recover, we have another storm on the way. it's going to be a messy monday morning commute. all the details. i'll let you know how much rain you can expect. >> and on the move. what we've learned about a wayward barge that ran aground near the emeryville berkeley marina. abc seven news starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> i heard someone scream. there's a tornado. so i ran out to the window to see. and there were things flying around. people screaming. >> witnesses say it was a scary scene. we're getting firsthand accounts of a rare tornado that tore through scotts valley. hi, there. thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. a big cleanup is happening in the santa cruz mountains, 24 hours after a confirmed tornado touched down. city officials say it's pretty amazing that no one was killed. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard talked to witnesses who saw the funnel cloud on the move. oh my god. >> okay. >> oh my god. it's a scene

straight out of the movies. but this was real life for people in scotts valley. saturday, aple in confirmed ef one tornado touching down on mount hermon road. ben hughes was there. >> everything was getting blown that way. cars were suddenly moving. you can see the traffic lights just leave the poles. >> the tornado touching down between two shopping centers, tearing through power lines and flipping cars over. some with people inside. >> i'm like, dad, we need to go help people. so me and my dad sprinted out of target, and then we helped this lady out of her car, and we made sure we put pressure on her head because she was bleeding. >> we started dragging branches off the street when the emergency vehicles were coming and to kind of create room, and everyone was kind of in a state of like, should i get my car and drive away or should i help out? or what do i do? >> police say five people were injured. one remains in the hospital. >> it was a miracle that no one was killed in this event. >> scotts valley vice mayor derek tim says the city is cleaning up and still assessing the damage. a classroom at scotts valley middle school was

impacted by a fallen tree. >> really lucky that it didn't hit any of the infrastructure here or the buildings directly in this location. the fact that one person was critically injured is still tragic, but we're pulling for that person. >> the tornado cutting a clear path through the shopping center parking lot. tree limbs are everywhere. lots of smashed cars are here to check it out. this suv lost all of its windows. a sign at the local mcdonald's was trashed by strong winds. manager chris joaquin was working the lunch shift. >> i saw some people outside. they ran inside and started holding the door shut and i could see that they were. they were really holding on hard and uh. luckily, everyone was safe. >> customers in the drive thru were not injured. >> i think only one person needed a refund. and you know, because we couldn't complete the order. let's go home. >> let's go home. this community now, moving forward from a day they will never forget. >> we feel like we dodged a bullet on this one in terms of the injuries and no fatalities in scotts valley.

>> cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> p-g-and-e's crews are working to restore power outages to more than 7000 customers in the bay area. take a look. you can see the remaining outages on the utility's outage map. look closely in the center of your screen. that red triangle that is campbell, where p-g-and-e's says more than 6000 people are now without power due to storm damage. p-g-and-e's says regarding the earlier outages, more than 350,000 customers in the region have already been restored. >> we use our meteorology team's machine learning models toteam's pre-stage crews, equipment and resources in those areas that are forecasted to be hardest hit. and the storm came in really as strong and in the locations where it was forecasted. so we were well positioned and prepared. >> p-g-and-e's expects to have the vast majority of remaining customers without electricity to be restored today. king tides topped seven feet at high tide this morning. many low lying areas had flooding on the

streets. over in mill valley, this section of shoreline highway was closed under 101 because of the flooding. we found at least one cyclist who didn't let it keep him from getting through the pedal deep water. tomorrow at 11 a.m, king tides are expected to peak at just under seven feet. well, certainly lots going on with our weather. so let's bring in abc seven news meteorologist frances dinglasan to talk about preparations. more rain on the way. >> yeah, more rain on the way. and in addition to the coastal flood advisory, there's also a flood advisory through parts of sonoma county, especially near mark west creek. this is at least until 4:00 tomorrow morning. more possible flooding of rivers, creeks, streams and roads. so turn around. don't drown. avoid that area. and we have a storm level one heading our way. it's going to hit us tomorrow morning. it's going to be a quick moving storm. anywhere from a 10th to half an inch expected, maybe more in some of the higher elevations of the north bay. slippery roads, a messy

commute. here's how it plays out. so things start to move to the north bay. by 5:00 in the morning, we'll see some moderate rainfall through santa rosa. by eight in the morning, it will be moving through the heart of the bay area the golden gate bridge, bay bridge, richmond, san rafael bridge and san mateo bridge will be impacted, but by lunchtime it has already cleared and will move quickly through the bay area, bringing us several days of dry rain. but i'll let you know what rainfall you can expect in your neighborhood. dion. >> all right, sounds good. francis. thanks. tornadoes are rare, but not uncommon in california. the national weather service shared this graphic here where you can see, on average, the sees 11 tornadoes a year. typically they happen in the spring and fall. most of the time the storms are weak in intensity. now, the last tornado in the bay area happened back in march of 2011. thunderstorms moving across california spawned a waterspout off ocean beach and a tornado that destroyed a building in santa rosa. an ef one tornado roared through south san francisco

back in 2005. it damaged 54 homes in ef one is considered a moderate tornado, with wind speeds between 86 and 110 miles an hour. the bay area is cleaning up and drying out after yesterday's fierce storm, which left quite a bit of damage behind in san francisco. the city's fire department responded to more than 100 calls about the storm. multiple cars were crushed by toppled trees. the fierce winds also left a trail of debris through many parts of the city. large trees fell across fulton street as well, and several giant eucalyptus trees came down inside golden gate park. you can track the rain anytime with the abc7 bay area app. it gives you the very same access to the live doppler seven our weather team uses. we'll also send alerts with important updates. firefighters in san francisco are investigating two warehouse fires in the city today. the first, in the dogpatch neighborhood, burned early this morning at minnesota and mariposa. this is

near the children's hospital, but the fire department tells us the hospital was not under any threat. no injuries were reported. the second happened at the former hunters point naval shipyard, where the fire broke out this morning inside a vacant building. fire investigators say that building is a total loss. no injuries in that incident, either. that is the good news. the cause is still to be determined. moving to developing news in southern california, where the franklin fire burning in malibu is now 42% contained. cal fire says cool, moistained. weather has helped crews battle those flames. more than 4000 acres have burned since it was sparked last monday. all mandatory evacuations have been lifted, and one of those thankful to be returning to their home is legendary actor dick van dike. quick thinking neighbors and good samaritans saved the 99 year old and his home. >> i couldn't get up and they had to pick me up and carry me

for michoacan because crime and violence are widespread in the region. we are following new details in the murder investigation of unitedhealthcare ceo, and nw the ceo of a bay area company says he's getting death threats in connection with the case. san francisco company peak design made the backpack that investigators say luigi mangione wore during the shooting. peak design ceo peter dearing says he and his staff have received threats due to misinformation online. he says the company has not provided customer information to the police, and would only do so under a subpoena. mangione is accused of killing brian thompson on december 4th in new york city. the jewish contemporary museum in san francisco is now shut down for an extended closure. today was the final day of admission for at least a year. the museum has been gradually reducing staff and closing its galleries as it deals with financial issues. >> the work that we're doing no, by taking a temporary closure

and putting together the team work to re-envision the contemporary jewish museum will enable us to have a long term future. >> museum officials say the pandemic and the overall economic struggles in downtown san francisco are just some of the issues that contributed to the decision to close the museum temporarily. over in the east bay, a barge that appeared to drift into the emeryville crescent is back out at sea. our emeryville camera captured this video just before 930 this morning. yesterday, the barge showed up along the shoreline along i-80 between emeryville and berkeley, and as you cane see, it was an eye catching sight for drivers on the freeway. the coast guard says the 100 foot barge, identified as the mud scow, ran aground and was resting on sand. the barge has seattle, washington and seaport as identifiers. pollution teams assess the situation. then a tugboat had to wait until high tide to tow the

snow in tahoe. caltrans cameras show snowy conditions on i-80 and highway 50, where chain restrictions are on stretches of those freeways. those were lifted earlier today. even so, some drivers chose to brave the conditions to go skiing. the uc berkeley central sierra snow lab in soda springs reports nearlyab 29in of snow fell there over the last 48 hours. another 2 to 4in is expected tomorrow. now ski resorts, as you can imagine, are relishing the snow. this video

coming from palisades tahoe, which says it received 17in of snow over the past day. a season total of 102in in total. today is day two of the outdoor music festival tahoe live, with diplo and lil wayne performing. snowy weather forced the festival to reschedule. lil wayne's performance from yesterday to today, lots of things in the bay area that were supposed to happen yesterday. outdoors got pushed to today also. >> yes, today was a nice break from all the weather because get ready, we have another round heading our way. live doppler seven. the satellite radar image showing you the clouds increasing and it is going to rain starting early tomorrow morning. temperatures right now in the mid 40s to low 50s. san francisco at 50. san jose 52. cooler though in some areas like fairfield only 43 degrees. and this is a really pretty view from mout tam. so we saw some of those clear skies today. but that's all going to change tomorrow. we have a messy morning commute and

then we do get a break most of monday afternoon into tuesday through friday. it will be dry and milder, but then it looks like another storm heading our way next weekend for saturday and sunday. futurecast shows by 5:00 in the morning, some of the more moderate rainfall will be moving through the north bay, like through santa rosa. then by 8:00 in the morning, it starts to spread south of the golden gate bridge into san francisco. by 11 just before lunch. the main brunt of the system will be moving through the peninsula and the south bay, and then in the afternoon we still could see some scattered light showers, but most of it will be gone. so rainfall amounts generally less than half an inch for most everyone. we could get a little bit more in parts of the north bay, especially some of the north bay mountains. ukiah point six inches, but possibly only a third of an inch in san mateo. and some of the models are now showing maybe more in san jose. closer to half an inch with all this

rain. it also means snow, so do not drive to and from the sierra starting tomorrow morning through tuesday. that's when a winter storm advisory is in effect. we're expecting up to eight inches of snow above 5000ft. chain controls likely, and travel could be delayed and difficult, so tomorrow morning's lows are generally in the low 40s to mid 40s. even a few upper 30s like livermore and morgan hill. milder in san francisco and half moon bay at 46 degrees. and then tomorrow's temperatures will be in the 50s. it will be cooler in the north bay as the system comes in from the northwest. lakeport 50 degrees will see lots of upper 70s around the bay. san francisco 57 and oakland and then san jose. one of the milder spots at 60 degrees. so here is the accuweather seven day forecast. we have to get those umbrellas out. it's going to be difficult getting the kids to school tomorrow morning. it will feel cold and it will be wet. so give yourself some
