symbol of the city untouchable. >> plus, open tables, top restaurants, five bay area spots landing in the top 100 list and two of them have snagged a spot for the fourth year in a row. >> good morning to you. it is tuesday, december 3rd, and we'll start with a check of our forecast with drew. >> yeah, it's looking fantastic. today we have sunshine. we have warm temperatures this afternoon. it's a live look outside this morning with our sutro tower camera. we see the sparkling lights of the city, the east bay hills way off in the background, and we have clear skies all ahead. so here's a live look at live doppler seven along with satellite. we've kind of carved out a real nice slice of weather here today. we have sunshine this afternoon. temperatures going above average in the 60s and in the 70. some high clouds across southern california. those will stay away from us today. temperatures this morning where we do have light winds. we have clear skies. that's a recipe for some cold numbers in our valleys like sonoma danville in the 30s. good morning, san francisco 49. it's 46 right now in san jose.
6:02 am
so looking at the hour by hour forecast along the coast, just beautiful sunny skies, temperatures in the low 60s, even warmer around the bay shoreline. bright today, upper 60s to near 70 degrees. a few records are possible and even inland it's looking very nice. above average warmth, sunny skies and temperatures in the 60s. let's check in with gloria. see those drive times this morning? >> good morning. traffic. definitely starting to build here in the bay area. and you could see a live look at our bay bridge toll plaza. camera metering lights came on about a half hour ago, and it is starting to get pretty packed out there. so if you are driving, just know that it's backed up to west grand avenue at this time of the morning. from highway four to san francisco will take you 46 minutes and looking live at our san jose 87 camera in the south bay, traffic is starting to get a little heavy on highway 87. also is starting to clog up on highway 101, so keep that in mind. amanda. all right. >> gloria, thank you. in the south bay, an upsetting decision for dozens of families or multiple families who go to dozens of schools. leaders in
6:03 am
alum rock union school district voted to close, merge, or cut grades at a dozen schools. and you can see the impacted campuses on your screen. the vote last night was unanimous. despite a vocal group of community members who demanded other options to close a big budget gap. abc seven news reporter lena howland joins us this morning with reaction. lena. >> amanda. after months of different proposals, the board of trustees made their final decision to close a total of six of those impacted schools and consolidate three. we were there as parents, teachers and community members tried to advocate against the decisions to close or combine schools for more than two hours. at last night's school board meeting this comes as the district is faced with a $20 million budget deficit. the alum rock union school district created a community committee with parents like lisa tuthill to weigh in on how they can budget $10 million in savings for the 2024 school year and the following school year. >> they looked at our proposal
6:04 am
and said, oh, well, you didn't meet the $10 million, which their proposal didn't either. i'm not just an angry parent. i have looked at this very strategically, along with a lot of the other parents and it doesn't make sense. and it's very clear that it's very political. >> and this isn't the first time the district has made the difficult decision to close schools. members of the mayfair community, made of working class and immigrant families, will now have just one elementary school because the district has already closed schools there. these changes could go into effect as early as next school year. live in studio lena howland, abc seven news. >> all right, lena, thank you. and the east bay. there are also budget issues for oakland schools. district leaders met yesterday to talk about how to tackle a $95 million budget deficit. next week, the oakland unified board will finalize cuts. the board is considering a number of options, including school closures, a hiring freez, eliminating positions and
6:05 am
restructuring. >> today, defense attorneys will give their closing arguments in the trial over the killing of cash app founder bob lee. nima momeni is accused of stabbing lee to death in san francisco in april of last year. prosecutors say he stabbed lee after his sister claimed she had been drugged and sexually assaulted by a drug dealer. she met while with lee. they say momeni then tried to hide the knife by throwing it over a fence. lee's brother was in court yesterday during the prosecution's closing arguments. >> i think dave did a great job of summing up this case and really putting it in perspective and really drawing in what the facts are of this case. >> momeni claims the stabbing was self-defense, and that lee is the person who came at him with a knife. he faces 26 years to life if convicted of murder. >> new developments in the deadly stabbing near the embarcadero. bart station last month. san francisco district attorney brooke jenkins says she will not bring charges against
6:06 am
the accused killer. jenkins said that while police had probable cause in making the arrest, her office cannot prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the suspect did not act in self-defense. >> it's official the san francisco federal building is now the speaker, nancy pelosi. federal building. congressional leaders, past mayors, and the building architect attended the celebration yesterday. the 18 storey tower in soma, now a tribute to the woman who has represented the city for 37 years in congress. >> for me to have a building named. speaker nancy pelosi saying to the people of san francisco, your representative was the speaker of the house, the first woman, first californian speaker of the house really fills me with great emotion. i'm very proud of that. >> last year, many building workers work from home as much as possible because of safety and crime concerns in the area. some say the area is dramatically cleaned up. others say the illegal activity just moved blocks away, a symbol of
6:07 am
san francisco will keep rolling despite a budget shortfall. >> we're talking about the cable cars. of course, the city's mayor elect, daniel lurie, posted on social media that some things are untouchable and the cable cars are here to stay. lurie says they are part of san francisco's economic recovery. earlier this year, we reported the san francisco municipal transit authority was considering suspending some cable car lines due to a looming muni budget deficit. >> we'll take a look at the accuweather forecast. it's just going to be a really nice day out there. live doppler seven along with satellite. we're pressing pause on the storms this week and potentially through next week. so we're looking at about a two week pattern where sunshine is really the main factor of the forecast above average temperatures. in fact, today we could have a few records as daytime highs in our warmest areas go into the low 70s. here's a look at future weather. let's go hour by hour for you. here's 9 a.m. you want a couple of layers this morning because we're starting out in
6:08 am
the 30s and 40s, but by 9 a.m. we have 40s and 50s on the board. later on this afternoon, it's full sunshine, just really pleasant. hard to ask for better weather in the start of december. 60s on the board with a few areas going into the low 70s, and we'll keep those clear skies even through the evening. a little bit of patchy cloud cover along the coast during that time, but no widespread fog is expected the next 24 hours. looking at the forecast today, temperatures ranging from the low 60s to the low seconds. lots of sunshine, light winds, just a nice warm afternoon on the way. overnight tonight we will find our typically chilly spots in our sheltered valleys in the upper 30s, widespread 40s around the bay shoreline with clear skies and again, those winds do remain light. so looking at the next three days, get used to the sunshine, the dry pattern, the mild temperatures today, tomorrow and into thursday will keep it nice and pleasant over the weekend, though we do find cloudier and some cooler weather. amanda, we'll show you that on the seven-day coming up in about nine minutes. >> all right, drew, thank you.

milk here in california. state officials have now suspended the distribution of raw milk bottled by a company called raw firm raw farm. bird flu was detected in samples of the milk, but so far there have been no reports of anyone getting sick. raw farm sells to more than 450 locations across the state. consumers have been warned not to drink the raw milk. and this morning, there's a new twist in a battle over geese on the peninsula. we've been following the situation in foster city for several years now. the city has been trying to get rid of a big population of canadian geese that have overrun some parks. and gloria, there's now a new plan to get these geese to leave. >> there is amanda. the plan, approved by the city council last night, involves making the geese so uncomfortable that they decide to leave on their own. experts are calling it habitat modification, and they say it should happen as soon as possible. the process could change the look of park areas in nearby lagoons, for example, the city could cover fences that
6:13 am
surround beaches so the geese can't see the water from the park area. >> you need to take away both the land and the water as a safe space, so that they don't just go from the land to the water, and then when you leave, they come back to the land you want the whole area to be unsafe. >> and the city could also use loud noises, drones, or even dogs to scare the geese away. while many support these ideas, some would like the city to kill the geese. that idea was on the table two years ago, but it never happened because a lot of people complained about it. so what happens next? well, the city will start testing methods to get the geese to leave. the council will meet again in two months to vote on a full-scale plan, and the funding that's needed for it. amanda. all right. >> gloria, thank you. the national park service announced it will remove a controversial fence that kept hundreds of tule elk confined to the tip of point reyes national seashore. the fence has been up since 1978. animal rights advocates supported removing the fence to allow the elk to roam more
6:14 am
freely. ranchers wanted to keep the fence to prevent the elk from competing with their cattle for food. removal of a two mile section of the fence could begin as early as next week. thanksgiving. it's done now. many people are focused on getting ready for christmas this year. we have fewer days than usual to get our shopping done, and that's left some shoppers and small businesses feeling the christmas crunch. online retailers are taking advantage. they reported a record breaking haul for shopping during cyber monday. here's a look at those numbers. adobe analytics estimates people spent as much as $13.5 billion yesterday, marking the biggest online shopping day of all time. that's in addition to 10.8 billion spent on black friday. 40 billion have been spent, $40 billion has been spent during cyber week, which is the five day period between thanksgiving and yesterday in san francisco. leaders are encouraging people to take some of their money offline and into local shops. >> i think we really haven't. we
6:15 am
still haven't completely recovered from covid. i think all of our neighborhoods are feeling, you know, the sort of the loss of tourism dollars. a lot of folks are spending more time outside the city. >> according to business owners, the past black friday weekend treated them well. >> i'm hearing great news from other merchants that had really good weekends when they're normally a little sleepy for them after thanksgiving, if you haven't started your holiday shopping yet, you have just about three weeks to get it all done before christmas arrives. >> the bay area proud to have a diverse food scene, and now five spots have something to celebrate. this morning after making open tables. top 100 restaurants in the country for the fourth year in a row, san francisco's house of prime rib and greek restaurant kokkari made the list. two others in the city made the list for kings, a hong kong style small plates restaurant, and the progress, a michelin starred restaurant. palo alto is a sister restaurant of kokkari, also nabbed a spot.
6:16 am
opentable created a list based on insight from user reviews. congrats. that's cool. >> that's amazing. nothing says the holidays like house of prime rib. i swear i go there all the time and it's always in december. >> do you make your reservations? >> oh yeah. yeah. when are you? >> months, months in advance? i mean, in the summertime. you're calling them being like, are you taking december yet? oh no, not yet. you're on it. you got to be. it's a place to be. it is packed in december. it's fun. >> i've never been what i. no, i haven't either i know. >> oh, you want a holly jolly time, is that right? >> is it, is it fa la la. >> oh, it's decked out. >> it's really fun. okay. yeah. delicious. i can smell it already. well, i'll make reservations for next year. now, now. right now. no, i'm not calling for this month. >> no, 2025. yeah. oh yes. for sure. this morning. let's go to our east bay hills. camera it is clear out there. it is chilly in spots in the 30s and in the 40s right now. looking at the accuweather headlines, we're calling for a dry pattern continuing this weekend likely through next week. so looking at
6:17 am
two weeks of sunshine, warm temperatures, that's how it's shaping up over the next several days. yesterday we felt a bit of it. today we could have a few record highs as some of our warmest areas go into the 70s. now. the weekend outlook will introduce a few clouds from time to time. it is a little bit cooler, but still saturday and sunday we keep the dry pattern going out there. right now, pretty much a mixed bag of 30s and 40s. so we do have that cold air overhead currently a couple of layers needed this morning, but by the afternoon you can take off most of those layers because temperatures will feel very pleasant. here's the day planner sunrise at 709 this morning. it's clear and chilly early on, but we get that warm sunshine later on this afternoon and those daytime highs in the 60s and in the 70s, a high of 71 in san jose today. lots of sunshine, 67 in oakland, the city hitting 65 with light winds later on this afternoon. 70 in santa rosa, 68 in livermore, san mateo up to 66 degrees overnight. tonight we keep clear skies out there. and again, temperatures dipping to 30s and
6:18 am
into the 40s. future tracker temperature shows you tomorrow pretty much a carbon copy forecast with temperatures in the 60s and in the 70s. a similar story on wednesday. we'll do it again on thursday. so there's little change to the forecast day to day this week. in fact, look at the temperature outlook. the climate prediction center showing much of the u.s. featuring above average temperatures for this week. now we're talking not only this week, but this is going through next week through the 12th of december. and you zoom on in to california. you see a lot of bright colors on the screen right now, and that's where we'll find some of the warmest temperatures over the next two weeks. a high chance of keeping those temperatures in the 60s and in the 70s for the first two weeks of december, the next chance of any sort of rain likely coming next weekend. we're talking around the 14th, 15th or 16th, so enjoy the dry weather. we'll get some warm temperatures through the week. here's the accuweather seven day forecast showing you december warmth today. we'll keep those above average temperatures here.
6:19 am
tomorrow. the dry pattern continues thursday and into friday. now over the weekend saturday you'll find some cloudier skies, some cooler weather, but we keep it dry both saturday and into sunday. sunday is going to be the brighter of the two days and even early next week we'll keep those bright skies and temperatures cooler near average for this time of year. guys. >> thank you drew. now we're going to bring in ginger zee with a look at what's happening on gma. >> yeah good morning ginger. >> yeah reggie amanda great to be with you. coming up here on gma. we will start with the investigation into that airport security breach. everybody's obsessed with this story around here. it was all during the height of holiday travel. the new video now shows the stowaway who was discovered traveling from new york to paris. and gio is going to have the latest on her return. also, the new developments in the jonbenet ramsey murder investigation cannot believe we are learning more here about that unsolved case of the child pageant queen found dead that has grabbed headlines for decades, and james van der beek will be with us here in times square. it's his first live tv interview since announcing his cancer diagnosis.
