this week of some showers and then after today, the forecast is looking a lot brighter and a lot drier. but this morning we are tracking some scattered showers out there, mainly in parts of the north bay. and across the city. so want to zoom on down into southern marin county. have this line of showers working through novato into san rafael, about to arrive into mill valley in about ten minutes. it will hit sausalito tiburon as well. some lighter showers falling in the east bay around oakland. alameda. a similar story across parts of the city, but the heaviest rain is well to our south. here's live doppler seven, along with satellite. it's the central coast and the central valley that's getting hit hardest this morning with heavy rain. we're just on the northern edge of this rain, and that's why the showers are so light and scattered in nature. so this morning, it's a level one with the best chance of any showers before noon. we'll start to dry out this afternoon, so future weather, here's 930. we'll still track some scattered showers out there, and then we're pretty much done by about 1 or 2:00 pm. then later on tonight, we'll clear the cloud cover out for

sunny skies tomorrow. that's a look at the forecast. let's check in with sue and see how things go. >> good morning drew. good morning everyone. we have the bay bridge metering lights on at about 526 this morning. minor delays. we had an earlier accident on the span that one has been cleared, but heavy traffic coming in, especially on the western portion of the span into san francisco. you can see spots of rain that's always going to gum up your commute. there's a look at your bay bridge commute, that earlier accident just as you're coming into the city, has been pushed off the bridge, but the rain is probably the cause here. let's head over towards walnut creek on highway 24. actually, this is fish ranch road, so it's towards orinda accident blocking two right lanes. and then in the eastbound direction, we've got a sigalert with an accident blocking a couple of lanes headed through lafayette. >> thanks, sue. this morning, the faa is warning of weather delays as millions of americans get ready to head out for their thanksgiving holiday. 50,000 flights are scheduled to take off across the country today.

take a look at this map. all the planes in the skies right now as we speak and it's going to be just as busy on the roads. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is live at sfo with what you can expect if you're traveling today. good morning gloria. reporter. >> good morning stephanie. yeah. you know, the weather has really improved here at sfo this morning compared to yesterday. you know, yesterday was raining quite a bit. there was some wind as a result of the better weather. today we're seeing less delays. this morning there were hundreds of flights that were delayed out of sfo this weekend. and today so far we're just seeing about 41 flights that have been delayed. only one cancellation so far, more than 18 million people are expected to pass through u.s. airports this week. that's about 6% more than last thanksgiving, and the tsa says its airport staffing is higher than ever for the holiday travel rush. united airlines is adding a reported 400 extra flights per day. american and delta are also adjusting for more travelers. the faa plans to

open up typically closed airspace. >> we will use traffic flow management initiatives to deal with any staffing shortages on that particular day. in this airspace, and we expect to have some of those shortages. >> sfo expects just over 6 million people to go through the airport. thanksgiving to new year. that's up 15% over last year, but it's still about 97% of what they saw in 2019. so not quite back at pre-pandemic levels just yet. and if you are driving today, it is best to get on the road before 10 a.m. to avoid traffic. it will be busiest between 1 and 7 p.m. and tomorrow will not be any better because triple a is saying it's going to be one of the busiest days on the roads. live at sfo gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. and if you're traveling for thanksgiving, be sure to have the abc seven bay area app on your phone so you can see the same live doppler

seven, drew and the rest of our weather team use. we'll also send breaking news alerts when it happens, including updates on the roads and the airports. >> new developments out of placer county, search and rescue crews recovered the bodies of two men who were swept away in the american river over the weekend. the sheriff's office says three men went to the area to fish on saturday, two of them got into the water. one of them was swept away. the second was pulled in by the current when he tried to help. >> they were located in a difficult to reach area with very fast moving water, but we were able to put together a pulley system that would hold the rescue boats steady. and throughout that process, both bodies were were able to be pulled from the american river. >> both men were only in their 20s. they have not been identified. officials say neither of the men was wearing a life jacket. >> the man suspected in a deadly stabbing in san francisco is now in custody. san francisco police say they arrested the 36 year

old on sunday. he was picked up by bart police, who took him to san francisco general. it's not clear why he needed to be hospitalized. the murder happened almost two weeks ago now at market and main streets before dawn. the victim was stabbed near the embarcadero bart station and died on market street. the investigation is ongoing. >> new developments in the controversy brewing with san mateo county sheriff. san carlos became the first city to call on sheriff christina corpus to resign over misconduct allegations. it's one of several communities patrolled by san mateo county deputies. abc seven news reporter tim johns was there for last night's vote of no confidence. reporter. >> yes. vice mayor mcdowell. yes. council member. collins. yes. council member. venkatesh. yes. >> with unanimous support, the san carlos city council voting monday night for a motion of no confidence in san mateo county sheriff christina corpus. and calling on her to resign. the council's vote follows the release of an explosive report by an independent investigator. that report says the sheriff has abused her power while in office, had an inappropriate relationship with her chief of staff and sent out racist and

homophobic text messages. >> judge cordell's report speaks for itself, and it represents nothing less than a failure of leadership. >> since the report emerged, corpus has denied the allegations against her and vowed not to step down while the county's board of supervisors can't remove her. they are exploring adopting a charter amendment early next year. that amendment would ask voters to give the board the power to fire the sheriff. >> she's clearly lost the confidence of her organization, and most of the leaders in this community. and yes, if she requires us to go through this entire process and spend the money required, that is a selfish act. >> san carlos is the first city in san mateo county to formally call on corpus to step down. the sheriff says she believes she's being unjustly attacked because she's trying to bring change to her department. the president of the deputies union, who was recently arrested by his own department, also attended monday's vote. >> she's taken away from the real victims, right? people that it's almost like she's crying wolf. right? and for the people

that do go through something that's serious is that there's no validity to what she's to her statements that she's saying, that it's because she's a female. it's because she's a latina. >> san carlos has relied on the sheriff's office for law enforcement services in the city since 2011. and despite monday's vote, city leaders want to reassure local residents that public safety will not be affected. >> this is a very healthy relationship, but for the sheriff's current predicament, many of the sheriff's critics say they hope other cities in the county follow san carlos lead and call on corpus to resign. >> whether or not that happens remains to be seen. i'm in san carlos. tim johns, abc seven news. >> thank you. tim. new this morning. millions of americans may soon have access to popular weight loss drugs like ozempic and wegovy through medicare and medicaid. this morning, the biden administration proposed a new rule to cover semaglutide drugs to treat obesity. currently, medicare and medicaid only cover those drugs to treat

certain conditions like diabetes. the proposal would not be finalized until after donald trump takes office. >> 609 in the accuweather forecast on your tuesday. live look outside the exploratorium camera. it is cloudy across the city today, and overcast skies for most of us, and you can see the morning planner will keep that cloud cover all morning long and that low chance of a light shower in your neighborhood. about 10% chance throughout the morning. the showers are pretty much done by noon, but we'll hang on to the clouds all day today. here's live doppler seven. some light showers falling in parts of marin and sonoma county. some lighter showers exiting the city. crossing the bay bridge into the east bay, but for the most part, the heaviest and steadiest rain is well to our south near monterey and fresno. and that is where the heaviest rain will remain all day. snow is falling around tahoe. we have chain controls on both 80 and 50. this morning. winter storm warning continues through tomorrow. an additional 4 to 6in

back in the bay area for the first time since her election loss. this is video of air force two landing at sfo in rainy conditions earlier yesterday. harris and the second gentleman, doug emhoff, flew here following a vacation to hawaii. the reason for their visit is unclear. meanwhile, president elect donald trump says he plans to issue executive orders imposing new tariffs on all imported goods from china, mexico and canada. those countries are the united states's three largest trading partners. trump is

proposing the tariffs of 25% on mexican and canadian goods and 10% on chinese merchandise. he says the goal is to stop what he calls an invasion of drugs and migrants into the u.s. and this morning, walmart is rolling back its diversity, equity and inclusion policies, also known as dei. the nation's largest private employer, joining other major corporations in revising or eliminating dei programs under pressure from a conservative activist. the changes are sweeping to. so to walk you through it, they include everything from ending racial equity training for staff to pulling out of the human rights campaign's index ranking on how friendly companies are for lgbtq plus people. walmart will also stop giving priority treatment to suppliers based on race or gender. the company says these changes have been in the works for a while, but also admitted it has had conversations with anti dei advocate robby starbuck. >> companies need to listen to our movement. we are powerful

and growing every single day. we will not stop until we have eliminated wokeness in corporate america. >> walmart says it will also review its funding to pride events, lgbtq advocacy group gladd issued a statement saying in part, quote, we cannot let fear infringe anti lgbtq activists, dilute the work that has been done in the name of visibility, acceptance and opportunity. >> a big software problem for starbucks. a ransomware attack on one of its suppliers is affecting software that handles scheduling and pay for baristas. starbucks says customer service has not been impacted. the company is promising to make sure that all workers are paid properly. if you're working this week, your outlook and team software should be back to normal today. crossing fingers microsoft says it has fixed a problem that took those programs offline for a good portion of the day yesterday. the company says a recent change was likely responsible for the outage, but didn't give any other details. >> and a heads up if you're hoping to take a cable car ride

light showers working through the north bay, a couple of light showers through the city, and the east bay. the heaviest rain is well to our south south of gilroy this morning along the central coast and in the central valley. fresno getting hit hard by some heavy rain. right now, temperatures were mainly starting out in the 50s, and later on today will be in the upper 50s to the lower 60s. on the abc seven storm impact scale. it is a level one this morning for scattered showers, mainly before noon after lunchtime. the showers are pretty much over, but we'll keep the cloud cover overhead all da. looking at the day planner, best chance for those showers right now through noon and then by 4 p.m. it's dry, but it is cloudy out there and temperatures in the 50s and in the 60s. skies will start to clear overnight tonight. so cloudy today. some morning showers 58 in the city, 60 in oakland, 62 in san jose, about 57 in napa, 59. that high in antioch. we do have a beach hazard statement starting late tonight through thanksgiving for the risk of sneaker waves and rip currents could have waves as high as 14ft throughout the day tomorrow. and thanksgiving.

a person, work officials tell sfgate. the top reason for the big increase the new modern trains and faster, more frequent service. the new trains feature onboard wi-fi and tables for working while you ride. since last year, ridership has increased over 50% and ridership on the weekends had a gain of nearly 170% on saturdays and 140% on sundays. despite recent gains, caltrain is still anticipating a massive fiscal deficit. but officials at least see the growth as a good sign. next, at 630, raising rates. p-g-and-e's once again asking for another increase to

car that is through tonight due to some road work. all right, let's take a look at 880 by the coliseum. a little bit of wet here. a little bit of rain coming down, but no delays on the roadway. and you can see we had an earlier accident on the bay bridge. very, very slow. still a sigalert eastbound 24. the reverse commute 24. in lafayette. >> thanks, sue. today, the thanksgiving travel rush is kicking into high gear at the airport and on the roads. millions of people expected to be traveling today and tomorrow. and depending on where you're going, weather could be a factor. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is live at sfo, where we've seen a lot of delays over the past week. but as you can see, gloria is not standing with the rain jacket and that's good news. >> that's always a good thing. yeah, i was here yesterday morning. it was raining pretty much all morning long yesterday. today it's just been kind of drizzling a little bit. not too bad out here. and so that definitely is improving the

delays today. we're only seeing about 40 or so delays this morning compared to the hundreds that we saw over the weekend. and yesterday. and that's because we're not seeing the amount of rain that we saw the past few days or the wind. so that's really helped out the on time performance of flights today. now, triple a is predicting that nearly 72 million people will be traveling by car over thanksgiving. and that's a record. it's also an additional 1.3 million people compared to last year for the first time. triple a's forecast includes today, the tuesday before thanksgiving, and also the monday after. historically, it only looked at wednesday through sunday. john trainer of triple a says remote work has made it possible for more people to travel earlier, or even just taking more time off. >> but this is record travel. after last year's record travel, right? last year we had more people than pre-pandemic numbers. this year we're have more people than pre-pandemic numbers by a larger margin. so people are really motivated to get out and get out and travel.

that might be part of getting out, of getting tradition. that might be part flexibility and work to make those trips happen. that might be good deals to be had. more people are booking earlier, so they're planning these trips really thoughtfully. >> and if you're one of the nearly 72 million people driving today, it is the best time to get on the road before 10 a.m. so you can avoid a lot of traffic. the worst time to travel is between 1 and 7 p.m, and your trip along eastbound i-80 from san francisco to sacramento is going to see peak congestion at 730 tonight. triple a anticipates that drive could take you a little more than three hours. that measurement to sacramento is new this year. triple a says it could be because people have moved outside of the bay area and of course, tomorrow is going to be very busy on the roads. so if you are driving for the thanksgiving holiday, trainer recommends leaving early and always just plan for delays. just in case. live at sfo gloria
