teacher, literally. trump was the new president of tiktok. tiktok was the first thing to find out. >> yeah, and it may be up to president trump to save tiktok. tiktok issued a warning to users on saturday that it's set to go dark on sunday, but many are already reporting they can't find or access the app. >> it's very important to ban tiktok in the usa. it is a true national security risk. >> corey johnson is the chief market strategist at epistrophe capital research and veteran financial journalist who's worked for bloomberg and cnbc. he supports the law passed by congress and upheld by the u.s. supreme court. it requires tiktok's china based parent company, bytedance, to sell to a non-chinese buyer. >> there is a concern that the information gathered by tiktok could be used by the chinese military to sow unrest in the united states in the advent of a war, which is a greater and greater concern for washington, dc. >> the aclu says the ban is based on fear mongering and speculation. others point out that u.s. companies like google and meta also collect and sell american users data, just like tiktok. and

not just in the united states, but in other countries as well. billions of dollars are also at stake for american companies in the form of e-commerce generated through tiktok. >> you wouldn't think i've got the stock market information and information about technology companies would be found on tiktok, but it is, and it's a big business for me personally. so this is going to cause a disruption in our u.s. economy. >> others argue tiktok already has mountains of data about u.s. consumers, but johnson warns technological advancements such as ai will lead to more sophisticated data collection. >> as concerned as we should be and we should of what's going on with our data at meta and at google and at x, i think the concern is so much higher when the risks are an actual war. >> tiktok's warning indicates trump is working on a solution. he's currently proposing a 90 day extension once he takes office on monday. tiktok ceo chu chu is expected to attend trump's inauguration in san francisco, anser hassan. >> abc7 news. south bay lawmaker

ro khanna spoke with content creators impacted by the ban, and for many, their livelihoods are at risk. >> some of them were in tears. they were saying, we're not even going to ensure if we get unemployment. what are we going to do? no one is talking about the real people who are really getting hurt with this ban. it is tone deaf. it's a bunch of washington politicians listening to the foreign policy blob and totally out of touch with americans. >> he says they have almost a million petition signatures to call on the president to put a pause on the ban. it's the most signatures he's ever gotten in eight years in congress. berkeley police are investigating the city's first homicide of the year. a woman is dead, and two men are in the hospital after a triple stabbing this afternoon. police say they were responding to russell street near acton for a stolen vehicle investigation just before 12:30 p.m, and that's when they got a call about several people lying on the ground bleeding. >> we have multiple stabbing

victims here. copy. multiple stabbing victims, unresponsive, female bleeding from multiple stab wounds. >> police have not released any information yet on suspects or what led up to the stabbing. now to the wildfires burning in southern california. containment is growing tonight. and while tens of thousands of peoplele remain under evacuation notices, more are lifting. cal fire reports the palisades fire, which started in the pacific palisades, is now almost halfway contained. it's holding at nearly 24,000 acres. to the east in altadena, the eaton fire is 73% contained after burning more than 14,000 acres. 27 people have been confirmed dead. more than 13,000 structures are believed to have been destroyed, and fire officials are investigating what caused the fires. there is another round of fire fueling winds expected next week. a number of bay area businesses are holding fundraisers and pop up eveno

support those affected by the devastating fires in los angeles. abc seven news reporter suzanne phan caught up with a few groups determined to help. well, i was at one in el cerrito. >> the vino is flowing for a good cause. every glass poured, every small bite served. every customer that shows up helps make a difference. 5% of all sales at the wine bar goes to world central kitchen to help fire victims in los angeles. >> we felt really compelled to join in whatever way we could. >> claire sullivan is the owner of banter wine. she says the devastating fires hit home. sullivan's husband lost his family home during the tubbs fire in santa rosa. >> my partner's house parents house in santa rosa burned down in the 2017 fires. and so just after seeing kind of how widespread these fires down south have been, felt motivated in the small way that we can to contribute. >> it was it was incredible,

really. >> at octavia restaurant in san francisco, a long line wrapped around the building saturday morning. >> we had a potato galette. we had a monkey bread that was like cheese, and we had a lemon lemon tart. >> in return for a donation, customers got a pastry. >> we had about 700 pastries going into the day, and we sold out in like an hour and a half. i think like that really shows, just like the power of community. >> robert wright is the owner of octavia restaurant. he says a large part of the proceeds will go to fire victims in los angeles. >> i'm from santa rosa, and i remember the tubbs fire in 2017, you know, basically leveled that entire town. so i know it takes a lot of help from within and from without to help a community recover. >> epic restaurant along san francisco's embarcadero is donating proceeds from the sales of every stake through the end of the month. schoeman's restaurant is holding a fundraiser this coming thursday. it's a family style crab dinner feed at black jet baking company in san francisco. proceeds from

their special coconut i love ella cake will go to restaurants care to support food and beverage workers affected by the wildfires. bay area bars, restaurants, bakeries they're all hoping to help make a difference. northern california sending love and support to southern california. >> i think every little bit helps and we all should chip in. >> in san francisco, suzanne phan, abc seven news. >> oaklanders are down in altadena today showing support for those impacted by southern california's wildfires. a crew from oakland's urban compassion project distributed pet supplies to refugees. they went to a local hotel and ymca with those donated supplies. they're working with other groups and animal shelters to coordinate distribution. if you'd like to support their efforts, you can donate pet supplies, water and funds online to the urban compassion project. meantime, relief efforts are also happening on the slopes. this weekend, palisades tahoe is holding a special three day fundraiser for those impacted by

the fires. the resort is selling lift tickets for $99 and donating 100% of sales to relief efforts. on top of that, palisades tahoe and its parent company are both matching donations, meaning every ticket sold gets tripled in value. well, good morning america raised nearly $6.5 million friday morning for wildfire relief efforts. you can donate as well. just check out your screen and you can use your cell phone to scan this qr code. it'll take you to a list of verified and vetted organizations that are helping survivors. all right, turning now to our weather. it is definitely feeling like winter this weekend in the bay area. spencer is standing by with your 24 hour accuweather forecast. not to fear a warm up is coming. >> it's coming our way, but not in the next 24 hours. so we've had chilly mornings and chilly afternoon, and tomorrow will be another relatively cool day. so 7:00 in the morning we'll have partly cloudy skies with temperatures ranging

from about 42 in inland areas to about 4546 near the coast and bay. then noon, mostly sunny skies 56 degrees near the bay and inland, 54 on the coast. by 4 p.m, we'll see 60 degrees inland and around the bay. not much higher than that 54 on the coast. and then, of course, 7 p.m. after sunset, it will still be mostly clear, but temperatures dropping down to around 50 degrees inland, 52 around the bay and 48 in the on the coast. i'll have a look at a warm up, which dion accurately predicted is coming our way a little bit later. dion. >> i didn't predict anything. that was all you, spencer. okay. all right. thank you. well, authorities are monitoring the air quality in the monterey area after a battery facility cat fire. in an update this afternoon, they say they're checking for hydrogen fluoride and other particulates near moss landing and haven't found any risks. they're also reporting the flames to be out and are hopeful they don't reignite again. right now, the epa says it does not believe water quality has been impacted. that

investigation into what caused the fire is still ongoing. a company will have to pay out a massive settlement in the hunters point shipyard. environmental lawsuit. according to our media partners at the sf standard, tetra tech ec will pay $97 million to the federal government. the shipyard was once a cleanup site for ships exposed to atomic weapons for research into the effects of radiation. the government joined whistleblower cases alleging the company misrepresented soil samples and falsified data. still ahead on abc seven news at 11, the oakland hills are all too familiar with fires. what residents are doing to make sure they're prepared. and san francisco says it's ready. we'll take a look at some of the innovative resources it has in the event of an emergency. and it's not just a bell, but a victory bell. we'll introduce you to a bay area toddler who just

wildfires in los angeles have raised questions about san francisco's readiness when it comes to an emergency. the city says it is ready to respond to a disaster. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard was at a unique event today to get a look at the fire department's innovative technology and water supply. >> reporter water power on display along san francisco's embarcadero. the san francisco fire department, showing off its unique firefighting tools like the saint francis fire boat, essentially a floating fire hydrant on the bay. >> imagine a fire under that pier. this can the fire boat can get in really close and extinguish fires in pier areas. >> new fire chief dean crispin giving mayor daniel lurie a tour outside fireboat station 35 and a demonstration of the city's high pressure fire hydrant system. it's no coincidence that this demo drill is happening in the wake of the southern california wildfire disaster. many locals are asking, how ready is san francisco?

>> i'm getting this question a lot. in our first ten days in office. >> lurie believes the city is ready. >> we have a fully staffed fire department. we have over 200 cisterns, including new ones on the west side. >> in an emergency, the city has an unlimited water supply from the bay using submersible pumps. >> right now you're seeing a essentially fire engine in the water pumping water to the fire tender hose tender. >> this hose tender truck is new for the department. it can pump 5500 gallons of water per minute versus a typical fire engine,ute which pumps 1500 gallons. >> we're very lucky. we have a primary water supply, which is essentially our domestic water supply. those are the white hydrants that you see in almost on every corner in san francisco. we have a secondary water supply which is specifically used for firefighting. >> after two very stressful weeks, we decided to come here to stay with our friends. >> elaine zang and her family

the grand lake theater in oakland this afternoon. simon was ceremonially sworn in by vice president kamala harris back on january 7th in washington, dc. simon replaces barbara lee in representing california's 12th congressional district. what a momentous occasion that was. >> lee and her mother was there with her. how about that? how special that must have been for her. absolutely. yeah. >> all right. getting to the weather. i don't know if we'd call it special, but, i mean, it's going to be especially chilly tonight. >> i can tell you that. here's a look at the satellite radar composite image. dion. you can see high pressure is the controlling factor in our weather, bringing us mainly clear skies. and the circulation around that high is going to contribute to an increase in winds at the beginning of the week. but right now the wind is calm, as you can see all across the bay area, but it is chilly. 24 hour temperature change shows it is several degrees cooler in most locations than at this time last night. 1313 degrees cooler at half moon bay. three degrees cooler here in san francisco. six degrees cooler in oakland. so let's

move along and take a look at current temperature readings. 48 in san francisco 48. oakland hayward 4147 at san jose. redwood city 41 and down to 37 at half moon bay. looking along the bay bridge from emeryville. other temperature readings right now 38 at santa rosa and fairfield. napa down to 3743 and petaluma, 42. concord and 39 at livermore. lots of locations in the 30s already and still dropping. these are our forecast headlines. next few days we'll see morning fog and cool afternoons, which we've had the last couple of days. it will be windy early next week, with isolated gusts in the range from 30 to 40mph, mainly in the hills of the north bay. but it will all feel windier conditions and the next chance of rain looks like around the end of the month we have dry weather ahead for quite some time now. wave heights are elevated, so we have a beach hazards statement in effect until 7 p.m. monday. dangerous swimming and surfing conditions, obviously, and there's an increased risk of rip currents and sneaker waves. so if you plan to be along the coastline, put some

distance between you and the and the waves. here's our forecast animation. overnight, we'll see a little bit of an increase in clouds. so some low clouds moving across the bay and locally inland won't be very widespread. and by mid-morning we'll see the clouds burning back to the coastline, giving way to a mainly sunny midday and mid afternoon. overnight, low temperatures dropping well into well down into the 30s, i should say, and all of our inland locations, even around the bay shoreline. we'll see lows of 37 at fremont, 39, san mateo, 41 at oakland. so pretty chilly all around. tomorrow in the afternoon, look for highs of 55 at half moon bay, 57 here in san francisco, up to about 58 around oakland. and in fact all around the bay shoreline. we'll see mainly upper 50s, 58 to about 60 degrees up in the north bay, upper 50s to about 59. in santa rosa, inland east bay. we might see 60 at livermore. that will be the warm spot in the east bay and down to the south bay. we'll probably see highs of about 62 at san jose and 62 at morgan hill. here's the accuweather seven day

forecast notice a little bit of a bump up in temperatures on monday and tuesday. monday being mlk day under sunny skies, but it really starts to warm on wednesday, thursday and friday with inland highs and around the bay shoreline 64 to 66 degrees. very warm compared to what we're having right now. and then at the end of the week or going into next weekend, we'll see a little bit of a cool down, but still no rain in sight for at least the next seven days. possibly the next ten days will be dry. >> i know we could use it, i mean, feeling like spring is pretty tempting. >> i know we're enjoying the weather we're having now, but you're right. we need. we need the rain. >> yeah. all right. spencer. thanks. okay, well, still ahead on abc seven news at 11. dancing dragons can only mean one thing. the lunar new year is almost here.
