would bring the fed's benchmark rate down to a range of 4.25% to 4.5%, impacting everything from mortgages to car loans, but some borrowing costs like credit card rates still remain high despite those consistent cuts by the fed, and all of this is complicated even more by new inflation numbers. last month's consumer price index showing prices rose 2.7% compared to the same time last year. that's down significantly from its peak, but still above the 2% inflation rate the fed has been aiming for. food and energy prices, typically the most volatile. rising in november in that report, and to fight inflation, the fed usually raises interest rates or holds them steady. that's why if there is that expected rate cut this week, some economists are projecting that it might be a while until the next one and the fed might move cautiously into the new year. gio? >> gio: all right. a lot of people looking at that.
