44, with larry and sandy joining us. you know, the great california exodus appears to be over. a new report by the national association of realtors found that california is the second most popular state for americans to move into. the price of housing of course, still a big concern, but those who moved to the golden state say they want to be closer to friends and family and enjoy california's scenery, culture and climate. so, you know, what was that? reports of our death demise was greatly exaggerated. what do you guys think? >> bill shakespeare? yeah. >> i mean, people were always going to come back, right? we have so many natural advantages going for us, including our beautiful scenery and weather. well, not today, not not. well, yeah, but we are weather. >> kristen is really mild in comparison to other parts of the world, obviously other parts of the country. we have a mild mediterranean climate. so you can see why there's a draw. yeah, yeah. >> but i can also see why we drove people away for a while because it has gotten so expensive. and for, you know,

it's been tough for a lot of people shocking that the meteorologist would discuss the weather in such glowing terms. >> well, i'm not talking about the atmospheric river from last week. >> larry, i'm wondering how many of those people took off so that they could work from home in other cities, and now they have to come back because the companies are deciding. you got to come back to the office at least a few days a week. so i don't know if that's driving it, but it seems like everybody's moving to austin or nashville or someplace like that. >> yeah, i just talked to somebody today from nashville, and the cost is, you know, a big factor why he moved there. yeah. well, black friday and cyber monday are almost here, but the deals have already begun. abc news reporter zohreen shah has tips to help you navigate the sales. >> black friday and cyber monday are more like a whole week of deals these days. >> some of the deals will be valid just on black friday through cyber monday, but then you'll also see other deals kind of popping up throughout that week. >> if you plan to make holiday

purchases while the sales are happening, smart shopping expert trae bodge has some tips, starting with whether to shop in store or online, because retailers are trying to draw consumers into the store, you may find that there are exclusive special items in those stores. >> you know, target is one of them. if they are selling, you know, an exclusive item from taylor swift, you might want to be there in person so you can grab it before someone else does. >> bodge says you'll find deals across all categories, but you can focus on those that are expected to have the deepest discounts. >> this is one of the best times of the year to buy tech and i am seeing discounts anywhere from 20 to 50% off. those deeper discounts tend to be on a previous generation of an item. however, that previous generation may have all the bells and whistles that you want, so don't turn your nose up on those.don't turn your nose up >> she adds that small home appliances will be about 40% off, and beauty products will be about 25% off on average. you may be able to save even more by checking deal sites for extra coupons, signing up for loyalty

programs, and taking advantage of cash back on debit and credit cards. >> i would also say if you see a discount on black friday, it's not as deep as you hoped. i think you could hold out until cyber monday unless it's like a special exclusive item. >> and keep in mind sometimes retailers will price match if a price drops after you've made your purchase. zohreen shah, abc news, los angeles. >> so the question is, are you motivated by these sales? i always steal the line every year from rhoda, from the mary tyler moore show. i hate all the holiday shopping, all the pushing and the shoving. hope i don't hurt anybody. sandy, do you get motivated by sales around this time of year? you know what? >> i do, but dan, it's not even the sales. i mean, it's the tradition that i have carried for years and years and years. so it's a lot of fun just to get out there. i love the chaos. i love the craziness. i go with my oldest daughter who really gets into it as well, and we just, you know, get out. >> and i actually love the hustle bustle of it. larry, i know you're notoriously not a stuff guy, but around christmas, do you do you do much shopping
4:44 pm
or do you like being out to shop like it's like like we've never met. >> yeah, of course i know. >> the answer is no. no, you're not into it at all. >> no, i don't like to shop to begin with. i can't even remember the last time i've been to a mall. but the thing that cracks me up is that, you know, whether it's email or whatever it is, it's everything the most gigantic, biggest blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. and then the next week it's an even bigger, most gigantic, i mean, i don't even know what to believe anymore. so i'm not motivated. like, i got to get it on friday because because the price is if they don't move the inventory, the price is going to get lower, not higher. >> you're not fooled by this at all. >> so yeah, you're not going to get me down there. >> all right. christmas is exactly one month from today. those of you you know, needing to buy your presents. so if you want to get into the holiday spirit, there are lots of places to ring in the season. and one of those places is the filoli historic house. and garden. the san mateo county estate is all lit up now, both inside the massive home and all 16 acres of
