piece on laos, and i'm intrigued because i have a feeling that will be white lotus part 33 or something. so yeah, get get on it now. okay. exactly. another piece of new york times has done recently. i was fascinated because i happen to love rick steves, the travel writer, and, you know, watch his pbs show for so many years, use his books, and you have a very good piece interviewing him. and so he is one of these people that taught me never to check a bag. and i know this is a big debate that you've had with even your own, you know, travel staff at the new york times. you are team check a bag, defend your position, miss. >> haha. you know, i know that i'm in the minority on this one, but i will tell you one i just like i check the bag, i'm free. i don't have to lug the thing around with me. i don't have to pull it through the airport. i don't have to worry about where it is. but really, the thing that i love about checking a bag is that i don't have to fight with people for space

in the overhead bins, and that has become such a fraught experience, and there's so much anger and resentment among people just for that space in the bins. and, you know, and this has been created by the airlines charging people to check bags. and but i just i want to get out of that battle, leave me to the side. >> no. okay. i understand that argument. although at s point, amy, don't you have status where you're boarding first? >> you know, i fly economy most of the time, actually, basically all the time. every now and then i might get an u but i don't. i'm not a front of the plane person. you know, the new york times is not a front of the plane, but you can have status. >> you can be an economy and still have status and board pretty close to the beginning. and yeah, and fight for that space. >> but even so, it's like i'd rather i'd rather just be out of it. >> okay, you know what? i hear
4:48 pm
your argument. can i please make my argument? >> go ahead. >> and that is i know this has happened to you too, that i have had my luggage lost enough times at this point, which can absolutely ruin your trip. i mean, maybe they'll get it to you in 24 hours or so, but already that you're wasting like a whole day of your trip getting involved in this. the other thing is, i've also had my trip totally changed by the airline when i get there. where now a flight has been canceled or it's been severely delayed. but if i have my luggage with me, i haven't checked it yet. i can very easily move to a different flight, move to a different airline and figure it out. i think it just gives you more possibilities, i hear that, i hear you and actually, you know, if i'm going for a weekend or something. >> yeah, i carry on. but this is if i'm going, you know, like i'm going to europe for two weeks or something. >> i want to talk to you about solo travel, because i've been hearing a lot more about this recently. i haven't really done this outside of, you know, business related travel, but there are a lot of folks who are choosing this.
4:49 pm
>> it's definitely a trend that we are seeing. and if you look at like tour companies, if you look at cruises, more and more of them are finding ways to accommodate solo travelers. you know, the thing on a cruise has always been if you're solo, you had to pay this single upgrade fee and they're getting rid of those. and i think it's, you know, and one of the really interesting things that we've heard is that a lot of this is driven by women, and a lot of it is driven by older women. and i think they're like, tired of waiting around for their husbands to get off the couch. and they want to go. and they're like, if i don't have somebody to go with, i'll go. and especially people will go on group trips because there's a little more safety and there's the feeling, okay, i'll go and i'll meet interesting people and i'll have somebody to share my trip with. but i can do what i want and go where i want. >> i'm wondering over your many years of travel and

travel writing, if there ist of a mindset that you would wish that more americans traveling, especially abroad, would adopt. >> i mean, i think the thing that we all need is patience and openness. i think you really have to open yourself up to travel in order to have travel be meaningful, and that if you go and you expect, you know, italy or norway or wherever, you're going to be the same as the united states, then why are you going there? and you really have to be willing to experience the new and take it in and not be, you know, rigid in your expectations. >> so i want to ask you, you know, are you team pack a bag? >> yeah. yeah, i think so. >> you try and check it i try to check it. >> but it's so hard. yeah. you know, just a couple pairs of shoes take up a whole bag. i

new and doing something you've never done before. it's an entertainment show combined with talking about something we all love, as well as honoring and paying tribute to the players that have played it and the fans that enjoy it. >> and this show is going to be performed before a live studio audience saw the fans right here. and i got to tell you, he's also going to be using this entire studio. so how does a pro athlete make the transition to late night television? >> i actually went to an improv studio out in la. i went to upright citizens brigade, and i didn't do any of the improv comedy, but they do a set essentially up and do a monologue, and you kind of improvise a story on the spot. so we did some things to try and prepare for situations like this and get a little bit more comfortable. >> the first guests are all well known names around the country, and in philadelphia, where the show is produced. it's also a family affair with his pregnant wife, kylie. part of the act. >> i've always been a fan of this type of humor, so to be doing and incorporating things like that on a much lower quality level, unfortunately due
