stole something priceless. one family shares their hope that someone will do the right thing. tonight on abc seven news at 11 always live abc seven news starts right now. >> one of the fbi's most wanted is finally behind bars tonight. after decades on the run for bombings that rattled the east bay. the animal rights extremist ducked into a bart station and disappeared 20 years ago today. police arrested him thousands of miles away. good evening. thank you for joining us. >> i'm dan ashley, and i'm ama daetz daniel. san diego is accused of setting off multiple bombs at east bay. businesses with ties to animal testing. >> abc seven news reporter tim johns is here with us with a look at the legacy of these crimes, which had san diego sharing a list with the leaders. tim, of al qaeda. >> yeah, dan, i'm a san diego is a known animal rights extremist and has been charged for carrying out two bombings that happened here in the bay area back in 2003. now, no one was

hurt. thankfully, but investigators tell us the incidents deeply impacted the community. 2003 was also the last time law enforcement says san diego was seen, until he was arrested in the uk. daniel san diego, who has been on the fbi's most wanted terrorist list for years, has been charged for planting two bombs on the campus of an emeryville biotech company that used to be called chiron corporation. the fbi says security footage shows san diego walking outside just before the explosions. the first bomb going off near the entrance and the second in the parking lot. a month later, a third bomb that the fbi says san diego built exploded at the pleasanton headquarters of a nutritional products company called shaklee corporation. following the events, san diego went on the run and wasn't seen for over 20 years until his arrest in the uk on monday, a move that's not totally unexpected, says former fbi agent rick smith. >> there's a case agent in san francisco that is required to update every month. the leads developed in a case and the

progress in a case. so there's someone that's conscious of the case at all times. >> san diego is believed to have been a part of an organization called the animal liberation brigade. gerry valasek, who is a press officer for a different animal rights group, says the brigade hasn't been active in over a decade. >> these organizations are not really card carrying memberships that you can sign up to. they're more like ideologically, people get together and say, we're going to act on behalf of this organization. they're they're basically independent cells. >> valasek says while he never met san diego, he remembers the incident occurring. he tells me he believes these locations were targeted specifically for the work they did with other companies that had labs involved with animal testing. >> this organization felt like, well, we've tried all the peaceful means. we've asked nicely, we've protested, we've even gone to people's homes and protested in this particular case and that campaign, nothing's working. so we're going to, you know, bump it up a notch. >> now, san diego did appear in a london courtroom earlier

me show it to you in the morning on thursday. we're talking about a cold one with frost, 30s and 40s. mainly sunny skies at 4 p.m. we are looking at milder weather with 50s and 60s. the chill will settle back in again by nightfall. look at these live pictures. i mean, visibility is terrific no matter which direction you look, but the chill is in the air. it is 44 degrees right now in livermore and san ramon. 53 san jose in the north bay, 39 in calistoga, 42 in santa rosa. looking at live doppler seven, we do have the last of the moisture moving to our south, and it is moving out of the picture. so if you are traveling, here's a look at the forecast. it's looking good tomorrow. 37 in tahoe. sunny skies, 66 in los angeles. look at thanksgiving. 75, palm springs 53, in eureka. i'll be back with a full look at the forecast, which includes that holiday weekend coming up. dan. >> all right, sandhya, thanks very much. a live look tonight at the airports in san francisco and san jose, which are busy

with travelers of course, for the thanksgiving holiday. the tsa is expecting to screen a total of more than 18 million passengers between tonight and monday. so far, the weather is holding up. >> it should, for the most part, be smooth with a record number of americans expected to travel for the holiday. >> experts aren't predicting any major bumps in the road. triple a expects 80 million people to go at least 50 miles from home for thanksgiving. outside of the weather, there is one thing worth watching that could throw a wrench into plans for those who are flying. >> another thing that we're kind of keeping an eye out for is air traffic control, potentially causing disruptions during this week, just because that is something that the tsa and the faa have warned about. >> despite concerns about the possible air traffic controller shortages, travelers so far have found the lines to be manageable, at least at newark liberty international airport. >> not horrible. i've been in worse, but i will say the customer service going through

united has been pretty good, so that has made the process a lot better, but definitely very crowded. a lot going on. >> for those worried about potential problems and getting stuck, or perhaps even missing their flight, there's this approach very stressed out about delays, about waiting in lines. >> i don't like waiting in lines. so we need to get early. >> experts suggest if you are traveling domestically, you should try to get to the airport three hours early and be sure to familiarize yourself with the tsa guidelines. you don't want to get pulled out of line and have to go through extra screening. i think the best thing you can do if you're flying is to make sure you get to the airport early. >> i think that itself just takes out a lot of the stress from traveling. >> now, for those driving. triple a recommends making your trip on thanksgiving day. that's when the roads will be least crowded. a sunday is expected to be the busiest travel day, particularly at the airports, as folks rush back home in the north bay. >> plenty of people are still cleaning up after several back to back storms. just look at

this muddy mess in spring lake regional park in santa rosa. a dozen parks across sonoma county are still closed because of storm damage. county crews are busy inspecting facilities and repairing damage. >> concord police are searching for several people responsible for an armed robbery inside the sun valley mall. the robbery took place last night at balwani jewelers. witnesses say the suspects wearing masks and hoods and armed with hammers, shattered glass display cases and ran off with several pieces of jewelry. the good news no injuries during this robbery. >> oakland's budget woes could lead to some much bigger problems. s&p global ratings says the city's nearly $94 million deficit could lead to the city's credit getting downgraded. last year, multiple agencies actually bumped the rating up, which is an indicator of the risk involved in lending the city money. s&p cites overspending as a primary concern, which could result in the rating getting knocked down a few notches. it also notes the recall of mayor shengtao could complicate matters at city hall. oakland is expected to announce

its budget cuts next month. >> tackling homelessness and protecting our environment are both parts of building a better bay area and tonight in santa clara county, water officials have voted in favor of a proposal designed to keep homeless encampments away from waterways. the ordinance from valley water lays out protection zones. enforcement would include a warning first with 72 hours for the homeless individual to voluntarily relocate. the next step would be a misdemeanor charge with a fine or jail time as punishment. >> the intention of the ordinance is not to criminalize or punish unsheltered people, it's to result in better behaviors in the waterway and to prevent the kind of staff safety issues and environmental degradation that we're seeing. >> waterways have become makeshift homes for many of the unhoused in santa clara county. the ordinance goes into effect on december 26th. >> a car break-in in the south

bay is hitting one family, especially hard. thieves took several items, including the special wheelchair their son with cerebral palsy needs to get around. tonight, the family tells abc seven news reporter lauren martinez they really hope someone will do the right thing. >> i looked everything was all over the floor. everything was taken out. sorry. >> rachel teopan is searching for her son's wheelchair. it was inside her suv, but was stolen when thieves broke into the car while it was parked outside her san jose townhome tuesday morning. teopan son, miguel, has cerebral palsy. >> the manual wheelchair is the only chair that i could be able to take him in, in my car, to be able to get anywhere. so he is his legs, basically. so it's basically like making him stuck. >> this is what miguel's chair looks like. it's custom made for him. >> it's a red chair. it's the black seat cushion and it has his nickname in the back, which is miko. especially with how it has to fit him correctly with

the harness. because he does shake hands. >> electric scooter and airpods were stolen as well, but that's not what's making this mom of four upset. it's the wheelchair. >> i was off. i was off. disbelief. >> since the apple airpods were stolen, she used the find my app on her phone, which pinged her to a location less than a mile away. >> it's right there. and if it's right there, like so, could my wheelchair be right there? i sent that information to the cops to see if they could be able to do anything with it. >> for 24 year old miguel. he just wants his wheelchair back to get around, to get around. during this week of giving many people who heard about the teopan story on social media have offered to donate, but right now, teopan is hoping they can get the chair back. >> all you want is the chair. >> chair. i don't care anything else. leave it at majestic way for all i care. i'll leave it somewhere. put a post-it on it. i want to be able to just hopefully get a chair back.

francisco. visa says the cuts are designed to streamline its international operations. the company reported strong earnings last month, with quarterly revenue up 12% from a year ago, with voters approving the closure of a two mile stretch of the great highway. >> san francisco's plans for the road's future are taking shape. the city has submitted a plan to the california coastal commission that will transform it into a park. it includes a transformation for part of sloat boulevard and calls for a protected bike lane. this will mean, of course, less street parking, roughly 90 spots are going to go away. the commission is expected to vote on this proposal next month. >> the gym chain, fitness sf, is taking over a long vacant piece of property in san francisco. fitness sf will open its ninth location in the old lombardi sports building at polk and jackson streets. it's a two story, 44,000 square foot building. the new owners plan to create a gym that includes a recovery area and cryotherapy lounges, and space for specialized workout classes.

>> well, the days of early morning lines out the door on black friday seem to be gone in many spots. but there is one business expecting a morning rush. this week. tomorrow, a new costco opens its doors in pleasanton. the store on johnson drive will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony at 7:30 a.m. eager shoppers can line up before the grand opening. starting at 6 a.m, the store will be closed for thanksgiving. this is the third costco warehouse in the tri-valley area, along with stores in danville and livermore. >> a two day event to benefit san francisco's tenderloin district continues tomorrow. the festivities kicked off today with the turkey donation and block party. donors can drop off turkeys for the annual thanksgiving day meal at glide memorial church. organizers say this year's goal is to collect 300 donated turkeys. >> everyone is worthy of a special meal. we're seeing more and more folks who are really in need of a warm holiday meal this season, and so also because of the rising cost of groceries, we are relying on our community to help us provide these meals.

been a snowy thanksgiving week in lake tahoe with storms dumping snow for days. check out the slopes at palisades tahoe today covered in fresh powder. the ski resort says it's received nine inches of fresh snow in the past day, bringing the total so far this season to 56in. sierra at tahoe is the next resort set to open scheduled for friday. >> isn't it interesting how things seem to change? so it seems like just a few weeks ago it was 90 degrees. >> i mean, wasn't it? i feel like it really was. >> meteorologist sandhya patel is here. sandhya, great to see the rain leave us for the holiday weekend. yeah, absolutely. >> we need a break after that week long wet weather. dan and ama, we certainly needed the rain, don't get me wrong. and we needed the snow. so take a look at this snowy scene from the sierra. this is a time lapse from earlier tonight. this was from homewood. you can see quite a bit of snow on the ground. it is so pretty. let's check out the 72 hour snowfall totals. 31in fell at boreal 20. sugar bowl. you will notice about 12in. sierra at tahoe and 14in

dodge ridge. bear valley. 18in of snow. and tonight our live view from our sutro tower camera is just an absolutely glorious one. looking at downtown san francisco. not so glorious. we're seeing that chill. we're feeling that chill. look at the temperatures. they're in the 40s and the 50s right now, as we look at the 24 hour temperature change running ten degrees lower in santa rosa and livermore, six degrees in san jose and down nine in oakland. now this just in the frost advisory that was supposed to go up just for a day has now been duplicated for a second day as well. so 10 p.m. tomorrow night until 9 a.m. thursday. and again from 10 p.m. thursday until 9 a.m. friday. so the next two nights, not tonight. north and east bay valleys and hills, along with the eastern santa clara hills, will go under that advisory. temperatures are going to drop down to freezing, and that means frost will damage any sensitive plants. so take precautions
