forecaster of spring be numbered? the answer is yes. if peta has its way, the animal rights group is offering to provide a weather reveal cake each year indefinitely. if phil and his family will be allowed to retire and be sent to a sanctuary. now, peta says they will choose a color blue for six more weeks of winter and pink for an early spring. they say it would be just as accurate as relying on phil's shadow. >> that's nice. i don't think it's ever going to happen. >> no. >> this area relies on phil. >> yeah. >> and you've been there? >> yes, i've been there. it's not too far from state college. that's where i went to school, penn state. so, you know, you do the yearly migration over there. and it is a party to say the least. >> yeah. i think it might actually even be more accurate possibly, than. the cake. yeah. what do you mean. >> the cake can't see its shadow. what? they're predetermining the color days before. >> yeah. >> i like it. i want to see that road. >> i'd like. >> to see. will he see a shadow? >> i know we like phil.
5:51 am
>> i do like phil. it is a fun time. okay. we want to get you prepared because we are tracking days of rain on the horizon. something we really haven't seen since late last year. so you do want to get your storm preps in today? today is our final dry day of the month of january, so good idea. do what you need to do to get ready for the rain because it arrives here tomorrow on the lighter side, but then it intensifies. here on saturday, we're tracking a moderate strength atmospheric river to kick off the weekend, so today it's a very similar forecast to yesterday. we have all that cloud cover really for the first half of our day. and then into the afternoon we get that sunshine breaking back out. but temperatures will be below average in the 50s. so when we talk about storm preps, some things you should check on. certainly check on your gutters. make sure they are clear. if you have some storm drains around your house or even in some of our cities, just make sure they're clear of debris. that's usually a big cause of why we see roadway flooding, as our storm drains have debris in them, and they cannot clear the rain out quickly. move some furniture inside, especially your patio furniture. it's
5:52 am
probably been out for all of the month of january. bring it inside, secure those outdoor objects and check on your trees. maybe they need some trimming if there's some loose branches out there because the winds will be gusty on saturday. here's future weather friday morning. we are tracking light rain at first, and then it's pretty steady as we head later in the morning into the early afternoon, we'll track the winds that are generally just light in nature. on friday, some scattered showers in the evening and then we await the stronger rain. the moderate strength atmospheric river here arrives here saturday morning. here's the area of low pressure. it's so close to us. that's why the winds will be a lot stronger on saturday. and that's why the rain will be much heavier. and that's why we have the risk of some flooding here to kick off the weekend. friday rainfall. it's light about a 2:45 quarters of an inch of rain. but watch what happens on saturday. those totals really jump as we track that heavier rain moving in here, and a lot of us will likely see more than an inch of rain, and some of us may pick up more than two inches of rain, especially in the north bay. so on saturday it is a level two for that moderate strength
5:53 am
atmospheric river, heavy rain, gusty winds. we'll have to see what the afternoon information gives us. we may have to increase this number depending on if the rain gets heavier, but just know we do have the risk of flooding, especially in parts of the north bay. so much of the region on saturday has been highlighted for that risk of roadway flooding, some flooding on our smaller streams and creeks. let's talk snow. that's the big story in the sierra. 1 to 2ft of snow coming our way. a lot of this is going to fall friday night into saturday, and then next week we could see even more snow on top of that. so here's the accuweather seven day forecast. get your storm preps underway today. rain arrives tomorrow. it is just wet and windy here. saturday. more showers sunday and monday and then more heavy rain coming our way on tuesday guys. >> all right drew thank you so much. new at six. first fridays returns to oakland.e theme for the first event of the year. >> but first. >> more changes coming to starbucks. the menu shake ups just announced. >> let's get a live look outside this morning. you can see it is pretty empty out there on the road at the golden gate bridge, so we'll check in with francis in a little bit to get a look at
