offers a silver lining. >> the thanksgiving travel rush getting underway with millions of americans on the move. if you're leaving today, there are definitely key times you want to know about, plus, what you need to know if you're heading to the airport and a live look outside a level one storm moving across the bay to start the week. >> and if you are working today, the commute will be wet. drew is tracking the timing of the storm, and he's got the thanksgiving day forecast. >> good morning. it is monday, november 25th and it is raining again. >> it is raining again. yes, raindrops. >> and thankfully like we don't have the flood risk today like we had last week. the showers are mainly light in nature and it's just leading to slower travel times this morning. so here's a look at live doppler seven. right now it is showing you for the most part we have mainly light rain and the storm has moved in from the south. so for much of the morning it has been raining in the south bay. the peninsula, the east bay. just now we're starting to see some rain move into parts of the north bay, where they certainly don't need any more rain. after last week, we're tracking this downpour, just moving out of the

city now, pushing into parts of the east bay. so berkeley on its way into el cerrito and richmond, a brief downpour. right now the biggest issue is going to be just some standing water on our roads this morning. live doppler seven showing you the bulk of the moisture with this next round of rain is to our south. that is where the flood risk will lie along the central coast. we don't have any risk of flooding here locally today, so it is a level one for scattered showers, isolated downpours with the best chance of steady rain this morning. so here's future weather going hour by hour this morning. we'll track those scattered light showers continuing into the early afternoon. it looks like we'll get a bit of a break as we head later into the day, but tomorrow we still have some showers to contend with before a drier pattern finally sets in. we'll show you that coming up in eight minutes. let's check in with sue. see those drive times? >> all right. we're headed over to walnut creek to take a look outside. and so far, not a heavy rain here at all. you can see those taillights heading southbound on 680 towards 24. and you're looking at a pretty good clip all the way. 24 to the tunnel. the caldecott moving nicely. so we have problems here

on the peninsula. this is south 101 near lawrence expressway that purple is never good. that means a very, very slow even stop traffic. we had the center lanes blocked. so it looks like they're in the process of trying to clear that out. in the meantime, they've made a traffic break to slow things down. >> thank you so much, sue. americans are expected to set a new travel record this week, so if you're one of the nearly 80 million people traveling for thanksgiving, you'll no doubt be keeping an eye on that forecast. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez at sfo this morning. with what you need to know before you hit the road or go to the airport. >> airport officials are warning passengers to prepare for long lines at airports starting today. that's definitely what i'm seeing at sfo this morning. you can see all the people behind me tomorrow. some 50,000 flights are expected to take off. the faa opening special airspace used by the military off the east coast and gulf of mexico. american delta and united say this will be their busiest season ever. united even

adding 400 flights per day to handle the demand. this while the faa grapples with an air traffic controller shortage impacting operations across the northeast. >> we will use traffic flow management initiatives to deal with any staffing shortages on that particular day in this airspace, and we expect to have some of those shortages. >> and if you're one of the millions of americans driving to your thanksgiving destination today, it's best to get on the road before 11 a.m. worst time to drive is between 1 and 5 p.m. tomorrow. get on the road before 10 a.m. worst time to travel is between one and 7 p.m. this is a board that shows the flights here at sfo. i've been tracking flights this morning. quite a few are on time, but i have seen at least 45 that have been delayed in and out of sfo so far this morning at sfo. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. gloria, thank you. >> and if you're heading to the lake tahoe area for the holiday. a winter storm warning is now in

effect until 4:00 wednesday morning. this is a live look at the area of i-80 at castle peak. and as you can see, stretches of the freeway are wet, but mostly clear of snow, at least through the main thoroughfare. overnight, there were no chain restrictions on i-80 or highway 50, but that, of course, can change quickly. the national weather service is warning that more snow is coming, and that could make driving difficult to impossible over the next couple of days. >> despite the stormy weather, plenty of people will be heading to tahoe this week for thanksgiving. the sports basement at san francisco's marina district tells abc seven. business has been up the past few days, with people coming in to buy some equipment. if you're braving the snow and the icy roads, make sure to make to get yourself prepared for a treacherous drive. >> have your chains, your chain tensioners. make sure put them on your tires and make sure that they actually are fitted correctly. >> yeah, good tips. you also want to bring an emergency kit with warm clothes, blankets, gloves, a flashlight, food and water. of course, if you do this routinely, you know the drill.

this week as many 80 million americans are expected to travel for the thanksgiving holiday, so triple a says the roadways will be extremely congested. >> if you're traveling for thanksgiving, make sure to have the abc seven bay area app on your phone. you can look at the same live doppler seven. drew and the rest of our weather team uses. we'll also be sending alerts with breaking news when it happens, including updates on the roads and the airports. the app is free. >> we're still working to learn more about the deaths of two people during our stormy weathe. one died saturday morning after trying to drive through a flooded road in guerneville in santa rosa. the body of another man was recovered in piner creek, which was swollen with high water. the national weather service says santa rosa received 13.2in of rain from wednesday to saturday alone. in placer county, the search is on for two men who were swept away in the american river saturday night. it happened south of auburn. the sheriff's office says three men went to the area to fish. two of them got into the water. one of

them was swept away, and then the second was pulled in by the current when he tried to help. both men were in their 20s. first responders searched the area, but so far have not found them. for months now, we've been following the story of a san francisco church devastated by fire. and this morning we're getting an update on its efforts to reopen in time for christmas, and how it's continued to serve the community. the fire tore through saint john, the evangelist episcopal church in the mission district back in march. the suspected arsonist forced the congregation to worship outside before the fire. the church also provided shelter for unhoused people thanks to donations from the community, they were able to create a temporary shelter. >> you know, you have to you have to make a win out of every tragedy. and the church getting burned was was really scary for us. and the community as a whole. but the ability to sort of clean up the space and make it make it more hospitable has been a big effort. >> the church has a couple more weeks of repairs, with its

sights set on christmas eve for reopening. >> 607 looking at live doppler. seven it is showing you we do have another rainy morning here, but unlike last week, this is not an atmospheric river. it's not going to stall. it's not going to linger. it's not going to bring flooding. what it will bring this morning is some slower travel times and some standing water on our roads. for the most part, you're noticing it's just mainly light rain with a couple of isolated downpours mixed in as well. so it is a level one storm today for scattered showers, isolated downpours. the best chance of finding rain is this morning before noon. the afternoon. the showers are more widely scattered in nature. winds are not an issue like they were last week. pretty light less than 20mph. so here's future weather going hour by hour. scattered showers continue this morning, tapering a bit later on this afternoon. this evening. tomorrow morning we'll have some light rain to deal with once again. and then this system is finally on the move. we should

you track the rain during your monday morning commute? here is a live look outside here at the bay bridge toll plaza. i can't exactly tell from our. and in san rafael, actually, you see the raindrops on our lens. drew is tracking a level one storm on all of your full forecast. coming up in an interview, you'll see only on seven. >> the man at the center of the controversy around san mateo county sheriff christina corpus, is telling his side of the story. the sheriff's civilian chief of staff, victor angel, says the scathing report against the sheriff and her

administration is built on lies, including their alleged romantic relationship. the report concluded that i and j had major influence over sheriff corpus, and that he bought her expensive gifts, including $11,000 diamond earrings. he says that's not true, and says supporters of the old sheriff are telling lies to bring her down and stop the change that she's bringing to the department, to the department. >> let's talk about those 40 people that judge cordell interviewed. are you saying that most of those are supporters of the former sheriff bolanos? absolutely. >> i'm saying that uh- and a few of them are just scared for their job, because if you don't kiss the ring in this county, they will push you out. >> i and j and corpus are facing calls to resign, and they are both refusing to step down. you can watch more of our interview with i and j on our website, abc7 news.com. eight suspects, including children, have been arrested in connection to an organized retail crime spree. they're accused of targeting

walgreens stores around san francisco. police say the group includes kids as young as 12. they're accused of stealing more than $84,000 in merchandise in at least 23 thefts, starting in july. the investigation started after a violent robbery at the potrero avenue, walgreens. the suspects face charges ranging from assault and robbery to organized retail theft and grand theft. they are all bay area residents. >> raw milk sold in bay area stores as being pulled from shelves this morning after testing positive for bird flu. raw farm of fresno county is recalling a batch of cream top whole raw milk. it has a best by date of november 27th. the county of santa clara public health lab has been testing this milk for bird flu during the growing outbreak, and caught this bad batch. the state department of public health says thankfully, no one has gotten sick from drinking the milk, but health experts do say pasteurized milk remains safe to drink. but it's just best to avoid raw dairy. bird flu is

also having an impact on grocery store bills. the cost of eggs went up more than 30% in october compared to last year. that's according to the consumer price index. prices are expected to go even higher, especially as the holiday season brings more demand. the nationwide supply has been impacted since 2022, and bird flu cases started to spike again last month, taking out 2.8 million egg laying birds across three states. that's a projected loss of about 60 million eggs. defying gravity. >> and you can pull me down. >> you can say wicked came out singing for its opening weekend. gladiator also hit theaters over the weekend, sparking yet another box office pairing. they're calling it glick and internationally, gladiator just barely outperformed wicked, but domestically, wicked more than doubled gladiators predicted sales. >> remember when they did barbenheimer? >> i do what people are saying,

less than a half of an inch of rain coming our way. the bigger picture, showing you the bulk of the moisture is to our south. that is where the flood risk will lie along the central coast today and tomorrow. so the flood risk today don't have one here locally. you may find some standing water on our roads, but that's about it. our streams, our creeks, our rivers will be just fine where the risk is, is to our south around santa barbara. that is where the heaviest rain is going to fall today and tomorrow. so a level one today. scattered showers, some isolated downpours. the best chance for steady rain is now through about noon later on today. those showers taper to more scattered in nature, so let's show you the wider picture. you may be traveling over the next couple of days across california, heading south. today you do encounter those heavier showers once you hit la. things are pretty quiet today. now tomorrow it is going to be a similar story. the heaviest rain focused along the central coast for us here locally will likely have an early morning shower leading to drier skies in the afternoon. snow is still falling in the sierra. again, that winter storm

warning until wednesday evening. heading into tuesday evening into wednesday, things start to quiet down. so your best travel day across california is going to be wednesday. it's sunny. we are dry and it should be easy to get to where you're going. midweek rainfall total here. locally not a lot of rain. we're not talking inches of rain on this map for the most part. this morning we'll find less than a half of an inch of rain moving through our region. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast the next seven days. few scattered showers today. the best chance of shower is tomorrow morning. tomorrow afternoon we start to dry out. then wednesday is a great travel day across california. sunshine is back and that leads to a dry holiday here on thursday for thanksgiving. a mix of sun and clouds on friday, but we'll keep it dry through the upcoming weekend. saturday and sunday it's mild and sunny with temperatures in the 60s, guys. >> thanks, drew. now let's turn to ginger zee. she's live with a look at what's coming up on gma.

during your monday morning commute. here's what it looks like outside at 624 this morning. it is going to be wet, but certainly not as wet as what we saw last week. this is a level one storm on our storm impact scale. new at six a health alert about vaping. new research has found vaping has an immediate effect on your lung health. even if the e-cigarette doesn't contain nicotine. the research was presented at the annual meeting of the radiological society of north america. it showed even though vapes don't contain the same cancer causing chemicals found in regular cigarettes, they still contain dangerous or chemicals that can be dangerous. researchers also found that each time someone vapes, they had a decrease in blood oxygen levels. scientists say these results may mean that vaping regularly could lead to vascular disease down the road. this week, the city of

napa plans to begin installing the first of four red light cameras meant to make roads safer. on friday, they will start installing these cameras at lincoln and soscol avenues. three more intersections are slated to be installed by mid next year. once the cameras are up, the city will issue warnings for 30 days, and after that they'll give out citations. it's the week of thanksgiving, but already people are, of course, looking straight ahead to christmas at the cow palace in san francisco. the 40th ruby jubilee celebration of the great dickens christmas fair kicked off. attendees joined into a fictional realm of performances, interactions, foods and trinket. >> every single year, it gets more and more detailed and more and more rich in terms of the beauty of it and the opportunity for people to really lose themselves in the experience. it's like time travel. you're coming into a version of victorian london that is brought to life by the actors that bring the stories of charles dickens to life, and then there are all of these shops surrounding you.

south. live doppler seven showing you the central coast is where we're going to see the heaviest rain. not here. locally level one today for scattered showers and isolated downpours. winds are not an issue. the winds will remain pretty light today, so here's future weather. steadiest rain likely falling before noon today into the afternoon. the showers are more scattered in nature. daytime highs mainly in the mid 50s to the low 60s. let's check in with sue. see how those roads are doing this morning. >> good morning drew. yeah we've got wet roads out there, some slick conditions. you can see the bay bridge toll plaza. rain on the lens and metering lights were turned on about an hour ago. and you're stacked up now beyond the overcrossing toward the macarthur maze. the red, obviously slow traffic. so let's take a look at some of our problem spots. we had an earlier overturn that for a time, had all lanes blocked. that's been cleared. this is south 101 san jose near the lawrence expressway, but still some slow traffic backing towards 237.

northbound 880 near whipple. we had an accident southbound on scene. some slow traffic. that northbound accident was cleared. you will find the brakes starting brake lights starting at about just past highway 92, south on 880 and about an hour up and over the altamont pass for your drive. it is sort of wet just now, getting the rain on the altamont. be aware of your speeds here as well. >> thanks, sue. in the north bay, residents and businesses on the russian river are still cleaning up and drying off after last week's atmospheric river brought devastating flooding. the surrey resort in guerneville is dealing with the aftermath of more than three feet of flood water. furnishings and appliances were floating and there was even more water in the parking lot. the manager says they lost 80% of their items in the bar and employees say they simply cannot believe the damage. >> it was very heartbreaking. i am still recovering in a little shock. this is my first experience with a flood in the area and well, it's a learning

experience too. next time we will be more prepared and then our beautiful pool, the largest pool in guerneville and now the dirtiest. >> wow. yeah. the resort's staff says they plan to partially reopen in about three weeks, as flooding remains a very real issue. as you can see across the area, the sonoma county fire district is reminding drivers to stay off closed roads. >> all that snow is starting to pile up in the sierra. so here's new video shared by palisades tahoe. officials there say they've received 23in of fresh powder over the past seven days, including 12in since friday. snowmaking teams are using the cold temperatures to continue to add to their snow base. more snow is expected to start falling tonight and this morning millions of americans are getting ready to head out for thanksgiving. this is expected to be a record breaking year for travel, so whether you're going to the airport or driving somewhere, here's something you need to know. from abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez,

we're talking rainfall less than a half of an inch, but it will lead to slower travel times this morning. speaking of travel live, look at sfo this morning, the latest from the faa. inbound flights are now being delayed about two hours into san francisco so that could have kind of a domino effect later on this morning and into the afternoon as the inbound aircraft are delayed elsewhere across california. we have no issues when it comes to our airports. so sfo right now is dealing with the weather. level one today with scattered showers. isolated downpours. winds are not an issue. they're pretty light today. less than 20mph. so future weather, we'll track those scattered showers throughout the morning. they taper just a little bit later on this afternoon. and this evening. tomorrow morning we'll track another round of rain. and then tomorrow afternoon this system is out of here. and we are drying out. so rainfall estimates again. we're not talking any sort of flooding, just maybe some ponding on our roadways. you can see rainfall less than a quarter of an inch in most spots. winter storm warning is in effect for the sierra until 4 a.m. tomorrow or 4 a.m. wednesday. rather, 1 to

the governor announcing that the state will replace a federal electric vehicle tax rebate if president elect trump's new administration were to end it. the federal government offers a $7,500 tax credit for buying certain electric vehicles. trump is considering rolling that back. governor newsom now says that california would restart its state tax credit system that ended in 2023. the governor is trying to get all new vehicle sales to be electric by 2035. >> new at six. an investigation is underway into a deadly plane crash at an airport in lithuania overnight. the dhl cargo plane went down as it was landing, crashing into a home. one person on the plane died. at least two others were taken to the hospital. and thankfully, no one on the ground was injured. but the plane was traveling all the way from germany. the cause of the crash is still under investigation. >> happening today, what could be a critical hearing in the menendez brothers bid for freedom? erik and lyle menendez are set to appear in court

virtually for a hearing where a judge could decide whether new evidence warrants a reexamination of their convictions. that evidence is related to the brothers claims they were sexually abused by their father before they murdered their parents in 1989. today's hearing is in response to a petition filed by their lawyers last year, december 11th. a judge is set to consider the request from la county's outgoing da to resentence the brothers. however, that hearing is likely to be delayed so the new da has more time to review the case. >> a horse on the peninsula is resting easy this morning after being rescued from a mud pit. it happened yesterday in woodside. take a look at this video. an equine rescue team and fire crews used straps and a tractor to help the tired, weakened horse get out of the mud. >> we were able to successfully use the tractor to gently lift that horse and allow it to get on its four legs, which it did pretty quickly. and then again, give it some time to recover and ultimately the rescue operation

was successful. >> the horse was able to walk away on its own after that rescue. and another unusual rescue in san francisco. animal care and control officers are now caring for a barn owl that was stuck in a flower pot. this was at a home in laurel heights on saturday. officers say the owl was soaked and tired when it arrived, and this morning it's now recovering in a shelter. >> now it's your morning money report. there are new regulations coming to popular digital payment apps like apple pay, venmo and cash app. the new government rule will require apps handling over $50 million in transactions per year to follow. stricter privacy and fraud protection laws. this is the same scrutiny that banks face. federal officials say the rule will help to protect consumer privacy and you should know if you have a hyundai or kia that they're recalling over 200,000 electric vehicles. the recalls for a transistor that can be damaged and stop charging
