monitor the air quality. and san francisco mayor daniel lurie gets to see firsthand just how prepared city firefighters are in case they're needed to respond to a major emergency. >> abc seven news always live abc seven news starts right now. >> good evening and thanks for joining us. i'm dion lim. we begin tonight with the developing story out of the east bay. a woman is dead and two men are hurt after a triple stabbing in berkeley this afternoon. the two men are expected to survive. police say that stabbing happened as they were investigating a report about a stolen car on russell street, near acton. they say as they were headed to that scene, they began to get 9-1-1 calls about people bleeding on the ground. several streets in that area were shut down while detectives investigated. this is berkeley's first homicide of the year. the flames are out, but smoke is still rising from a smoldering lithium battery storage plant at moss landing. officials in

monterey gave an update this afternoon, and they say the epa is currently monitoring the air quality around the facility for toxic particulates, and that monitoring systems haven't detected any risks. they also say about 80% of the buildings and batteries burned. fire broke out at the battery plant on thursday night, and the cause of that fire is still under investigation. in southern california, crews faced slightly warmer temperatures with moderate humidity today, but the two largest wildfires did not grow. the eaton fire, which devastated altadena and forced evacuations through pasadena, has charred more than 14,000 acres and is now 73% contained. the palisades fire, which has burned more than 23,700 acres, is 43% contained. some evacuation orders have been lifted, allowing thousands of families to return to their homes. while firefighters do have the upper hand on containment for now. there is the threat of another round of

santa ana winds next week. the wildfires in los angeles have raised questions about san francisco's readiness when it comes to an emergency. the city says it is ready to respond to a disaster. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard was at a unique event today to get a look at the fire department's innovative technology and water supply. >> reporter water power on display along san francisco's embarcadero. the san francisco fire department, showing off its unique firefighting tools like the saint francis fire boat, essentially a floating fire hydrant on the bay. >> imagine a fire under that pier. this can the fire boat can get in really close and extinguish fires in pier areas. >> new fire chief dean crispin giving mayor daniel lurie a tour outside fireboat station 35 and a demonstration of the city's high pressure fire hydrant system. it's no coincidence that this demo drill is happening in the wake of the southern california wildfire disaster. many locals are asking, how

ready is san francisco? >> i'm getting this question a lot. in our first ten days in office. >> lurie believes the city is ready. >> we have a fully staffed fire department. we have over 200 cisterns, including new ones on the west side. >> in an emergency, the city has an unlimited water supply from the bay using submersible pumps. >> right now you're seeing a essentially fire engine in the water, pumping water to the fire tender hose tender. >> this hose tender truck is new for the department. it can pump 5500 gallons of water per minute versus a typical fire engine,ute which pumps 1500 gallons. >> we're very lucky. we have a primary water supply, which is essentially our domestic water supply. those are the white hydrants that you see in almost on every corner in san francisco. we have a secondary water supply which is specifically used for firefighting. >> after two very stressful weeks, we decided to come here to stay with our friends.

>> elaine zang and her family are visiting from west l.a. luckily, they didn't evacuate their home, but she was very surprised to see this fire drill demo happening. >> i think that's the right thing to do. that's what we need. i hope la has prepared better for the wildfires we had. >> the mayor says real time drills like this are happening every weekend across the city, and so we will be vigilant. >> we will stay on top of it. that's my commitment to the people of san francisco. we have to keep them as safe as possible. >> in san francisco, cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> in the oakland hills, neighbors are learning how to make their homes more resilient to fire threats. a demonstration was put on by a montclair neighborhood firewise group. with the help of some experts and local fire officials. they taught about 20 people about home hardening and how to create defensible space around their houses. >> i think the la fires just touched the heart of every single californian, because we live with that fear all the time. i think it's really important that people remember

that it can happen to you and it could happen tomorrow. so be educated and be ready. >> they also explained how residents can make changes to their homes with more fire resistant materials. president elect donald trump tells abc news he plans to travel to california on friday, or sometime early next week, to visit with wildfire stricken areas. today, he took off from palm beach, florida, headed to washington, d.c, ahead of this weekend's inauguration celebrations. his second inauguration is undergoing some last minute changes, though the ceremonies are being moved inside amid some frigid temperatures set to hit the nation's capital. here's abc news reporter maryalice parks. >> donald trump returning to washington this weekend as he prepares for his second inauguration. the president elect announcing he's moving monday's inauguration events indoors, citing an arctic blast sweeping the country. i don't want to see people hurt or injured in any way. trump writing on truth social. therefore, i have ordered

the inauguration address, in addition to prayers and other speeches to be delivered in the united states capitol rotunda. workers now busy building a new indoor stage. the massive outdoor platform was capable of holding more than a thousand people, but the rotunda will only be able to hold several hundred guests. the joint congressional inaugural committee, acknowledging the vast majority of ticketed guests, will not be able to attend the ceremonies in person in the new location. among those who will be allowed in, people with tickets for the presidential platform and members of congress, i, ronald reagan, do solemnly swear. the last indoor inauguration was 40 years ago, in 1985. the temperature was just seven degrees as ronald reagan was sworn in for his second term. there were also no longer be an inaugural parade on monday down pennsylvania avenue. instead, after his swearing in, the president will travel to the nearby capital one arena and hold a celebration event. as he was preparing to depart palm beach for washington. the president elect spoke with abc's rachel scott on the phone about

a number of topics, including his inaugural address, and said the themes will be unity, strength and fairness. amid the preparation for monday's inaugural events. protesters took to the streets in the nation's capital. >> i'm here to protest the trump administration. we still get a say as to what's going on in this country, and this is the day to do that. >> the people's march took place saturday, a rebranding of the 2017 women's march, a progressive movement aiming to bring attention to issues around lgbtq and reproductive rights, as well as environmental protection. >> we need to promote equality for all, and we're not there yet and we need to get there. >> maryalice parks, abc news, washington. >> now in our area, hundreds turned out for the people's march in san francisco. rally goers gathered at 24th and bryant streets, then marched to dolores park, where they briefly blocked an intersection. organizers billed it as a day to support progressive rights, with a focus on immigration, the economy, women's rights and

other personal freedoms. another group also held a rally in alameda today, while nationally there were hundreds of similar marches held ahead of trump's inauguration. and we will have live coverage of the inauguration on monday. it all starts at 6 a.m. right here on abc seven. a cease fire deal between israel and hamas is set to kick in tomorrow morning. israel's government gave final approval to the three part deal earlier today. phase one would bring the release of 33 israeli hostages and thousands of palestinians being held in prisons. here's abc news reporter tom shriberg, with the latest now from jerusalem. >> after a long and brutal war in gaza, a six week ceasefire is set to take effect in a matteris of hours. tonight, israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu, speaking publicly for the first time since his government and hamas reached the agreement. >> kumasi trump, the government. i see biden, not netanyahu,

thanking the u.s, saying israel reserves the right to restart the war in six weeks from now. >> if negotiations with hamas for a longer truce fail. the israeli cabinet approving the agreement in a document released saturday. israel confirming it will during phase one of the deal, release more than 700 palestinians held in israeli prisons, including some convicted of serious crimes. as part of the agreement, israel will also free an additional 1100 gazans who did not participate in the october 7th terror attack but were being held by israel without charge. in exchange, hamas will release 33 israeli hostages, including two americans, keith segal and saggy dickerson. the first three living female israeli hostages are set to be freed on sunday in exchange for an initial group of palestinians, 95 mainly female detainees. a further 65 hostages in gaza, a number of which are

was ceremonially sworn in by vice president kamala harris on january 7th in washington, dc. simon replaces barbara lee in representing california's 12th congressional district. president elect donald trump tells abc news he is likely going to grant tiktok a 90 day extension to avoid a ban in the u.s. tiktok says the app, which has 170 million american users, will go dark on sunday. that's all because of a bipartisan congressional law meant to protect americans privacy. it effectively bans tiktok unless it severs ties with its china based parent company by tomorrow. that company, bytedance, has refused to sell. up next skiing for a cause this weekend. palisades tahoe is supporting relief efforts for those affected by the wildfires in southern california. and as we take a live look outside on this saturday night, we have abc7 news weather anchor spencer christian. up next with your forecast, and the warriors are

know what? i'm going to change that graphic because that's the graphic i had up there earlier. so just bear with me. that was the graphic i was using to show what's happening overnight. but actually i want to show you this satellite radar composite image. high pressure is the controlling factor in our weather right now, bringing us this string of sunny, dry days and it's going to its circulation is going to bring us an offshore flow in a couple of days. that's going to be quite brisk and it's going to warm us up. right now we're looking at relatively calm wind speeds, although it's brisk in san francisco, where we have 15 mile per hour wind speeds and it's a little bit milder in most locations right now than 24 hours ago, 2 or 3 degrees warmer. but all locations are going to be cool as we get into the evening hours. 50 degrees in san francisco right now, 53 at oakland, hayward and redwood city, san jose at 55 degrees and 45 at half moon bay. beautiful clear view from emeryville. looking along the bay bridge is 52 degrees up north at santa rosa, 51 apiece at concord and livermore. but temperatures have dropped into the 40s already at petaluma, napa and fairfield. let's check out our forecast headlines

for the next few days. we can expect more mornings that bring us a little bit of fog or cloud cover, giving way to cooler afternoons under sunny skies, then windy early next week, although it will be warming up a bit, isolated gusts may reach 30 to 40mph on monday and tuesday. generally, though, in the hills of the north bay, and our next chance of rain appears to be around the end of the month. if even then, because the dry weather we're in right now will continue for a while now. wave heights are elevated, so we have a beach hazards statement in effect from 7:00 tonight to 7:00 monday evening. dangerous swimming and surfing conditions. increased risk of dangerous rip currents and sneaker waves. so bear that in mind if you're going to be down along the coastline. here's our forecast animation taking us into the overnight hours as we'll see some increasing clouds that will linger through the early morning hours, but will burn back and give us mainly sunny skies by midday tomorrow, much like what we had today. overnight, low temperatures will drop into the mid to upper 30s in many of our inland communities. that will be the chilliest weather around the bay area.

even some locations near the bay, like san mateo and fremont will see lows dropping into the upper 30s, but most other spots near the bay and the coast will have lows in the low 40s. highs tomorrow under mainly sunny afternoon skies. 55 at half moon bay 57, san francisco only upper 50s around the bay shoreline and mainly mid to upper 50s inland. so it's going to be a chilly day tomorrow. but if you look at the accuweather seven day forecast, you see it starts to warm up on monday mlk day, further warming by midweek with temperatures climbing into the mid or mid to upper 60s by thursday and friday. >> the warriors are finally back at the chase center and they could use some home cog right about now. it's a tight race in the west and with the win over the wizards tonight, the dubs can jump above 500 on paper. golden state should be able to get it done. washington is one of the worst teams in the league at guarding the perimeter, and have won just six games on the year. steph curry has nailed six plus triples in three of his last five starts. the dubs aren't exactly where they want to be this season, but
