problems on what he called a malaise in the american and a spirit. internationally, president carter was influential in efforts to make peace in the middle east, encouraging a treaty between israel and egypt with the camp david accords. but the event that seemed to doom his presidency was the taking of 52 american hostages at the u.s. embassy in iran. they were held for 444 days. released just hours after carter left office. yet carter launched a post-presidency that many would consider more productive than his four years in office. in 1981, he established the carter center, sponsoring programs to promote human rights in the third world and monitoring elections in developing democracies. the former president and his wife volunteered their time and energy building low income housing for habitat for humanity. in 1997, carter was asked about his legacy.

it had me thinking about, why don't we take a trip down memory lane? let's go back to december 28th, 1992 at candlestick park and another monday nighter against the detroit lions. joe montana played his final game in a forty-niners uniform. he was returning from an elbow injury, went 15 to 2126 yards, two touchdowns. joe cole was then traded to the chiefs ahead of the 1993 season, where he ended up finishing his hall of fame career. as for this matchup, niners won't make the playoffs for the first time since the 2020 season. and while no matter what the results for the lions, the division and the number one seed in the nfc won't be decided until next week when they host sam darnold and the vikings. but neither coach plans on taking it

easy. >> and this is your job. you're putting on a 40 niners uniform. and yeah, all of us get intorm. this because we want to make that tournament and have a chance to get to a super bowl, and a lot of our guys haven't been in that situation before. so they're not used to it. but teams all over the league are in this situation, and you've still got to go out there and perform the same way. because once you start thinking that there's not a reason to go out there and play your best, that's when you're usually closer to the end than the beginning. >> i'll make this easy for everybody. that way all the critics can jump out and start attacking, but that way you don't have to debate them anymore. we're bringing everything we got to this game and we are playing, and i don't care what it looks like and where it's at or who's this, who's that? we're going out to play and win this game out on the west coast. so there you go. >> gotta love dan campbell. we've got the 40 niners and lions right here on abc seven. 5-5-5 kickoff tomorrow night, immediately followed by after the game with larry and mike. i'll be down at levi's stadium with your postgame reports. all
