north bay with the latest storm has brought a lot of flooding and toppled trees, and more rain is on the way. >> and a move today by president trump that could launch a tariff war. how an executive order he signed today will impact your finances. abc seven news starts now. >> always live abc. >> seven news starts right now. >> it's a soggy sunday. parts of the bay area are under a flood watch right now. our wet weather is set to last with more powerful storms on the way. good evening and thank you for joining us i'm dion lim. we are in for days of rain as we take a live look at live doppler seven, showing the latest round of showers soaking parts of the bay area. and we are on storm watch tonight taking a live look at conditions outside where it is pretty much gray and dreary out there. we are not done with the rain just yet. let's get the very latest now from abc seven news weather anchor spencer christian. let's talk about

the timeline and how long these showers are going to last. >> okay, diana, as you accurately stated, it is a soggy sunday and it's about to get soggier over the next couple of days. looking at live doppler seven right now, you can see that what we have remaining today of this most recent storm is very light. light scattered showers, and we still have a flood watch. in effect, it d been in effect for the entire bay area until now. it's been reduced to solano county and the carquinez strait and the delta. it's in effect until 10:00 tonight because the ground is still saturated, and even the light rain that's falling now can add to flooding possibilities. so this is a level one storm through this evening. showers, mainly north bay, breezy to gusty. rainfall totals will be under a quarter of an inch. but here's what's coming our way tomorrow and tuesday. as you watch the forecast animation, we've got steadier, heavier, stronger rainfall accompanied by strong gusty wind tomorrow and on tuesday. level two, level three storms on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale. a closer look at the full forecast a little bit later on. >> all right, sounds good spencer. thanks. now, like spencer mentioned, this storm is

a one on the abc seven storm impact scale, and it is really leaving a mark on the north bay. abc seven news reporter cornell bernard has a look at some of the damage and the worry coming with more rain. >> about five minutes to ten last night we started hearing popping and cracking. >> lisa carino says she's been concerned about this 200 foot tall douglas fir, which once stood near her forestville home. >> and then it sounded kind of like a soft thunder coming down. >> the giant tree falling on her neighbor's house, damaging theer roof line, taking out a fence and part of the back deck. >> this is the best case scenario of a worst nightmare, but nobody who was inside was injured. and i'm really, really grateful for that. >> this tall tree falling over west side road on saturday. >> right now the soils are incredibly saturated, so the tree systems are relatively weak. and then you add wind to that. we're getting we are seeing a lot of trees coming

down. >> captain colin ramos from the sonoma county fire district says the latest atmospheric river has brought several inches of rain and flooding. by sunday morning, slosser road in the russian river valley was under nearly a foot of water, but many drivers were still going for it. not michelle lee and her friends from martinez. >> there is an enormous amount of flooded water coming through. the vineyards are all flooded. the road is flooded. we can't get through. we can't drive through that. >> she decided to turn around and find an alternate route. other roads in nearby windsor are closed due to flooding. >> if you do come across roads that are closed, please don't drive into the roadways. >> this is ross station road here in sonoma county. right now it's looking more like a lake. green valley creek has flooded its banks, and it's cut off the entrance to this winery. with more rain coming, the fire department swiftwater rescue team will be standing by along the russian river. >> they're trying to move things accordingly to pre-position things the best we can. but a

lot of this is going to be dependent on the public trying to stay out of areas they don't need to be in, right? >> in sonoma county. cornell, bernard abc seven news. >> a health advisory remains in effect for martinez and parts of pacheco and clyde following yesterday's fire at the martinez refinery today. contra costa health hazmat crews were out checking the air quality and as the smoke continues to clear, officials are recommending residents with respiratory sensitivities remain indoors. with the windows shut today. four people were taken to the hospital for non-critical injuries or health concerns because of the fire. it sent large clouds of black smoke and prompted a temporary shelter in place yesterday. the fire's cause is still under investigation. then in richmond, officials say there's been intermittent flaring at the chevron refinery today. they say the richmond fire department is closely monitoring conditions. health officials say the flaring are not a threat to the community at this time.

president donald trump acknowledged today that americans could feel, quote, some pain when tariffs go into effect tuesday on goods imported from mexico, canada and china. he signed the executive order yesterday. that move was met with disapproval by our usually friendly neighbors up north. every that's the crowd at a. hockey game in ottawa booing today during the playing of the us national anthem. abc news reporter perry russom has reaction as mexico's and canada's leaders say they will retaliate. >> president trump signing executive orders imposing a 25% tariff on all goods coming from mexico and canada, with a lower 10% tariff on canadian energy and a 10% tariff on goods from china. trump blaming all three countries for illegal immigration and drug trafficking, an accusation they deny. canada says they've made progress at the border, with crossings down 89% in recent months. >> less than 1% of fentanyl,

less than 1% of illegal crossings into the united states come from canada. >> prime minister justin trudeau says canada will retaliate with 25% tariffs on more than $100 billion in u.s. goods, criticizing the very premise of trump's decision. some canadian provinces ordering government run liquor stores to remove american alcohol from shelves. >> canadians are perplexed. i think disappointed we view ourselves as your your neighbor, your closest friend, your ally. >> mexico's president also vowing to retaliate with tariffs of their own. blasting the trump administration for accusing her government of working with drug traffickers, saying that, quote, the people governance in mexico, not the cartels. and china's government denouncing the tariffs, saying it will take unspecified countermeasures against them but still leaving the door open for talks with the us. those tariffs set to go into effect on tuesday just after midnight. trump acknowledging in a social media post there could be some pain for americans with implementing tariffs. >> you campaigned on lowering

prices. you campaigned on this wallet, but your tariffs will have more money come out of this wallet for so many goods and services. >> the tax foundation estimates american families could pay $800 more on average this year, with those tariffs in place, and moody's chief economist estimates inflation will rise by about a half a percentage point by this time next year, adding americans can expect higher prices for fresh produce, clothing, electronics, cars and more. perry russom, abc news, washington. >> and here's a closer look at the items we could be paying more for due to those tariffs. popular mexican beer such as modelo and corona, as well as distilled spirits such as tequila, could see an increase. home construction and furniture prices could also take a hit. 30% of softwood lumber that the u.s. uses annually is imported from canada. and the cost of shoes and sports equipment, including items like baseballs, footballs, soccer

balls all could go up. more than half of shoes sold in the u.s. are imported from china, and the u.s. gets 75% of its toys and sports equipment from china. investigators are trying to pinpoint the causes of two separate fatal air crashes that happened just two days apart. on friday, a medical ambulance flight crashed shortly after takeoff from a philadelphia airport. and you can see that huge crater from the impact. all six people on board died, including a mother and child who was a patient at shriners hospital in philadelphia. one other person on the ground in a vehicle was killed, and at least 22 people were injured. >> five of the victims remain hospitalized currently, and three of them are in critical condition. >> last wednesday, 67 people died in the mid-air collision between a passenger jet and a military helicopter in washington, dc. families of some of the victims visited the scene today, brought in on busses with

a police escort. the army corps of engineers says salvage operations are set to begin tomorrow. separately, a critical aviation warning system that went down yesterday has since been restored to working order after a fire tore through parts of a veterans home in san francisco. the challenge crews faced as they fought those flames and a deadly virus is spreading among dogs in one neighborhood.

building on kearney in union square. one person was taken to the hospital. a second resident is getting help with housing from the red cross. some residents were told to shelter in place, while others were forced to evacuate. >> there are many people in this building who are invalids, so firefighters did have to use the stairs and carry many victims out to get out of harm's way. >> the veteran nonprofit swords to plowshares began leasing the former stanford hotel from the city back in 2014. the site provides permanent housing for 131 veterans. happening tomorrow in san francisco, a free vaccination clinic in response to a rise in parvovirus among dogs in the tenderloin district. that outbreak began in november. parvo is highly contagious and a viral infection that affects dogs. it can be fatal, but it is also largely preventable. the spca, animal care and control and saint anthony's foundation

areas and highways. higher elevations at 8000ft are seeing some snow. a winter storm watch for the greater lake tahoe area goes into effect tomorrow afternoon through wednesday morning. all right. and back to our situation. oh, yeah. i mean, i think i could do the forecast. rain. rain rain. rain. rain. >> exactly right. about five days worth of it coming our way. some days heavier than others. right now we have rather relatively light rain across the bay area and scattered showers. as our most recent system is weakening. you can see on the satellite radar image that a plume of moisture, that atmospheric river has lifted northward a bit. so the heaviest rain is going north of the bay area, but it's going to drop southward again over the next couple of days, bringing stronger storms to the bay area. right now, we're looking at gusty wind up to about the 23mph at concord, 21 mile per hour gusts down at san jose and all around the bay area. it's quite breezy and it's going to get even gustier tomorrow as that stronger storm moves in. right now. 57 degrees in san francisco, low 60s at oakland, hayward, san jose, upper 50s at redwood city and half moon bay. look at this view atop

mount tam where it is windy and it is raining there. temperature readings up north right now in the mid 50s at santa rosa, petaluma and napa, upper 50s to about 60 at fairfield, concord and livermore. let's check out our forecast headlines tonight. again, more light rain, mainly in the north bay. but some other areas may get a sprinkle or two. but the big deal is tomorrow as a stronger level two storm arrives, bringing windy and rainy conditions by afternoon going into the evening and overnight hours. then by tuesday, potentially and looks pretty likely right now. a level three storm bringing even stronger conditions or more intense conditions they will see tomorrow. so for this evening, this light level one storm will produce more showers, mainly north bay. it will be breezy and gusty at times. rainfall totals from this under a quarter of an inch, but as you can see, going to the late night and overnight hours, it will be mainly up in the north bay, although again a sprinkle or two could possibly hit some other areas before the bigger main event comes in late tomorrow. we still have a flood watch in effect for

solano county and locations over in the carquinez strait and delta. this had been an area wide flood watch. it got reduced later earlier today and it will be in effect until 10 p.m. now let's take a look at the long term forecast animation starting on monday. it's that stronger storm comes through. it intensifies even more going into tuesday. heavy rain, strong downpours, strong gusty wind and then finally late tuesday night we'll see it tapering off, giving way to some lighter storm activity. a winter storm warning will be in effect from 1 p.m. moy to 7 a.m. wednesday. for most of the sierra, up to three inches of snow, likely above 7000ft. powerful gusts over the peaks up to about 90mph back to the bay area. overnight lows tonight, generally in the low 50s. highs tomorrow upper 50s to some low 60s. 62 san mateo down in the south bay up to 64 at san jose. cooler up north, of course, where the rain will first arrive. and here's the accuweather seven day forecast. so level two storm on the exclusive abc seven storm impact scale tomorrow. likely a level three on
