2009. that christmas eve winter blast making for slick roads for last minute travellers from philadelphia, new york to boston. in new york city a man was killed after getting out of his vehicle after a minor accident and pinned by another driver. technical problems forced an american airlines to ground flights nationwide for an hour. >> i was a little worried when i saw the new, looks good for now. santa claus is coming through. >> 5,000 flights delayed yesterday. some of them thanks to a ground stop in dallas. storms bettering the area. the weather service warning residents to be on the look out for flooded roads, texas, oklahoma and louisiana bracing for damaging winds and tornados. >> storms expected to bring a lot more precipitation to the west coast. 6 inches of rain and snow in some areas.

lots of winter weather, thank you andrew. >> former president bill clinton released from a dc hospital in time for christmas. he was treated for the flu during a one day stay after developing a fever. turning to the terrifying boat explosion in fort lauderdale one person is confirmed to have died monday night and we hear from witnesses rushing to help. >> reporter: this morning authorities in fort lauderdale trying to figure out what caused the deadly explosion, captured by an earth cam webcam. the boat nearly splitting in half ripping apart in a ball of fire while docked at the arena monday night. >> we received multiple calls from people saying there was a boat exploding, people were in the water. water. >> a local restaurateur saw the explosion and rushed to help. >> one guy was on fire, another in the water. it was chaos at someone. >> reporter: one person killed.

five injured. three of them with traumatic injury. >> two boats on fire. >> newly released video from a firefighters helmet shows crews racing to douse the flames in the water. >> keep it there on the fire there. >> reporter: hours after the blast, the blackened remains of the boat visible below the surface. it's not clear what sparked the explosion. officials will get a better idea once they lift what is left of the boat out of the water. officials identified the person killed as a 41-year-old man from quebec canada. thank you, we are following breaking news, a plane crash out of the kazakhstan, around 70 people on board the azerbaijan flight headed to russia, half survived. there was fog in the area, the cause of the crash is u investigation. we'll fono it. follow it, here is a look at

friends at national gee graphic take us inside to show how it's been restored to its brilliance glory. millions watches as the spire atop the notre dame toppled down. now, getting rare access to the cathedral as 200 worked to restore the landmark. this is one of the few allowed to document the restoration. >> because of lead contamination on the site they set up barriers and locker roomsless. you had to take off-street growths and put on has mat suits. it was a hive of activity. >> reporter: after days of work, it's open. >> the initial construction of the cathedral took over 180 years. amazing that france took an old know how that was not lost and the latest technology combining

be a musician there was a side of her that could be incredibly abusive. i wasp frightened of her. that never changed. i wanted to leave my childhood behind and it caught up with me. i realized i put everything into my working there was nothing underneath it. i was a void. >> reporter: reflecting on what he's overcome on the rise to fame he remembered the bonds he had. >> robin: you talked about being on stage. it was electrifying for you, how did it impact you creatively in other ways that you don't have the time on the stage." >> it's wonderful. when i finished my tour in stockholm. i was excited and happy. i wanted to end playing and singing as well as i had if not better. i don't miss going on tour. i'm 77. i've down 4,500 shows, i've done how many flights, i have two young boys, david my husband.
