>> we're going to check with drew. it's been warm. beautiful. can't complain. >> really can't. and today is no different. we'll find those warm temperatures continuing today. and even into tomorrow. so here is live look outside from sutro tower this morning looking fantastic. but we do have some high clouds up above in some spots around the city. oakland, half moon bay. you'll notice once the sun gets up here, it's a partly cloudy start to the day as the system passes by well to our north. for us it will just bring morning clouds. but the afternoon those clouds get out of here and we have tons of sunshine once again. but that limited cloud cover is doing some help this morning to keep us a little bit warmer than we were this time yesterday. no 30s on the board right now we're mainly in the mid 40s and the mid 50s as we get you going here on your thursday. so looking at the day planner today along the coast, you'll find a mix of sun and clouds throughout the morning. brighter in the afternoon, but it's still mild for this time of the year. we'll have daytime highs getting you into the

low 60s by about three 4:00 pm around the bay shoreline. partly cloudy this morning. bright sunshine this afternoon. mid and upper 60s for daytime highs and a similar story inland. partly cloudy right now. we'll get lots of sunshine this afternoon. feels very nice with highs in the 60s. let's check on that commute this morning. how are you doing. >> yeah. good morning. we're going to start off with our overall map of the bay area showing overall it's green. that means good news. we do have that typical slowdown along the altamont pass though with a report of a stall on westbound 580. this is right after the 205 split is blocking the left lane and it's adding to that altamont pass commute. you can see speeds down to 16mph there. and i'll leave you here with the drive times. tracy to dublin on the altamont pass, 33 minutes. san rafael to san francisco, 16 minutes and a 14 minute drive from antioch to concord. >> deliberations set to resume this morning in the bob lee murder trial, lee died last year after he was stabbed in san francisco. abc seven news reporter lena howland is in the studio this morning with where things stand. lena. >> reggie. jury deliberations started yesterday, but they

couldn't come to a decision. that means they will be back at court for day two of deliberations this morning. and a verdict could come at any time. nima momeni is accused of stabbing and killing cash app founder bob lee back in april of last year, he testified he acted in self defense. nima mckinney's defense attorneys are hoping that the video they played of lee allegedly doing drugs off a knife hours prior to his murder will introduce enough doubt in jurors minds about the origin of the murder weapon to find momeni not guilty. 12 jurors must now unanimously find momeni guilty or not guilty of first degree murder before they can potentially consider a lesser charge of second degree murder. similarly, they must unanimously find momeni guilty or not guilty of second degree murder before they can consider the lesser charges of voluntary or involuntary manslaughter. >> i've got nothing but the utmost respect for our jurors that are very tough decision ahead of them and ever so

grateful for our our legal team on this. and the most of all, our judge. and even more so the uh- san francisco police to be able cheery about this. >> and yesterday, krista lee, bob lee's former wife, was wearing a heart and knife necklace made for her. she said she will always have a dagger in her heart. lee's three stab wounds, including one to the heart. jurors can set their own schedule for deliberations, though the judge did say she expects them to put in a full day of deliberations daily. she also said she has the utmost faith in them. live in studio lena howland, abc seven news. >> all right, lena, thank you. >> and this morning, we're following a really bizarre and frightening story out of monterey county. authorities are looking for a man who held a woman at gunpoint. and then tied her to a tree on a hiking trail. this happened yesterday morning on a trail near hall road, which is on a reserve between pebble beach and monterey. investigators say the suspect

approached the victim shortly after she says she encountered another female hiker. she warned that hiker she thought she was being followed, but the other hiker kept walking. the female victim noticed that the male suspicious male got a little close to her. >> she attempted to let him pass by, and as he got close to her, he produced a handgun and basically walked her over to a tree and proceeded to tie her up to that tree. >> the monterey sheriff's office says the suspect did not rob, injure, or assault the woman. the victim described the suspect as a man in his 30s with a unique tattoo on his neck that began with the letter z. >> this morning, there's an urgent search in new york city for the person who murdered the ceo of unitedhealthcare. that was breaking news yesterday on abc seven mornings, brian thompson was shot and killed as he was walking to an investor's conference. abc news reporter christiane cordero is tracking the investigation and the clues that could lead to the killer.

we do want to warn you. you might find some of the video you're about to see disturbing. >> this morning, new surveillance video shows what appears to be the man who shot and killed unitedhealthcare ceo brian thompson in new york city, appearing to carry an e-bike battery possibly used in the getaway. >> every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned, targeted attack. >> 20 minutes after this surveillance video was taken, around 6:45 a.m. wednesday, the gunman approached thompson as he arrived at an investors conference, firing multiple times until his gun jams. he clears the barrel before firing again at the black gun. >> and i saw him after he shot him. he ran across the street. >> the suspect runs through an alley, police an e-bike, disappearing into central park. police recovered a water device discovered writing on the shell casings found at the scene with the words deny,

defend and depose, sources tell abc news. thompson's wife, paulette, told nbc her husband had received threats, adding she doesn't know the details. unitedhealthcare is the largest private health insurer in the u.s. among companies in the health insurance market. it ranks highest when it comes to the percentage of claims denied, nearly twice the industry average. >> did he have any known enemies or anyone that you've been able to find so far? >> we're reaching out to law enforcement in minnesota, and we're also interviewing his coworkers and family members to see if there have been any specific threats against him in the past. >> thompson worked at unitedhealthcare for 20 years and was promoted to ceo in 2021. the 50 year old minnesota native was also a father of two. his wife tells abc the family is shattered, describing thompson as loving, generous and talente. detectives are now running tests to see if there are any traces of fingerprints or dna on the items. the shooter appears to have left behind. christiane

cordero, abc news, washington. >> now to a really gross issue in the east bay this morning, crews are rushing to repair a sewer line break that's causing a massive overflow of untreated wastewater. this is near the shore acres pump station in bay point. so far, about 20 million gallons of wastewater flowed into a nearby marsh between port chicago and pittsburg. the delta diablo sanitation district found the break on monday, and they say corrosion in the pipeline caused the failure. nearby residents did not know about the break, but say workers have been outside of their homes for days. >> what does it smell like to you? >> it's really strong. it's like decompose or like a lot of waste. it smells really bad now. >> delta diablo says there is no sign of damage to the environment as of right now. they hope to have the pipe repaired by tomorrow. and we are just 20 days from christmas. and if you want to find some of the best and brightest holiday

collection, i'm told, is in washington, d.c. as to which year deacon dave did it best. >> do you have a favorite year? >> no, no, but i hear this year, yes, but maybe this year is better than last year. >> hard to say. they'll have to make that decision themselves. >> j.r. stone abc seven news. >> you can see if deacon dave wins tonight right here on abc seven. the great christmas light fight starts at 8 p.m. >> very cool. all right. 511 this morning we're taking a look at live doppler seven, along with satellite. and we do have a very weak system. skirting by to the north. you can see a couple of returns on radar this morning. we're not seeing any moisture here locally, but we are seeing some additional cloud cover getting added to our sky this morning. and that is making a big difference when it comes to our morning temperatures. a little bit of insulation thanks to the cloud cover, means we're a bit warmer than we were this time yesterday by about 5 to 7 degrees in most areas, so

we're starting out in the 40s and in the 50s this morning. later on today, it's bright sunshine will keep those mild temperatures. maybe 1 or 2 degrees cooler compared to yesterday afternoon. but still these daytime highs are above average for this time of the year. so here's future weather. you can see that cloud cover overhead first thing this morning. here's 9 a.m. when we're getting into the 50s at that hour. watch as we head into the afternoon. the cloud cover gets out of here. we turn to full sunshine later on today, so it will be a bright end to the day and temperatures really pleasant once again. we'll have those daytime highs about 5 to 8 degrees above average. so 64 in the city, 65 in oakland hit about 69. in san jose, 68 in santa rosa, 66 in concord, 60, in half moon bay. we have another warm day tomorrow before some changes for the weekend. we'll show you that coming up in just a few minutes. >> drew. thank you. products from a raw milk company here in california are being takn off store shelves because of a recall linked to bird flu. now the company's ceo is being asked

the conflict in south korea, the country's parliament has impeached four officials over the president's attempt to declare martial law. theto president himself is still facing calls to resign or be impeached himself, and he's now under investigation for insurrection. the declaration lasted six hours tuesday night. the government quickly rebuked the president's actions, and yesterday the president's defense chief resigned. he was reportedly the mastermind behind the martial law declaration here in the bay area. some within the korean community are protesting the actions of their president. thousands of miles away, dozens rallied outside the federal building in downtown san francisco. abc seven news reporter tara campbell explains why the unrest there is having

an impact here. >> martial law is a crime on the streets of san francisco. a showing of support for south koreans. >> i really wanted to come out today in solidarity with the people in korea. >> this was the scene in south korea tuesday, its embattled president declaring martial law, deploying the country's soldiers on its own people. >> i am concerned, but i'm also really proud of the korean people for standing up and, you know, taking a stand against this really kind of arbitrary action that he's taking. >> widespread protests, forcing the president to lift his order just six hours later. the country still reeling from the chaos. >> are you worried about your family just in respect to what's going on right now? >> absolutely. i mean, i just finished texting them, saying how they're doing. there's been radio silence. >> a lot of family members were actually asleep overnight and woke up to hear of this kind of really alarming news. but by the time they had woken up, you

know, the people were already victorious in many ways. >> the local korean community gathering, raising their own voice. >> diasporic koreans are here to show the koreans back at home that we are with them. and that we're in solidarity with them. >> the south korean people were not only proud, but extremely resilient. we are powerful. and yeah, we're going to get through this. >> and while their loved ones continue the battle in south korea, they have no plans on backing down here. >> we just want to see that we're going to continue to be out here. we're going to continue to show solidarity with koreans back in korea. we're going to continue to show up. this is not going to be the last time you see us here. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> a major step for the a's stadium plan in vegas today. a 30 year lease and otheroday. a documents are expected to be approved by the las vegas stadium authority. this comes after the estimated cost of that new ballpark rose by about a quarter of $1 billion. now, this is seen as the last major

obstacle before construction can start, likely in the spring. the a's will play in sacramento until that new ballpark in vegas is ready. today, bart's board could take the first step toward a name change for what we know as the lake merritt station right now in oakland. a board member plans to propose renaming the stop to the oakland chinatown station. the station sits on land that used to be a part of chinatown. the transit agency will also provide an update on the campaign to combat sexual harassment on trains. >> wiget is expected to be a major academy award contender. the blockbuster musical is being named the best film of the year by the national board of review. the movie, nominated under that category is usually nominated for the best picture oscar. wicked director jon chu was also named as best director, while stars cynthia erivo and ariana grande will receive the spotlight award. npr's awards gala will take place january 7th. >> is it possible that i have seen no movies this year except for wicked? because i can't

ceo mark mcafee to apply for a role advising the fda on raw milk. this was first reported by the mercury news. roar farm recently recalled its milk and cream after avian flu virus was detected in some of its products. it was the company's eighth recall in recent years. also, trump has named his pick to lead nasa. tech billionaire jared isaacman was nominated for that role yesterday. isaacman has flown to space twice on commercial space missions and conducted the first private space walk. he has no experience working in the federal government. in washington, pete hegseth is vowing to fight to be confirmed as secretary of defense. he's addressing claims of sexual misconduct and alcohol abuse and insisting trump still supports his nomination. here's abc news reporter christiane cordero. >> pete hegseth says he's not going anywhere, insisting he has president-elect trump's support in his fight to be confirmed as secretary of defense. >> he said keep going. keep

we can. there we go. looking down in the south bay, headlights are heading north. that's on 101. it's an easy drive as well into sunnyvale and along the peninsula. then mass transit. you can see all trains, everything on time. caltrain, bart and ace trains. doing all right this morning? >> two kindergartners are in critical condition this morg after a shooting at a private school in butte county. the shooting happened yesterday afternoon at feather river adventist near oroville. investigators worked into the night gathering evidence. they say the shooter went to the school yesterday to talk to administrators about enrolling a student. minutes later, screams and gunshots rang out when deputies arrived, they found the gunman's body near the playground. the sheriff says the man took his own life. investigators believe they have clues about the motive. >> we have received some information that leads us to believe that the subject responsible for this shooting targeted this school because of its affiliation with the seventh

day adventist church. >> the two students who were hurt were taken to a local hospital. other students were taken to a nearby church to be reunited with their families. the pastor who opened up his church to the students, spoke to good morning america about the chaos following the shooting. >> i remember several different vehicles were parked straight in parking spots. doors weren't closed. all of that goes out. the window in the moment of an emergency, and the fear of the possibility of losing a child. tears. there was just it was pandemonium. >> abc news reporter melissa arden is live in butte county this morning. she'll have more on gma at seven. that's right after abc seven mornings. >> many of us have paid extra for things like picking a seat, boarding early or checking bags on flights. now airlines are being accused of not being transparent enough about so-called junk fees that the biden administration and a bipartisan group of senators say are turning americans into

they've missed a court appearance and owe money as a result. county officials say real court personnel will never request sensitive information over the phone. if in doubt. hang up and independently verify the legitimacy of the call by contacting the court directly. >> tomorrow is opening night for san francisco ballet's nutcracker, but a labor dispute could keep the curtain from going up. the preparations are underway at the war memorial opera house, but behind the scenes, it's a much different story. tomorrow, the contract expires with the american guild of musical artists, the union represents the dancers and stage managers. area businesses are worried they could take a significant hit during the holiday season. if shows get canceled. >> we rely on the on that business that we get from the jazz center, from the symphony, from the ballet, pretty heavily. >> so it definitely will affect us at the center of the dispute are wages, the use of student labor, and injuries. 33

to make that shelter better to get animals adopted. abc seven news reporter dustin dorsey explains, in the meantime, the city is getting creative with ways to encourage adoptions. >> as many are finalizing their wish list, this holiday season, there's an easy top choice at the san jose animal care and services shelter. we're going to get you a home. >> we are bringing a gift home this holiday season. i'm telling you, it's not going to just change their life. it's going to change yours. >> and this year, it's never been easier to adopt a furry friend thanks to this new pop up shop. about a dozen animals will be available here this month every friday, saturday, and sunday from noon to six with no adoption fees. >> we have a lot of foot traffic here. a lot of people who live in or pass through downtown. and so being more present, being more accessible and just making it easier for people to consider adopting a pet is really the spirit of this better community access and a path to adoption is one of the 39 recommendations

for improvements from a city audit that highlighted poor care for the animals. >> another is lowering stress levels, which director of public works matt lesh says this center will help with. as well. >> get them out into a more open space where less dogs are barking, so it's a quieter place and so they can help lower down some of their stress. and that would also then provide the advantage by bringing them here. they're distressed, but then also provides more space and capacity at the shelter for them to decompress. >> there's a lot of stress at the shelter, both for the animals, which are well over capacity. according to the audi, and for the staff having to manage various issues, including an investigation into the death of a dog tuesday night after a neutering surgery. mayor matt mehan says the city has invested money and resources, but the audit shows them what else needs to change. >> we will need to see the management team at the center step up and deliver on the 39 recommendations that the auditor outlined. we'll be looking at that very closely. and in may of 2025, we'll have an update at our neighborhood services

committee. >> there's hope for an improvement in conditions at the shelter and plenty of adoptions at this center. this holiday season. you're getting adopted. >> i can tell. >> in san jose, dustin dorsey, abc seven news. >> so dustin's story reminded us one of san francisco's cutest holiday traditions is happening right now. adoptable puppies and kittens from the spca are on display in the windows of macy's at union square. you can check them out wednesdays through sundays from noon to 6 p.m. through december 31st. the spca. oh my goodness. they're waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs five months and older. this year's goal is finding homes for 600 animals. >> san francisco's house of prime rib facing a lawsuit over alleged labor violations. a former server claims the restaurant denied employees proper breaks and servers were also pressured to skip rest periods. that's according to the chronicle. that server, identified as sean hyatt, worked there from 2022 until july of

this year. the lawsuit seeks more than $25,000 in damages. longtime owner jo jo betz tells abc seven news the claims are totally fabricated. he says the server was fired for being intoxicated on the job in san francisco's chinatown. >> the 116 year old landmark restaurant sam wu is scheduled to close at the end of the month. this comes as a longtime chef and co-owner gets ready to retire, and his business partners scrambled to find a replacement. since first opening in 1906. the restaurant has closed several times, including breaks in 2012 and 2015. the last day to visit sammy jo is december 31st. >> we're already getting constant news for next summer. grammy winner zach bryan and kings of leon will perform at the second installment of the golden gate park concert series. the seven hour concert is scheduled for the weekend right after outside lands on august 15th. next year. promoter another planet entertainment says there will be more performances announced later. 50,000 music lovers attended

tomorrow. we're keeping that warm sunshine the dry conditions. temperatures remain about 5 to 10 degrees above average over the weekend. it'll look a little bit different. we'll have some increased cloud cover. it will feel cooler, but temperatures are still above average and we still stay dry. saturday and sunday. now down the pipeline, our next chance of any rain, any significant storms probably coming next weekend, starting on the 14th will likely see that storm track dive a little bit to the south over northern california. in fact, we'll show you that here on future weather. we'll get you into the 14th here. there's the date. the center of the low is well to our north around portland. we're kind of on the outer fringes of the system, so we'll likely get some rain that is very light in nature. some new snow in the sierra. it's not a blockbuster storm by any means at this point, but that could change. so here's a look at the rainfall totals over the next ten days. heaviest rain to our north, a couple of inches around seattle and portland for us here locally, probably less than a quarter of an inch with this next storm system. but if the
