it's right now. >> san mateo county sheriff christina corpus has an invitation from the board of supervisors to tell her side of the story of the scandal plaguing her office. but will she accept it? good evening. i'm karina nova. county officials are discussing sheriff cristina corpse's future this week. they want her to appear at tuesday's board of supervisors meeting and give her story under oath. tonight, county supervisor ray mueller told abc seven news. corpus declined their invitation to speak. corpus has been under pressure to step down following misconduct allegations. she's denied all wrongdoing and refuses to resign. yesterday, the abc seven i-team's dan noyes

reported the county made $1noyes million offer for corpus to walk away, but she turned down that offer. a juvenile driver was arrested for driving into a guard shack in front of a gated community in discovery bay. one guard died and another injured. it happened near bixler and balfour roads just before midnight. a witness described what happened in the moments before the accident. >> i think i heard the guards yelling, stop, stop, stop! both of them, if not one of them, i don't recall at the time. right now, but one of them was hollering stop, stop, stop because they had seen a car coming towards them right? right before the initial impact. >> the chp says the driver was a juvenile and he was taken to the hospital with major injuries. driving under the influence has been ruled out as a factor. we're following developing news out of palm springs tonight. at least ten people were injured when a police officer on ared motorcycle crashed into a crowd during the city's festival of lights parade. the officer was

among those hurt. none of the injuries are considered life threatening. witnesses say the officer lost control of the motorcycle while attempting to do a trick. we want to turn now to the weather and there are some changes coming tomorrow. spencer christian joins us now with your 24 hour accuweather forecast. spencer. okay. >> karina. well, things are going to be sort of mild tomorrow. temperatures well above average for this time of the year. so let's start with our day planner 7 a.m. we'll see mainly bright skies as overnight clouds will have disappeared for the most part, 46 degrees inland, 50 around the bay, 59 on the coast. then by noon we'll see mostly sunny skies. in fact, the skies will be mainly sunny all day. about 62 degrees inland and around the bay 58 degrees on the coast. 4 p.m. not much change there. a little bit milder though. mid 60s inland and around the bay shoreline. 58 on the coast. and then as we get into the 7 p.m. hour, it will be mostly clear a few high clouds moving in about 56 degrees inland and around the bay, getting cooler on the coast down to about 60,

about 52. and in our week ahead, there may be some rain playing into the forecast picture. i'll have that a little bit later. karina. all right. >> spencer. thank you. in the north bay, santa rosa firefighters and city officials have agreed to a new labor contract. after nearly a year of negotiations. the press democrat reports the deal includes a 12% raise over te years. a union representative says the pay increases and other incentives will bring santa rosa firefighters closer to what firefighters from neighboring departments earn the city council is expected to approve the new contract at tuesday's meeting on monday, the oakland city council will hold a special meeting to vote on proposals to help balance a historic $129 million budget deficit. there will be big hits to public safety and jobs cut across all city departments. abc seven news reporter anser hassan takes a closer look at the impact. >> oakland mayor shengtao was recalled in part due to concerns over public safety. now there

are concerns over the deeper budget cuts to public safety announced on friday. >> there is a cut of overtime, which is 25 million in there, and they're also projecting to cancel two future police academies. >> sergeant timothy dolan is vice president of the police union. with retirement and turn over and no money to hire new officers, he predicts opd could be down to 600 officers by the end of next year. from the 800 officers, two years ago. that means cops are forced to work overtime, but opd is millions over budget, mostly because of that overtime. >> a lot of this the department survives on overtime. as far as our mandatory overtime where we work sideshow operations on the weekend or backfilling open patrol beats or homicide investigations. >> public safety accounts for almost 70% of the city's general fund, forcing opd to cut overtime spending by $25 million is equal to about 20% of the entire $120 million budget deficit. oakland will also

unrestrict and transfer funds to the general fund totaling close to $40 million, but it has to do more. it will reduce homelessness funding cultural arts grants and eliminate the community. ambassador program. stewart chen says this program has been a success in chinatown. he says if people don't feel safe, they won't come out. >> at this moment in time to take them away, it will just it's just two steps forward and one step back. it will send us back to where we were 3 or 4 years ago. >> cyber security is also facing cuts. the department that one year ago had to deal with a ransomware attack. julian was vice president of oakland's local 21, a union that represents office jobs. he's an it administrator. his department will lose six i.t. jobs without a sound it department. >> you're never going to have a sound city because all these other systems in the city rely on the it department to actually make them functional. he says many unions are frustrated with the lack of revenue collection, millions of dollars that could be used to save jobs. be

diligent about, you know, all the monies that are due to the city, particularly before any of these funds start to sunset, because, you know, at some point you can't collect on some of these revenues. so it's very important for us to, you know, strike while the iron's hot. >> the report states if these proposed budget cuts don't work, the city will have to declare a fiscal emergency. city council will vote on the proposals at a special meeting on monday in oakland, anser hassan. abc seven news. >> today marks 83 years since the surprise attack on pearl harbor naval base in hawaii. today, the uss hornet sea, air and space museum hosted a pearl harbor remembrance in alameda, a chance for the public to honor those lives lost and for those who lived through the attack to share their stories. dale bervin is a former navy pilot. he was a fifth grader at the time of the attack. >> i went to see a friend of mine who lived three doors down. i told him his mother overheard it and started sobbing. oh my

train toy drive by caltrain. you can't ride the special train full of characters and characters, but you can see it making stops at stations across the bay area. today, it spread some cheer in san mateo, redwood city, mountain view, and santa clara. tomorrow it will head to millbrae, burlingame, menlo park, and sunnyvale. visitors are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy to donate. tonight, a story of the bay area community rallying to make sure kids in oakland have holiday gifts this year. we first brought you this story earlier this week when a beloved toy drive was in dire need of donations, but as abc seven news reporter tara campbell reports

today, the tide turned in a record number of gifts were handed out. >> the sights and sounds of a community rallying to make sure these families in oakland's chinatown have gifts. this holiday season. the christmas in the park toy drive was started 18 years ago in honor of late oakland police officer stan mok. he organized a drive before passing in 2007 when he when he started, you know, i was so moved by it that i felt like that this tradition should still go on and it's been going strong ever since. that is, until this year, when donations dried up. >> it was so sad and heartbroken. i was crying at nighttime. >> that was earlier this week when we first brought you this story. at the time, they'd only received ten donations, but since then, support has been piling in from all over the bay area. >> when the community all came together to pitch in. and thanks to dion lim for, you know, for speaking out, the story really touched me so much that i wanted

>> how wonderful is that? in san leandro, families came out for the annual santa at the firehouse event, with lots of activities for kids and a chance to make deeper community ties. >> this is our chance to for us to just invite the community into our fire station to get their some hot chocolate, some chocolates and cookies and get their picture with santa and this beautiful classic fire engine. we have. >> it's also an effort to get gifts for more families this holiday season. toy donations are being accepted at any of alameda county's fire stations in support of local nonprofit distribution programs. and in san francisco, a toys for tots drive was called hanukkah and paris. it was held at the white rabbit on fillmore street, where people stopped by and hung out for drinks. this french themed soiree benefits unprivileged, underprivileged children of the bay area and is focused on jewish community engagement.

>> there aren't any hanukkah toy drives. there's a lot of christmas ones. we want to include diversity and let people engage with the jewish communit, because it's time we all come together and value each other's cultures, especially now in the world we live in. kids need toys. this holiday season, and it's really up to all of us just to bring the magic, bring the light, you know, repair the world and give these little gifts to the children. >> u.s. marines were there in uniform to help collect toys at the door. they'll help distribute the toys later to let's glow. assaf is back, illuminating eight different buildings downtown with animated light shows. crowds gathered on market street for the kickoff party last night, and tonight, people wandered out to the other spots on the map to see displays curated by artists from around the world, like this one at the pacific coast stock exchange building. and you can see the lights for yourself each night from 530 to 10 p.m. through december 15th. and i'll tell yo, this is one of my favorite events. i do it every year. this will be my third year, i guess.

wow. doing it. it's so magical. you just go walk around from one to the other. most of them are walking distance to each other. the even the ferry building is lit up and it's so beautiful. >> i love this time of the year. oh yeah, is festive and decorative and it lifts your spirits. it does. >> and it's nice when it's not too chilly. >> oh, that's true. right now is not too chilly. let's take a look at what's going on with our weather. right now we have a few thin, high clouds sweeping through the bay area sky and notice little patches of drizzle offshore. it's not likely any rain is going to move onshore tonight, but it's possible there could be a batch or two of drizzle moving onshore. but right now we're dry and really calm. the wind speeds are no greater than five miles per hour around the bay area anywhere. in fact, most locations have no measurable wind speed at all, and it's a little bit milder right now than at this time last night. 2 to 4 degrees, milder in most locations. so let's move along and take a look at current temperature readings as we look out over the city from sutro tower, 56 degrees here in san francisco right now. oakland 51. we have low to mid 50s

at san jose and hayward. half moon bay, 49 at redwood city. now here's a view from mount tam under mainly clear skies, looking down onto the bay and looking at parts of san francisco 47 degrees up north of santa rosa. right now petaluma at 4346, in napa, fairfield only 42 degrees 48 concord. livermore 46. and looking across the embarcadero fromr rooftop camera, you see how calm the conditions are. these are our forecast headlines tomorrow through tuesday, we can expect sunny skies with gradual cooling as we get into the first few days of the week. midweek clouds will increase and then towards the end of the week, friday into saturday, rain chances increase. i'll get to that in just a moment, but first, a look at our overnight conditions on the futurecast notice skies will remain mostly clear, but as we get into 4 or 5 a.m, we'll see those passing high clouds increase just a bit, so it will become fairly cloudy in the wee hours of the morning. but then by about 9 a.m. or so, most of those clouds will be out of here.

skies will be turning sunnier overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the mid to upper 40s 49 san francisco 48 oakland and 46 to 47 around the bay shoreline. a little bit chillier up in the far north, with lows dropping to about 40 at lakeport, 42 at santa rosa over at fairfield, a low of 41. and then highs tomorrow under mainly sunny skies except for the passing clouds here and there. but 60 one half moon bay, 63, in san francisco, mainly mid 60s around the bay shoreline up in the north bay 68 santa rosa, mid to upper 60s in the inland east bay and we'll see highs of 68 at san jose and morgan hill. now the futurecast shows by midweek. or you know well by midweek, wednesday into thursday we'll see some rain approaching the bay area. it won't really develop though until about friday into saturday. that's our best chance of some rainfall in the seven days ahead. and speaking of those seven days, here they are on the accuweather seven day forecast, dry conditions and relatively mild through monday, cooling down a bit on tuesday and wednesday as skies turn partly cloudy.

today, bart held its annual holiday sweater fest. bart lovers were invited to put on their best bart sweater and take a group photo at the rockridge station plaza. the event featured live music and transit themed crafts, and of course, there were ugly sweaters for sale, along with bart beanies, socks and scarves. tonight, more than 10,000 people are in the holiday spirit after attending the second annual joy to the city event at the chase center. low income families attended the party at thrive city. assembly member matt haney and code tenderloin hosted the holiday celebration. it included a toy giveaway. there was also free ice skating, live entertainment, and family photos with santa and mrs. claus. the giants are making a blockbuster deal in free agency. sarah hodges is here with a preview of sports. >> hi, karina. buster posey and the giants backing up the brinks

buster posey made his first major move as giants president of baseball operations, according to espn. the club has signed shortstop willy adames to the biggest contract in giants history, passing the deal buster himself signed as a player. espn says adames will get $182 million over the next seven seasons, including a $22 million signing bonus. adams was the at the brewers for the last three, and a half seasons, where he collected 107 home runs. dingers are nice, but he's also going to fill a huge need at shortstop. last season, we saw the club rotate a few different players in that starting position, but weren't able to find a suitable replacement for brandon crawford moving to the gridiron. the niners are on a three game losing streak heading into sunday's game at levi's against the chicago bears. after stumbling in the snow in buffalo. brock purdy knows if they have a chance to make the playoffs. they've got to take care of business and that means getting back in the victory

right now. >> now to the latest on the search for the suspect in the deadly shooting of unitedhealthcare ceo. the fbi is now assisting local authorities in the search for the gunman. investigators are following leads across multiple states. abc's morgan norwood has more from new york. >> the fbi is assisting the nypd in a nationwide manhunt for the suspect. believed to have killed unitedhealthcare ceo brian thompson on wednesday, not far from rockefeller center in new york city. investigators say the suspect, wearing all black and a ski mask, waited until the 50 year old thompson showed up at the hilton hotel for an investor's conference before fatally shooting him at point blank range. >> at this time, every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned,

slippers worn by judy garland in the wizard of oz, sold for $28 million at an auction today. garland played dorothy and those famous red shoes have quite a history. they were on display at a museum in her hometown in minnesota when someone stole them in 2005. the fbi recovered them in 2018, and heritage auctions estimated the shoes would sell for around $3

finally getting their first players via the wnba expansion draft with the draft party friday night at the san francisco museum of modern art. the new team's picks announced by michelle wie west, baron davis and of course, e-40. the seven of seven of the team's 11 players were international. i was one of the first people to interview valkyrie's gm ohanian afterwards, and apparently was one of the first people to allow her to relax. all right, you can finally breathe now. go ahead and take that deep breath. >> thank you for asking me to take a deep breath. i haven't taken one yet. >> yeah, i bet. what if the last two weeks been like for you? >> they've been thoughtful, i would say like, they've been super emotional. they've been hard working. it's been a great experience in trying to figure out who's going to be a part of the valkyries. that's the one question that i've been asked outside of who's going to be my head coach. and so i did that.y
