abc seven news at 11. as we count down to the new year, we have team coverage tonight from new year's celebrations across the bay area. and we're tracking your fireworks forecast as well. we'll begin with abc seven news reporter j.r. stone live in san francisco with the crowds ready for the midnight fireworks display. j.r. happy new year. >> a happy new year to you, dan. you can smell the street dogs out here. the crowds have gotten bigger and bigger over the course of the last few hours. and i want you to go off over my shoulder here. and you can see all of the people on the south side of the ferry building. this is one of the best spots when it comes to seeing those fireworks that will go off at midnight. and boy, we still got a couple of hours or a little less than a couple of hours, but come midnight it will be shoulder to shoulder. in this area. it is already been a busy day here in san francisco. exercising is key for five and a half year olds like alia. we're trying to stay awake long enough to see the fireworks in san francisco. the

fireworks don't go off until midnight. do you think you'll still be awake? >> oh, of course i am. i like fireworks, they're beautiful. and i'm not scared because they're amazing. >> just don't ask any of these little ones why we're all so excited about staying up late on this one night. you hear about this whole new year's eve thing. it's like it's going to be a new year tomorrow. have you heard about it? no, i did not. but to many who packed fisherman's wharf tuesday, they are well aware of the new year and what comes with it. it took only one, two, yes, three interviews before we started talking politics. >> we hear the president, he said he's going to make america great again. you know what i'm saying? so i want to see if he's going to make america great again. you know what i'm saying? while that's going on making america great again, what about our bank accounts? you know what i'm saying? make that great again to out of towners, though. >> they rang in the new year with some san francisco fun spinning around on these things,
10:03 pm
eating street dogs, taking pictures with new friends, holding hands and kissing before a boat ride under the golden gate. >> then i'm going on a san francisco love tour on a vw bus goes from the park. >> maybe you'll find love too. >> well, i am single. >> oh, there we go. possibilities are endless. i see you have a boyfriend here. is there anything specific with your love life going on that you're hopeful for? hint, hint. hopefully he's not listening one day. >> married. but that's always the goal. we're trying to finish our education. so if anyone's out there who needs to finish their education, and i heard him say definitely to that love, of course, of course. we're always looking forward to that. >> others just focused on their newfound family love in 2025. >> i'm just excited because my daughter is barely one year old. just make more memories with her. making memories with my with my husband as well. he's my

our first child. >> so congratulations. >> thank you. >> and back out here live at the ferry building. big crowds already out here. and you can see that traffic is starting to stack up. probably a much different story in an hour from now when people are frantically trying to get down here. a lot of the parking lots. if you are coming down here, you're going to have to park a distance away, because already all of the parking lots within 3 or 4 blocks of the ferry building are packed to the brim with no spaces left. and then also, if you're coming out, be safe. we've already come across numerous people who are heavily intoxicated today though, but it's a happy new year and it's an exciting night out here in san francisco. dan, now back to you in the studio. yeah. >> happy everyone. have fun. we just want everyone to be safe. of course jr thank you very much. well taking a live look now at the embarcadero as we wait for those fireworks. the big question will skies be clear enough to see them? abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian is here with your new

year's new year's eve forecast. spencer, unlike new york, it's not raining here. but will we see the fireworks? >> dan i think we will. you know, we had quite a bit of cloud cover tonight, but it was mainly really high clouds and now they're thinning out a bit. check this out. here's the forecast animation starting at 1030. notice that by 11 we'll see more clearing. fewer clouds, 1130. even clearer still. and that pattern continues right on through that midnight hour when we expect to see the fireworks. so i think that we have a good chance of having good viewing conditions. meanwhile, later tonight after the fireworks are over, of course, frost advisory in effect for many of the inland valleys and the hills of the bay area until 9:00 tomorrow morning, temperatures dropping down to about 3233 degrees in the coldest locations. i'll give you a closer look at that and the accuweather seven day forecast for the new year coming our way in just a few minutes. >> dan, it is here. thanks, spencer very much. on the peninsula. redwood city rang in the new year early with a music and light show. lasers lit up the sky. counting down to midnight on the east coast so they didn't have to stay up

10:07 pm
>> and i like video games, so new video games coming out, that's always a good one. >> iwamura says being here with his kids is an early start to his new year resolution for 2025. >> i was worried that as years goes on and you get older, you get slower. i'm hoping i just get enough energy to be able to keep up with them. >> in redwood city, anser hassan, abc seven news. >> well, happy new year, charlie brown in the north bay. they couldn't wait until midnight for this peanuts themed celebration at santa rosa's charles m schulz museum. a jean schulz, the widow of peanuts creator charles m schulz, attended the party this afternoon along with some of the peanuts gang, snoopy and woodstock and the rest that is fun. well, rain could not dampen the spirits tonight in times square, a huge crowd turned out for the traditional ball drop to welcome in 2025. this is the last new year's for this particular ball. it is being retired and replaced. it has been in use since 2008. and stick around after the news here. as new year's rockin eve

10:14 pm
that will no longer be the case. california is also looking to do more to protect kids from social media addiction. a new law makes it illegal for platforms to knowingly provide addictive algorithmic feeds to children without parental consent. also, social media companies cannot send notification while kids are at school or between midnight and 6 a.m. today, a federal judge blocked a legal challenge to the law. a group argued it violated the first amendment. and our final advancer here tonight. the healthy homework act takes effect in the new year. while it does not ban homework, it does urge schools to come up with policies that consider the health impact homework has on students. it also encourages input from parents, teachers and the kids themselves. the act was authored by a santa clara assembly member. recent surveys show that homework is a top stressor for students who also take effect. you could soon own a private island in solano county as it

or 51 degrees, also at oakland, hayward, san jose and mid to upper 40s at redwood city and half moon bay. and another clear view from relatively clear from mount tam, looking down into the bay. mid to upper 40s at santa rosa, petaluma, napa, fairfield, concord and livermore. the prospect of good viewing conditions is getting better. so these are our forecast headlines. fair skies for fireworks tonight friday showers will move in with some light rain. then on the weekend, look for sunnier and drier weather as we go into the first weekend of it's going to be cold overnight. we have a frost advisory in effect until 9 a.m. for the north bay interior, mountains and valleys for the east bay interior valleys, and for the eastern santa clara hills. temperatures drop down to around 3334 degrees. of course, frost can form at that temperature, and it can damage sensitive plants overnight. low temperatures more specifically 34 at santa rosa, mainly mid to upper 30s in the inland east bay. certainly mid 30s down in the south bay. and we'll see lows right in the low 40s around the bay shoreline highs tomorrow mainly upper 50s to about 60. but in the

south bay a little bit milder. we'll see 63 at san jose, 62 at morgan hill. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so a nice start a quiet start to the new year tomorrow. then on thursday a little bit milder. but on friday clouds increase and there's a chance of a very good chance of light rain and showers. so we're going to label this a level one storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. over the weekend, skies get sunnier and it gets drier. but going into early next week, we get a little bit of a warming trend. not not a big warm up, but we'll take 60 or 62, over 56 or 58 anytime. we'll
