starts right now. check it out. a dreary day across much of the bay area. you can see that drizzle here from our mount tam cam in marin county. stronger showers are arriving as we speak. good evening and thank you for joining us. i'm dion lim. this latest round of rain is part of a parade of storms marching into the bay area.ms meteorologist frances dinglasan joining us now with more on the timing. hi, frances. >> hi, diane. yep. the rain is moving towards the north bay right now, and it will stay in the north bay over the next few hours. here's a look at live doppler seven satellite radar. lots of cloud cover all around the bay area. we're also seeing some lightning strikes off the north bay coast. about 14 lightning strikes right now, and some light rain moving in towards the north bay. it's a level one light storm on our exclusive storm impact scale. we'll see rain and showers tonight. then we get a break during the morning and then more showers tomorrow afternoon. this

does mean slick roads and there is that high surf warning now. dangerous conditions at the beaches. so even by 8:00 tonight, most of the rainfall generally north of the golden gate bridge. and then as it slides south, it kind of falls apart. and then we'll see another round tomorrow afternoon. and then we have a level two storm moving in very late monday night into tuesday. rainfall estimates vary from a few hundredths of an inch to in the south bay to over half an inch up to an inch in parts of the north bay. more rainfall totals for you in the accuweather seven day forecast coming up dion. >> all right. we'll be watching it. frances. thanks. sfo is seeing one os busiest weekends in history. and that rain, as you can imagine, is not helping. we're taking a live look now from our sfo cam, where so far today, three flights have been canceled, with 129 others delayed. yesterday, eight flights were canceled and 381 others delayed. officials expect more than 85,000 outbound passengers today. yesterday,

say were going to be used to disable antitheft sensors. officers say yesterday several suspects went to two stores at a mall in west san jose with intent to steal. police arrested two adults along with that teenage girl. morgan hill police are reminding people to drive carefully during the holidays, a time that brings increased risks on the roads. this morning, three people were killed in two separate crashes on monterey road. at about 3 a.m, a driver died in a solo accident after colliding with several trees and a fire hydrant along third street and monterey road. about six hours later. investigators say a speeding driver lost control of their car on monterey road near middle avenue, before slamming head on with another vehicle. both of those drivers died. we are following the story of united health care ceo shooting suspect luigi mang, who is expected to be arraigned on state charges in new york on monday. he also faces several federal charges. abc news

reporter jen sullivan is tracking both cases and explains what's next. >> it's a high profile case that will now likely involve two separate trials. luigi mangione faces federal charges and new york state charges in the death of united health care ceo brian thompson. mangione wasceo brian extradited thursday from pennsylvania to new york, where he faced a slew of federal charges, including a firearms offense, two stalking charges and murder, three use of a firearm. if found guilty, he faces a maximum sentence of either the death penalty or life in prison. his attorneys, dodging questions about the federal case. >> karen, do you have any comment on these charges today? not at this time. thank you so much. >> the federal criminal complaint describes chilling details about contents inside a notebook that authorities say was found on mangione when he was arrested at a mcdonald's in altoona, pennsylvania, earlier this month. according to the criminal complaint, the notebook contains several handwritten

pages that express hostility towards the health insurance industry. in one entry dated october 22nd, 2024 describes intent to, quote whack, the ceo of one of the insurance companies. >> we always talk about motive. opportunity means all three of those elements are addressed and captured in in the criminal complaint, as well as his notebook. >> mangione is expected to be arraigned in new york monday, where he faces 11 state charges, including first degree murder, as an act of terrorism was targeted, premeditated and meant to sow terror. jen sullivan, abc seven news. >> union employees at the hyatt hotel in san francisco unanimously approved a new union contract. that vote result was announced last night and ends a three month strike, bringing hundreds of employees back to work for the busy holidays. the contract agreement is the same as the one marriott union workers approved on thursday. the terms include wage increases

along with new protections against understaffing. nearly 650 workers remain on strike at the hilton hotel nearby in union square. this weekend, a's fans and the baseball world are remembering rickey henderson, the greatest athletic of all time. the hall of famer passed away friday at ucsf from complications from pneumonia and asthma. he was 65 years old and would have turned 66 on christmas day. henderson had a 25 year career in baseball and is the mlb's all time leader in stolen bases, leadoff home runs and runs scored. tributes like this one are popping up all over oakland. you can see there flowers and notes left at the baseball field of rickey's high school, oakland tech. it's called the field of dreams, as well as rickey henderson field. now he will surely be missed and forever remembered here in the bay area. you can read more about henderson's life and baseball career at our website. abc7 news.com. well, in addition

the north bay. a severe weather emergency shelter is opening tomorrow for marin county's homeless population. the overnight shelter is located at the marin health and wellness campus at 3240 kerner boulevard in san rafael. it will be open from 5 p.m. monday through 6 a.m. tuesday, and people are allowed to bring personal belongings to the shelter. there is also shelter available for families. happening now the national weather service has issued a high surf warning for the entire bay area coast. check it out. 30 to 40 foot waves are expected until tuesday afternoon. you're looking at video just in from pacifica beach. the warnings cover all pacific coast beaches, and the national weather service warns of, quote, life threatening swimming and surfing conditions and significant beach erosion. a

group in san francisco is sharing holiday cheer with local families. volunteers with the san francisco nonprofit the guardsmen gave out christmas trees for free to low income families in the bayview. the guardsmen sell christmas trees every year, with proceeds going to help at risk kids attend summer camp and after school programs. they give away any trees they have left over. >> we're trying to figure out what to do with all these extra trees, and i had the idea to create this amazing christmas tree giveaway. and here we are now we have all of our guardsmen out here in full force. >> yeah, nice to see. this is the ninth year of the giveaway. hundreds of people attended, with some starting to line up hours before the event began. just ahead, a winning move by the warriors today. even if they didn't have a game, the team helped put on a pop up market in san francisco that's helping some local families savor the season. and as we take a live look outside at the bay bridge, things look to be clear, at least from this vantage point.

is to prepare a meal for the holidays. all of part of the franchise's annual seasons of giving campaign. today, families shopped at a holiday themed pop up at chase center. it was all part of the warriors swishes for dishes, a season long campaign which serves a million meals each year to underserved families. >> every single time the warriors score a point during the season, 100 meals gets revised to bay area families in need. and so, of course, we got to come off the holidays and make sure these families get their meals. >> yeah, what a nice turnout. former warrior kelenna azubuike was there to help pack groceries and take pictures with fans. his nonprofit, the athletes corner, also shared his wife's gourmet cornbread at the event. gosh so much holiday food everywhere to drool over including people bringing food here at the station. cookies. the rum cake

was so good. >> so good. not good for our belly? not so much. but what is good for us is right now we are getting some beneficial rain at this point. it's a live look right now. that's what we're starting with live doppler seven and satellite radar image. so the north bay has already received a few hundredths of an inch in just the last couple hours, and most of the rainfall will fall in the north bay. we are getting some lightning strikes off the coast as well, but no lightning strikes over land right now. most of the temperatures generally in the 50s right now. san francisco 57, oakland 59. san jose really mild at 65 degrees. and here's a live look from the exploratorium looking out towards the bay bridge. notice the winds have been really calm. so we have a light storm tonight and tomorrow afternoon. the brunt of this rainfall is going to hit the north bay today and tonight until midnight. then tomorrow we'll get some showers in the afternoon. really, we need to get ready for a stronger storm. a level two storm on tuesday that starts

close to midnight on tuesday and continues through the afternoon. gusty rain with thunderstorms likely and then wednesday. some better news. finally a dry day. it will be cool though, for christmas and the start of hanukkah. and i'll show you that with the accuweather seven day forecast. overnight lows generally in the 50s for the most part, with san francisco and oakland at 55, so almost mid 50s for everyone. a little cooler in some spots like lakeport and ukiah. and we'll have fog once again, especially along the coast. and then tomorrow's highs will be on the mild side. temperatures mostly in the 60s in the north bay, low 60s. but you notice as we head farther south, it gets warmer. they're also going to get less rain. and that's where they might even get a little bit more breaks in the cloud cover. and that's why temperatures are coming up to almost near 70 degrees in san jose. so level two storm that's heading our way very late monday night closer to midnight almost.

and then continues through tuesday morning and tuesday afternoon. generally, most areas will get over half an inch to up to an inch of rain. thunderstorms could increase rainfall totals and winds will be very gusty. up to 45mph. there will also be very dangerous surf conditions. as dion mentioned, there is a high surf warning. so here's a look at the forecast animation. a lot of the rainfall, the heaviest rainfall especially indicated here by the reds and oranges, will fall between midnight and five in the morning. and then it starts to move to the east 9:00 in the morning, already drying out by 3:00. we'll get a good break. but what you'll notice is snow in the sierra, so avoid driving to and from the sierra on tuesday, with a winter weather advisory in effect throughout that day. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so we have some rain tomorrow afternoon, but then we have that gusty system level two on tuesday.

looking good on wednesday before more showers continue through the rest of the accuweather seven day forecast into sunday. >> well, just before the 40 niners took the field in miami, they were officially eliminated from playoff contention. so nothing left to play for this season. but pride a memorable moment for brock purdy, though he grew up cheering for the dolphins because his father was a big dan marino fan, and before the game, purdy was finally able to meet marino. what a moment. purdy wears number 13 because of the dolphins legend. niners down three, nothing after a quarter. and brock purdy he's going to find a guy who's been wanting the ball. deebo samuel fights his way in for just his second receiving touchdown of the year. he finished with seven catches for 96 yards. big game for him. the dolphins, coached by former niners offensive coordinator mike mcdaniel. so lots of former niners on this team, including raheem mostert aka the monster roddy. here he is picking up the first and some that helps set up the dolphins first touchdown of

the game. tyreek hill going a somersault in niners down three at the half. but the santa niners they're still faithful in miami. down nine in the fourth. purdy finds backup tight end eric saubert for his first td of the year. everybody excited for him. even purdy clapping. niners crawl within two points. still within two at the two minute warning. purdy hit purdy and is picked off. oh no christmas. not so merry this year for the faithful. the dolphins with the late td to make the margin bigger than it looks. niners lose 2917, dropping to six and nine and now guaranteed a losing record as well as missing the playoffs. >> you start thinking about the plays that could have changed the game. you know, get some points up on the board, get some momentum. and so when you walk off the field, it's like, dang it. you know we had plenty of opportunities and we didn't finish. so yeah it hurt. at the end of the day i look at you
