people have waved the wanted driver into the driveway. east bay parks police officers and alameda county deputy sheriffs were closely following. this is on fuller avenue, which runs parallel to 8-80. we are reaching out to police to determine why this driver is wanted, and right now it is a standoff in a hayward neighborhood. we will bring you any updates as they happen. you see guns drawn. good evening. i'm ama daetz. >> and i'm julian glover. our other top story tonight, another atmospheric river poised to hit the bay area. residents are keeping close watch on creeks and streams in the north bay. the sandbags and tarps are ready to go now that a flood watch is in effect, and so far it is dry across most of the region. but it is starting to look a bit ominous outside. a live look right here from our camera in emeryville. you can see some of those dark clouds in the distance there. >> so let's get to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel, who is tracking this system. sandhya.

>> yeah. and juliana, let's take a look at live doppler seven. it is a level two for tonight as that atmospheric river moves in and slams the bay area. it goes to a strong level three storm. we're going to get you into street level radar, where we are seeing some light rain right now around bohemian highway, occidental monte rio, some moderate pockets in there. and that's only going to intensify as we go into the night and into tomorrow. a flood watch is up until 4 a.m. wednesday. the entire bay area is at risk of seeing flooding. we have wind advisories for solano county, san francisco and the coastal areas until 8 p.m. tomorrow, 45 to 50 mile an hour gusts will likely cause damage right now 25 miles an hour. at san mateo. it is a level two. heavy rain in the north bay. flood watch for all areas. gusty winds. it becomes a level three. downpours. strong winds. flooding, thunder chance, downed trees and power outages. as you look at the timeline here, look at the rainfall continuing to slam the north bay and then intensifying and moving across the entire bay area. your morning commute will be dicey. heavier rain arrives tomorrow

afternoon and evening full. look at the timeline coming right up. julian and anna. >> okay. thank you so much, sandhya. emergency crews, first responders, residents all on high alert in the north bay where the storm is expected to be the worst. >> abc seven news reporter louis pena is live in mill valley, where resources are deployed now at some of those known trouble spots. loose. >> that's right. mill valley first responders are gearing up to respond to this weather event. both the fire and police departments say their teams are ready. many are watching these creeks. watching creeks like this one closely to see how fast the water levels are rising. the southern marin fire district is ready to deploy a countywide weather response, focused on some of the most challenging areas in this region. >> we're going to be focusing on the sycamore triangle area and the streams and creeks in mill valley. we're going to be doing that by having engines and our utility pickups patrolling through the evening. >> residents here experienced a flooding in december. strong wind is now one of the factors first responders are concerned

about. >> the wind is up. stay away from power lines. call 911 if you see trees down or anything affecting downed power lines. tree all lines down is live wires. >> the mill valley police department is urging residents to stay vigilant. >> we've had a lot of rain up to four inches over the last several days, and we're expecting more rain over tonight through tomorrow. that is going to really impact our community. so we really want to get the word out to community members, be prepared, help out their neighbors, get any debris that might be covering up storm drains, or are prone to flooding to clean out those areas, we have sandbags available in three locations throughout our community. >> and the ground here is already saturated from past rainstorms. now, the first responders are urging the public to stay vigilant for any potential mudslides in mill valley. luz pena abc seven news. >> luis, thank you. and the storm that moved through over

clara county that county counsel tony lopresti says intends to protect the south bay's fish, wildlife and community. >> we're certainly not trying to deliver the message that people should stop drinking water right now, but we do know that there there is uh- contamination. >> the lawsuit targets several companies, including three m and dupont, for their role in the contamination. csu east bay professor of public health michael schmeltz says exposure to harmful levels can lead to serious health risks. >> reproductive effects, uh- developmental effects and delays in children, increased risks of some cancers, and interference with the body's natural hormones. >> the chemicals are used to create products resistant to water stains and heat. the lawsuit claims the south bay contamination came from firefighting foams manufactured by the companies that are routinely used at training centers, fire stations and airports in the county. >> it covers the ground and then, of course, it seeps through the ground, through the soil, and then eventually, as it

goes down together with the rain water, it can accumulate at the water table in the groundwater here. >> csu east bay environmental science lecturer elena givental says it can stay for hundreds of years. pfas can be filtered out of water, and lopresti says he intends to hold the companies accountable for cleaning up their mess. >> we filed this lawsuit, which adds to the several thousand lawsuits already pending throughout the nation, to ensure that the defendant companies pay the cost to clean up their mess and to address the impacts of these chemicals. >> we reached out to dupont and three m but did not hear back. in santa clara county, dustin dorsey, abc seven news. >> martinez residents are calling for accountability after the refinery fire on saturday. community members have been frustrated for years about safety concerns and pollution. the fire was the latest example. an alert advised people to stay

inside and not breathe the air. residents sued the refinery in 2023 over a similar incident. the refinery apologized for the disruption on its website. no word yet on what caused that fire. >> now to one of president trump's key issues. during the first 100 days of his second term in office. immigration. today, local businesses and community members, they took part in a protest called a day without an immigrant. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes has more on why participants say the movement sends a loud and clear message about the role of immigrants here in the u.s. >> across the country and right here in the bay area, many chose not to work or attend school for a day without immigrants. >> really highlighting the contributions that immigrants have made on our economy, on our communities. >> in san francisco, some businesses were closed and many street vendors who sell on mission street were gone. >> it's not to affect businesses. it's just to group. we are with our power, with our money, and we can contribute to

this country. the economy. >> in oakland at fruitvale plaza. dozens came together to rally for immigrants rights and against ice raids and deportations. >> all these walls have got to go. >> organizers say the goal behind the day of action is to show immigrants impact on the u.s. economy. they say an estimated 31 million migrants contribute significantly to the nation's workforce. the decision to close businesses monday wasn't easy for some. susana torres, who owns busy fit meals in east san jose, said. it's a big hit financially. >> for a company like myself that makes healthy meals. sundays and mondays are when people pick up for the week. >> but torres said the decision to close was to honor her parents, immigrants who paved the way for her to become a business owner. >> i've never seen my parents ask the government for anything. anything. i've seen them have multiple jobs and they i can't say they didn't contribute. i'm here. that's contribution. >> despite the financial hit, torres said she's had incredible conversations with clients who came to find her clothes monday.

on fears of an escalating trade war. >> lots of upheaval today in the nation's capital, as the trump administration began cutting an agency that provides crucial aid to other countries. in the center of it all is elon musk. the tesla ceo says the white house is shutting down u.s. aid as an independent agency and merging it with the state department. staffers have been locked out of the agency's washington headquarters. >> he's got access only to letting people go that he thinks are no good if we agree with him, and it's only if we agree with them. >> democrats say trump needs congressional approval to shut down u.s. aid. they vowed to fight trump in court. >> i lived in a refugee camp for four years as a child, surviving civil war. it is the essential programs that u.s. aid provided that kept my family and i fed and safe. >> musk has also been given access to the treasury

other safeway locations in the area. >> the vallejo school district says a campus that was forced to close after a massive copper wire theft is set to reopen tomorrow. the theft of more than happened more than a week ago left solano wiedenman leadership academy without power. at first, the school district canceled class for the entire week, but last wednesday, officials were able to place more than 600 elementary and middle schoolers at six alternate campuses. the school district says they have since increased security to help prevent this from happening again. >> now to a remarkable reunion. 80 years in the making between a sister and her brother who was missing in action in world war two. >> abc seven news anchor dion lim sat down with sergeant ian hoppes, 93 year old sister, about the moment his bodily body finally came home to san francisco. >> sometimes i imagine with this car he was going out with some friends. >> though the memories are hazy after all this time. 93 year old marjorie wong remembers 1944

sky seven is live in hayward, where a police pursuit is now a standoff in front of a home on fuller avenue. you see how the flashing lights there? this has been going on for about 45 minutes now, and an armored police vehicle has now arrived on scene. you can see it there in that driveway. officers from the east bay regional parks police were pursuing the driver of the navy blue pickup truck along northbound, northbound 880 through union city and then into hayward. the driver led police to the driveway of this home. >> so from the live images, we want to go to some video now to show you the moment where things in this pursuit took a strange

turn. you see people there at the house guiding the pickup into the driveway. it looks like they tried to wave the officers off. as you can imagine, that didn't work. now backup is on the scene and police have their guns drawn. we're trying to get an update from authorities as to why they're pursuing the driver in the first place. we'll bring you more as we get it here on abc seven news and online. >> we certainly will, but we need to check on the weather because we got a little bit of a break. but lots more rain is coming. >> yeah, we're already learning about impacts to sandy at the oakland zoo closed tomorrow because of the rain in the forecast. >> yeah. and you know what? with good reason. julian and emma this is going to be a strong level three storm. so let's talk about the concerns. high likelihood of flooding trees down. power outages is pretty much going into that moderate to high category. and we could see some mudslides. so here's a look at live doppler seven atmospheric river moves in. right now. we are seeing all the action up in northern california and parts of the north bay getting some rain. at this hour. we're going to get you into street level radar. we're seeing some pockets of moderate rain right around south santa rosa,

petaluma hill road, rohnert park. so be careful. over the last 72 hours, here's how much rain we received. just under an inch there in oakland. 8700 san francisco. but look at kentfield really sticks out more than 4.5in now. i've seen venado over seven inches up in northern sonoma county. mount tam, more than ten inches of rain, san jose and concord, less than a 10th of an inch in the rain shadow of the mountains. that's all going to change. winds are gusting right now. 50 miles an hour. big rock ridge. here's a shaky view from our emeryville camera. and the clouds are gathering the temperatures right now in the 40s to the 60s. so it's been pretty mild with the south wind across many areas. tonight it's a moderate level two storm rain, heaviest in the north bay. flood watch for all areas, with those gusty winds intensifying to a strong level three storm as that atmospheric river drives right in here with downpours, strong winds, flooding is likely thunderstorm chance. downed trees and power

outages is what you need to look out for. 6:00 tonight. you get the heaviest rain in the north bay by 830. it's moving into the east bay, san francisco, and by midnight most of the bay area is getting wet. now. tomorrow morning's commute will include pockets of downpours that continues at 10 a.m. by 1:00. we are seeing some heavier returns here heading into the afternoon and evening. some heavier rain continues going into the evening commute. it's going to be really nasty, so if you could stay off the roads, probably a good idea. 7:00 in the south and east bay and by 9 p.m. it's on its way out and you get this clearing by 11 p.m. rainfall estimates this is going to be more evenly distributed, as that atmospheric river soaks the bay area. you're looking at rainfall that will range anywhere from an inch and a quarter in livermore to four and a half, a little over 4.5in of rain in yountville, santa cruz mountains, picking up as much as six inches of rain by the end of the week. the winds gusty tonight at 11 p.m, over 40 miles an hour along the coast. winds remain gusty. you can see

even over 50 miles an hour going into tomorrow afternoon. 56 there and then really continuing through the afternoon hours by evening starting to back off. we do have a winter storm warning for the sierra until 10 a.m. wednesday. several feet of snow above 5500ft. with those gusty winds, we are talking about difficult and possible driving conditions. i would hold off if you if i were you, 40s and 50s on those temperatures in the morning tomorrow afternoon, you're looking at a stormy one with 50s and 60s accuweather seven day forecast. it's a level three for tomorrow with that atmospheric river really set to soak the bay area. continue to whip up the winds. thunder chance. chilly wednesday morning a brief break and then a level two. not quite as strong on thursday. it's wet and windy again. a one for friday morning and then the weekend will feature dry weather and plenty of sun. >> so the. >> magic word? >> yeah. >> it is coming, but not until the weekend. and julian. >> all right. thank you sandhya. >> all right. up next she is the
