into the city, which is fantastic. 47 minutes to get into the city. i'll give you your drive times now. tracy to dublin. that typical slowdown on the altamont pass. 37 minutes. dublin to mission boulevard south, 17 minutes and a 16 minute drive to get from 101 to cupertino. deliberations are set to resume this morning in the bob lee murder trial. lee died last year after he was stabbed in san francisco. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live in the studio this morning with where things stand. lena. >> amanda. jury deliberations started yesterday, but they couldn't come to a decision. that means they will be back at court for day two of deliberations. this morning. and a verdict could come at any time. nima momeni is accused of stabbing and killing cashapp founder bob lee back in april of last year. he testified he acted in self defense. his defense attorneys are hoping that the video they played of lee allegedly doing drugs off a knife hours prior to his murder will introduce enough doubt in jurors minds about the origin of the murder weapon to find momeni

though the judge did say she expects them to put in a full day of deliberations daily. she also says she has the utmost faith in them. live in studio lena holland, abc seven news. >> thank you. lena. this morning we're following a bizarre and frightening story out of monterey county. authorities are looking for a man they say held a woman at gunpoint and then tied her to a tree on a hiking trail. this happened yesterday morning on a trail near hall road, which is on a reserve between pebble beach and monterey. investigators say the suspect approached the victim shortly after. she says she encountered another female hiker. she warned that hiker she thought she was being followed, but that other hiker just kept walking. >> the female victim noticed that the male suspicious male got a little close to her. she attempted to let him pass by and as he got close to her, he produced a handgun and basically a tree and proceeded to tie her up to that tree. >> the monterey sheriff's office

says the suspect did not rob, injure, or assault the woman. the victim described the suspect as a man in his 30s with a unique tattoo on his neck that began with the letter z. this morning, there's an urgent search in new york city for the person who murdered the ceo of unitedhealthcare. we had this as breaking news yesterday on abc seven mornings. brian thompson was shot and killed as he was walking into an investor's conference. abc news reporter christiane cordero is tracking the investigation and the clues that could lead to the killer. a warning now you might find some of the video disturbing. >> this morning, new surveillance video shows what appears to be the man who shot and killed unitedhealthcare ceo brian thompson in new york city, appearing to carry an e-bike battery possibly used in the getaway. >> every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned, targeted attack. >> 20 minutes after this surveillance video was taken, around 6:45 a.m. wednesday, the gunman approached thompson as he

arrived at an investor's conference firing multiple times until his gun jams. he clears the barrel before firing again. >> got like a black gun and i saw him after he shot him. he ran across the street. >> the suspect runs through an alley, police say, then hops on an e-bike, disappearing into central park. police recovered a water bottle, a candy wrapper and a cell phone they believe are linked to the shooter. and detectives discovered writing on the shell casings found at the scene with the words deny, defend and depose. sources tell abc news. thompson's wife, paulette, told nbc her husband had received threats, adding she doesn't know the details. unitedhealthcare is the largest private health insurer in the u.s. among companies in the health insurance market. it ranks highest when it comes to the percentage of claims denied, nearly twice the industry average. >> did he have any known enemies or anyone that you've been able to find so far? >> we're reaching out to law enforcement in minnesota, and we're also interviewing his

coworkers and family members to see if there have been any specific threats against him in the past. >> thompson worked at unitedhealthcare for 20 years and was promoted to ceo in 2021. the 50 year old minnesota native was also a father of two. his wife tells abc the family is shattered, describing thompson as loving, generous and talente. detectives are now running tests to see if there are any traces of fingerprints or dna on the items. the shooter appears to have left behind. christiane cordero, abc news, washington. >> developments. oakland city leaders are laying out the timeline for replacing recalled mayor shang tao. she's the first mayor in oakland's history to be recalled by voters. the alameda county registrar of voters should certify election results today. about two weeks later, the oakland city council will formally accept the results, then current city council president nikki fortunato bass will become interim mayor, but she just won the race for a seat on the alameda county board of supervisors. so next month,

she's moving on in january. a new oakland city council will be sworn in, and they will pick a city council president who will become the new interim mayor. a special mayoral election won't be held until mid april. the interim mayor will serve until the winner of the special election is sworn in. all of this unfolds as oakland faces a historic budget deficit. >> i also want to say very clearly that continuity and stability is critical during this time of transition. oakland's residents deserve for all of us to come together, for our leadership to be strong and effective, to be focused on our fiscal responsibility. safe communities, as well as our other ongoing priorities. >> so what this means is oakland could have four mayors in the next six months, all because of the recall. >> oakland isn't the only place in the bay area holding special elections. san mateo county voters have a special election march 4th, to vote on whether to

give the board of supervisors the power to fire the sheriff amid misconduct allegations, which the sheriff denies. in san jose, the city council has set a special election for april eighth to fill the seat of former city councilman omar torres, who resigned after being arrested on child sex abuse charges. and then oakland would select its new mayor just a week later. >> a really gross issue in the east bay this morning, crews are rushing to repair a sewer line, break that's causing a massive overflow of untreated wastewater. this is near the shore acres pump station in bay point. so far, about 20 million gallons of wastewater flowed to a nearby marsh between port chicago and pittsburgh. the delta diablo sanitation district found the break on monday, and they say corrosion in the pipeline caused the failure. nearby residents did not know about the break, but say workers have been outside of their homes for days. >> what does it smell like to you? it's really strong. >> it's like decompose or like a

impeached four officials over the president's attempt to declare martial law. the president himself is still facing calls to resign or be impeached himself, and he's now under investigation for insurrection. the declaration lasted six hours tuesday night. the government quickly rebuked the president's actions. yesterday, the president's defense chief resigned. he was reportedly the mastermind behind the martial law declaration here

in the bay area. the korean community, they are protesting the actions of their president. thousands of miles away yesterday, dozens rallied outside the federal building in downtown san francisco. they wanted to show support for their family and friends in south korea. >> a lot of family members are actually asleep overnight and woke up to hear of this kind of really alarming news. but by the time they had woken up, you know, the people were already victorious in many ways. >> while citizens in south korea continue to continue the battle, those here in san francisco say they are remaining steadfast in their support. a major step for the a's stadium plan in vegas today. a 30 year lease and other documents are expected to be approved by the las vegas stadium authority. this comes after the estimated cost of the new ballpark rose by about a quarter of $1 billion. this is seen as the last major obstacle before construction can start, likely in the spring. the a's will play in sacramento until

opened fire right here inside their school in northern california. community searching for answers this morning after a gunman opened fire at an elementary school in butte county. shots fired. officials say two male students, ages five and six, were shot and wounded. >> those two children were transported to local hospitals. they are currently in extremely critical condition. >> the suspect, dead from a self-inflicted gunshot. investigators working into the night collecting evidence. authorities say earlier that day, the shooter had met with the principal at feather river, seventh day adventist school to discuss enrolling a student. several minutes later, screams and shots were heard. the small christian school, about an hour north of sacramento, put on lockdown. the children taken to a nearby church to reunite with their families. >> tears. it was pandemonium.

it's collective, collective trauma. >> the fbi and local police are now investigating the motive behind the shooting, including a belief that the suspect targeted this school due to its affiliation to the seventh day adventist church. reggie aqui sonoma county park ranger, has been identified as the victim of what investigators are calling an apparent murder suicide. >> the day before thanksgiving, and now law enforcement officials are raising money to support her family. sonoma county sheriffs conducted a welfare check of 38 year old kat pringle after she didn't show up for work. when they got to her house, they found her next to 43 year old keith gray, who was a former coworker. both had gunshot wounds. according to the fundraising website, pringle was known for her passion and commitment in serving the community as a park ranger. she leaves behind a 22 year old son. >> a new report paints a troubling picture about gun violence and how it

disproportionately impacts communities of color in alameda county. outgoing alameda county district attorney pamela price released that 84 page report just yesterday. it finds gun violence is the leading cause of death in the county for people under the age of 18. according to the findings, an average of three. alameda county residents were killed by guns weekly between 2019 and 2023. a disproportionate number of the victims were young people of color. price says it's time to use the data to make lasting changes to address the issue. >> the support action that we hope will go forth even after my departure includes addressing the structural inequalities that contribute and promote violence in communities that are most impacted by it. >> the report was authored by the da's office, along with the public health department and law enforcement. the county board of supervisors voted to declare gun violence a public health emergency that was back in 2021.

>> a warning from the santa clara county superior court. scam artists are targeting people through a phony jury service. call the court has seen an increase in cases where county residents are contacted by phone. victims are told they've missed a court appearance and they owe money as a result. county officials say real court personnel would never request sensitive information over the phone. and if you doubt the call, hang up and independently verify the legitimacy legitimacy of the call by contacting the court directly. >> a company that went viral for its potential solution for the bay area's high rental prices is facing an uphill battle with regulators in san francisco. brownstone share housing is offering sleeping pods you see right here for $700 a month. in october, the city granted the company the proper permits to start operating, but our media partners at the sf standard have learned the city quickly reversed the approvals. regulators say the pods do not meet the space requirements for affordable housing. brownstone would have to pay a fee of

>> first, muni is holding its annual sweater fest, where people can show off their icons of san francisco holiday sweater or other festive outfits. the event will include live performances, haiku and a sweater photo contest winners will receive prizes. muni sweater fest is happening at the chinatown rose park station from 3 to 5 today. >> you can lace up your ice skates and do a little twirl alongside local drag personalities for the drag on ice event in san francisco's union square. the event has been around for 15 years at the safeway holiday ice rink. skating will cost you 30 bucks per person if you don't want to skate, you can still watch performances on the ice starting at seven, and the event goes from 630 to 8 tonight. i've been before. it's a lot of fun dressed to impress. >> clearly more than 550 multicolored lights will go up on the historic monterey cypress tree in golden gate park. today, san francisco is holding the 95th annual holiday tree lighting. what some locals call uncle john's tree. the event will include carnival rides, food trucks, holiday activities
