immigration. the active-duty army soldiers and marines deployed to address what trump declared a national emergency. the pentagon says military police units, combat engineers and intelligence officials who will aid with detection and monitoring. the military will construct new barriers on the border and provide airpower for deportations. senior defense official said this is just the start and we anticipate further missions. >> president trump is hitting a very strong message to people around the world. it you are thinking about breaking this clause of the united states of america, you will be returned home, you will be arrested and you will return home. speak of the troops will be armed for their safety, but then will not participate in law enforcement. border patrol will remain in charge. there has been a drop in apprehensions after new asylum last spring. encounters down 60%. some local officials say the troops are not necessary.

end to all diversity, equity and inclusion programs across the federal government, to link the employees who work in such programs to stop working as 5:00 yesterday on paid administrative leave. george, further, that order was accompanied by a memo that went out to federal employees telling them sometimes these dei programs are hidden through "coded or imprecise language." it directed federal employees to report anybody working on such programs and if they do not report such people they would have adverse consequences. there was an order that directed the department of justice to freeze all ongoing litigation out of the civil rights division, a very large division at the department of justice. george, another when, public health agencies that include the cdc and fda directed to pause

all external communications. this would theoretically include upcoming reports on the bird flu crisis. >> john, 160 members of the staff sent back to agencies? >> yeah, this is the new national security advisor mike waltz telling career employees, many of them out of the department of defense or the department of state not to show up to work. they will be a review of all of them. mike waltz says, all personnel working in the white house national security council support trump's america first agenda and a part of the effort to make sure the white house staff thoroughly with loyalists to donald trump. >> trump with birthright citizenship will face its first legal test. >> they will be a lot of legal challenges here to enter the 14th amendment to the united states constitution. if you were born in the united states, you are an american citizen.

say 17-year-olds didn't solomon henderson open fire in the cafeteria killing 16-year-old josselin corea escalante and wounded another student before turning the gun on himself. a student at antioch high school was getting lunch when the shots rang out. >> he started walking towards where i was, and he saw me and a few other students were still over there. i thought he was going to shoot us, too. i ran through the kitchen. >> we are trying to help people as they were pulling on the ground. >> authorities racing to the scene, s.w.a.t. teams combing the area. fearing for their lives, students barricading themselves and classrooms. we have a door where you look at them. >> students taken by bus to meet and just loved ones. >> this is one of the worst beers for a parent period, wondering if their kid is alive or dead. >> my son is not going here anymore. this is devastating.

will be talking about pamela anderson potentially being nominated for an oscar, i would be like, i don't know if that is true. that year we are talking about it. so i'm excited about her as well this morning. >> interesting category elton john and lin-manuel miranda duking it out. 30 years ago elton john won the oscar from the original lion king and now lin-manuel miranda could be up for an oscar for his take and "mufasa: the lion king." that could be kind of fun to see those two battle it out. >> it makes for a fun night for us backstage because these are all amazing people to sit in a room with and talk to them should they be the winner. robin alluded to it, best supporting actress, the really something, and not necessarily knowing that they're favorites to get nominations. but it would be really exciting as things sort of turn around.
