rain later. lisa is tracking that forecast. >> plus, going 3d in and out debuts its 2024 ugly christmas sweater just in time for your holiday party. >> not more holiday parties. we're worn out. good morning. on this monday, december 16th. >> let's begin with a check of the weather with lisa. busy weekend. >> yeah, it was wild. we have a week and a quick moving storm that's moving through this morning. in fact, we're already getting some heavy rain in santa rosa. so as you look at live doppler seven, it's all queuing up for the most activity in the extreme pacific northwest. but you can see these returns here. pretty impressive. from cloverdale, down through santa rosa, back westward through point reyes. and as we get in closer. guerneville. looking at the reds here and oranges also towards santa rosa, where they just lifted that flood advisory yesterday. so more rain coming today, but it's not going to last long. we're looking at this level one, bringing anywhere from a quarter of an inch to three quarters of an inch in

the north bay. breezy winds along the coast and a lingering chance in the afternoon so you can notice that the rainfall picks up after 7:00. and then after 11:00 this morning, it really begins to diminish. and that will be in the south bay 44, in oakland with the cloud cover, 45 in sonoma. so with the clouds, we're 4 to 9 degrees milder this morning. there's fog as well. visibility reduced from concord at three quarters of a mile. livermore just a quarter of a mile. and here's the plan for today. then this morning, north bay rain getting to 8:00. the front sinks to the south, san francisco, oakland and concord. and then as we get towards about 1030, we're on the peninsula, the south bay with the rain showers. it exits by 1:00 in santa clara, and then we're left with cloudy skies. good morning to you, gloria. >> good morning to you, lisa. good morning to everybody at home. so far as you can see from our map hef the roads in the bay area, a lot of green, but you might see here a little bit of red. that's because we are following a sigalert. this is in south san

francisco. this is causing some big delays in this area. this is on southbound 280 right after westborough boulevard. the three right lanes are shut down because of police activity. we don't know when they are going to reopen this, so we will keep monitoring this for you throughout the morning and let you know as soon as we have more information on that. looking at your drive times. tracy to dublin, 42 minutes. san rafael to san francisco 16 minutes. antioch to concord 14 minutes. amanda. all right, gloria, thank you. >> a heads up for commuters in the north bay. if you see the smart train, you'll need to. if you use the smart train, you'll need to find a new way to get to work. this morning, the entire system is shut down. abc7 news reporter lena howland is live in marin county. with the problem and your options for today. lena. >> hey, amanda, good morning to you. we are at the larkspur smart train station right now where they are experiencing a system wide closure. now,ng a because of that, riders who depend on this train will need to find an alternate, an alternate route of transportation all day long

today. now, transit officials say downed trees blocked or damaged the tracks in multiple spots. they have to make repairs and complete testing to prepare for the opening of the new smart petaluma north station later this year. the testing was supposed to happen this weekend with a planned closure, but the weather got in the way for riders who end up taking a taxi, uber or lyft because of this closure. a reminder to save your receipts. smart says it will reimburse commuters. if you request it on the smart website, they'll send money to your clipper card. riders can also take the golden gate transit bus to get around this. they are still offering their regularly scheduled rides connecting sonoma and marin counties to san francisco, but they will be bringing in extra busses on route 101 to make room for the anticipated increase in ridership. and once you get here to larkspur, a reminder that the ferry service is still operating as normal today. and if you need help planning an alternate route

today, smart has expanded their customer service hours, opening up this morning at 4:00. live in larkspur. lena howland abc seven news. >> thank you lena. ski resorts are relishing even more fresh snow from the weekend storm. this is video from palisades tahoe, which says it received 17in of snow with a season total of 102. it wasn't just about hitting the slopes. yesterday was day two of the outdoor music festival tahoe live, with diplo and lil wayne performing. snowy weather forced the festival to reschedule lil wayne's performance from saturday to sunday. you can track the rain any time with the abc seven bay area app. it gives you access to the same live doppler seven our weather team uses. we'll also send alerts with important updates. >> this morning, players and parents from an east bay youth football league are recovering after a really scary accident in florida. they were there for a football tournament friday. they went on a walk on the water for an airboat tour when two of the boats crashed into each other.

kids and parents were sent flying into the water northwest of miami. abc seven news reporter j.r. stone has details from team leaders. >> this helicopter video shows the scene after two airboats giving tours in the florida everglades on friday collided, injuring more than a dozen people. this is nearly 3000 miles away from california, but we've learned that the group on one of these boats was part of an eight and under youth football and cheer team based out of pittsburgh. they're called mega football and cheer, and they were competing in a national tournament in naples. team leaders tell us the group was on a swamp tour when one of the boats struck. the other parents and kids were thrown into the water. >> looks like there are some underneath the boat trapped under the boat. >> at this time, at least 16 people were hospitalized, according to emergency crews. those from the team tell us that some of the victims are now back in the bay area, but around 3 or 4 people are still in the hospital. in a statement posted to their facebook page, the

group writes, we're relieved to share that as of this morning, everyone is in stable condition. however, a couple of our cherished parents face a road to recovery. we're grateful for the strength and resilience of our mega community during this challenging time. family members of one of the victims tell us their loved one broke their tailbone. other injuries included broken arms and bad cuts, but everyone survived. we reached out to the airboat company to ask how something like this could happen, but as of this broadcast, they haven't gotten back to us. they did post a statement to their website on friday saying wooten's everglades airboat tours regrets that a collision involving two airboats occurred this afternoon. they went on to say, all of us at wooten's offer our sincere sympathies to everyone involved and wish them a speedy recovery. j.r. stone abc seven news. >> investigators say an overheated battery is to blame for a fire at an apartment building in san francisco. that

fire started yesterday inside the building on minna near sixth street. no one was hurt. two dogs did have to be rescued from the apartment. firefighters say the battery caught fire while charging in september. san francisco fire officials told abc seven news the department has seen a significant increase in fires caused by lithium ion batteries. the board of supervisors is pushing to create safety standards for certain devices. >> thousands of amazon workers could walk off the job during one of the busiest weeks for holiday shopping, and gloria is at the live desk with the potential strike and how it could impact shoppers. >> good morning amanda. friday, thousands of workers at the company's first ever unionized warehouses voted to authorize a strike, claiming the tech giant has refused to negotiate a contract at the new york facilities. yesterday was the deadline that the teamsters union set for aman to start negotiations. that never happened. the workers voted to unionize in 2022, but have been working without a contract. they're asking for a minimum pay of $30 per hour and more safety protections. last

month, workers in 20 countries, including the u.s, went on strike from black friday to cyber monday as part of the make amazon pay campaign. the annual effort is now in its fifth year, aims to convince the company to increase wages and allow more workers to unionize. >> amazon squeezes everything that it can get, but it changes its behavior depending on jurisdiction. s say in sweden, it engages much better in how it operates with trade unions than in the us, where it engages in in union busting. >> in response to the potential strike in new york, amazon says for more than a year now, the teamsters have continued to intentionally mislead the public, claiming that they represent thousands of amazon employees and drivers. they don't. and this is another attempt to push a false narrative. so could amazon customers be impacted by a strike? well, if your items are already on a truck, then you should be okay. but if they're sitting at one of these two

warehouses and they have not moved yet, that is more unclear. let's go to lisa with a check of your forecast. lisa, are we expecting more rain today? >> yes, we have a level one system. you can see some moderate to heavy rain in the north bay right now around santa rosa. yesterday the flood advisory was just lifted by noontime. so the water is receding from the wild weather on saturday. and now we're expecting anywhere from a half inch to three quarters of an inch in the north bay. here you can see lighter rain, santa rosa, petaluma, and we're expecting more rain to sink to the south. the frontal band and with it some breezy winds. so right along the coast, jenner, bodega bay getting wet. and as far south there as highway 29, some wet roadways. it's going to be another maybe two hours, 7:00 until we see the rain in san francisco. but it's progressive. it moves quickly. 50 in san jose, 41 in danville. right now, the cloud cover keeping us pretty mild. we had that full moon so still bright out there despite the cloud cover, a quarter mile

visibility. livermore one mile in concord you can see vacaville at four miles. so as the frontal band moves through, the breeze picks up, it's just going to be made primarily windy along the coast, 25 to 30 miles an hour. getting into the afternoon. the winds lighten up. we've got cloud cover and the frontal band is behind us. so here's the timing on it. 730 about 8:00. we've got rain in the east bay, san francisco, and then as we head towards the later morning hours and noontime, it is beginning to exit the south bay. and after that we've got cloudy skies, calm winds, and we're dry for the evening commute. so rainfall amounts ranging from a half inch in richmond, maybe a quarter of an inch in san jose. this could be a little bit more optimistic half inch in livermore, but hopefully we could see that much in the north bay. we don't need that much, but this should be just all beneficial. rain winter weather advisory. this is heavy, wet snow right now. it's in the 30s e freezing, only expecting 2 to 4in of snow in the mountains through tonight. 57 in oakland

operations. >> the work that we're doing now by taking a temporary closure and putting together the team work to re-envision the contemporary jewish museum will enable us to have a long term future. >> and over the next couple of months, the museum will be cutting staff and closing exhibitions. the space will still be available to rent for events, which is a critical source of income in the east bay. >> a barge that appeared to drift into the emeryville crescent is now back out to sea. our emeryville camera captured this video just before 930 yesterday morning. on saturday, the barge showed up along the shoreline right by interstate 80 between emeryville and berkeley, and that was an eye catching sight for drivers on the freeway. the coast guard says that 100 foot barge, identified as the mud scow, ran aground and was resting on sand. pollution teams assessed the situation. then a tugboat had to wait until high tide to tow that vessel out. >> millions of people are

getting ready to travel these last few weeks of december and into the new year. abc news reporter reena roy has more on the best ways to plan to make your trip less stressful. >> the winter holidays are a time to spend with loved ones, and many of us will need to travel to do so. triple a projecting. nearly 120 million americans will venture out 50 miles or more between saturday, december 21st and wednesday, january 1st. stacy barber, vice president of triple a travel, says there are ways to get through it to make sure this holiday season that you preplan as much as you can. most will be driving, benefiting from lower prices at the pump. >> we are looking at pretty close to $3 national average per gallon. >> air travel is expected to hit a record high. other forms of travel include trains, busses and cruises expected to soar as well. >> we are seeing almost double digit increase in trains and cruises. cruises are up almost 15% versus this time last year. >> more will be on the road, but not all at once. >> the holidays really spans over two weeks, whereas we were

more condensed during the thanksgiving holiday and so you'll see heavier traffic, but it's not going to be in concentrated times except those weekends before christmas and new year's. >> the weekends after christmas and new years will likely see the heaviest traffic. heading back right away could help avoid the crush on the holiday itself. >> the first after you've enjoyed the festivities on new year's eve, that's definitely going to be the best time to go. >> other tips for your road trip try getting an early start. get a tune up on the car. if you're flying, try to catch the first flight of the day. flights after 9 a.m. are twice as likely to be delayed. airport services that can be arranged before your arrival should be. >> make sure that you do your parking reservations. make sure that you have the ability at some locations to pre-book your tsa. that's going to help save a lot of time. >> experts suggest building a buffer day into your itinerary if you can, and buying travel insurance to help give you some peace of mind in case you run into any delays. reena roy, abc news, new york.

more red in there too. yeah. >> somewhere in and out writing us right now. >> yeah. >> the critiques never end at abc. seven mornings. >> we're only human. right. all right. good morning everybody. we are waking up to some wet weather in the north bay. in fact, rain has been coming down pretty good there. and they did have a break while all of us had a break yesterday. but, you know, they had a flood advisory just lifted noontime sunday for sonoma county. and here we go with more heavy rain. it's just a level one and your rain will be over within the next hour or two. and then this frontal band sinks to the south and east and everyone sees some wet weather. so live doppler seven picking up on the rain in guerneville and healdsburg as we go in closer. and this is where we have the heaviest rain through windsor. highway 101. and it gets lighter as you head down towards highway 116 and not quite yet trying to move into highway 37, sears point, novato. the rest of us dry, cloudy and rain in the forecast for your morning commute at about 8:00 for san francisco and

points east, and then not until about 11:00 in the south bay, where it's 50 right now with the cloud cover, 44 san rafael. we have fog as well, with a mile visibility in concord, just a quarter mile in livermore. and notice it's better elsewhere around the bay. forecast highlights. rainy morning commute for you tuesday, wednesday, thursday and friday. dry and milder. in fact, we'll see some temperatures well into the 60s. a nice break setting up, and then by next weekend, the winter solstice, we'll see a return to some rain. too soon to tell how much rain we're expecting. breezy winds pick up with the frontal band as it passes late morning early afternoon. still have our coastal flood advisory until 1:00. that's today and we're looking at the king tides at 11:00 this morning. a little bit lower, less than seven feet. but still, it has been kind of a mess around here the past couple of days. this is the way the system is going to play out. 730 8:00 it's wet in san francisco and oakland over into concord. and then by

about 1030, 11, it's sinking to the south, pulling out of the east bay. but we've got rainy conditions from half moon bay into san jose through the noon hour, and then we're left with the cloud cover, breezy winds midday. this forecast model is the one that's pretty generous. upwards of about half an inch. another one only wants to bring in about a quarter of an inch. so splitting the difference. the highest rain totals in the north. we're expecting maybe a quarter of an inch in the south bay to the east bay. higher amounts up around the diablo range possible 2 to 4in of wet snow in the mountains there. mid 50s for most of us today with the clouds throughout the afternoon. level one system today. a nice dry stretch for us throughout the workweek. slightly milder and rain. why not over the weekend again? >> all right lisa thank you. coming up, the seven things to know this morning celebrating hanukkah a lookt the festivities happening at ghirardelli square this season. and we will take a live look outs

this morning. already spreading some pretty good rain up in the north bay, santa rosa and guerneville. and this is a cold front that's going to quickly sweep through the bay area throughout your morning commute. the heaviest rain here right now from guerneville to jenner and occidental taking you over to calistoga and saint helena. a little bit lighter, but this all will sink to the south and much of marin county through about six 7:00 will be wet. the rest of us is going to take a while. 8:00 in san francisco and the east bay. rainfall amounts about a 10th to three quarters of an inch, a lingering chance throughout the afternoon. breezy winds along the coast. so from 7:00 to 11:00, the rain increases, and then the second half of the day is dry. 44 in oakland. no rain there. 43 in fremont. we are 4 to 7 degrees milder this morning with the cloud cover. and there's fog, particularly in the east bay from livermore at a quarter mile, visibility in concord, and then rain arriving at about 8:00 there in the east bay. here it is almost 8:00, and we've got some rain over in oakland, san francisco, a

pretty good downpour and those downpours sinking to the south 9:00. and then right before noontime, lingering showers in the south bay. so it looks like a rainy morning commute for many of us. take your time out there. slippery roads. gloria. all right. >> thank you so much, lisa. well, we're going to get a live look outside right nowt our emeryville camera, and you can see that there is some traffic out there already this early in the morning, especially on westbound 80 there. and you can see all those headlights heading towards the bay bridge. so if you're going from highway four to san francisco, 35 minutes right now and looking live at our san jose camera at 101 and 880, you can see in san jose it is getting a little busy north of 101, but really pretty much an easy drive from san jose to sunnyvale heading up to the peninsula. no issues there. however, we are tracking a sigalert in south san francisco on westbound 280 right after westboro boulevard. the right three lanes are shut down because of police activity. we still don't know when they are going to reopen, but we are seeing some minor delays in

that area, so just keep that in mind if you're driving there on southbound 280 in south san francisco. amanda. >> all right. gloria. thank you. happening now. p-g-and-e's crews are still working to get the lights back on for more than 3500 customers across the bay area. they have made progress, and there are fewer dots on the outage map. as you can see, the north bay saw the worst of the outages over the weekend. p-g-and-e's tells us they restored most people's power within 12 hours thanks to crews pre-positioned in hard hit spots. >> we use our meteorology team's machine learning models to pre-stage crews, equipment and resources in those areas that are forecasted to be hardest hit and the storm came in really as strong and in the locations where it was forecasted. so we were well positioned and prepared. >> p-g-and-e's map shows most of the larger outages won't be fixed until this afternoon, and there is still quite a bit of damage in san francisco after saturday's fierce storm. several large trees are still on the

side of the road at golden gate park, waiting for crews to clear them out. the fire department responded to more than 100 calls about damage from the strong winds, toppled trees, crushed multiple cars, a rare sight that's still causing a mess in scotts valley. >> look at this tornado that tore through town saturday. santa cruz county officials say it's amazing no one was killed. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard talked to witnesses who saw the funnel cloud on the move. oh my god. >> okay. >> oh my god. it's a scene straight out of the movies. but this was real life for people in scotts valley saturday. a confirmed ef one tornado touching down on mount hermon road. ben hughes was there. >> everything was getting blown that way. cars were suddenly moving. you can see the traffic lights just leave the poles. >> the tornado touching down between two shopping centers, tearing through power lines and flipping cars over some with people inside. >> i'm like, dad, we need to go help people. so me and my dad sprinted out of target, and then we helped this lady out of her

the ferry service is still running as normal. but keep in mind riders can still take a bus through golden gate transit. they're still offering their regularly scheduled bus service connecting sonoma and marin counties to san francisco. the transit agency says they will be bringing in extra busses on route 101 to accommodate the anticipated increase in ridership. smart customers can get on at pioneer and industrial, the copeland transit mall or at redwood and grant. smart transit officials say today's closure is happening because downed trees blocked or damaged their tracks in mule spots. they have to make repairs and complete testing to prepare for the opening of the new smart petaluma north station later this year. the testing was supposed to happen this weekend with a planned closure, but the weather got in the way. if you need any help planning an alternative trip today, smart has expanded their customer service hours, opening up this morning at 4:00. and for those riders who do end up taking a

>> now to the fight to get luigi mangione back to new york to face charges. gloria. he's currently in jail in pennsylvania, but could be extradited as soon as tomorrow. >> good morning. amanda. sources tell abc news that mangione is almost certain to waive extradition from pennsylvania. a grand jury in new york could also hand down an indictment at any moment, speeding up the extradition process. abc news has also learned that mangione's mother spoke with the fbi and new york city detectives the day before his arrest last week, and she indicated that surveillance photos being circulated at the time could be her son. the task force was still working on the information when she provided. when mangione was spotted at a mcdonald's in pennsylvania and was arrested. over the weekend, mangione added a high profile defense attorney to his legal team, kieran friedman. agnifilo spent seven years as second in command at the manhattan district attorney's office before she became an attorney. she offered a preview of a potential defense strategy.

deliberations in the trial of nima momeni are set to resume this afternoon. he is accused of killing cashapp founder bob lee in april of last year. and he faces first degree murder charges. but jurors can potentially consider lesser charges, including second degree murder or voluntary or involuntary manslaughter. the jury has already deliberated for six days without a verdict. >> the diocese of oakland is back in bankruptcy court on wednesday awaiting a judge's approval. the judge could sign off on the plan to reorganize and settle hundreds of sexual abuse claims. the catholic church filed for bankruptcy protection last year, overwhelmed by lawsuits. on friday, some of those victims testified against the proposed settlement. the diocese is offering between 160 to $198 million to settle the abuse claims. >> tomorrow, the san jose city council will discuss plans for the city to potentially break off from p-g-and-e's. earlier this month, our media partner, the mercury news reported p-g-and-e's offered the city of san jose an agreement to build

the rain in sonoma, 42 in fremont, 50 with the clouds in san jose. there's our roof camera. a rainy commute because this front is on the move. so san francisco and oakland, yes, you're going to see the wet weather through about the 7 to 9:00 hour. then we're dry and milder the second half of the day tuesday, wednesday, thursday, friday and then next weekend, summer solstice, winter solstice on saturday. and we're going to look at more rain. the winds get breezy right in time or in association with that frontal passage throughout the mid to late morning hours. and here's the way it plays out today. so throughout the 7 to 9:00 hour, the wet weather is moving into san francisco, oakland, over into the east bay. and then it kind of falls apart and progresses as we get towards the later morning hours and noontime. not a whole lot for the livermore valley, but you can see the peninsula, san mateo, palo alto and san jose still getting a little bit wet through the noon hour. then the winds lighten up. they'll be about 20 miles an hour to 30 on the

for answers. as drones continue to be sighted across the northeast despite having to stop air traffic in two states over the weekend, government leaders are insisting there is no threat. abc news reporter nicole d'antonio explains how the government is responding. >> the federal government is sending additional resources to new jersey and new york to help solve the mystery behind drone sightings reported across at least seven states, from new york to maryland. >> the robin, which used not a linear line of sight, but 360 degree technology that has a much better chance of detecting these drones. >> the reports have prompted authorities to shut down an airport over the weekend. the faa confirming stewart international airport, north of new york city, temporarily closed its runway friday night after multiple reported drone sightings in the area. homeland

saint helena, calistoga. coming down at a good half inch an hour, and then it gets lighter as you head towards central marin and then down towards bolinas. not really raining at all in southern marin, the golden gate, maybe a little bit of mist and drizzle, but nothing in the east bay, the south bay, the peninsula that will change as this level one sinks to the south and through 1:00 we'll have the slick roadways, with rainfall totals anywhere from a 10th to about three quarters of an inch in the north bay, where you're getting that heavy rain. so breezy south winds mainly along the coast and a lingering chance of showers in the afternoon. it's in the 40s. we've got clouds in the south bay and fog in the east bay from a half mile visibility concord to a quarter mile in livermore. breezy winds with the frontal passage through about ten till noontime, mainly along the coast. and then look how this sinks to the south. the reds kind of disappear, but we're still getting heavy downpours from the east bay. san francisco, 730 till about 830 or 9. and then it's the south bay and
