the 15 year old girl accused of opening fire at a christian school in madison, wisconsin, killing two people and injuring six others before turning the gun on herself. good evening. thank you for joining us. i'm dan ashley. investigators say they're looking into reports of a manifesto circulating on social media, but have not yet verified its authenticity. and this comes as a prayer service was held a short time ago in madison. to remember the victims from that k through 12 school. meanwhile, late tonight, the police chief providing new information about the shooting. here's abc news reporter melissa ardern. >> a massive police response as first responders rushed to a christian school in madison, wisconsin, where police say a shooter opened fire. >> three people, including the shooter, are dead. the shooter has now been identified as 15 year old natalie romano, who went by the name samantha. she was a student at the school, and

evidence suggests she died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. she was pronounced deceased while in transport to a local hospital. a teacher and a teenage student were pronounced dead at the scene at that school. >> witnesses describing a swarm of law enforcement descending at abundant life christian school mid-morning monday. >> did you hear gunshots? yeah, i heard. tell me what happened. >> we heard them. and then some people started crying. and then we just waited till the police came. and then they escorted us out to the church. >> how many gunshots did you hear? i heard two. >> the shooting happened inside a classroom in a study hall of students from mixed grades. >> calls coming in to 9-1-1 of an active shooter. >> a second grade student called 911 to report a shooting had occurred at school. >> officers found multiple people with gunshot wounds and worked to secure the scene.

action. we have a wealth of information on there that may be helpful. all right. let's move on now and talk about the weather as we take a live look outside. and while the wet weather is moving out, a look at the foggy conditions out on the roadways. pretty murky out there. let's get the latest from abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian. spencer. >> all right, dan, we do have areas of patchy fog out there and some mist in the air and some still some damp roadway. although the storm the level one storm has ended, as you can see on live doppler seven. but we've got patchy drizzle. and this is the satellite radar composite image showing the movement of the system that brought us the rainfall. it's well to our east right now, but we have a few more clouds moving in. fog will be with us during the overnight hours. here's the forecast animation showing some areas of partial clearing overnight, but once again there will be persistent patches of fog, light to moderate fog, and maybe even some drizzle. so these are our forecast headlines overnight. once again, patchy fog and drizzle can't emphasize that enough because visibility for the morning commute

might be reduced just a bit tomorrow through friday, bright, bright skies and dry and milder conditions over the weekend. rain will return just as winter begins. i'll have the accuweather seven day forecast a little bit later. >> dan. okay, spencer, thanks very much. well, today's rainy weather did not make things easy for crews cleaning up the damage from this weekend's storm. golden gate park is just filled with downed trees. look at the size of these things. park officials say eucalyptus and oak trees fell during strong winds on saturday. no one was hurt. that's the important thing. no structures were damaged either. but the fallen trees did damage some pavement and fencing around the park. downed trees are the big story in burlingame to. mayor donna coulson shared these photos with us here at abc seven news. city crews will be back out tomorrow with heavy equipment to help with the cleanup, and the cleanup also continues in scotts valley after a rare tornado touched down on saturday. we just don't get that very often here. and while many in the bay area woke up to a tornado warning that morning, people in scotts valley did not.

mangione may be extradited to new york as early as tomorrow. he's the man accused of killing unitedhealthcare ceo brian thompson. a new york grand jury could hand down an indictment to speed that process up, but sources tell abc news mangione is almost certain to waive extradition from pennsylvania. over the weekend, mangione added a high profile defense attorney to his legal team. she says a potential defense strategy would be to plea plead a case of not guilty due to insanity. terrible story to report to you. now in the south bay, a family is mourning the loss of a six year old boy who was killed just two weeks before his seventh birthday. it happened just before 11:00 on friday night, when king holguin was hit by a car on interstate 280, in san jose. tonight, the boy's family is brokenhearted, of course, and sharing their story with abc seven news south bay reporter dustin dorsey as a soft rain falls, a flame remains lit, an

embodiment of the spirit of six year old king holguin, who tragically died friday night. >> i just want to hold him. i want i want him back, and i know he's in a better place. he was always outgoing, loving. the house is quiet without him, and i know everyone misses him and i miss him. >> somber thoughts shared with king's father with us monday, days after his son's death. king was nonverbal and autistic, and just before 11:00 friday night, highway patrol says king was hit by a car while running across two 8-80. king's family hopes to get in touch with the driver to let him know it's not his fault. they'd love to share king's story. an entrance to the highway is just steps outside of the holguin's apartment, along parkmoor avenue near lee avenue. his primary daycare provider, solis cisneros, says despite incredible efforts from his parents, king had a tendency of running away, especially when drawn to rain. >> he got out in the middle of the night when everyone was asleep, locked the door behind himself, left his ipad and just

san mateo county sheriff's office. today, the san mateo county district attorney announced that he will not file time card fraud charges against a union head who has been highly critical of sheriff christina corpus. abc seven news i-team reporter dan noyes has the latest. >> i am disgusted at how low these people will go. >> that's sheriff christina corpus. a little over a month ago, blasting a scathing audit report into her office that alleged abuse of power, intimidation and retaliation, and a personal relationship with her chief of staff. the i-team has since identified problems with the report, including missing pages from an interview transcript and outright mistakes. >> this is a hatchet job of an inquiry, which was commissioned

with a predetermined outcome. >> but on the same day the report came out. corpus took action against one of her loudest critics, arresting the president of the deputy sheriffs association on charges of time card fraud. carlos tapia self surrendered and kept speaking out. he read a statement at a news conference today. >> i'm grateful to the district attorney's office for recognizing these charges for what they were. yet another attempt at retaliation from sheriff corpus. our express loss of confidence in her administration. >> after a month of investigation, district attorney steve wagstaffe has announced he's dropping the case. >> so what? the sheriff's office had, what the investigator had. it wasn't wrong. it was simply they the investigator did not talk to the additional people in their own his own fiscal team, as well as with the county hr to find out exactly why. there were explanations for every one of

>> crews were still hard at work two days after this tornado swept through this area in scotts valley saturday. all of the damage happening in a short but frightening amount of time. >> the information that we have right now is generally less than five minutes. >> the day of the tornado, the national weather service issued a tornado warning in san francisco. a tornado there never happened, but in scotts valley it was a thunderstorm warning that was issued, not a tornado warning. >> we asked why they can get a little hard to tell with uh- on radar what's going on in the mountains, especially when you have terrain like that, it can get pretty tough to tell. >> the national weather service said that the thunderstorm warning does still call on people to seek shelter in the centermost room of a sturdy building, a warning they hope people will take seriously. >> severe thunderstorms that are rotating can produce tornadoes. you know they may not at times, as we saw in san francisco, but they are still dangerous thunderstorms. that is why we issue the separate warnings for them. >> accuweather chief meteorologist jonathan porter says even though tornadoes are rare in the rugged terrain of

santa cruz county, the thunderstorm cell that spawned the tornado was trouble from the beginning. >> in this scenario, the right conditions came together in exactly the right spot to produce this damaging tornado. >> scotts valley city manager molly legault said the city works closely with the national weather service and hopes lessons can be learned. >> they called it in san francisco and then it didn't happen. and then they saw it here and didn't think it could happen. so didn't want to maybe scare people. but i think in the future we have to realize that severe weather is real and it's happening. and just because it hasn't happened here before doesn't mean it can't happen in the future. >> the national weather service said it's in the beginning stages of its after action review, which is what they do after every weather event, to figure out what they can do better and to pore over all of the data they received from the weather event. they remind everyone to take the alerts they issue seriously because as we see, the weather events can be potentially damaging in scotts valley. zach fuentes abc seven news. >> damaging and dangerous tornado. very strange thing around here. here's a live look outside at the conditions right

now. foggy at the bay bridge toll plaza and elsewhere. abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian is back with what we can expect tomorrow and beyond. spencer. >> right, dan, the weather has not been boring here in the bay area the last few days. we have foggy spots all around the bay area right now behind that level one storm that has moved out of the area. so things are quiet as you can see on live doppler seven, but there's still quite a bit of mist left in the air and patches of fog forming, and we'll have some clouds swinging through during the overnight hours, although they'll all be away. excuse me, i'm losing my voice again. also, be some patches of clearing. here's our forecast animation starting at 1130 tonight. notice the patches of clearing i mentioned. it's not going to be a completely clear night, and there will be patches of fog to greet early morning commuters, maybe even some damp spots on the roadways because of the rain we've had earlier. but it's all over now and you can see how calm the wind is. wind speeds are under ten miles per hour all across the bay area right now, and it's a bit milder than at this time last night by about three, four, six degrees or so. so on we go to look, looking

across the embarcadero from our rooftop camera. 51 degrees right now in san francisco and oakland. hayward 4851 san jose 47, redwood city 52. at half moon bay, you can see there's some fog lingering at the golden gate right now, and you can see the pavement looks a little bit damp as well. 50 degrees up north in santa rosa, petaluma 4647 napa fairfield 49 upper 40s. also at concord and livermore. one final live view of the toll plaza or approaching the toll plaza at the bay bridge overnight. patchy fog, mist and drizzle. it's worth repeating. tomorrow through friday, bright skies, clouds here, sun there, dry and milder. the weekend will bring increasing clouds and rain returns, as well as the arrival of winter over the weekend. for tonight though, look for low temperatures mainly in the mid to upper 40s and then highs tomorrow under increasingly sunny skies, mainly 60 to about 62 degrees across the entire region. a couple of locations like antioch will not get out of the upper 50s, and a couple of other locations like san jose. morgan hill will reach mid 60s 64 degrees. here's the

accuweather seven day forecast. as you can see, it's going to be a mild week, even milder by midweek, thursday, friday and saturday. as rain develops. we'll see high temperatures in the mid 60s near the bay and inland. then it gets a little bit wet over the weekend, saturday, sunday and monday. we expect level one storms, so these will be storms of light intensity. although it looks like the saturday storm could bring a pretty good dose of rainfall, i don't know if right now we should bump it up to a level two, but it's going to be a wet weekend for sure. >> we are fond of storms of light intensity, not the best kind. >> those are the best. >> thanks, spencer very much. all right. the namesake of a popular sushi restaurant on the peninsula will serve his final rolls this month. sam, the heart and soul behind sushi sam's admati in san mateo, is retiring after 36 years, but his legacy will continue. the restaurant says on facebook that it is moving and will reopen under the name sushi automata. the last day of sushi sam's will be saturday, december 28th, just
