>> and in the wake of that shooting, the new york police department is warning corporate executives to take extra safety precautions. viral posts have listed the names and salaries of eight health insurance executives, business leaders all take very personally what happened to brian thompson? >> because here was a guy who was doing his job, and in a sense, it could have been any of them, because there is vitriol in social media across the board about corporate america. >> meanwhile, wanted posters were spotted outside the stock exchange, including images of executives and reportedly praising last week's killing. nypd intelligence officials have been calling major companies to assist with their security. >> all right. we want to get to your accuweather forecast with the rain on the way once again this time tomorrow, it will be a one on our storm impact scale. >> it's been a few days since

we've had some rain. meteorologist sandhya patel is tracking the rain and a chilly night tonight. >> yeah, and we're basically looking at winter coming a little early. we've already been feeling that cold air, but now we're going to bring in some storms. so let's look at our storms as far as how many days and what we're looking at over the next several days. you're looking at the possibility of rain every single day. the storms are lined up in the pacific as we look at live doppler seven, and the first one is coming in. it's a one for tomorrow night. as we look at the timing here, you'll see that it moves in late tomorrow night around 9 p.m. by 1130 it is moving across most of the bay area. we will see some downpours, but they'll be brief. thursday morning the wet weather continues for parts of the bay area on our storm impact scale. exclusive to abc seven news tomorrow night to thursday. rain and then showers. slippery roadways, breezy in spots. the other thing we have been noticing the last couple of days is how cold it is. it's already down to 36 degrees in fairfield. a frost advisory is going up for

california. fuel damaging winds in the east bay overnight. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone talked with firefighters and scientists about the dangerous conditions now bleeding into december. >> this is all new video recorded tuesday night showing the brush fire still burning in malibu near pepperdine university. >> it's always kind of a wild card to see where the fire activity is going to be, whether it's going to be up north, down south. >> in this case, the fire is down south. franklin fire has burned more than 3000 acres, destroyed at least seven homes and damaged at least eight more, according to the l.a. county fire department. paul lowenthal represents the santa rosa fire department and has seen changes in the weather patterns firsthand. last month, santa rosa received more than 14in of rain in a matter of days. >> clearly, there was a period of several years where it really seemed a lot of the significant fire activity was in the northern part of the state. uh- you look at what happened here in sonoma county from 17 through

20, and then now we've seen a little bit of a shift to more of the activity down south this time of year. >> it hasn't been just fires in the state of california over the past 48 hours. heavy winds took down this massive redwood tree overnight monday, it fell onto a home in berkeley. fortunately, no one was hurt. here's associate professor william boose at uc berkeley. >> the winds that we had in northern california last night and this morning were actually part of the same fire weather regime that was happening in southern california. it was this big high pressure system sitting over the interior of the western us. >> as to the malibu franklin fire, likely something will continue to watch from afar in northern california. >> the chances of a large, devastating fire like what we're seeing to the south, happening to the north with the rains that we're having, the fuel moisture levels that they're at now is just not very likely. >> j.r. stone, abc seven news.

>> new at 11. we now know when the fillmore safeway in san francisco will close. safeway released a statement saying the store on webster street will close around february 7th. it was originally going to close earlier this year, but public pressure kept the doors open for 11 more months. all employees will be reassigned to other safeway locations in the san francisco area. pharmacy customers can have their files moved to another safeway of their choice. >> the homelessness crisis is one of our biggest challenges in the work to build a better bay area, and tonight another city is taking aggressive new steps. novato is the latest to restrict camping, empowered by a landmark supreme court decision over the summer. abc seven news reporter tim johns is in the north bay with the details on the new rules and the community pushback. >> a sweeping new ordinance in novato bans camping on the streets of the marin county city. the rule, which was passed during a special meeting of the novato city council earlier this week, led protesters to come to tuesday's council meeting that

the hundreds of people that live outdoors here will not have the means to protect themselves. >> no sleeping gear, no camps, no sleeping bags, no tents subject to arrest and misdemeanor citations. >> jennifer marlowe says she fears the new ordinance could have serious ramifications for the physical and mental well-being of the community's unhoused. marlowe's friend and fellow protester robbie paulsen, even filing a lawsuit against the city for passing the new ordinance. >> we have a right to be a degree of safety that the government can't deprive us of the things that we need to survive and put us in increased risk of harm. >> it's not just the potential health implications that worry many unhoused folks here in novato. several of them tell me they also simply just don't know where they'll go. the city of novato sent abc7 news a statement regarding the ordinance passing. it reads in part novato's municipal code already prohibited unlawful camping, with limited exceptions and councils. approved changes are similar to those being approved or considered in other jurisdictions. mark shotwell,

who runs the nonprofit retreat center in san rafael, says he's not surprised by the council's decision. shotwell tells me while he understands the public's frustration over persistent encampments, there have to be real solutions. >> the way that we're going to end encampments is that we're going to partner together around housing first. we're going to get people into apartments with the supportive services, and that way they won't be in encampments ever again. >> and that's not okay. >> as for the protesters, they say they'll continue speaking out. >> we'll just come every tuesday, every city hall, every city council meeting. we will be here. >> the city of novato says it will continue working with local partners to ensure the unhoused get the care and resources they need. in novato, tim johns, abc seven news. >> and while novato cracks down, leaders in san francisco are backtracking on a plan to limit rv parking. the san francisco board of supervisors sided with homeless advocates who appealed the sfmta's new rules. it means the city cannot tow rvs and trailers parked overnight if

people living in them turn down shelter. >> tonight, the public got to chime in on san francisco unified's budget woes. the district paused closing schools in october after an uproar, but still needs to find a way to balance its books. it needs to cut next year's spending by $113 million. if school closures are off the table, then the district needs to eliminate 535 positions. one idea it has floated is offering early retirement packages. the district is also looking to save money by reducing the number of contracts it has with outside parties. parents are feeling fearful their kids will suffer in the classroom. >> we don't need more cuts. please, no more cuts. our students and staff are paying the price for the district's budget mismanagement. go after the district, not our schools. how do you expect a school to function with a skeletal staff? >> a final plan must be presented in five days to keep the state from taking over the

he's not the only one. joe burrow became the latest professional athlete to have his home broken into during a game, while his bengals were taking on the cowboys last night in dallas. burglars ransacked burrow's home in the cincinnati area. it's not clear yet what was stolen, but the bedroom window was shattered and the home just torn apart. a warning went out to nfl players after the homes of patrick mahomes and travis kelce were burglarized during games in october. nba players have also had their homes broken into. >> a menlo park company is being sued by parents over its ai chat bot. they claim the app made by character. i told their son it was okay to kill them for limiting his screen time. this is the second lawsuit brought by parents against the company. the first was over a child who died by suicide. the lawsuit seeks to get the app removed until its alleged dangers can be fixed. a character ai spokesperson says the company isn't commenting on the lawsuits, but its goal is to, quote, provide a space that

there's a lot of haze in the air. fairfield is three mile visibility with a little bit of fog as well. santa rosa, livermore four miles. so the air quality is suffering. we've got the stagnant air, moderate air quality for most areas down towards santa cruz. we have poor for sensitive groups. we're trying to show you a live picture from southern california of that wildfire, the franklin fire that is burning in malibu. sorry, we lost the signal there. winds were gusting over 90 miles an hour earlier when that fire exploded. it has definitely been pushed along by critically dry fuels, low humidity and strong santa ana winds. extreme fire weather conditions. earlier malibu fire hills right now 33 miles an hour. malibu 22. so the winds have come down, but the conditions are still not favorable. so a red flag warning going until 6 p.m. tomorrow because of the winds and the dry conditions. a wind advisory until noon tomorrow. the small section here. but those gusty winds can be damaging. we've already seen that elevated risk

of fire danger stretching from the malibu area all the way down towards the san diego mexico border. going into tomorrow. let's check out our winds. we had 50 to 60 mile an hour winds over our hilltops overnight into the morning, but they have dropped off considerably right now. 21 hawkeye 17 oakland hills. winds have dropped off and the temperatures are dropping. upper 30s danville, livermore, fairfield, santa rosa right now, 45 in oakland, 48 in san jose, 50 degrees in san francisco. tomorrow morning, you're going to be under that chilly conditions again with the frost, 32, in santa rosa, 30 in fairfield. so bundle up. live view from santa cruz a beautiful one overnight. one more cold, frosty night. tomorrow night, rain arrives and spreads and your weekend weather stronger. storm is due in on saturday, so tomorrow afternoon anywhere from the 50s to the 60s. partly to mostly cloudy skies. then a level one storm gets in here tomorrow night through thursday. rain and then showers. slippery roads, breezy conditions. looking at the rain. timeline 9:00 tomorrow night it's raining

in the north bay. everyone's getting in on the wet weather. at 1130. you will notice some downpours at 3 a.m. thursday and then scattered showers. just follow for the rest of your thursday. very spotty and very light in nature going into the late night hours before this system winds down. so rainfall projections with the first system anywhere from a third of an inch in the south bay to over an inch in the northern part of our viewing area. winter weather advisory for the sierra starts tomorrow night until thursday afternoon, 3 to 9in above 5000ft higher for the peaks. with those gusty winds, it's going to be tough to get up there. speaking of winds this weekend as that stronger storm approaches friday night, the winds pick up out of the south. you will notice going into saturday over 40 mile an hour winds, you might want to tie down your decorations if you have them out 6:00 in the morning saturday over 40 mile an hour winds. at times we're going to see 50 mile an hour winds and that could do damage. along with that, king tides are coming up starting on thursday. high tide shortly after 8 a.m, almost
