checking on unhoused folks like francisco and his dog, buddy. >> it's been really, really cold, brother. >> freezing overnight temperatures are expected this week. francisco says he'll camp outside, but appreciates outreach from the safe team. >> they have been nothing but wonderful people. they have given me a lot of support every time. i'll be like, hey, can you guys got water, food, snacks, anything? yeah. of course. here you go. you got a jacket? you need this. you need that. more than what i deserve. >> people don't realize. but when it's really, really cold, you get dehydrated. and water is really, really important. >> people's services center executive director elise hempel is concerned about those choosing to sleep outdoors. >> yes, there is a high level of concern, especially on days like this when most of us are enjoying the sunshine in the north bay. but but we know that it's going to get cold, so the safe team is really strategically doing a lot of work to reach out to individuals that they can find. >> experts at flourish are

giving advice on protecting plants from the cold. use a frost cloth and give plants water before the cold snap to retain moisture. >> any potted plants that you have, you want to remove them from outdoors and bring them as close as you can to the house, just so that it's near a warmer structure. if you have indoor plants, you'll want to keep them away from windows, especially windows that have drafts. >> a victory parade happening sunday morning in downtown petaluma, celebrating saint vincent high school's football team, winning the state championship for the second year in a row. it was cold, but all good. no complaints. >> a lot of people out here promoting them, so i think it's great. doesn't matter how cold it is, we're all out here to show the spirit. >> a little chilly weather didn't keep you away, though. >> oh, no. never. i'm always going to be around to support these guys. >> in petaluma. cornell. bernard, abc seven news. >> all right. while we're on the topic, let's get a check now from spencer with more on the freeze concerns in parts of the bay area. really? lots of parts of the bay.

>> area, most of the bay area. you're right, diane, and i'm shivering just thinking about how cold it's going to be. so here's a look at our freeze warning and our frost advisory, the frost advisory in the lighter blue there that covers the north bay interior valleys, the san francisco bay shoreline, the east bay hills and interior valleys, and parts of the peninsula and all of the santa cruz mountains. temperatures in those areas will drop down to about 32 degrees. now the freeze warning. a more serious alert covers the santa clara valley and the east santa clara hills. temperatures in that area will drop down to 28 degrees. and of course, these the warning and the advisory are in effect between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. tomorrow. now here's a look at our projected lows. what? this shows you how what the temperatures are right now. this will give you an idea. we already have temperatures dropping into the low 50s and upper 40s at this hour. the early evening. so we'll see lots of areas dropping down into the 30s during the overnight hours. i'll have the complete accuweather seven day forecast for you in just a few minutes. dion.

>> all right. sounds good. spencer. thanks. rain and snow in southern california is helping firefighters mop up the remaining wildfire still burning. the eaton fire, which is scorched more than 14,000 acres, is now 98% contained. today, there is snow on mount wilson in e san gabriel mountains. this area was burned in the eaton fire. all evacuations have been lifted. that is the good news. now, the palisades fire, which charred more than 23,400 acres, is now 90% contained. and in northern l.a. county, the hughes fire, which has consumed more than 10,000 acres, is now 95% contained. and in san diego county, the border two fire, which has torched more than 6600 acres, is up to 40% containment. rainfall across southern california has created a new post fire threat. the fires have put a large area at risk of possible landslides. barriers of sandbags are in place and k-rails now line the charred hillsides. as rain moved into

the burn zone. for residents lucky enough to escape the fire, mother nature has them worried once again. >> a little rain would be beneficial, but i am obviously nervous to see if it's going to be too much or what's going to happen. >> i had ptsd from the fire. i said, oh no, now the floods are going to wash away our house. >> crews have been clearing massive amounts of debris brought down by the winds that fueled the firestorm. they're working now to collect as much as possible before the rain washes more of it into the storm drains. with president trump's promise of mass deportations already underway, the administration's border czar is defending his team's aggressive approach. the white house says they are initially targeting undocumented immigrants who have committed violent crimes. during an appearance on abc's this week, border czar tom homan told martha raddatz the mass deportation plan is only, quote, in the beginning stages. >> if you're in the country illegally, you're on the table because it's not okay to violate

laws of this country. you've got to remember, every time you enter this country illegally, you violated a crime under title eight, united states code 1325. it's a crime. so if you're in the country illegally, you've got a problem. and that's why i'm hoping those who are in the country illegally, who have not been ordered removed by the federal judge, should leave. >> homan also warned that there will be collateral arrests, especially in the so-called sanctuary cities resistant to helping immigration and customs enforcement officials locate undocumented immigrants in custody for other crimes. he said ice officers may even go into schools because gang members tied to south and central america are often school age. >> name another agency, another law enforcement agency that has those type of requirements that they can't walk into a school or or a doctor's office or a medical campus. no other agency is held to those standards. >> it's estimated more than 11 million undocumented immigrants are currently living in the u.s. ice doesn't currently have enough funding from congress to detain all of the undocumented

immigrants that the trump administration says it hopes to arrest. the first flight of migrants deported from the u.s. to brazil under the trump administration has arrived at its final destination. many of the migrants say they were mistreated by american authorities before leaving. that plane carried 88 brazilian passengers in handcuffs, along with 16 u.s. security agents and eight crew members. the president of colombia has condemned the treatment of migrants as criminals, and said he would not receive any flights from the u.s. unless colombian migrants were treated with respect and dignity. there are many changes happening in the trump administration's first week, and we're keeping track of the first 100 days, and you can as well, all at abc7 news.com and on our abc7 bay area app. classes are canceled indefinitely at an elementary school in vallejo due to a theft that severely damaged the campus's power system. an inspection by the district over

bumps after it suddenly fell to half the height. 245 passengers and 11 crew members were on board. president trump is dismissing reports the white house is talking to oracle about buying tiktok. the president says he's spoken to many people about the app, but he said that hasn't included the head of oracle. a report yesterday suggested the current owners of tiktok, china based bytedance, would retain a stake in the company, but that oracle would oversee the app's algorithm and data collection. the associated press says san francisco bad perplexity ai has also made a merger officer offer, i should say. privacy concerns led to a law from congress requiring tiktok to be sold by its chinese owners, all in order to keep operating in the u.s. treasure seekers showed up mass to shop the white elephant sale in oakland today. it's the largest rummage sale in northern california, and people come every year to scavenge the huge

francisco, where it's 52 degrees right now. also 52 in hayward. oakland, 5655 san jose. redwood city, 5348 at half moon bay. nice clear view from mount tam looking down onto the bay up in the north bay. some locations have dropped into the 40s already. 46 in petaluma, 49 at napa and fairfield. santa rosa 5348 livermore 52 at concord and the view from the east bay hills camera. these are our forecast headlines. cold overnight with morning frost and freeze alerts. the next few days we can expect more sunny afternoons, but of course we'll have more cold mornings and by the end of the week going into the weekend, rain will be likel. not very precise yet on how much rain we'll get, but it will probably be wet. but we know it's going to be cold overnight. these are our cold air alerts, so the area in blue represents a frost advisory. the area in the darker purple there represents a freeze warning. both are in effect between 1 a.m. and 9 a.m. tomorrow. the freeze warning covers the santa clara valley and the eastern santa clara hills. the frost advisory covers the north bay

interior valleys, the east bay hills and interior valleys. the entire san francisco shore, bay shoreline, and of course, the peninsula and all of the santa cruz mountains. areas under the frost advisory will see temperatures dropping down to about 32 degrees. the areas under the freeze warning down to 28 degrees. and here's a look at our projected overnight lows. we're talking about mid to upper 20s at ukiah and lakeport. 33 at santa rosa. lows of 31 at livermore and 31 down south in morgan hill. all around the bay shoreline, with the exception of san francisco, low temperatures will drop into the 30s. highs tomorrow 58. half moon bay 59. here in san francisco, up to about 60 in the mildest locations, with one exception. fairfield may top out at 62. okay, two exceptions actually. fairfield may top out at 62 and san jose at 63. all other locations up to about 60 degrees. and that's about it. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. as i mentioned, more sunny days

11, a community coming together to mourn the death of 24 year old alexis gabe. three years after an intense search and her body was found, plus a glimmer of hope for one historic restaurant in san francisco's chinatown on the brink of closing for good. those stories and more coming up tonight at 11. well, today marks a somber anniversary in the sports world. five years ago, basketball star kobe bryant and his daughter gianna were among nine people killed in a plane crash in southern california to mark the anniversary. bryant's wife, vanessa, is releasing a new book called mamba and mambacita forever. the new book will feature the stories behind over 100 public murals from los angeles and around the world, dedicated to the late basketball

legend and his daughter. well, continuing the sports theme, san jose sharks center luke keenan hosted a special skating party this afternoon. the event was held at sharks ice for children and families affected by type one diabetes. keenan himself was diagnosed with a rare form of diabetes when he was 12 years old. he then created the luke cut in type one diabetes fund four years ago to help bring awareness and fund research, and be an ambassador for kids with the condition. they do so much good work in the community. the sharks. right, chris? >> yeah, it's great to see. and taking time on his off day to help out and like you said, give hope to those that are battling and shows you what you can do. >> yeah. and not to mention, you know, he's such a role model and all the kids are smiling. >> we're all smiling here as we watch it too. yeah. wonderful to see. oh, heartwarming. oh, look at the actual shark. shark? oh, that looks. >> scary to me. >> yeah. >> you got it. >> he's a professional. he knows. >> what he's doing. >> i didn't know he could skate
