tied to a tree. we're fortunate that she didn't sustain any serious injuries and nothing worse happened. >> tonight, investigators are searching for the person responsible for tying that woman up. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley, and i'm ama daetz. >> that incident happened this morning in pebble beach. >> abc seven news anchor karina nova is in the newsroom with more, including the warning from the victim to another hiker. shortly before the attack. karina? yeah. >> dan and ama. police continue to search for a man who attacked that woman based on a description that she gave them. around 930 this morning, another hiker found the woman tied to a tree and crying. this was on a hiking trail near hull road about a mile and a half north of sunbridge road in pebble beach. and that's when police were called. the victim told police she'd been tied up for about two hours before she was rescued. she told investigators she saw the man earlier in the morning and warned another female hiker, telling her the man seemed suspicious. police say after the

two women parted ways, the suspect approached the victim. >> the female victim noticed that the male suspicious male got a little close to her. she attempted to let him pass by and as he got close to her, he produced a handgun and basically walked her over to a tree and proceeded to tie her up to that tree. >> police say their search for the suspect was slowed by the fact that the crime had happened. two hours before they were notified. the victim described the suspect as a man in his 30s with a unique tattoo on his neck that began with the letter z. police don't believe there are any other victims in the case. live in the newsroom karina novoa, abc seven news. >> all right, karina, thank you so much. a sonoma county park ranger has now been identified as the victim of what investigators are calling an apparent murder suicide on thanksgiving eve, and now law enforcement officials are raising funds to support her family. the sonoma county sheriff's conducted a welfare check of 38 year old kat pringle after she failed to show up for

work. they found her suffering from a gunshot in her home in a gunshot wound from her home next to 43 year old keith gray, who was a former coworker, according to the fundraising website, pringle was known for her passion and commitment in serving the community as a park ranger. she leaves behind a 22 year old son. >> developing now in butte county. a gunman shot two students at a school near oroville before taking his own life. the shooting happened at about 1:00 at the feather river school of seventh day adventists. it's a private school with fewer than three dozen students. those students were evacuated to a nearby church after the shooting. the two injured kids were taken to nearby hospitals. we don't know their conditions. the butte county sheriff says the shooter did not appear to have a connection to the school, and his motive is still unknown. >> now to the latest in the murder trial of cashapp founder bob lee today. jury deliberations began. neymar is accused of stabbing and killing lee on april 4th of last year. well, many testified he acted in

self defense. abc seven news reporter melanie woodrow has covered the case since the beginning, and was in court for six weeks of testimony. she joins us live from outside the hall of justice with the latest melanie. >> neymar. defense attorneys are hoping that video they showed jurors of bob lee allegedly doing drugs off of a knife. hours before his murder, will introduce enough doubt into jurors minds about the origin of the murder weapon. for them to find neymar not guilty. those 12 jurors must unanimously find many guilty or not guilty of first degree murder before they can potentially consider a lesser charge of second degree murder. similarly, they must unanimously find many guilty or not guilty of second degree murder before they can consider the lesser charges of voluntary or involuntary manslaughter. if they cannot come to a unanimous decision on a higher charge, they must inform the judge. jurors may not use the internet during deliberations, but they can examine all of the exhibits

in this case. >> i've got nothing but the utmost respect for our jurors that our top decision ahead of them and ever so grateful for our our legal team on this and the most of all, our judge, and even more so, the uh- san francisco police to be a little cheery about this, but i think that they've all done a phenomenal job. and unfortunately for our family, you'll never stop fighting triple snakes. >> you do what you can a both sides, the prosecution and the defense. we put on our case, they put on their case. now we wait. that's all you can do. how do we feel? it doesn't matter how we feel. it matters what the jury feels. >> christa lee, bob lee's former wife, was wearing a heart and knife necklace today that she said was made for her. she said she will always have a dagger in her heart. least three stab wounds, including one wound to the heart. jurors can set their own schedule for these deliberations, though the judge

did say that she is hoping jurors will spend a full day deliberating every day. today, those jurors decided to take a 60 minute lunch break instead of a 90 minute lunch break. the judge also telling jurors she has the utmost faith in them. reporting live outside of the hall of justice in san francisco. melanie woodrow, abc seven news. >> they have important work to do here. melanie, thank you so much. a new report paints a troubling picture about gun violence and how it disproportionately affects communities of color. in alameda county. outgoing alameda county district attorney pamela price released that 84 page report. this morning. it finds gun violence is the leading cause of death in the county for people under the age of 18. according to the findings, an average of three. alameda county residents were killed by guns every week between 2019 and 2023. a disproportionate number of those victims were young people of color. price says it's time to use this data to make lasting change to address the issue. >> the support action that we

hope will go forth even after my departure includes addressing the structural inequalities that contribute and promote violence in communities that are most impacted by it. >> the report was authored by the da's office, along with the public health department and law enforcement. the county board of supervisors voted to declare gun violence a public health emergency in 2021. >> in oakland, there have been a lot of questions around who will become the city's next mayor and today, officials announced a timeline for how the process will work. but there are still some uncertainties. abc seven news reporter anser hassan has more from city hall. >> i also want to say very clearly that continuity and stability is critical during this time of transition. >> oakland city council president nikki fortunato bass will be oakland's new mayor, but just for three weeks on wednesday, the city outlined the process for who will become oakland's next mayor. based on a legal opinion drafted by the

city attorney's office, the alameda county registrar of voters is expected to certify the november election by december 5th. oakland city council will accept the results at its next city council meeting on december 17th. at that moment, mayor shengtao steps down bass becomes interim mayor. however, bass is also moving on. she won her race for alameda county board of supervisors for district five. so she will serve until january sixth. >> i'll have more information to share by december 17th. on the interim plans for our district two council office. >> at the january 6th meeting, three new city council members will be sworn in. the new city council will pick the next city council president and pro tem. that president will become interim mayor. the pro tem will become acting city council president. a special election will be held on april 15th for the new mayor and bass district two seat. >> in other circumstances, we might have a mayor pass away or suddenly become incapacitated, and we would have a vacancy that

we're dealing with in real time right now. we have the advantage of having weeks and months to plan ahead. >> in this scenario, oakland will likely have four mayors between now and april. this all unfolds as oakland faces an almost $100 million historic budget deficit. but the way oakland's government is set up, the mayor is not as strong as in other cities. and bass says the current city council has already been doing the hard work. >> we are looking at this as how do we continue to address the structural imbalance that we have. so we are really working to set up the next council. the new mayor for success. >> former alameda county superior court judge brenda forte led the recall campaign against mayor tao. she sent a letter to the city claiming there are other options for a cleaner transition, with only one interim mayor. one example is having bass resigned as city council president and letting one of the outgoing council members serve instead. oakland city council will have a special budget meeting on december 9th, where they may consider possible budget cuts. president bass

hopes to have some tough decisions made by the end of the year. in oakland, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> california is preparing to fight back against president elect donald trump's plans for mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. >> today, attorney general rob bonta issued a warning for public institutions like schools, libraries and hospital, saying they do not have to give information about immigrants to their, in their cases, to federal officials. >> abc seven news reporter monica madden was there for bonta's announcement today and joins us now live. hi, monica. >> this is all setting the stage for a fight between blue states and the trump administration, and it isn't welcomed by everyone in the golden state. historically, the court sided with the federal government on matters of immigration enforcement. but attorney general bonta says california has ways to resist. legally, the incoming trump administration vowing mass deportations of undocumented immigrants. >> i got a message to the millions of illegal aliens that joe biden's released in our country, in violation of federal law. you better start packing

now. >> with promises of retaliation against states that don't comply, you will say, gavin, if you don't do it, we're not giving you any of that fire money that we send you all the time for all the fire forest fires that you have. california attorney general rob bonta punching back. >> we're not going to spend our time, our money or resources going backward, pointing to a 2018 sanctuary state law that instructs local officials not to cooperate with ice agents in identifying undocumented immigrants. >> it also prevents law enforcement officers from asking about a detained person's immigration status. federal law requires officers to share that information if asked by ice agents how to prohibit the unauthorized collection or disclosure of information that might indicate an individual's or family's citizenship or immigration status. saying non-disclosure of intel about immigrants does not violate federal law and will allow immigrants to keep using california's public spaces like libraries, hospitals,

courthouses, and schools should be available for all without fear of civil immigration enforcement. not everyone agrees they can come into the country legally. >> if they're true asylees they go to a port of entry and declare make a declaration of asylum. but unfortunately, many of them are going to have to go back. >> sf gop chairman john dennis chalking it up to politics. >> immigration. naturalization is completely in the purview of the federal government, and this is all theater. this is all gavin newsom now has a lane open to run for the white house. >> this coming after california lawmakers began a special session monday in which governor newsom is asking for a $25 million legal defense fund to battle trump in court over issues like immigration. while many sanctuary cities in california are bolstering resources to protect migrants, some are welcoming trump's proposals. riverside sheriff chad bianco saying publicly he plans to work around the state's sanctuary city law to help ice with deportations and just a

a lawsuit over alleged labor violations. a former server claims the restaurant denied employees proper breaks and that servers were also pressured to skip rest periods. that's according to the chronicle. now, that server, identified as sean hyatt, worked there from 2022 until july of this year. the lawsuit seeks more than $25,000 in damages. longtime owner joe betz tells abc seven news the claims are totally fabricated. he says the server was fired for being intoxicated on the job. as of this afternoon, betz has not seen the claim. >> another iconic san francisco

restaurant making news in chinatown. the 116 year old landmark restaurant sam wu is scheduled to close at the end of the month. this comes as the longtime chef and co-owner gets ready to retire, and his business partner scrambled to find a replacement. since first opening in 1906. the restaurant has closed several times, including breaks in 2012 and 2015. as of now, the last day to visit sam wu is december 31st. >> after the break, a holiday tradition in jeopardy. why the curtain may not rise for san francisco ballet's

little bit as the exterior of the war memorial opera house in san francisco gets decked out for the holidays. >> thank you guys. that's good. >> there are tensions behind the scenes, putting the opening night performance of the iconic nutcracker at risk. the show, which often draws guests from across the bay area and beyond, opens december sixth. for more than five months, the dancers, part of the american guild of musical artists, have been at odds with the san francisco ballet over wages, use of student labor and what they say are an increase in injuries without an agreement. before the opening curtain puts the show's 33 performance season in jeopardy. ballet patrons aren't the only ones disappointed at the possibility of canceled shows. >> we rely on the on that business that we get from the jazz center, from the symphony, from the ballet pretty heavily. so it definitely will affect us. >> a model restaurant is along the busy hay street corridor and just blocks away from the opera house. it and other businesses already facing post pandemic challenges. we're looking

down at 450. those high clouds and the haze giving us that extra color tonight. oakland downtown set a record for the second straight day. 70 degrees this afternoon. while it was mild to warm. other areas did not have records, but 70 in san jose. livermore, 72, redwood city, 68. in san rafael, santa rosa, 66, in napa, 69, in concord. san francisco coming in at 65 degrees. unfortunately, with the stagnant pattern that we're in, the air quality is suffering. many areas are in the yellow, which is moderate air quality. and as we take a look at the forecast for the next two days, tomorrow, all areas are moderate. friday, same thing except the south central bay will go to good air quality. so here's the pattern. high pressure blocking. high blocking the storm track. so it's going well into canada. and that's where it's going to stay for the time being. we on the other hand will see some of these high clouds rolling in. we're already seeing them, but more are overnight going into tomorrow

morning. temperatures right now in the 50s and the 60s. a gorgeous view from santa cruz. camera overnight tonight. fog and increasing clouds. tomorrow a sunnier afternoon and your weekend weather will start off cloudier and cooler on saturday, but sunday should be brighter. looking at the hourly temperatures, 40s and 50s at 8:00, we're going to see those high clouds continuing to increase. but those temperatures are not going to fall a lot because of the insulation from the clouds. so most areas will begin in the 40s and 50s. there will be some patchy dense fog and coastal fog once again. highs will come in in the 60s to 70s for most areas. i'll show you the ultimate high temperatures tomorrow morning. most of you in the 40s 50s fairfield could drop down to 39 degrees, so you still need those layers in the morning tomorrow afternoon. low 60s to the low 70s pretty nice looking day. now we're going to fast forward. show you where that storm track remains saturday in the pacific northwest. sunday still there. rain, snow mix and then here
