>> always live, abc seven news starts right now. >> well, our break from the rain is almost over. we are tracking our next storm rolling into the bay area tonight on live doppler seven, bringing more wet weather to places still soaked from an historic storm. good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. our hardest hit communities have barely had time to dry out or clean up, but the good news is, our next round of rain is not looking nearly as intense as the last one. taking a live look outside. abc seven news anchor weather weather anchor spencer christian tracking those totals and the timing. certainly not ideal for the morning drive. spencer. >> oh, you're right about that. the rain is already falling in parts of sonoma county. it's going to spread even more before the morning commute begins, so it will be wet for many locations. as of 5:06 a.m, here's a look at what's happening on the satellite radar composite image. you can see that this system is pushing onshore right now. we don't have the full force of it yet. it's

going to expand. as i mentioned, during the overnight and daytime hours tomorrow. but this storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale is a light level one storm. so we expect overnight and tomorrow periods of rain and showers, wet roads for the morning commute. wet roads for the evening commute as well. winds generally out of the south southeast at about 15 miles, 5 to 15mph. here's the forecast animation starting at midnight. notice between midnight and 5 a.m. we'll see the rain expanding, dropping down from the north west and expanding upward from the southeast. so all parts of the bay area will get some wet weather out of this by the mid morning hours. going into midday, you'll see showers and periods of brief downpours going into the afternoon and evening hours. so again, both the morning and evening commutes will be wet with slippery roadways, but it should be all over by about 9:00 tomorrow night and pushing out of here. so we'll be left with rainfall totals. we estimate generally up to about 2/10 of an inch, but a little bit more in places like ukiah, a quarter of an inch there. dn at san jose, we expect a quarter of an inch and ben lomond almost

a half inch. and i'll have a look at the days to follow going into thanksgiving a little bit later. >> dion watching it all closely. all right spencer thanks. the cleanup is just beginning in the north bay with some spots still flooded after days of intense rain. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard takes us to sonoma county. >> i think the owner and i have wanted to cry, but we haven't yet. >> joey lewis is still checking out all the flood damage inside the surrey resort in guerneville, where he's the manager. >> so how high was the water? >> so we got about this high. you can see the wet bricks. >> here's what things look like after 72 hours of epic rain. more than three feet of flood water inside the resort's historic great hall furnishings and appliances were floating even more water in the parking lot. >> and as you see now, it's on the floor. and when i came in yesterday, it was floating. >> cafe worker ali pospelova shows us the toppled fridge. she can't believe the damage.

>> it was very heartbreaking. i am still recovering in a little shock. this is my first experience with a flood in the area and well, it's a learning experience too. next time we will be more prepared and then our beautiful pool, the largest pool in guerneville and now the dirtiest. >> this was the pool area over the summer we did save a few things that were on the bar. >> it was high enough. some fans, some other things, but for the most part we've probably seen a good 80% loss on the stuff that was in here. so flooding remains a very real issue across the area where the swollen russian river is still leaving some roads, even vineyards under water. >> the flood water rose several feet inside this downtown guerneville mobile home park. it's now receded, but lots of debris left behind. >> tide was up to 34.8, which came up to the second step. tha

was 34.5, 34.5ft where it crested. >> well, a man down. way down. down, down by the docks. >> some are singing the blues. they live near johnson's beach now, waiting on higher ground for the river to recede. so they can return home. back at surrey resort, the team is now starting to clean up and dry out. >> now we are going to clean up, recover and move forward. >> the resort staff says they hope to partially reopen in about three weeks and we wish them well. sonoma county fire district reminding drivers to stay off of closed, flooded roads with posted signs. it is still too dangerous to drive through in sonoma county. cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> good reminder. now, this next round of rain comes as thanksgiving travel is taking off. looking live out now at our bay area airports. several hundred delays today, mostly out

of sfo, but there were minimal cancellations. we know plenty of people will be hitting the road up to tahoe this week. and the highways, they are looking clear tonight, but the storm on the way could make for a rough drive. abc seven news reporter tim johns looks at the record shattering travel expected this week, and how the weather may get in the way. >> the busiest travel season of the year is officially upon us once again this week. as many as 80 million americans are expected to travel for the thanksgiving holiday, with many of them traveling by air transportation officials say they're ready. >> tsa is expecting a potentially record breaking holiday travel season. if recent experience is any guide, these will likely be some of the busiest travel days in u.s. history. >> not everyone will be flying, though, and triple a says they expect roadways to be congested. that might be especially true in and around the bay area, where another week of stormy weather is expected to impact travel plans. the tahoe region is set to receive several feet of snow

over the coming days. >> have your chains, your chain tensioners. make sure that you put them on your tires and make sure that they actually are fitted correctly. >> that message, seemingly heard by many at the sports basement in san francisco's marina district sunday night. assistant manager craig charnley says business has been up over the past few days. >> these are the first round of people hitting the snow. the ski area's got ready. they opened a few days early. >> while the roads are expected to be icy and clogged. that's not scaring everyone away. graham breitbart says he visits tahoe for thanksgiving most years and is determined not to let this year's weather change that. >> he actually went up last year as well, and i drove up like around 1 a.m. during the middle of a snowstorm. so i think i can handle it this year as well. >> and once folks actually arrive and the storm subside, cooper says visitors will likely be in for a holiday treat. >> we're going to be starting on anywhere from a foot to two, 3 to 3 plus feet of bass, which is going to be great for the thanksgiving holiday. >> a winter storm warning will be in effect for the tahoe

region from monday until wednesday morning in san francisco. tim johns abc seven news. >> a reminder you can track the weather where you live with the abc seven bay area app. you can get the latest forecast and a look at the same live doppler seven radar. our weather team uses. just search abc seven bay area in your device's app store to download it now. moving on. raw milk sold in bay area stores is being pulled from shelves tonight after testing positive for bird flu. raw farm of fresno county is recalling a batch of cream top whole raw milk. it has a best by date of november 27th. the county of santa clara public health lab has been testing milk for bird flu during the growing outbreak, and caught the bad batch. the state department of public health says no one has gotten sick from drinking the milk, and they add pasteurized milk remains safe to drink, but it is best to avoid raw dairy. bird flu is also having an impact on grocery store bills. the cost of eggs went up more

than 30% in october compared to last year, according to the consumer price index. prices are expected to go even higher, especially as the holiday season brings increased demand. the nationwide supply has been impacted since 2022. bird cases started to spike again last month, taking out 2.8 million egg laying birds across three states. that's a projected loss of about 60 million eggs. well, time now for our abc seven news at 11. looking ahead to the big headlines in the days to come. first. a critical hearing in the melendez brothers bid for freedom from their murder convictions. erik and lyle menendez are expected to appear in court virtually tomorrow for a status hearing. they're serving a life sentence for the 1989 murders of their parents. a new netflix series and documentary are fueling new interest in the case, as the menendez brothers attorney pushes for a new sentence, la district attorney george gascon supported the resentencing effort, but is about to leave

office. his successor, nathan hochman, says he wants to review the case before deciding where he stands. >> if you decide this case based on just reviewing a netflix documentary, you're doing a disservice to the menendez brothers, to the victim family members, to the public. >> the public can enter a lottery for one of 16 seats to watch that hearing in person tomorrow. our next advancer this week. the city of napa plans to begin installing the first of four red light cameras meant to make roads safer. on friday, they'll start installing the camera at lincoln and soscol avenues. three more intersections are slated to be installed by mid next year. once those cameras are up, the city will issue warnings for 30 days, and then after that, they will be giving out those citations to our final advancer. there is growing pushback tonight over the pn to upgrade the iconic tower at the lafayette reservoir. east bay mud plans to move forward next year with the seismic retrofit of the tower, which

includes shortening it by 40ft. the city is not on board with the change, arguing the retrofit would be done while still keeping the 170 foot height. this summer, east bay mud told us safety is at stake. >> our most recent analysis shows that in the maximum credible earthquake for that location, the tower would probably fail. >> tomorrow, the city council is asking for community feedback on the tower as it discusses the next steps. the city could ask east bay mud to hold community meetings next year to reconsider the design change. getting creative to give back in the bay area. a devastating fire didn't stop this church from helping its neighbors in need. tonight, a temporary solution offers a silver lining. plus, heading into the holiday season and the hotel strike is only growing. the major expansion sending workers to the picket line. >> and coming up in sports, the

we have a san francisco church devastated by fire. the church in the mission district also provided shelter for unhoused people. as abc seven news reporter tara campbell shows us, the church found solutions to keep up that work. and now they are just weeks away from reopening. >> this was the scene this spring at saint john evangelist episcopal church, the historic mission district building burned inside and out. the suspected arson forcing the congregation outside. >> there have been challenges for sure. worshiping outside and

suboptimal weather is difficult. >> it's also been difficult for the people relying on this sanctuary for shelter. it serves as a place for people to retreat during the day. but for the past two months, repairs have put them out. >> we're so close to sort of beating out the rain, but unfortunately the rain got to us before we were able to finish the job. >> there are still some more weeks of construction ahead, but they say there's been a silver lining. >> it's kind of been a beautiful opportunity. there are a lot of folks from the neighborhood who, during service, come and hang out in our garden when we would otherwise be inside. >> you know, you have to you have to make a win out of every tragedy. and the church getting burned was was really scary for us and the community. as a whole. but the ability to sort of clean up the space and make it make it more hospitable has been a big effort. >> the community coming through with donations, helping to make this makeshift shelter possible. >> while the insurance would pay

for the fire damage, it doesn't pay for the other things that we had to do to compensate for being able to like, put up a shelter for people to get out of the rain, their sights now set on getting back into this sanctuary for christmas. >> the sanctuary feels like our church home, and so being able to be back in there and cozy and warm on christmas eve, i think will feel particularly special this year. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> well, heading into the holidays and the san francisco hotel strike is growing, 500 more hotel workers hit the picket lines today. why do you want a contract? why do you want no union workers from the san francisco marriott marquis joined 2000 striking workers from the city's grand hyatt, hilton, union square, marriott, union square, palace hotel and the westin saint francis. they're demanding better wages, improved staffing, as well as affordable health care.

>> the company had to be ready to negotiate in good faith because we are ready to go for thanksgiving. we are ready to go for christmas. we are ready for to go for new year and whatever it takes until we get a fair contract and we get our demands. >> marriott says the marquis remains open. marriott, hilton and hyatt say they will continue negotiating with the union. a horse needed a helping hand. down on the peninsula today and firefighters came to the re. check this out. just before 11 this morning, that horse fell into a pit in woodside. an equine rescue team and firefighters used straps. even a tractor to help the tired, weakened horse out of the mud. >> we were able to successfully use the tractor to gently lift that horse and allow it to get on its four legs, which it did pretty quickly, and then again, give it some time to recover. and ultimately the rescue operation was successful. >> oh, thank goodness that horse was able to walk away on its own

after the rescue. so grateful story. yeah. those emergency crews jumping into action. yeah, this could have been a whole lot worse. >> it certainly could have. and we're happy for the rescuers and for the horse. yeah. >> and happy for our weather situation for the most part. >> yes. because finally, it looks like we're going to get just a little bit of rain and it's going to go away for a long time. here's a look at the satellite radar. as you can see, the showers beginning to push onshore. we're not getting reports from many locations yet of rainfall actually hitting the ground, except in places like in northern sonoma county. but trust me, it's going to hit all of the bay area before it's all over. the wind is very calm right now. wind speeds at the surface generally under ten miles per hour, so we don't have blustery conditions with this storm right now. we're looking out over san francisco under mainly clear skies, no clouds in sight at the moment. 54 degrees here in the city. in fact, mid 50s also at oakland and hayward. low 50s at san jose, redwood city and half moon bay. another clear view from mount tam looking down onto the bay. i guess the

clouds are all up north at the moment. 51 degrees in petaluma, 52 of 52 in petaluma, rather. santa rosa 51. uh- mid 40s. napa and fairfield. upper 40s at concord and livermore. and as we look across the embarcadero, these are our forecast headlines overnight. and tomorrow we'll see showers and rain expanding as we get later into the early morning hours tuesday. just some light rain and showers may linger and get ready for some clearing that begins on wednesday and continues into the weekend, which means a sunnier and drier thanksgiving. but for the approaching storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale, we rank it level one. a light level one storm overnight, and tomorrow we'll see periods of rain and showers with breaks here and there. wet roads for the morning commute likely. wet roads for the evening commute as well. winds will generally be out of the south southeast at 5 to 15mph. and here's the forecast animation starting at midnight. notice that wave of showers coming down from the northwest pushing through the north bay, but by the time the morning commute begins, we'll also see showers and pockets of rain moving up from the

south. so they'll meet in the middle here, and all portions of the bay area will get some wet weather from this system. looks like it's going to be a wet morning commute. just about everywhere. and even as the showers break up going into the afternoon hours, we'll be left with some wet roadways for the evening commute. but the system should be spent by about 9:00 tomorrow night. rainfall totals will be generally under 2/10 of an inch, about a quarter of an inch, though at san jose and nearly a half inch at ben lomond. over in the sierra. winter storm warning in effect from 1 p.m. tomorrow to 4 a.m. wednesday. generally, 1 to 2ft of snow above 7000ft. lower amounts in the at lake level and lower elevations. excuse me. overnight lows mainly in the mid 40s to about 50 degrees. highs tomorrow, generally in the upper 50s. it's going to be cool. not many locations will hit 60 degrees tomorrow. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast notice two days in a row tomorrow and tuesday. level one light. level one storms and showers on tuesday may end early in the

day. we may actually see some sunlight in the afternoon hours on tuesday because wednesday is likely to be a sunny day. yay! and then on thursday, it'll be dry for thanksgiving. not very mild, though. it's going to be a cool day with high temperatures only in the upper 50s, but it gets a little bit milder each day as we get into the weekend, and by sunday we expect to see high temperatures back in the mid 60s. but basically, i think we'll all celebrate the drier pattern coming our way after all the rain we've had lately. and two more days of rain to come. >> yes, and i know we've said it many times, but truly this is something to be thankful for. >> it really is. we need the rain. we don't need the flooding and all the impacts of the rain. we need the rain. and so let's let's be joyful. >> yes, i like that train of thought. yeah. well, coming up, this fish flopping around is a sign of hope for one bay area creek with volunteers. hard work paying off.

south bay chinook salmon have returned to los gatos creek in campbell. this year's annual spawning is shaping up to be an impressive one. the south bay clean creeks coalition tells us they're already seeing more salmon than usual. the group of volunteers has spent more than a decade picking up trash from santa clara county's creeks and rivers, trying to give the fish a clean place to swim. they're hosting some salmon watch events on the weekends and a town hall tomorrow to share more about their work with the community. well, after last week's loss to seattle in the final seconds, the 40 niners looking to rebound on the road in green bay. chris alvarez joins me now with a preview of sports. hi, chris. >> hi, dion. coming up in sports, the final weekend of football before thanksgiving. and the 40 niners, they were hungry for a win. but shorthanded and sent home packing in green bay. sports is next

>> oh my gosh, i was relieved. >> we told you about tovah ridgway, who tried for months to recover her stolen facebook account. she even marched down to meta headquarters in menlo park demanding help. nothing worked until she paid 14.99 for one month of meta verified within a day, a live agent on chat restored her account. >> i was able to get all my memories back, my memories of my kid, me and my husband. >> she got help. i was like, what the heck? how come it didn't help in my situation? >> daniel gomez lost his facebook account back in august and he couldn't get it back either. >> i lost all my photo albums with family. a lot of important stuff was on there. >> facebook's automated help pages kept sending him in circles, so he paid $14.99 for one month of meta verified. but his case wasn't so simple. >> i'm here to tell you meta verified does not always work. >> hackers had used daniel's facebook profile to set up a fake instagram account. meta suspended the fake account and daniel's facebook too. after

nearly two dozen live chats with meta verified he still got the same error message. so he paid for a second month. then a third. >> maybe my issue is too complicated, but it definitely didn't work for me. after multiple attempts, he points to the latest chat where an agent typed, hi danny, thank you for contacting the meta pro team. >> may i confirm you are calling about bullying? >> i don't think they understood what happened. >> daniel replied. no not bullying. my facebook account was hacked and suspended. the agent typed, thank you for confirming your phone number and bringing this concern to our attention. we duly understand how important this is for you. >> it feels like you're talking to a robot. it doesn't feel human at all. it doesn't feel like a human interaction. >> was he chatting with a bot or a human? he wasn't sure. but the next message said the best way to submit an appeal for your account being hacked is at facebook.com. >> here's a link. try to do it yourself. pretty much. i'm paying money to not get help at all.

right. here's a look at the bittersweet that's coming. our way on the next storm is a level one on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale overnight tonight and tomorrow. we expect periods of rain showers, wet roads for the morning commute, perhaps for the evening commute as well. here's the forecast animation showing showers moving down from the north and a wider body of rain moving up from the south. the two will sort of merge almost just as the morning commute begins, so it's going to be a wet morning commute, and all parts of the bay area will get some rainfall out of the system. although it's not expected to produce heavy rain or very impressive totals, it will produce more snow over in the sierra. by the way, so overnight we'll expect overnight lows, mainly in the upper. oops, that was highs for tomorrow. well, i skipped over the lows. they'll be in the mid 40s to about 50. highs tomorrow. upper 50s for the most part. very few locations will hit 60 degrees tomorrow and on tuesday we expect more showers lingering into the morning and midday hours. then the sunshine returns on wednesday. we expect dry and pleasant conditions on thursday, thanksgiving day,
