give an update on the massive fire at the moss landing battery plant as they monitor the air quality, and san francisco mayor daniel lurie gets a demonstration of just how prepared city firefighters are in case they're needed to respond to a major emergency. abc seven news starts now. >> always live abc seven news starts right now. >> thanks so much for joining us i'm dion lim. we begin tonight with a developing story out of the east bay. police on the scene of a possible triple stabbing in berkeley. we are still working to gather details, but police tell us it all began with a fight at acton and began burnett streets just before 1230 this afternoon. witnesses say they saw at least three people covered in blood. video from the scene also shows a coroner's van at the location. several streets in that area are shut down while the detectives investigate. meantime, the flames are out at the moss landing battery plant, where a fire broke out thursday night. that update from officials in monterey this

afternoon. they say the epa is currently monitoring the air quality for hydrogen fluoride and other particulates. they add the most hazardous air is believed to be close to the plant itself, and monitoring systems haven't detected any risks. the cause of that fire is under investigation. moving to southern california, where crews faced slightly warmer temperatures with moderate humidity today. but the two largest wildfires did not grow. the eaton fire, which devastated altadena and forced evacuations through pasadena, has charred more than 14,000 acres and is now 73% contained. the palisades fire, which has burned more than 23,700 acres, is 43% contained. some evacuation orders have been lifted, allowing thousands of families to return to their homes. while firefighters do have the upper hand on containment, for now, there's the threat of another round of santa ana winds next week. the wildfires in los angeles have

raised questions about san francisco's readiness when it comes to an emergency. the city says it is ready to respond to a disaster. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard was at a unique event today to get a look at the fire department's innovative technology and water supply. >> reporter water power on display along san francisco's embarcadero, the san francisco fire department showing off its unique firefighting tools like the saint francis fire boat, essentially a floating fire hydrant on the bay. >> imagine a fire under that pier. this can the fire boat can get in really close and extinguish fires in pier areas. >> new fire chief dean crispin giving mayor daniel lurie a tour outside fireboat station 35 and a demonstration of the city's high pressure fire hydrant system. it's no coincidence that this demo drill is happening in the wake of the southern california wildfire disaster. many locals are asking, how ready is san francisco? >> i'm getting this question a lot. in our first ten days in

office. >> lurie believes the city is ready. >> we have a fully staffed fire department. we have over 200 cisterns, including new ones on the west side. >> in an emergency, the city has an unlimited water supply from the bay using submersible pumps. >> right now you're seeing a essentially fire engine in the water, pumping water to the fire tender hose tender. >> this hose tender truck is new for the department. it can pump 5500 gallons of water per minute versus a typical fire engine, which pumps 1500 gallons. >> we're very lucky. we have a primary water supply, which is essentially our domestic water supply. those are the white hydrants that you see in almost on every corner in san francisco. we have a secondary water supply which is specifically used for firefighting. >> after two very stressful weeks, we decided to come here to stay with our friends. >> elaine tsang and her family are visiting from west l.a. luckily, they didn't evacuate their home, but she was very

surprised to see this fire drill demo happening. >> i think that's the right thing to do. that's what we need. i hope la has prepared better for the wildfires we had. >> the mayor says real time drills like this are happening every weekend across the city, and so we will be vigilant. >> we will stay on top of it. that's my commitment to the people of san francisco. we have to keep them as safe as possible. >> in san francisco, cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> in the oakland hills, neighbors are learning how to make their homes resilient to fire threats. a demonstration was put on by a montclair neighborhood firewise group. with the help of some experts and local fire officials. they taught about 20 people about home hardening and how to create defensible space around their houses. >> i think the la fires just touched the heart of every single californian, because we live with that fear all the time. i think it's really important that people remember that it can happen to you and it could happen tomorrow. so be educated and be ready.

>> they also explained how residents can make changes to their homes with more fire resistant materials. president elect donald trump tells abc news he plans to travel to california on friday, or sometime early next week, to visit the wildfire stricken areas. today, he took off from palm beach, florida, headed to washington, d.c, d of the weekend's inauguration celebrations. his second inauguration is undergoing some last minute changes. those ceremonies now being moved inside amid some frigid temperatures, set to hit the nation's capital. here's abc news reporter maryalice parks. >> donald trump returning to washington this weekend as he prepares for his second inauguration. the president elect announcing he's moving monday's inauguration events indoors, citing an arctic blast sweeping the country. i don't want to see people hurt or injured in any way. trump writing on truth social. therefore, i have ordered the inauguration address, in addition to prayers and other speeches to be delivered in the united states capitol rotunda.

workers now busy building aw indoor stage. the massive outdoor platform was capable of holding more than a thousand people, but the rotunda will only be able to hold several hundred guests. the joint congressional inaugural committee, acknowledging the vast majority of ticketed guests, will not be able to attend the ceremonies in person in the new location. among those who will be allowed in, people with tickets for the presidential platform and members of congress. >> i, ronald reagan, do solemnly swear. >> the last indoor inauguration was 40 years ago, in 1985. the temperature was just seven degrees as ronald reagan was sworn in for his second term. there were also no longer be an inaugural parade on monday down pennsylvania avenue. instead, after his swearing in, the president will travel to the nearby capital one arena and hold a celebration event. as he was preparing to depart palm beach for washington. the president elect spoke with abc's rachel scott on the phone about a number of topics, including his inaugural address, and said the themes will be unity, strength and fairness. amid the

preparation for monday's inaugural events. protesters took to the streets in the nation's capital. >> i'm here to protest the trump administration. we still get a say as to what's going on in this country, and this is the day to do that. >> the people's march took place saturday, a rebranding of the 2017 women's march, a progressive movement aiming to bring attention to issues around lgbtq and reproductive rights, as well as environmental protection. >> we need to promote equality for all, and we're not there yet and we need to get there. >> maryalice parks, abc news, washington. >> now, speaking of, in our area, hundreds turned out for the people's march in san francisco. rally goers gathered at 24th and bryant streets, then marched to dolores park, where they briefly blocked an intersection. organizers billed it as a day to support progressive rights, with a focus on immigration, the economy, women's rights and other personal freedoms. another group also held a rally in alameda today. nationally, there were

of which i am about to enter. so help me god. so help me god. congresswoman lateefah simon and her mother. >> so good. >> there you heard it. former longtime congresswoman barbara lee passing the torch to the east bay's new representative, lateefah simon. a community swearing event was held at the grand lake theater in oakland this afternoon, where simon was ceremonially sworn in by vice president kamala harris on january 7th in washington, dc. simon replaces barbara lee in representing california's 12th congressional district. president elect donald trump tells abc news he is likely going to grant tiktok a 90 day extension to avoid a ban in the u.s. tiktok says the app, which has 170 million american users,

southern california's wildfires. a crew from oakland's urban compassion project distributed pet supplies to fire refugees.

they went to a local hotel and a ymca with the donated supplies. they're working with other organizations and animal shelters to coordinate the distribution. if you'd like to support their efforts, you can donate pet supplies along with water and funds online to the urban compassion project. relief efforts are also happening on the slopes this weekend. take a look at this. palisades tahoe is holding a special three day fundraiser for those impacted by the fires. the resort is selling lift tickets for $99 and donating 100% of sales to relief efforts. on top of that, palisades tahoe and its parent company are both matching the donations, meaning every ticket sold gets tripled in value. we do have a programing note. we're highlighting stories about the strength of human kindness, selflessness and heroism in the wake of the fire. you can tune in tomorrow at 630 for socal strong as we share special coverage from l.a, and i think that is the silver lining is seeing how many people have come together to really donate and

help people get back on their feet. >> so true, diane, such an outpouring of goodwill and in a very difficult time, of course. but these tough times tend to bring out the best in human nature. and we're seeing that now. it's just just great. yeah. >> and we're seeing good weather. so anybody who happens to be doing any of that philanthropy can do so outside the weather is amazingly beautiful. >> it's a little bit chilly here in the bay area, but if that's all we have to complain about, we have nothing to complain about. the high pressure that you see here on the satellite radar image is the controlling factor in our weather will be for the next several days, bringing us nice clear skies. and of course it's going to bring us some breezy weather later in the forecast period. monday tuesday looks like we may get some gusty offshore winds which will warm us up a little bit. right now though, we're looking at calm wind as wind speeds generally under ten miles per hour and the 24 hour temperature change shows us a few degrees warmer in most bay area locations than at this time yesterday. six degrees warmer, in fact, over in livermore, three degrees warmer in hayward. so you get the picture right now as we look out over san

francisco from sutro tower, 53 degrees here in the city, 55 in oakland, hayward, 5659 at san jose, redwood city, 57 and 48. a chilly 48 at half moon bay looking at the western sky. 56 right now in santa rosa. mid 50s also at petaluma and napa, down to 52 in fairfield 55 concord livermore up to 58 degrees. and looking at the. well, i couldn't hold on to that shot, but looking at the setting sun from the sutro tower camera. no, not from sutro. rather it's from the east bay hills camera. these are our forecast headlines. next few days we'll see a continuation of the pattern we had this morning. morning fog followed by relatively cool afternoons. then it starts to get windy early next week, mainly in the north bay and mainly in the hills, but we may see isolated gusts ranging from 30 to about 40mph. and the next chance of rain looks like around the end of the month, because the next seven days aren't going to bring us any rainfall at all now. a beach hazards statement will be in effect from 7:00 tonight to 7:00 monday evening. wave heights are elevated and the surface

a bit rough, so that means dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and an increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. so bear that in mind. if you're near the coastline, you may want to put some distance between you and the waves. here's our forecast animation. starting at 11:00 tonight, we'll see a little bit of a push of clouds across the bay and locally inland. so we'll start the day tomorrow morning, much like we did today with a little bit of cloud cover. but those clouds will burn back quickly, giving us a mainly sunny afternoon. overnight, low temperatures will be mainly in the low 40s near the bay, actually a few upper 30s to at fremont and santa and san mateo, so it will be a bit chilly in our inland areas and near the bay. highs tomorrow, mainly mid to upper 50s. it's hard to find any location that will break the 60 degree mark tomorrow, except down in the south bay, where san jose and morgan hill will top out at about 62. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast just monday mlk day looking nice and beautiful and sunny but breezy to gusty. as i mentioned, that pattern may hold into

they could use some home cooking right about now. it's a tight race in the west, and with the win over the wizards tonight, the dubs can jump to above 500. on paper, golden state should be able to get it done. washington is one of the worst teams in the league at guarding the perimeter, and have won just six games on the year. steph curry has nailed six plus triples in three of his last five starts. the dubs aren't exactly where they want to be this season, but say there's no need to hit the panic button quite yet. >> this team is in a good s, you know. and you know, we had some ups and downs, but i think that we're going to be able to turn the corner. i know we i know we all preach that because we all believe that we're going to turn the corner and uh- take one game at a time and keep moving forward.
