6:00. >> breaking news, a deadly cyber truck crash. we're live in piedmont with what we know about the early morning incident. >> and traveling for thanksgiving. the best and worst times to drive, and the possible disruptions for flights. this week. good morning to you. it's wednesday, november 27th, and it's cold out there. >> it really is chilly, isn't it? and it's going to be cold the next couple of mornings, so let's get right to it. here's a look at the satellite radar composite image. and you can see clear skies for the bay area. showers moving inland to our south. and under these clear skies, temperatures have dropped. as a matter of fact, the 24 hour temperature change shows a dramatic drop up in the north bay, where it's 16 degrees colder in novato right now than this time yesterday morning, 13 degrees colder in santa rosa and many inland east bay locations are eight to about 12 degrees colder than this time yesterday. so more specifically, right now it's 51 in san francisco, oakland 52. you can see over the inland east bay, 42, 43 degrees up in the north bay, 38 at santa rosa, right now, only 36 at cloverdale down in the south

bay. a little bit milder is 48, in gilroy, 51 at san jose. as we get into the afternoon hours, it will get a little bit milder, but not a lot. high temperatures up to about 60 degrees around the bay shoreline. low 60s at santa rosa and san rafael. today, many inland east bay locations locations will remain below 60 degrees. today down in the south bay, we'll see a high of 63 at san jose. good morning sue. >> good morning spencer, and let's take a look right off the bat at the bay bridge, where the metering lights have been turned on at about 545 this morning, but minor delays behind them, a little bit sluggish heading towards the tunnel on the upper deck into san francisco, but not a bad drive at all from hercules all the way to san francisco and through the bay bridge. still under 30 minutes, we do have a trouble spot. unfortunately, this was a fatality. it looks like they've opened up a couple more lanes southbound on 680 and san ramon. it was near crow canyon and bollinger canyon. traffic looks to be improving here, but i would still take san

ramon valley boulevard. if you need to get around the slowing. >> all right. thank you. sue. and as you're waking up this morning, we want to get you updated on some breaking news. we're tracking in the east bay. a deadly crash has happened in piedmont. early this morning at hampton road and king avenue. that's where abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is live. right now. and, gloria, we understand you just spoke to piedmont police. >> i did, yes, and i got a lot more information about this. you can see behind me that this is a very active scene right now. there are crews here on the scene. i'm going to move aside to give you the latest as far as what we know. we know that three people are dead. one person was injured and taken to the hospital. now, the police captain here tells me that this was a solo crash. this happened about 3:00 in the morning. they tell me that the person was in a tesla cybertruck, and that that truck is the one that called 911. after that collision, we know that the truck also went up in flames. and again, three people have died. one person was

injured. all of them were in that same cyber truck. and we're told that the coroner is going to be here in about ten minutes, and that other person is still in the hospital, and we're still waiting to get more information about what exactly led up to this. at this point, they tell me they don't want to speculate about how the crash happened. so of course, hopefully we'll get more information, know exactly what happened. but we're told about 30 minutes. we should get another update. so we will let you know. live in piedmont gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> a lot developing. gloria. thank you for that update. we're also tracking the latest on this ceasefire deal between israel and hezbollah. >> the cease fire started last night and so far it appears to be holding. abc news reporter perry russom live for us in dc this morning. perry, the secretary of state, is definitely thinking this could be a sign of things to come in israel's war with hamas. >> yeah, he says they now have some leverage to get a cease fire between israel and hamas. the gaza health ministry says more than 44,000 people have

been killed in gaza since that war started. this morning, calm on the israeli-lebanese border. the new ceasefire deal between israel and hezbollah, holding in his first few hours dancing and singing inside in lebanon. relief after nearly 14 months of fighting. >> this is designed to be a permanent cessation of hostilities. what is left of hezbollah and other terrorist organizations will not be allowed. >> the deal calls for israel to gradually withdraw its troops from lebanon and for hezbollah to end its presence in the southern part of the country. >> if hezbollah or anyone else breaks the deal and poses a direct threat to israel, then israel retains the right to self-defense, consistent with international law. just like any country, when facing a terrorist group, pledge to that country's >> the deal, negotiated with the help of the united states and france. >> il y a quelques heures. >> french president emmanuel

macron calling the deal a new page for lebanon. secretary of state antony blinken says israel's ceasefire with hezbollah can have a significant impact on getting one done with hamas to end the war in gaza, because one of the things that hamas has sought from day one is to get others in on the fight to create multiple fronts, to make sure that israel was having to fight in a whole series of different places and as long as it's thought that that was possible, that's one of the reasons it's held back from doing what's necessary to end the conflict. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu says if hezbollah breaks the ceasefire and tries to rearm, they will attack, saying for every violation they will attack with might live in washington. perry russom, abc seven news. >> all right, perry, thank you. we will continue to follow every development of the ceasefire deal here on air and online. just visit abc7 news.com or download the abc7 bay area app to enable push alerts

now. here's a look at the best and worst times to drive ahead of thanksgiving. according to triple a. >> of course, tomorrow is the holiday. if you leave before 10 a.m. today, that should that should set you up for a pretty nice ride. otherwise, the nightmare travel time is between 1 and 5. try to avoid that today. now on your way back hom, friday after 1 p.m. is the best time to hit the road. you're going to want to avoid between 7 and 10 a.m. on saturday. if you leave before one, you should be in the clear. you can expect a crowded travel day from 4 to 8 p.m, though triple a expects 80 million people to go at least 50 miles from home for thanksgiving if you're flying. the tsa is expecting to screen nearly 3 million people today. the weather is a potential problem. if you're flying east, a snowstorm could drop up to three feet in colorado, and we are looking at some rain in the east coast tomorrow. >> another thing that we're kind of keeping an eye out for is air

traffic control potentially causing disruptions during this week. just because that is something that the tsa and the faa have warned about. >> that issue happened last night at newark airport in new jersey. the airport experienced delays due to a shortage of air traffic controllers and it could happen to other airports over the next few days. sunday is expected to be the busiest travel day at airports. >> another potential hurdle to be aware of. contract workers at the oakland airport will rally today. the group is made of employees who clean planes and handle baggage, and also help with wheelchair passengers at the airport. we'll take you to a live look from our okay camera. they are calling on the port of oakland for higher pay and affordable health care. workers say they make less than $20 an hour. oakland city council president nikki fortunato bass will join their rally today at noon. there will also be another rally across the bay. aviation technicians under united airlines teamsters union are picketing at sfo. they're

demanding industry leading wage, improved health care benefits and better safety standards. the rally will be a part of a so-called day of action at airports across the country. teamsters and united have been negotiating for five months now. the teamsters picket begins at 8:00 this morning at sfo. so keep that in mind as you're traveling. >> if you're flying out of san jose mineta today, you might see some furry friends at the terminal six happy tails therapy animals will be out parading around to help lift people's spirits during a hectic travel period. the airports program is made up of more than 50 certified therapy animals, including dogs, cats and one rabbit. if you don't see those animals today, they tend to be around during the weekends and the evenings. >> we're following new developments as the mountain west conference women's volleyball championship tournament kicks off today in las vegas. a u.s. court of appeals upheld a lower court ruling accounting allowing san jose state's volleyball team to take part in this tournament. a

team mate had sought an emergency injunction to make a san jose state player ineligible to play because they say she is transgender. the judge ruled the athlete is playing within the rules set by the ncaa. the spartans play on friday. >> san mateo county sheriff christina corpus is again letting everyone know she has no plans to resign. she posted a letter to her staff in the community yesterday. the letter reads in part, quote, this moment challenges not only my leadership, but the independence and integrity of this office. i will not step down, nor will i allow this institution to be politicized or influenced by special interests. on monday, san carlos became the first city to call on sheriff corpus to resign over misconduct allegations. san carlos has relied on the sheriff's office for law enforcement services since 2011. the county board of supervisors is also demanding her resignation, as well as members of the sheriff's office. this all comes after a report accusing the sheriff of abuse of power and having an inappropriate relationship with the chief of staff, who she

recently promoted, and sending racist and homophobic text messages. sheriff corpus denies those allegations. she spoke directly with abc seven news i-team reporter dan noyes about the report, and the allegations, and so did her chief of staff. you can see those interviews on our website, abc seven news.com slash i-team. >> taking a look at our weather on this eve of thanksgiving, we've got satellite radar, composite image showing clearing skies here in the bay area. all these disturbances are moving onshore, are moving on land to our south. so right now we're looking at temperature readings that are pretty chilly up in the north bay, 38 degrees in santa rosa, 36 in cloverdale. as you get closer to the golden gate, it's a little bit milder, 51 degrees here in san francisco. oakland 52 over in the inland east bay, temperatures are in the low to mid 40s. but as we get into the afternoon hours under sunny skies, we'll see high temperatures rising up to about 60 degrees around the bay shoreline down to the south bay san jose will top out at 63 inland, east bay locations like

shengtao ousted in a recall. the focus now turns to filling her seat. there's going to be a special election next year, and the group behind the recall is making sure their voices continue to be heard. yesterday, leaders of the group laid out their priorities. they want the next mayor to renegotiate union contracts to help close the city's massive budget deficit, which is already more than 100 million in the short term. plus, they're calling for no cuts to public safety. and they say that all non-profits that receive city money should be audited. retired judge. retired judge

brenda harbin, 40, says she does not want to see anyone run for mayor who did not support the recall, such as barbara lee, who said that the recall was anti-democratic. >> it's one thing to say, don't recall her because she's doing a good job, but to say that no matter what kind of job she's doing, it's anti-democratic for you to try to recall her. that's an entirely different message and an unfortunate message. >> mayor will step down once the votes have been certified, and city council formally accepts that certification. that's probably mid-december. a special election will most likely be held in april, three weeks after election day. we're getting a better idea of what san francisco mayor elect daniel lurie's agenda will look like. lawrie's naming advisers to his transition team that includes his senior adviser on labor relations, james araby, who's a longtime labor organizer. more than 15% of workers in california are unionized. it's one of the highest shares of unionized workers nationwide.

it's why araby says workers rights should be top of mind for city leaders. >> you know, i think he needs to make sure that, you know, the people in the city are taken care of and that employers understand that this is a union town. and i think this mayor elect will be able to really think through not only getting business in the right place, but making sure that workers that are here are protected as well. >> mayor elect lurie has yet to announce permanent positions, i should say, for advisers in his administration. he could potentially move his transition advisers into those permanent spots. a popular holiday home still has tourists stopping by and taking pictures. more than two decades after the movie, the movie was featured. it was featured and got released. >> we're talking about the house from the classic holiday film home alone. it's actually so popular. police added more patrols in the neighborhood and camped out really near this house during the holiday season. the home is located in winnetka, illinois, a very nice suburb of chicago. police say sightseeing has not caused many problems,

degrees cooler in concord and livermore. so on. we go to a look at current temperature readings as we also look out over san francisco from sutro tower, 51 degrees. right now here in the city, 52 in oakland, hayward down to 48 or getting up to 40, i should say. it was cooler earlier. 51 san jose, 44, redwood city and 52 at half moon bay. skies. skies getting brighter now in the eastern sky as the sun is going to rise soon. it is 38 degrees santa rosa right now. petaluma 36. 48 napa. fairfield 49 and low 40s at concord and livermore. when we go to the afternoon, which will be sunny and bright and not very mild, but seasonably cool with highs around 60 degrees in san francisco, oakland, san jos, san mateo, rather down at san jose, a high of 63 this afternoon. inland we will warm to only upper 50s, but up in the north bay we'll see a wider range. 59 at napa, 62 will be the high at santa rosa and san rafael. and as we look ahead, these are our forecast

headlines for the next two nights it will be cold with areas of frost, especially in the hills and in the valleys. thanksgiving tomorrow, bright and sunny day. so something for which to be thankful. and the holiday weekend following thanksgiving will bring us morning fog followed by afternoon sunshine and milder conditions. so things are looking up as we get into the week. the weekend. sue hall. >> good morning. spencer. hi. yeah, we are starting off with a beautiful morning. take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. yes. the metering lights are on, but a very minor backup. in fact, we would call this pre holiday light. there's a little bit of slowing on the span. still a nice ride all the way from hercules into san francisco. we do have this problem spot. it continues in san ramon. it is southbound 680 a fatal accident. a pedestrian ran on the freeway earlier this morning. they're going to be out there for some time. only one lane is getting by. so i suggest san ramon valley boulevard to

get around this and even that part is starting to slow now. certainly, you'll have to deal with the stoplights. if you're taking bart to the oakland airport, expect delays on their shuttle into the airport of about 20 minutes. >> that is good to know for all those people traveling today. thank you sue. now to our breaking news. we're tracking in the east bay. a deadly crash early this morning in the city of piedmont. >> this happened shortly after 3 a.m. at hampton road and king avenue. so if you know this area, you know piedmont is a quiet community, completely surrounded by the city of oakland between highway 13 and interstate 580. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez has been talking with police there this morning, and she's joining us live with what investigators are now saying. gloria. reporter. >> well, stephanie, as you mentioned, this is a very quiet community. it's a residential upscale neighborhood. and they say this is very rare for this to happen here. they have blocked off the portion of the street where the accident happened. and you can see behind me, there's still a lot of activity here as police are

here. the coroner has just arrived and this is such a tragedy. i did have a chance to talk to the piedmont police captain, captain chris monahan. and he tells me that three people died. one person was injured in this crash. the person injured is in the hospital after crews pulled them from the truck. all four people were in a tesla cybertruck which burst into flames. this all happened around three this morning, and the truck called 911. after the collision, a resident also called and officers found the car in flames. it's not clear how fast the truck was going, and the cause of the crash is still not known. >> i'm not going to speculate on what i think happened at this point. we don't know, but the vehicle jumped the curb, struck a cement wall and then wedged in between the wall and a tree. >> and we still don't know the relationship of everybody in that truck. we are working to get more information about what caused this collision. and we're expected to get an update here

hopefully pretty soon. so of course we'll let you know any new information as soon as we have it live in piedmont. gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> thank you. gloria. one of the fbi's most wanted is in custody. this morning. investigators say animal rights extremist daniel san diego ducked into a bart station and disappeared 20 years ago after setting off multiple bombs at east bay. businesses with ties to animal testing san diego was arrested on monday in northern wales. the 46 year old is being charged for three bombings two in emeryville, one in pleasanton in 2003. he's believed to have been part of an organization called the animal liberation brigade. >> this organization felt like, well, we've tried all the peaceful means. we've asked nicely. we've protested, we've even gone to people's homes and protested in this particular case, and that campaign, nothing's working. so we're going to, you know, bump it up a notch. >> san diego now faces extradition back to the u.s, a fairmont hotel employee was arrested carrying a loaded gun

while vice president kamala harris was staying there this week. >> the secret service does not think the vice president was a target or under any threat. a metal detector set up by the vice president's security detail detected the firearm yesterday morning. a background check of that employee found he had an arrest warrant pending in texas. the man faces felony charges for carrying a concealed firearm in public. harris left the fairmont yesterday afternoon without incident. >> an alarming report shows retail theft cost stores more than $121 billion last year nationwide. prosecutors in new york say they've busted one of the largest retail theft schemes. they've ever seen. five suspects were arrested in a multi-state operation targeting stores like ulta beauty, sephora and macy's. they're accused of stealing more than $2 million in merchandise, then reselling it online, on the street and abroad. new york's governor says it's not only costing stores, but consumers. >> costs are going up. costs go up in a store when they have to

recover the loss that they don't make on the stolen goods. think about that. >> a woman in southern california got charged last year in a cosmetics theft operation. she stole $8 million worth of product. you may notice increased chp presence at stores on black friday and throughout the busy holiday season. the governor's office announcing the organized retail crime task force will patrol shopping centers to crack down on retail theft. teams will work with local law enforcement to make arrests and keep store employees and shoppers safe. the governor's office says the task force has made over 1200 arrests so far this year. >> the santa clara county sheriff's office is working with other law enforcement agencies to offer people with certain nonviolent misdemeanor warrants a chance to avoid jail time. it would be through the operation second chance program in the month of december. people who are eligible can receive a citation with a new court date instead of being booked into county jail. certain warrants, though, are not eligible for this, including felony warrants.

shelter for 90 days total unless they meet strict requirements for a 30 day extension. families can already stay in a shelter for 90 days, but the new rules also restrict who will be eligible for shelter and who can be placed on a waitlist. hlsz says the changes will help them focus on the most vulnerable unhoused groups. critics argue it will push more families onto the street. the rules take effect december 10th. new at six, something you probably don't want to hear if you ride bart. fares are going up in the new year. the increase is five and a half cents across the board. so you end up paying about $0.25 more per trip on average. bart says the increase is to keep up with inflation. if you want to check your commute, you can use bart's trip planner and just set the depart or arrive date after january 1st to see the new cost. >> the gym chain, fitness sf is taking over a long vacant piece of property here in san francisco. fitness sf will open its ninth location in the old lombardi sports building at polk and jackson streets. it's a two

story, 44,000 square foot building. the new owners plan to create a gym that includes a recovery area and a cryotherapy lounge, as well as space for specialized workout classes. >> there's now a plan for a two mile stretch of the great highway in san francisco. after voters approved closing it permanently. a proposal to the california coastal commission will transform it into a park. it includes a transformation for part of sloat boulevard and calls for a protected bike lane. this will mean less street parking. roughly 90 spots will disappear. the commission is expected to vote on that proposal next month. >> the nation's first standalone lgbtq plus museum will have a permanent home here in san francisco. yesterday, the city finalized the purchase of 2280 market street in the castro district. the property will become the gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender historical society museum. the museum has been in temporary locations in the city for two decades now. a lease still needs to be finalized and presented to the board of supervisors for
