900 pounds of potatoes and 1600 challah challah bread. it's really inspiring to see how many people want to give back. >> it's an honor of a lifetime. >> you get back as much as you give. >> i think it's a good way to help people across the bay area. >> volunteers are out in full force this thanksgiving to help feed the hungry. good evening and happy thanksgiving to you, i'm kristen z. and i'm karina nova. we begin today with a thanksgiving tradition that turned into a memorial for three people killed in a fatal accident yesterday in piedmont. runners taking part in the piedmont, turkey trot left flowers next to the tree, where a cybertruck crashed and caught fire. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez was at the run today. >> i'd ask you to share a moment of silence for the families who are still heal, the families who are grieving, who've lost their loved ones. everyone has been affected by this tragedy. >> many hugging, crying and holding each other at the piedmont, turkey trot as they dedicated a moment of silence to

three young people who died in a fiery crash early wednesday morning. one other person was critically injured. the piedmont mayor speaking to the crowd. i do know that we're going to get through this together in community, and i know that when we're feeling helpless, the one thing we can do is reach out to help others. >> one truck on piedmont. happy thanksgiving! >> the 23rd annual walk run becoming a way to mourn together and comfort each other. the route altered going by the side of the crash. so those running and walking in the five-k could place flowers and pay their respects. 1500 flowers were donated. cairo osman and nathaniel shrewsberry were teammates of two of the victims at piedmont high, and took flowers of their own in their honor. >> it's really great to see because, like, it's good to see the power of community and how much we can come together and show love for the families and everyone who's struggling right now. >> the community really loved them. they brought a lot of energy and a lot of spirits to

the community, and i feel like it's like it's only fitting that people show their respect and give me a vehicle on fire. >> three other reports of people trapped inside the vehicle were unable to get into it. it's completely engulfed. >> police say the four people were in a tesla cybertruck that jumped the curb, hit a cement wall and got wedged between the wall and a tree before bursting into flames around 3:00 wednesday morning. no other cars were involved. a driver in a second car traveling behind the truck was able to pull one person out of the burning truck and action, the piedmont fire chief says, may have saved a life. the piedmont police chief says speed was likely a factor in the crash, and they are still investigating. at least 2400 people participated in this turkey trot. the community taking time before having their thanksgiving dinners to honor those they lost. in piedmont, gloria rodriguez, abc seven news. >> an early morning pursuit in the south bay ended in a fatal wreck in saratoga. a deputy tried to pull over this unreported stolen vehicle in cupertino, but the driver would

not stop. the chase ended in saratoga when the vehicle crashed into a tree on saratoga. los gatos road near villa colina. there were four juveniles inside. a male passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. another male and two females were arrested. the driver faces felony evasion charges. >> turning now to the weather. and it's a chilly thanksgiving. kristen. >> yeah. abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel is here now with the forecast. hey, sandhya. hi, there. >> yeah. kristen and karina. temperatures dropping to the 20s in our coldest spots. this morning. but look at these beautiful views. something we can be thankful for on this thanksgiving. i hope you're enjoying you can see a lot of sun creating high clouds. excuse me. creating a beautiful sunset tonight from our tower cameras. here's a look at the temperatures. bundle up because the temperatures are in the 50s in many areas and they'll be falling as we head towards the overnight hours. here's your hourly planner for this thanksgiving. going from the 50s around the bay to the 40s, heading towards morning and eventually dropping off into

the 30s for our coldest spots. that's why a frost advisory is going up 10:00 tonight until 9 a.m. tomorrow, and again tomorrow night into saturday morning. temperatures as low as 34 degrees. and this is the north and east bay valleys and hills. eastern santa clara hills. i'll be back to show you how cold it's going to get. coming up. karina. kristen. >> and now to a thanksgiving tradition feeding the hungry. >> abc seven news reporter tara campbell followed along today as glide helped bring meals to those who need it most. you want the bag? >> sure. >> all right. one greeting at a time. this crew from glide giving out 250 thanksgiving meals to some of san francisco's hardest to reach all the way out to the most remote part of the city and find the folks that are unhoused right there and just touch them with a little bit of what glide test is a community here with melanie castro, also known as sister anya streets is a member of the sisters of perpetual indulgence, a group of queer and trans activists. >> come on up. heading up

glide's harm reduction team. >> it's on the ground nearly every day, connecting people with services and supplies. >> it means the world to people like me. you know, i've been out here struggling with nothing for so long and, you know, to get by is kind of hard these days. and glide really comes through with a lot of resources. food, clothing, medical supplies means like family and community. >> it's just a nice reminder of, like, what it means to be human. >> just the meals today. >> i know they help out a lot, you know? and they're like, they don't ask you for anything. you know? it's a blessing to have them around. >> happy thanksgiving. what do you think you'd be doing without this meal today? i'd probably be hungry. yeah. and may i ask you your name, ma'am? my name is maggie. maggie. how long have you been out here? maggie? >> like six months. >> it's nice to show that glide is there for them and that we love people unconditionally. like, wherever they're at.

>> but keeping track of where people are at is getting harder as the city ups its efforts to get people off the streets. >> take one more look around. makes it a challenge for us to find people in the same areas. but we're going to continue to go out every day because the need is there. and so we have to. it's up to us to go ahead and look for the folks. >> meanwhile, those with the least, perhaps with the most gratitude. it's amazing. >> it's great. you know, nothing else i could ask for. >> tara campbell, abc seven news, san francisco. >> saint anthony foundation brought thanksgiving cheer to the tenderloin today. the nonprofit served up 2000 holiday meals, kitchen staff prepared an impressive 4,000 pounds of turkey, 900 pounds of potatoes and nearly 1700 servings of fruit crumble. the saint anthony's thanksgiving meal service is a tradition running nearly 75 years at the salvation army central kitchen. volunteers lined up early to pick up boxed thanksgiving meals. those meals

were delivered to over 4000 low income seniors and homebound people across the city. we found san francisco supervisor matt dorsey helping out this morning, a holiday tradition for him. >> part of what gratitude is and what thanksgiving is, is, is also giving back to the community and really being there for others to make sure that everybody has an opportunity to celebrate in the holidays. >> and the boxes that were given out were filled with a traditional thanksgiving feast. >> vice president kamala harris and second gentleman doug emhoff are back in d.c. for thanksgiving. this morning they were at the dc central kitchen helping prepare thanksgiving meals on monday. the two overnighted in san francisco after a post-election family vacation in hawaii. >> well, this thanksgiving marks an important first for one bay area mother and son. it's the first holiday that they're officially a family. >> abc seven news reporter zach fuentes has more on how an adoption changed the life of a

ten year old boy. >> ten year old davion brock has been excited about this thanksgiving for a long time. >> i'm just looking forward to, like, go and see my family members and everybody else, like, eat. >> that's because this thanksgiving is unlike any he or his family have shared before. it's the first since he was adopted by his now mom, priscilla dixon. priscilla first started caring for davion when he was a baby, taking over care from his birth mother. >> you could take him for six months, but god wanted me to take care of longer. >> now, after all of these years. so davion and priscilla are officially a family. >> we all excited, you know me because it was a long journey and we were there when that journey came to a joyful end. >> so davion was adopted on national adoption day, the week before thanksgiving. santa clara county family court held a special celebration for families to make their adoptions official. we got to be there for syldavian ceremony, capturing the moment his adoption became official. >> i would treasure today beyond all the days of my life, all the days of my life.

>> so davion and priscilla were surrounded by family and friends in the courtroom. >> i had some of my friends, my sisters, my grandpas. i have my teacher, my nurse, my nurse. i have a lot of my family members here. >> looking back, priscilla says the joy she feels isn't just for her family, but all who were there on adoption day. >> i was just so happy for all those kids that did get adopted. i looked online all over the world. people, kids was getting adopted, so it was very exciting for me. >> and so davion, more joy comes now looking ahead to the rest of their lives from this thanksgiving onward. how you feel about this all being official now? and you having this first thanksgiving? >> i just feel really happy about it. and yeah, i just feel really happy about it. >> this first thanksgiving we're going to have, we all going to love on davion. everybody going to be talking to davion. you in our family now. you're in our family now. so are you really family. >> you know in the south bay zach fuentes abc seven news.

>> in the east bay, thousands of runners hit the pavement for an early morning run around lake merritt. oakland's annual turkey trot benefited the alameda county food bank and the oakland public education fund. in benicia, community members donned their most festive thanksgiving costumes to take part in an annual turkey trot there. the turkey trot benefits the tim and jeannie hammond foundation. it raises money to help cancer patients pay the bills and cover other essential needs. >> still ahead, a busy holiday travel week. but it's not breaking records. and the woman who tried to get a free ride to paris. >> and giving thanks. why gratitude could be healthy if you do it all year long. abc seven news at five. we'll be right back.

giving dinner tonight. you are among the 2.7 million people who pass through airport security in the u.s. yesterday. that's almost the same number as last year on the day before thanksgiving. this sunday will be another busy travel day, with more than 3 million expected to fly home. all right, so speaking of security, federal officials are spending this thanksgiving trying to figure out how a woman managed to stow away on a delta airlines flight from new york to paris this week. >> flight attendants on the sold out flight crew's suspicious when they saw the woman hopping from bathroom to bathroom. police took her into custody and after the flight landed at de gaulle airport, the airline, fbi and the tsa, they are now

investigating how she got past two checkpoints at kennedy airport, where she should have had a boarding pass and her id checked. >> okay. tomorrow is black friday. did you hear that, sandy? but the deals began early this year, and that's a big help to retailers. >> yeah, people have been shopping all week for a couple of weeks, i guess. and it's not just online this year. more people are heading back into stores as well. >> abc news reporter melissa don has the rundown on the shopping. >> it's the most magical time of the year for shoppers, and the holiday season is also considered the busiest spending season of the year, according to new e-commerce data gathered by adobe analytics. since the start of the holiday season on november 1st, consumers have already spent more than $77 billion online. that's up more than 9% year over year. and consumers are spending the most on electronics and year over year data finds that spending is also up on necessities like apparel and groceries. but what

may be holiday deals are adding up to holiday debt at least three surveys from wallet hub, nerdwallet and intuit credit karma finds consumers are still carrying debt from last year's holiday spending. there's one survey finding that one third of consumers are actually carrying at least $5,000 in debt. so while online shopping remains the top destination for holiday shoppers this year, according to the national retail federation, malls are actually expecting a good volume of foot traffic for those in-person shoppers. >> gifting is something consumers do like to do in person. they like to see items before buying them. and then, of course, there are moments like black friday, which is often an in-person event or tradition for many people. >> melissa don, abc news, los angeles. >> juana two is in theaters now, but just how does the animation magic happen? >> we'll take you behind the scenes next

and for an animated movie like this, it takes a huge team to create everything you see and hear. reporter george pennacchio got a look at how disney's animation team makes everything feel so real. >> we recently spent a day at the walt disney animation studios in burbank for a look behind the scenes, including the recording booth where actors voiced their characters. >> so when we do adr, obviously everything on screen is already final and locked. >> hualalai chung, who voices moana, gave me a beginner's lesson. i played the grumpy old farmer on moana's crew. >> at the beginning of this clip, you'll hear three beeps that'll go beep beep beep land. that's it. >> okay. sounds easy enough. here's how i did land motu two. >> we found it really quickly.

>> this is so embarrassing. a farmer murdered by coconuts know it was about a c-plus, but that's okay. for an animated movie, all the sounds you hear have to be created by someone. for instance, the footsteps of heihei. the chicken. >> you know, he's a cute chicken. he's. he's just kind of pitter pattering. >> this is where foley artists like ronnie brown come in, finding all sorts of random objects to make every noise you hear. there's also the huge team of animators who create all the incredible visuals you see on screen. mostly stunning 3d computer animation, but with a touch of traditional hand-drawn animation. for many. maui. that little tattoo who keeps our favorite demigod in line? >> many. maui is essentially what jiminy cricket is to

little. yes, it is definitely chilly out there, no doubt about it. and kristen and karina, you're going to need to bundle up tonight because we're in for another cold one. let me show you another stunning view. this is from our sky star camera on fisherman's in the fisherman's wharf area on the skystar wheel you can see absolutely gorgeous view right now as we take a look at a live picture from golden gate. clear skies there, but it's not clear everywhere. we do have some high clouds out there. this morning it was cold. 31, in santa rosa. look at fairfield, 28 degrees. it was down to 33. in livermore, san francisco, oakland, in the 40s. san jose down to 37 degrees. now, here's the deal for the rest of your evening. going into tomorrow morning. high clouds 40s 50s this evening. if you are stepping out, definitely grab that jacket because it is going to get chilly as we head towards tomorrow morning. 30s and 40s looking at live doppler seven. seeing a lot more high cloud cover in association with this system. well, to our southwest. it's not going to bring us any rain, but it will send us some more

clouds, so we'll continue to see an increase in that. look at this lovely view from our pier 39 camera right now. you can see those clouds, 50s from san francisco to oakland, redwood city, you're at 58 and half moon bay, 55 degrees from our okay camera right now. another gorgeous post. sunset sky temperatures in the 50s for everyone. 48 fairfield, right now 51. in livermore. if you are flying out of okay, here's a look at the forecast 62 tomorrow afternoon. it's going to be dry, so no delays to report from there. now, in terms of the weather for the hawaiian islands in the 80s, lihue will see the possibility of a few showers tonight and tomorrow night. cold again with frost this weekend. morning fog followed by milder afternoons. and next week we are talking about warmer weather with above average temperatures. looking at the morning before the sun comes up, numbers are going to fall into the 30s and 40s by 330 in the afternoon. though pretty nice looking day, 50s and 60s. you'll continue to see the clouds filtering the sunshine throughout the day. now your morning temperatures in the 30s and
