warming trend as well as high pressure begins to build in and strengthen just a little bit. and as a result, with the light winds, we will have those cool mornings, some fog and a weather pattern that's just going to stick around for a while. 38 in danville, mid 40s fremont, low 50s san francisco. so certainly the chill is there from vacaville and novato dropping off into the 30s. and we are looking at our 24 hour temperature change anywhere from three degrees over in our inland valleys to about 11 to 14 from the north bay to the coast. so with that spare the air alert, moderate air quality, good at times. not too bad, but you will notice a little haze. temperatures in the low 60s today. half moon bay was 65 yesterday around the bay shore mid maybe some upper 60s today over towards oakland, san ramon and you head inland anywhere from the south bay. we're in the 70s but low 60s for you in livermore. sue. good morning lisa. >> good morning everyone. let's check your monday morning drive.

we're nice all the way into san francisco. up and over the waldo grade. even if you're driving from novato south, you're looking at a speed limit with smooth sailing and no fog over the waldo or the golden gate bridge. elsewhere, we are stacked up with the metering lights turned on at about 530 this morning. so back beyond the 880 overcrossing and a typical commute out of the central valley, already just about an hour. westbound 580 and fog over the altamont as well. highway four is slowing from antioch over towards walnut creek. and here is a look at your drive times. just like i said about an hour. tracy into dublin your morning commute looking great. and highway four. it's at a crawl into concord. >> all right, sue. thank you. breaking news here at 603. a major shakeup in silicon valley. the ceo of santa clara based intel announced his immediate retirement this morning. pat gelsinger has also stepped down from the company's board. gelsinger has been with intel for more than 40 years. he started there at just 18 and

became intel's youngest ever vp at 32. in recent years, intel has been facing intense pressure from other computer chip makers, and gelsinger has struggled to deliver on his promises. this morning, intel's board named two company executives interim co-ceos while they search for a new ceo. the board sent out a statement thanking gelsinger for his many years at intel. happening today, governor newsom and california lawmakers are beginning their so-called trump proofing sessions in sacramento. >> the governor called the special session shortly after trump won the election last month. at the time, he said it was to, quote, safeguard california values and fundamental rights in the face of the incoming trump administration. the governor also said the special session will focus on bolstering legal resources to protect civil rights, reproductive freedom, climate action and immigrant families. during trump's first term, california filed more than 120 lawsuits. action taken during the special session would take effect in the new year, shortly before trump is sworn

in. but whatever the governor and the legislature comes up with, they'll be likely facing a legal fight. >> that's because the president elect has made it clear he has no plans to allow california to serve as the resistance state. during his second term. trump posted on social media, quote, governor gavin newsom is trying to kill our nation's beautiful california. adding he is using the term trump proof as a way of stopping all of the great things that can be done to make california great again. but i just overwhelmingly won the election. >> abc seven news reporter monica madden will be at the state capitol today to cover the special session. you can watch her coverage on abc seven news this afternoon that starts at 4 p.m, and we'll have updates as they happen on our abc seven bay area apps and abc seven news.com. happening today in the east bay, oakland unified leaders will meet again to figure out how to tackle the district's $95 million budget deficit. the school board has been considering a number of options. you might remember last month the idea of school closures was back on the table.

a hiring freeze, eliminating positions and restructuring. some departments are also being considered. the board is scheduled to finalize cuts and begin implementing changes at its meeting next week. >> president biden has pardoned his son, hunter biden, months after hunter biden pleaded guilty to federal tax charges. the decision marks a reversal for the president, who had said he would not use his executive authority to pardon his son or commute his sentence. in issuing the pardon, the president also issued a statement that reads in part no reasonable person who looks at the facts of hunter's cases can reach any other conclusion than hunter was singled out only because he is my son, and that is wrong. it goes on to say there has been an effort to break hunter in trying to break hunter. they've tried to break me and there's no reason to believe it will stop here. enough is enough. >> happening today, the court could hear closing arguments in the nearly two month long trial of the man accused of killing san francisco tech mogul and cash app founder bob lee. the

jury could get the case as early as this afternoon in the trial of nima momeni. prosecutors say momeni stabbed lee in the chest during some sort of confrontation in the soma neighborhood in april of last year. momeni testified he acted in self defense after lee attacked him. >> now to an incredible story out of antioch. a pastor takes on a would be burglar at his church and makes a citizen's arrest. antioch police say the man used an ax to break a window at the first family church on thanksgiving morning. that triggered an alarm and the pastor raced over. he came face to face with the suspect and used his years of jiu jitsu training to wrestle the man to the ground and restrain him. >> what i didn't want to see is just him run off and then come back later and rob us again. you can find that sometimes there becomes a pattern where you get victimized a lot. if you don't do anything to stand up for yourself. >> police say the would be burglar was trying to take some tools and some leftover food. he remains in custody. >> a live look at sfo now.

triple a says the holiday travel rush at the airport should be calmer today. the roads will still be very busy as people are coming back from thanksgiving getaways across the country. the weather has been a big headache for people trying to fly home. there were thousands of delays at airports yesterday. sfo expects 6.3 million travelers to pass through between thanksgiving and new year's day. that is a 15% increase compared to last year. abc seven news saw a steady stream of cars heading to the airport yesterday to drop off and pick up fliers in the south bay. the crowds and lines were pretty manageable on mineta san jose international airport, and the same goes for oakland's airport, where an estimated 340,000 passengers passed through over the holiday weekend. >> and right now, many of you are getting ready for the workweek after the thanksgiving holiday weekend. but the big deal today is cyber monday deals and savings are already enticing shoppers online, and companies are hoping to cash in on what is expected to be a record setting day. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez is live in

milpitas at amazon's new delivery station. that's ready just in time for the rush of online orders. good morning gloria. >> good morning. right now i'm in. one of the delivery trucks is used for training, so we know a lot of us are going to be shopping on this cyber monday. so they will be loading up trucks like this one to get out for those holiday gifts. and of course, they are expecting a very busy day today. they're expecting to have nearly double the volume that they normally have. and we have an employee here with us this morning, stephanie bicknell, who will be talking to us. i understand you're one of the seasonal employees. they have over 100 seasonal employees at this location alone. so what is it like being a seasonal employee? what do you do here? >> so i'm actually on pick and we also do stow. so a little bit about pick is the packages come down from the conveyor belts and we pick to buffer for our stores which are stores will put them in the colorful boxes for us to pick and stage on our u-boats for the delivery drivers to bring to our customers.

>> and stephanie, i know you've worked as a seasonal worker before, so why do you like to do this seasonal work? >> what i like about amazon a lot is they pay. they do pay really well and it's a stable job. like, i know if i need something for the seasonal time, a little extra money for christmas, i know i can come here, get about ten hours a day sometimes. they definitely give us ot on the peak season. so that's really nice for around christmas time as well. >> so extra money for the holidays. yes, that's always good. so they were saying that this was their biggest black friday yet. did you already see that impact? i know it just happened, but in terms of more deliveries and stuff. >> oh, for sure. especially yesterday because we had carts just full of packages everywhere. and once we got down to like 9:00, we had to get everything ready for the delivery trucks and the packages were just still coming in. and i was like, it is black friday time and cyber monday today is going to be even busier probably. >> yes, definitely. >> it's you can tell by working in the delivery station that everyone is buying off of amazon this year for sure. >> awesome. well, stephanie,

cisco drivers are fuming over a proposal to charge for parking in one of the city's densest residential neighborhoods tonight. residents will be able to voice their opinion to the city's transportation authority, the municipal transportation agency wants to convert street parking spots in parts of the marina, cow hollow and union street into metered spots. residents in the areas can apply for a residential parking permit so they can avoid paying and time limits. some business owners and neighbors we spoke with not so pleased with this proposal. expanding that program out into the residential blocks.

i mean, i guess it produces incremental revenue for mta, but that's the only benefit. and that money comes from the pockets of people who don't have a lot of money. the sfmta sent abc7 a statement saying, quote, this is intended to make it easier for residents and visitors to park, where visitor demand is very high. tonight, the city is hosting an open house that's at 5 p.m. at the moscone rec center, where residents can voice their opinions with many bay area cities struggling to pay the bills, there is a bright spot in the north bay, and it's the city of napa. they expect to have a $4.6 million surplus going into next year. that's according to the press democrat. the city brought in more revenue than expected, and the city spent less than projected. those numbers need to be audited before the city can decide how they're going to spend the extra funds. it is down to the wire for an east bay toy drive. they desperately need your help this holiday season. it's the 18th year for oakland chinatown's

christmas in the park toy drive. volunteers partner up with the oakland chinatown chamber and other organizations to gather the toys and distribute them to needy families. in years past, organizers say they would gather 2 to 300 toys by this time. right now, they only have ten toys. >> it made me feel so heartbroken. i was i was crying because i didn't, i didn't want, i didn't know what to do. i don't want kids to, you know, be be left out, be disappointed. i was willing to use my own own money to buy more present for the kids and just eat, you know, instant noodles for like, you know, for a month, you know, just so the kids can have something for the holidays. >> the toy giveaway is still planned for december 7th. if you want to help out the last day to drop off toys so they can be wrapped is december 5th at the lincoln recreation center in oakland. for more info on how to

get involved, just go to our website. that's abc7 news.com. a tree lighting ceremony kicked off san francisco's second entertainment zone over the weekend at thrive center at thrive city at chase center. guess who was there? >> i emceed the event. it was so much fun. montell jordan, he told me that i reminded him of christmas. yes, i said montell jordan, known for his hit song this is how we do it. he was the headliner and warriors legend festus ezeli. he made a special appearance as well. >> it's really nice in this area. there's always things going on, so it's great to come here, especially for the holiday season and have something like going on and like have all of this like entertaining things, especially with the toddler. >> the thrive city entertainment zone is located in the area. this is right outside chase center. during certain special events like the tree lighting, people are able to buy alcoholic drinks from participating businesses and then just enjoy them in that outdoor area. and

seen it before where we have a lot of rain, and then things really just shut off. so as we look at live doppler seven big dome of high pressure protecting us and sending the storm track well into british columbia as we look outside that sun coming up at 707, it is 51 downtown, 46 in oakland, 49 in hayward. good morning to you. 44, in redwood city. and from our roof camera, how pretty. we have upper 30s there in santa rosa, 37 by the delta fog. not an issue this morning. 36 in petaluma with 42 in livermore. so this is how far we've come since october, with anywhere from an inch and a third to nearly 16in of rain with our atmospheric river a couple weeks ago. so that brings us from 55% of average in oakland to over 294%. so the north bay really big winner. san francisco, 127% of average and without any rain in sight. the next nine days or so. obviously, we're not adding to those totals. but, you know, we're

following president elect trump's announcement to nominate kash patel, a longtime loyalist, as the next fbi director. >> every president has the opportunity to decide who he wants to offer a nomination for. it doesn't surprise me that he will pick people that he believes are very loyal to himself. >> patel has openly discussed using the federal government to retaliate against trump's political enemies. he's also promoted conspiracy theories of a deep state and even embraced qanon. the president elect says he plans to fire current fbi director christopher wray, who still has three years left on his ten year contract. trump nominated wray to the post in 2017. an fbi spokesperson says wray's focus remains on the men and women of the fbi and protecting americans. following patel's announcement, former acting fbi director andrew mccabe, who's had a long running feud with trump and was fired by then attorney general jeff sessions, spoke with cnn.f >> it's a terrible development for the men and women of the fbi and also for the nation that

depends on a highly functioning professional, independent federal bureau of investigation. >> patel rose to prominence as an aide to former congressman devin nunes, trying to push back against the russia investigation during trump's first term. he also took top intelligence roles and briefly served as the pentagon's chief of staff in 2020. his appointment would need to be approved by the senate. in addition to patel, trump nominated charles kushner, the father in law of his daughter ivanka, as u.s. ambassador to france during the final days of his presidency. trump pardoned kushner, who was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of illegal campaign contributions, tax evasion and witness tampering. the president elect also announcing massad boulos, father in law of his daughter tiffany, as senior adviser on arab and middle eastern affairs in the final stretch of the campaign, boulos helped trump create inroads with the arab american community. christiane cordero, abc news, washington. >> and over the weekend, trump announced he would nominate sheriff chad

chronister to serve as the administrator for the drug enforcement agency. chronister is the top law enforcement officer in hillsborough county, florida, overseeing the area of tampa. he has worked closely with trump's choice for attorney general, pam bondi. >> new details about the fiery crash that killed thre college students in piedmont. officials released their names over the weekend, and they're now sharing memories from their families. shawn dixon, krista sukara and jack nelson tsukahara, excuse me. and jack nelson died when the teslajack cybertruck they were in crashed. a fourth person who was injured in the crash is still in the hospital. all were 2023 grads of piedmont high school. they were home for the thanksgiving holiday. the city released statements from the families of the three victims who died. shawn dixon was a student andscs family writes shawn lit up a room, made friends easily, and had a unique ability to make everyone feel welcome and valued. krista tsukahara was a sophomore at the

savannah college of art and design, or scad. her family says she will be remembered for her kind and sensitive heart, love for her family and friends, and for her incredible eye for style and design. and jack nelson attended the university of colorado. his family remembered his adventurous spirit, saying he, quote, cared deeply for other people and had a strong faith. he proudly shared through the cross he wore every day. we still don't know what caused this crash. the california highway patrol is investigating. and the chronicle reports the national highway traffic safety administration is also part of this investigation. >> happening today, an alameda police officer will appear in court for a preliminary hearing in the death of mario gonzalez. the years ago. eric mckinley has pleaded not guilty to charges of involuntary manslaughter for the deadly encounter at an alameda park. gonzalez died as officers pinned him to the ground while responding to the call of a man behaving strangely. gonzalez was not armed. family members are upset. a judge dropped the case

against two other officers because the district attorney missed the deadline to file charges. >> happening today, the supreme court will hear arguments in a dispute over flavored vapes and whether their sales were illegally blocked by the fda. two companies that were denied applications to sell the flavored vapes are leading this lawsuit. they argue their products help people quit traditional cigarettes. they also argue ruling against them could destroy the vaping industry. medical groups arguing against e-cigarettes, however, say the use of these by young people is a public health crisis. on wednesday, one of the highest profile cases of this term will reach the supreme court. the justices will hear arguments for tennessee's ban on gender affirming care to transgender patients under the age of 18. three trans teens and their parents are challenging the law through federal court. the biden administration joined their case, arguing a constitutional infringement on equal protection. decisions in both cases are expected by june of next year. >> a season marked by debate and

national attention for the san jose state women's volleyball team may be over for match point, and the championship. >> and it's an ace for colorado state, wasn't there. >> the spartans lost to colorado state saturday in the finals of the mountain west conference tournament. sdsu season has been marked by forfeits, protests and a lawsuit centered on gender identity. several schools forfeited games against the spartans, claiming there was a transgender player on san jose state's team who should be blocked from competing. the university and the player have never said how they identify. >> i don't want to talk necessarily about the way we played. i want to talk about how proud i am of them. they fought all the way through the end. they showed a lot of heart. they showed a lot of desire. they showed a lot of moxie. they showed a lot of character throughout the season. i don't think any of those things can be taken for granted. >> a lawsuit was recently filed
