fight against hiv and aids. the work that still lies ahead and skirmishes, fights and all out brawls. no love lost between certain schools over college football's rivalry weekend. abc seven news at five starts now. >> from abc seven live. breaking news right away to that breaking news. >> less than 30 minutes ago, word that president joe biden has pardoned his son, hunter biden. that pardon comes months after hunter biden pleaded guilty to federal tax charges on the same day that jury selection in his trial was scheduled to begin. now, the decision marks a reversal for the president, who had said he would not use his executive authority to pardon his son or commute his sentence. hunter biden was scheduled to be sentenced in december. now in issuing that pardon, the president issued a statement that reads in part, no reasonable person who looks at the facts of hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion. that hunter was

singled out only because he is my son and that is wrong. it goes to on say, quote, there has been an effort to break hunter in trying to break hunter. they've tried to break me and there is no reason to believe it will stop here. enough is enough. much more coverage ahead. in the meantime, thanks so much for joining us i'm dion lim. concerns tonight in response to an effort to eliminate fe parking spaces in parts of san francisco. the sfmta first implemented this plan in parts of the hayes valley neighborhood in 2022. people with street parking permits aren't affected, but free parking spaces for others were turned into metered spaces. sfmta now wants to expand the project tohat second highlighted area. you see it in blue parts of the marina and union street. abc7 news reporter lena howland says some business owners and neighbors are pushing back. >> michael aldridge grew upn san francisco's lower haight. he owns a business on haight street, but says this is still a

primarily residential area. >> we have two hour zones and no meters whatsoever because this is, you know, people live here. >> sfmta is proposing a plan to convert some parking in marina, cow hollow and the union street corridor from two hour residential parking permit zones to pay or permit parking. that means parking will still be free for residents with permits, but visitors without a permit would now have to pay up. no parking spaces would be removed. in a release meant to clear up confusion about the plan, they say this is intended to make it easier for residents and visitors to park, where visitor demand is very high. >> i don't see how really that's going to kind of increase our business here. other than, you know, people just either going to get more tickets from from meter maids because they don't have their meters full, or, you know, that money is going to stay at the city. >> we don't need more turnover. we have adequate parking. what we need is to not charge people.

francisco. lena howland, abc seven news. >> happening now the holiday travel rush is back on. taking a live look now at san francisco international airport, where things are going smoothly so far and in fact, all four bay area airports are showing no major delays or cancellations. we like to hear that at sfo, the airport is expecting 6.3 million travelers to pass through between thanksgiving and new year's day. that's a 15% increase over last year. today, this was the horseshoe and what it looked like. you see that steady stream of cars flowing in to drop off and pick up fliers. the wait is well worth it for travelers who yearn for precious moments during the holidays. >> first family. second. the dolphins game we went to, and third, probably the sweet potato marshmallows. >> those are all three good reasons. >> i love that kids picks. the crowds and lines were manageable at mineta san jose as well. sjc expects

today to be one of the busiest days of the season. the same goes for oakland's airport, where 340,000 passengers are expected to pass through okay over this holiday weekend. now, across the u.s, heavy snow has created hazardous driving conditions across the east coast and great lakes region. a lake effect snow warning is in effect from cleveland to buffalo, where driving has become treacherous and downright impossible for many. >> we're using front end loaders, backhoes, skid steers, anything. we have to remove snow to at least get one side of the street open. >> despite the heavy snow, there have been no major problems reported at the nation's airports. the faa is using special airspace designated for military use off the atlantic and gulf of mexico for commercial flights to alleviate some of the busyness in the skies. all right. moving to on forecast where there is a spare, the air alert in effect tomorrow. let's get to meteorologist shayla girn

with more on this. >> shayla. good evening. a really beautiful day out there today, but we are dealing with some air quality concerns as we head into the rest of your evening and your monday. so spare the air alert. still in effect, the north bay. also the santa clara valley dealing with poor air quality out there this evening. and as we head into tomorrow, you can see the north bay along the coast and again, the santa clara valley going to be dealing with that poor air quality. so just something to keep in mind if you're out and about tomorrow, but otherwise nice conditions out there to start off your week. we do have some cloud cover, of course. rolling back on in this evening, the coast dipping overnight into the 50s, and then tomorrow morning to start the day. you'll see temperatures in the 40s with some highs making it to the 60s by tomorrow afternoon. the bay also going to see those cool conditions. so overnight lows you'll make it to the 50s as well. and then look at tomorrow morning. we are still talking about temperatures in the 40s. so it is going to be a morning to have the jacket have the layers handy. and the nice warm conditions by the afternoon inland spots. you might not need that jacket once you get into your

monday afternoon temperatures tomorrow, making it to the 60s as well. now we do have some really warm conditions as we head into your workweek. a nice warm start to your december. i'll break it alln in that full forecast, but for now, i'll toss it back to you. >> all right. sounds good. shayla. thanks. now, with many bay area cities struggling to pay the bills, there's a bright spot in the north bay. the city of napa says it expects to have a $4.6 million surplus going into next year. that's according to the press democrat. that's after the city brought in more revenue than expected, and the city spent less than projected. those numbers need to be audited before the city can decide how to spend those extra funds. well, people gathered in san francisco to honor world aids day at the national aids memorial grove. unsung hero awards were given to two people who did important community work. one of them was vince chrysostomos, who has dedicated his adult life to giving voices to the disadvantaged. >> you know, hiv covid those things can be treated, but it's the things like it doesn't bring back the trans person. it doesn't guarantee

bay avenue and hamilton drive ignited just before three yesterday afternoon. no one was hurt, but crews say the fire inside one unit led to smoke and water damage to two other apartments. the red cross is providing fire victims temporary housing. no word yet on what sparked that blaze. well, cyber monday doesn't technically start until tomorrow, hence the name. but you can already get a head start on scoring a deal. amazon and walmart are among many major retailers offering up their cyber monday specials today.

and shoppers, they are looking for those deals. 39% of people questioned in a new national retail federation survey say they n to shop on cyber monday. that's more than 72 million people. shoppers already clicked their way to an online record for black friday spending, racking up $10.8 billion in purchases. that's up more than 10% over last year, according to adobe analytics. now, many shoppers are choosing the buy now, pay later option, accounting for more than $686 million in online sales. state lawmakers are expected to talk sports tomorrow. they'll be championing a legacy. we'll learn about a push by legislators to get a raiders legend inducted into the pro football hall of fame. and taking a live look outside. oh, isn't that pretty? we are enjoying some seasonable, well, i guess unseasonably warm weather. we'll find out how long it will last.

and ohio, $100,000 each. after players from both teams had a postgame brawl on the field after yesterday's game. it was one of several college football brawls yesterday, after teams planted their flags on the home field of their rivals after winning an unsportsmanlike gesture by the wolverines. >> unnecessary. >> they've won the game now. >> michigan won in columbus, but when the wolverines tried planting the big m into ohio stadium turf, you see it there. buckeyes players confronted their opponents, pushing, shoving, even throwing punches. police used pepper spray on the field to break up that fight. the conference said the brawl was unsportsmanlike.

>> this is our field and certainly, you know, we're embarrassed with the fact that we lost the game. but, you know, there's some prideful guys on this team that weren't just going to let that happen. >> now, a similar brawl broke out between north carolina state and unc. fighting erupted when arizona state tried planting their sun devils pitchfork in arizona's home turf. then there was another fight between florida and florida state in the sunshine state showdown. well, there is a push in sacramento this weekend to get. raiders legend and san jose native jim plunkett into the pro football hall of fame. south bay state senator dave cortese is leading that charge. he plans to introduce a resolution tomorrow, urging the selection committee to make plunkett part of next year's hall of fame class. plunkett is now 76 and he graduated from stanford and won a heisman after leading the team to a rose bowl victory in 1970. he also led the raiders to two super bowl victories. all right,

moving on. we are in for a mild start to the week. we have. meteorologist shayla gerardin with the forecast. when we return. >> oh actually we have some nice cool conditions ahead. if you're going to be out and about this sunday evening. so temperatures starting off in the 60s. we'll see them cooling down to the 50s pretty quickly with more of that cloud cover building in overnight. as we head into early tomorrow morning. some spots even making it to the 40s. so a chilly start to your monday out there. overall though, a nice pattern as we head into the next couple of days. so we have those cool and cloudy conditions tonight. we just spoke of again that spare the air alert going to be in place for the rest of this evening and as you head into tomorrow. so we are dealing with poor air quality for many areas. just something to keep in mind if you're going to be out and about tomorrow, try to minimize that time outdoors and then the rest of the week we're talking about a dry pattern ahead is going to be warm. to start off the month of december, we are talking about above average conditions over the next several days. so here's that

cloud cover we talked about rolling in tonight. and then by tomorrow morning we'll still see those cloudy and cool conditions with a mix of sun and clouds, especially for inland spots. by the time we get to tomorrow afternoon. and then overall pretty similar pattern as we head into your workweek tuesday, wednesday, thursday. temperatures staying above average. we've of course still got that cloud cover in the mix, but by midweek a little bit more sunshine too, especially along the coast. all right. taking a look at lows this evening. here we go. it's going to be a cool one out there. 40s for most of you richmond coming in 44 degrees. concord at 42 livermore also coming in those low 40s in san jose at 48 degrees tomorrow. a nice start to your workweek. 64 for you in san francisco. definitely have the layers handy. san jose though, making it to the 70s at 72 degrees. morgan hill also in those low 70s at 72 as well. and then the rest of the area seeing temperatures tomorrow, making it into the 60s. now, you'll notice as we head into your monday and tuesday temperatures not going to change too much for us over the beginning of the week, most of us seeing highs to start the week in

the 60s again. san jose, even fremont getting very close to that 70 degree mark. but tuesday, wednesday not too much of a change. we overall have a pretty warm and dry pattern as we head into at least midweek. taking a look at your seven day forecast, i'll step out of the way here monday. we still have that spare the air alert in place, temperatures in the 60s. this is for inland spots. slight cooldown comes our way as we head into midweek, so wednesday, thursday, even into friday, we continue to see that cooling trend. you'll notice temperatures still above average through at least wednesday. then by next weekend we're talking about cooler, cloudier conditions with temperatures starting to warm up again by sunday. bay spots. you'll make it to the 70s tomorrow, dipping back into the 60s by tuesday, and then continuing to cool through saturday. finally, along the coast, you're 64 degrees tomorrow. still talking about that? spare the air of course, that will expire by tuesday with temperatures in the low 60s by thursday, that's going to be the coolest day of the week along the coast, making it to 62. then we start to see that warm up once again. and then saturday also going to be a very chilly one out there,
