what's in store for the rest of the night, here's meteorologist sandhya patel. sandhya. >> yeah, dan, it is going to be a stormy night as we take a look at live doppler seven right now, i'll show you exactly where that rain is coming down. we're looking at the roof camera right now, but i'm not quite sure why we're not coming to live. doppler seven. i can show you where it is coming down. just trust me on this. we've been seeing steady rain in the north bay and it has been heavy. so as we zoom in here, i'm going to show you some of the heavier returns right around san rafael larkspur area. we are seeing those downpours kentfield heading across into the east bay, berkeley, claremont avenue, piedmont, oakland. downpour is there as well. san francisco is getting a soaking from the richmond to the marina district and down the peninsula into the santa cruz mountains. we are seeing that steady rain. this is a level two storm on our exclusive abc seven news storm impact scale. it is going to continue to bring us some heavy rain tonight. midnight going into tomorrow morning. there might even be thunderstorms at

4:00 in the morning to 7 a.m. if you could stay off the roads, this would be a wise idea. 830 in the morning, you are still getting a soaking. we do have a flood watch for the entire north bay. flood warnings for the russian river at hopland and the navarro river at navarro. and this is going through sunday afternoon. flooding is possible on streams, creeks, roads and the minor flooding on those rivers as the rain comes down heavily strong winds. so we have wind warnings for the coast and hills, wind advisories elsewhere until tomorrow morning, 50 to 60 mile an hour. wind gusts even higher at times right now 54 at big rock ridge. cobb ridge, by the way, already has had gusts to 77 miles an hour. right now, half moon bay is gusting to 39. you can see this view from sutro tower. it's a shaky view over 50 mile an hour winds as we head towards midnight. it is a level two through tomorrow. rain heavy at times, strong. damaging winds, dangerous surf and flooding is expected. >> dan okay sandhya, thanks a

lot. well, this weekend's weather is expected to be the most intense since a storm that blew through the bay area before thanksgiving. p-g-and-e's crews are getting ready for it tonight. there's some rainfall coming, but it's the incoming storm. strong winds that could cause power outages. >> the winds can break branches. it can throw debris through the air that can damage our equipment. otherwise, healthy trees can be uprooted. >> we're all being encouraged to clean out gutters and drain pipes. you should also charge electronic devices ahead of the storm to make sure you have things like flashlights ready to go in case the power goes out, and perhaps the weather kept people away. as the winter walk returned tonight to san francisco's union square. this signature holiday event includes ice skating, food and drink vendors, live performances, and, of course, shopping. it's on stockton street and spans two blocks from post to o'farrell with rotating local vendors each day. >> oh gosh. well, we love to come here every year. it's a tradition for our family and

unitedhealthcare. mangione was arrested on monday in pennsylvania, six days after the shooting in new york. investigators now believe he fled new york by train, not bus, as previously thought. the nypd now confirms san francisco police did in fact pass a tip suggesting that mangione could be the possible shooter before his arrest. but the fbi didn't pass it along in a way that was clear that it came from law enforcement. so the information was really not prioritized. nypd previously claimed none of the hundreds of tips received included mangione's identity, but we now know that is not accurate. all right. let's talk about the latest on speaker nancy pelosi. our media partners at the sf standard report that she has been hospitalized after falling and fracturing her hip. pelosi was at an event walking down a marble staircase at the grand ducal palace in luxembourg at the time. she was visiting to commemorate the 80 years since the battle of the bulge. pelosi's spokesperson says she

cannot attend any of the other ceremonies, but continues to work as she is beginning the recovery process. the abc7 news i-team has obtained a recording at the center of the scandal surrounding san mateo county sheriff christina corpus, and compared it to the 400 page audit released by retired judge ladoris cordell, hired by the county. now we've learned the judge left out 29 pages of the interview transcript with the sheriff's chief of staff. victor, nj. the board of supervisors made a decision to ask corpus to resign based on incomplete information, and judge cordell accused. nj of personally profiting from the county's lease on a new substation. but she confused his former real estate company with one that actually handled the deal. >> and just for the record, mayor, because i want to make sure that it is understood i never in any capacity or by myself, and i've never benefited

from any deals or been representing myself as a broker or an agent at all whatsoever. >> judge cordell also concluded that the sheriff and the chief of staff may have committed a misdemeanor crime because he wears this gold badge, but the i-team has confirmed both sworn and civilian staff at the department also wear gold badges. you can watch the i-team's entire report on our website. just go to abc7 news.com. well, san francisco's transit chief is stepping down from his role at the end of the year. jeffrey tumlin has led sfmta since 2019 and helped orchestrate a shift away from a city where cars ruled the roads. he has recently been the subject of a petition demanding his resignation, with some claiming that his leadership has ignored many of the public's concerns. it will be up to daniel lurie, the new mayor, to name a permanent replacement when he takes office as mayor. well, some major action today on california's drive to fight climate change. the supreme court has agreed to take up a

challenge to the state's ability to set strict emission limits. abc seven news reporter tara campbell has the story. >> the u.s. supreme court agreeing friday to review a case that will determine whether the oil industry can challenge california's standards for vehicle emissions and electric cars. >> it's not just going to slow down california when it comes to air quality and climate change, it's under the clean air act. >> the epa has granted california waivers, which essentially let the state set its own standards for emissions and allows for other states to adopt those same standards. >> looking historically, every time that california was pulling forward with new regulation or new levels than the rest of the world was following up in the oil industry's appeal to the supreme court, it argues that the epa waivers are unlawful, and now the court will decide whether oil companies can make that argument in other lawsuits. >> the fact that they granted review on the standing question

suggests to me that they're likely to find that the trade groups do have standing, and then those groups need to decide what they're going to take on. >> right now, about 25% of vehicles sold in california are electric or plug in hybrid. but the experts say if the oil industry gets the go ahead to challenge electric vehicle incentives, progress will come to a halt. >> without this regulation, we will not have the supply as much as we like, so we will not be able to choose between gas cars and electric car as as we would like to have. >> california is requiring 35% of vehicles in the 2026 model year be zero emissions. that number is set to rise again in 2030, and the experts say those regulations are holding automakers accountable. >> without california pressure, without the policy, they will not volunteer because the shift, the shift to electric cars or to clean transportation is against kind of the natural behavior of

humans. we don't like to do upfront investment in order to save later. >> tara campbell, abc seven news. >> incoming president donald trump has promised to push back against california's tougher regulations, vowing to rescind the waivers granted by the epa. the agency is currently weighing a waiver for california to ban gas only cars by 2035. new developments a federal appeals court declined tiktok's request to stop a possible ban. today's decision left the january 19th deadline in place for requiring the china based company to be sold or face a ban here in the u.s. tiktok, however, may get a lifeline from president elect donald trump, who has promised to save the platform during his campaign. the social media company has also vowed to try to get the supreme court to take up the case. all right, big mystery are they drones or maybe something else? a wave of mysterious aircraft sightings

has swept through the northeast, generating more questions than answers. and a lot of conversation about this. there are calls for action, including taking them out of the sky. but now it's not just the northeast. unexplained lights have been seen in southern california. reporter jessica de nova spoke with some people who saw them. >> there are drones all over the sky. >> this video shows strange lights hovering over old town temecula. damon angel, who goes by the name nomad, says he's been watching them since last week and recorded this video tuesday night. >> there was a couple that were like, really, like really close and they were about the size of a car. everybody keeps saying that it's probably getting annoying now, but they are giant drones, like they're not little and they move really fast. >> eyewitness news cannot confirm what these videos show, but we found several people who say they saw similar lights. >> these three lights that were in a sort of a triangle kind of formation, an odd looking thing. and i'm thinking that doesn't look like a plane. uh- it

started flying erratically. >> witnesses at first thinking it was aircraft heading to nearby camp pendleton. >> you can hear them and you couldn't hear this thing. >> angel says he's uneasy after seeing five zip over his head toward the pacific ocean. >> you know, it's just kind of scary to think, like, who's watching? and the fact that we contacted the sheriff's. the marietta pd commented on a post of mine. nobody knows who they are. >> this following reports of similar sightings this month in the northeast, now under investigation by local, state and federal authorities. a spokesperson with the faa tells eyewitness news the activity has more people looking up and noticing what's flying overhead. adding pilots don't need special permission from the faa to fly drones, provided they operate as recreational fliers or under the faa's small uas rule, and follow all the applicable provisions. unless drones are breaking rules or regulations, they are not investigated. an fbi spokesperson saying they'll work with their local counterparts and the faa should any reports

area. but a big development this week could help turn that situation around this spring. experimental crab traps have a pop up system designed to prevent whales from getting entangled by keeping lines on the ocean floor, and more crabbers will now be able to use them. a surprise decision by the california fish and game commission will dramatically expand the number of special pop up permits this spring, and i can't stress this enough. >> this is a tipping point at getting our spring fishery back. it's been six years. you know, you got to look at where we came from, where we're at and where we're headed. >> the increase in permits could double the potential fleet from 20 boats last year to 40 boats operating from april to june, so it is encouraging well, in the south bay. the san jose nutcracker is back for the holidays, but this year there's a twist on that holiday classic as the ballet is doing something it hasn't done for a decade. abc seven news south bay reporter lauren martinez was there for tonight's final dress rehearsal.

>> it's a south bay spin on a holiday classic, and for the first time in more than ten years, symphony san jose is performing along new ballet's the san jose nutcracker. >> symphonic music provides the soundtrack of our lives. and you know, the nutcracker is this incredible story. >> executive artistic director robert massie says this is a homecoming. we captured the final dress rehearsal friday evening inside the historic california theater. jose. nutcracker is a locally inspired production created by dalia rawson. >> we've had wonderful orchestras in the past, but this is the south bay's san jose's silicon valley's leading orchestra. these are tremendous world class musicians. >> the 40 member orchestra will be featured for all the performances. there's even familiar faces. >> i recognize them, they're sitting in the same place in the

in. let's go back to meteorologist sandhya patel to talk about the storm. sandhya. >> yeah, it's a level two and it is here. so let's look at live doppler seven. and you will notice that much of northern and central california dealing with the rain, dealing with the snow. so let's get you in closer to live doppler seven. and you will see that we are getting downpours. they are stretching from the east bay out towards benicia, crockett, concord. this is street level radar. pleasant hill, pleasant hill road. you are getting some heavy rain right now. now the rain has reached all the way down into san jose and points southward around the morgan hill, monterey road, highway 101 area san francisco is getting drenched along with daly city. and we look at the north bay, where we have seen venado picking up over three inches of rain. santa rosa is closing in on an inch and a half almost. there have already been reports in the north bay of trees down, so watch out. this is not a good time to be out and about. i would stay off the roads through early tomorrow

morning. petaluma highway 101. seeing the heavy rain right now around sonoma as well. now the excessive rain potential is increasing across the north bay and much of northern california. as you can see here, temperatures right now in the 50s and the 60s. for most of you, 48 at clear lake. pretty mild across the region with those south winds. looking at those live pictures right now, we are seeing not only the wet roadways but also the runway and shaky views from our tower cameras. it is a level two, a moderate strength storm. on our exclusive abc seven news storm impact scale through tomorrow. rain heavy at times, especially into the morning hours. strong damaging winds, dangerous surf and flooding. high surf advisory until 7 p.m. tomorrow. wave heights have come up there in the 3 to 13 foot range. breakers 18 to 22ft means there's a risk of rip currents, so kind of stay away from swimming or surfing right now. coastal flood advisory due to the king tides until monday afternoon. tomorrow morning at the golden gate, you're looking at over seven

footers at 9:37 a.m. here are the headlines. level two storm arrives late later tonight. it's already here overnight into the morning. excuse me. slight chance of thunder. and monday. we are looking at lighter rain and windy conditions. the winds over 50 miles an hour gusts and then they ease a bit at midnight. still 40 miles an hour. but then look what happens at 8 a.m. closing in on 60 mile an hour wind gusts along the coast and over the higher terrain. still gusty at noontime, and then the winds will finally back off at around 4 p.m. rain intensity will continue through the night, and it only picks up at 5:00 in the morning. reds indicating the heavier rain potential for thunder. 7 a.m. it is still going to be very stormy going into 8 a.m. this is when you'll likely see urban and small stream flood advisories never cross flooded areas, no matter how shallow you think they are. really, you're looking at scattered showers at 2:00 in the afternoon, continuing into the evening hours before this storm winds down. rainfall potential up to three inches in the santa cruz mountains, looking at anywhere from about 8000/700 of
