is now recovering at a shelter. barn owls aren't actually uncommon in san francisco. the barn owl is also the official bird of the city of berkeley. we certainly learned something we didn't know about the official bird. glad to know it's on the mend. >> an interesting creature, though. isn't it nice to watch? >> no, not sure why it was in
