have more information before we start our investigation. >> tomorrow marks one week since a deadly tesla cybertruck crash claimed the lives of three college students and injured a fourth in piedmont. and today, police said it may be several weeks before officers begin conducting interviews to find out what happened. in the hours before that deadly crash. good evening. thanks for being here. i'm julian glover and i'm dan ashley. >> a spokesperson for the department also says investigators plan to work closely with chp partners so that interviews are not duplicated. that's in an effort to be cautious of the trauma that this tragedy has obviously caused. >> abc seven news reporter leslie brinkley was in piedmont today and has the latest. >> i just feel for their families. i feel for the community. i can't imagine what these parents are going through. >> among the personal notes and plates of food and scorched debris at the crash site, there is palpable grief among those who come to pay their respects to the three friends jack nelso,

sean dickson and krista tsukahara. all 2023 piedmont high school grads who came home from college for the thanksgiving holiday and died here the night before in a fiery crash. the tesla cybertruck they rode in veered off a four lane residential road and slammed into a retaining wall and tree as it erupted in flames. a fourth student survives in the hospital in stable condition. >> this is where their life ended in this exact location. >> one member of the community told me that a second car load of young people came upon the accident scene almost immediately after it happened, and heard cries for help from inside the burning vehicle. police were able to confirm that one of those people helped pull out the sole survivor. police are still waiting for a toxicology report from the coroner's office and a collision report from chp. >> they will probably look at everything related to the vehicle and try to make some

determinations on what may have caused the accident, that more than likely may include a complete review of maybe any electronic information that's in the car. anything else related to the car, and then some of the crash dynamics. >> it will be several weeks before that information is available and at that point, police will begin piecing together what happened leading up to the tragedy. >> we probably would start with interviewing those people that might have been with the occupants of the vehicle before the collision, and try to back trace maybe where they were and what they were doing prior to the collision. >> one funeral is now set for late december at a local church in piedmont. i'm leslie brinkley, abc seven news. >> new details are emerging after a man was mauled to death by three 100 pound dogs in the east bay. we're now learning the owner tried to give up the dogs before the attack. the incident happened in oakland's fruitvale district back in september. according to our media partner, the mercury news, an animal

control officer testified yesterday that the owner, 58 year old brendan burke, knew that he was unable to manage those dogs. the officer told the court burke had even considered euthanizing them months before they killed his friend. the dogs were half cane corso, half napoleon mastiff. all three were put down after the attack. an alameda county judge has ordered burke to stand trial on a single felony charge of failing to control animals, killing a human. >> closing arguments continue today in the murder trial for cashapp founder bob lee nimmo. he is accused of stabbing and killing lee april of last year. abc seven news reporter melanie woodrow has been following the story from the very beginning. she was in court throughout the day, joining us live now with the latest. melanie julian nimmo many defense attorneys had their chance today to persuade jurors defense attorney sam zanganeh appealed to jurors. >> common sense making argument after argument, attempting to introduce doubt into the

government's case. the most powerful punch coming at the end of his closing arguments, as he showed jurors surveillance video of bob lee and his friend bo moazzami outside the downtown social club. the battery in that video, zanganeh suggested you could see lee allegedly doing drugs off of an object that looked to be the same size as the knife, the murder weapon in this case. adding to the defense's theory that it was bob lee who pulled a knife on nima momeni and not the other way around. defense attorney sam zanganeh even produced a cardboard knife today that he demonstrated to jurors to show the size. zanganeh hammered to jurors that the government's motive for the stabbing doesn't make sense, that momeni killed bob lee because his friend and drug dealer, jeremy boivin, allegedly touched his sister's behind. zanganeh also poked holes in sfpd's investigation for not speaking to an unhoused man near the crime scene, not speaking to the driver of a white vehicle, lee attempted to flag down, not examining the

blood splatter at the scene. the defense attorney suggested that their theory is more plausible that mo money making that bad joke, saying something about lee not spending time with his family. seven months after he moved away from his children wasn't an easy pill for lee to swallow, and that he got mad during the rebuttal closing argument, prosecutor omid talai said that if the object lee was allegedly doing drugs off of was the knife in question, why wasn't his dna on the handle? he also reminded jurors that all three character witnesses testified they never saw bob lee with a knife. telling jurors zanganeh is trying to distract them with things that aren't true. concluding his rebuttal by saying to the jurors, help bob by following the law and using your common sense. do not let him get away with it. >> bob never carried a knife, and he would never do coke off of a knife. right? it's just it's insane to me. right. and that bring that out. and you saw

that was part of the theatrics that we saw. >> he's holding the same exact shape, size of the knife that was found outside of the caltrans parking lot. why is the knife so? why is why isn't his dna? >> why is there no dna on the handle? >> i don't know, you know what? listen, let me tell you. dna doesn't. it's not always on things. >> jurors will receive their final instructions tomorrow after approximately six weeks of testimony. a change here for those jurors. a juror was out sick today and was replaced by an alternate. reporting live outside of the hall of justice in san francisco. melanie woodrow, abc seven news. all right. >> melanie, thanks very much. new developments in san mateo county, where today the board of supervisors approved a special election that, if also approved by voters, would grant supervisors the ability to remove the embattled sheriff. abc seven news reporter monica madden is here with the latest information. monica. >> dan. if voters approved the charter amendment in march, it

would allow the san mateo county board of supervisors to remove the sheriff if that person violates the following circumstances. quote any law related to the performance of sheriff's duties. flagrant or repeated neglect of the sheriff's duties, misappropriation of public fund, willful falsification of official statements or documents, or obstruction of any investigation into the conduct of a sheriff and supervisors believe that sheriff cristina corpus has committed many of these things. facing allegations of abuse of power and mounting calls to resign. san mateo county sheriff cristina corpus job is now on the line. >> the voters will inform themselves and they will make educated votes. >> the board of supervisors tuesday handing the baton to the people of san mateo county. they'll vote in march whether or not to let the board remove the sheriff from office. >> we see this level of dysfunction in our sheriff's office. what does that mean for your everyday resident supervisors defending the matter? >> as urgent? >> why now? because this matter

continues to harm people in the sheriff's office. >> all of the sworn union personnel have voted uh- and are unanimous. they're calling for her to resign. the captains have called for her to resign. >> in a monday letter to the board sheriff corpus, urging them to not move forward, sayin, quote, this process undermines the will of voters. this is not democracy. it follows the november release of a report prompted by internal complaints that corpus allegedly abused her power, had an inappropriate relationship with her chief of staff, and sent racist and homophobic messages. corpus counsel, echoing her sentiments in tuesday's public comment. >> this is premature for you to usurp the authority of the voters. >> not doing that here. the board is respecting uh- the elected position of the sheriff. >> supervisors once again imploring corpus to address the allegations while under oath. >> so if sheriff corpus wanted to come to our next meeting on december 10th and make her case, why we could take this off while

represented by counsel and testify to us and present whatever evidence she wanted to, the board could take it under advisement. at that time. >> attorneys for the sheriff asked the board to delay today's vote, saying that there has not been due process. while that did not happen, the board did set a december 11th deadline to withdraw their request for the special election. if there's a sudden change of heart and additionally, supervisors acknowledge that this entire process is going to be costly to taxpayers, estimating it could be 4 million for this special election, which supervisor corso's team tells me is the same amount as a recall. and that is why she is asking sheriff corpus to resign before things escalate. dan. julian. >> okay. monica, thank you so much. of course, we'll continue to follow this story. one of the top three credit agencies has downgraded the city of oakland's bond rating by two notches. fitch ratings says the decrease is due to the city's projected budget gap, and that leadership changes, like the mayoral recall, will make it difficult for the city to balance its budget quickly. a bond rating

affects the interest rate on money a city borrows to fund projects. the city council is expected to announce where budget cuts will be made next week. >> wells fargo, which has been in business in san francisco since 1852, is reportedly looking to sell its current headquarters on montgomery street, according to the chronicle. the company's hq will relocate just a few blocks away to a spot on market street. a wells fargo spokesperson confirmed with abc seven news that this move to a more modern building aims to deliver a better experience for employees and customers. >> still ahead, it was a chaotic six hours in south korea after the president declared martial law, and then lawmakers defied him, led the latest and reaction from local korean americans here in the b

south korea's president has agreed to withdraw troops just hours after declaring martial law. the troop withdrawal comes after south korea's parliament voted unanimously to lift the martial law. the country's embattled president said earlier today it was needed to defend from what he calls the threat of north korean communist forces. vague. obviously here at home, the white house is keeping a close eye on developments. south korea is a key u.s. ally, with 30,000 american troops stationed there. >> it was quite the turn of events, and those developments in south korea sent shockwaves thousands of miles away, right here in the bay area. abc seven news reporter suzanne ford spoke with local korean americans who were stunned to hear the news today. >> it is a huge deal. that's a huge deal. >> albert choi with the korean community center in the east ba, is stunned by the actions of the south korean president. >> it's a very democratic state. we're a developed country. there's no immediate, you know, civil unrest. >> president yoon suk yul

declared martial law in an unannounced tv address tuesday. >> president yoon, it seems like he's an unpopular president at the time right now, because his ratings are going down, and i think he needed to do something where, you know, kind of like a shock factor. and he just kind of wanted to seize power. he's from a very conservative party. >> at san francisco international airport. hiram yu greeted her mom, who just got off the plane after a long flight from south korea. we asked if she knew about the south korean president declaring martial law. uses. her mother was shocked. >> she said he has to uh- quick. >> yu's mother says the president must step down. earlier, we asked you about her family still in south korea. >> they are very upset, i think. yeah, seems like upset and worried about the force with the

gunpoint while stopping for breakfast at a starbucks in vallejo this morning. sports team. that's the name of the band they posted on social media that they were on their way to sacramento to begin their u.s. tour, when people in masks broke into their van and threatened them with a gun. thankfully, none of the band's instruments were stolen. the band wrote on social media, quote, they can take our nintendo switches, but they can never take away our ability to play rock songs about motorways, so they kept some good spirit about them there. >> they did, and they were okay, which is the most important thing. well, p-g-and-e's has offered the city of san jose an agreement to build out its grid and provide firm commitments and deadlines to improve service. the mercury news reports that the utility company is hoping to stop san jose from pursuing its own city utility. the city is concerned about rising costs, reliability and expected growth downtown and in north san jose as well. about 2000 jurisdictions have their own public utilities, including palo

noticing though, some patches of fog right along the san mateo coast. so tomorrow morning do expect it not just near the coast, but also across parts of our north bay valleys. temperatures right now in the 50s and the 60s. have you noticed the air quality with that ridge of high pressure putting a lid on the atmosphere? it has been suffering. so we do have some pockets of moderate air quality shaded in yellow, but that's also enhancing that sunset that we're seeing tonight. overnight tonight, areas of fog a beautiful view from emeryville tomorrow through friday. mild with above average temperatures again. and the start to the weekend will be cooler and cloudier. but the second half will be brighter. so 8:00 tonight you're going to see temperatures in the 50s as we head towards 10 p.m, 40s and 50s cooling slowly. but by tomorrow morning we will see those numbers drop off with some patches of fog. tomorrow afternoon. once again, another mild day, 5 to 10 degrees above where you should be for this time of year. your morning temperatures in the 40s. for most of you. 38 in fairfield. watch out for some patches of fog. maybe dense south bay

temperatures 71. in san jose, 68 in santa clara on the peninsula, 66 in palo alto, 65 san mateo. low 60s coast side downtown san francisco 64 degrees. if you like this weather, you're in luck because it's going to continue in the north bay. 69, santa rosa 66. in san rafael in the east bay 67 oakland. union city had inland 67 degrees in san ramon, 68 in livermore and 66 in concord. i do want to show you where that storm track will remain in the pacific northwest this weekend. they're going to get some rain, some snow. that pattern will continue. and then next week, thursday, the rain line starts to shift into northern california. accuweather seven day forecast. we are in for a dry, mild days, hazy skies at times, and then this weekend. saturday is cooler, sunday slightly milder but temperatures will drop off closer to where they should be for this time of year early next week. so julian and dan soak up the sun while it's here. we like it. >> we love it. we'll take s
