following yesterday's intense atmospheric river, several communities saw flooding and varying levels of damage to homes. >> abc seven news reporter tim johns joining us live now in santa rosa with more on the damage there. tim. >> yeah, larry. kristen i'm here outside the santa rosa veterans hall, where a temporary evacuation point has been set up. folks can come here. they need a place to stay or if they need to do things like charge their devices if their homes lost power or were even damaged during yesterday's atmospheric river. now we got a chance to see firsthand some of that damage earlier today, and how communities are preparing for even more. >> it was difficult to understand what she was saying, and she was obviously panicking. she didn't know she could get out. but. very scary. >> a raw and emotional moment for robert boyd and his wife.

boyd says he was at work tuesday when his wife called him to say the intense storm had caused a mudslide to run straight into their home. sky seven video shows the extent of the damage. we caught up with the couple as they were removing some of their belongings wednesday. boyd says almost the entire first floor of their now dilapidated house is filled with mud. it's not the first natural disaster the couple has survived or that's destroyed this house. >> we were here for the tubbs fire in 2017, lost the house at that point. it took us two years, almost to the day to rebuild. the remnants of tuesday's atmospheric river will also seen farther east in guerneville. sonoma county fire district spokesperson karen hancock says flooding caused by the storm led to at least five water rescues wednesday morning. >> we've got all of our swiftwater rescue teams out here. all of our stations are fully staffed. we've got extra staffing. >> evacuation orders for some low lying areas along the russian river were still in effect wednesday, and many roads remain unpassable. michael gomez

tells us while he drove his trailer to higher ground before the storm hit, his property is still under water. the guerneville resident saying the water destroyed some items. he and his wife had been keeping there in storage. >> i'm 62 years old. i can't do this. we can't afford it. we get a little bit ahead. finally go. okay. we got a little pad, and then something like this happens and we're back down below zero again. >> so more rain is expected to hit the area in the coming days. and officials are urging people to use this time to get prepared. >> we just don't know exactly what mother nature is going to do and how much rain is for sure going to fall in this area. we're asking people to please stay vigilant. >> now. we are expecting that that storm to arrive sometime tomorrow morning. it will then stay in our region until midday friday. i'm in santa rosa. tim johns, abc seven news. >> all right, tim, thank you. try to enjoy the sunshine while we have it. those heavy rains and strong winds caused a mudslide on san francisco's telegraph hill. and today, an engineer was on the scene to

make sure that it's actually safe. abc seven news reporter lena howland took a closer look. >> as san francisco was pounded with rain tuesday. a mudslide came down telegraph hill around six tuesday night, crashing through the retaining wall and fencing spilling out onto samson street. >> there are some cracks in the rocks on the hillside. it brought the rock down that already was loose, and so we wanted to make sure it was safe. >> san francisco public works says about 400yd■!t of rock slid down the telegraph hillside. specialized engineers were out inspecting the area tuesday night and wednesday morning, making sure the houses at the top of the hill were safe. >> there's no risk at this point of them coming down. so that's the number one thing we wanted to make sure would be happening. >> no one was hurt and no cars in the area were damaged. >> it looks pretty precarious. so the amount of rain we got, it's not surprising. there was an area, an issue here. >> by morning, it was the talk of the neighborhood, with people

like kevin dietrich stopping to snap a photo on his walk to work. >> i definitely wouldn't park here. seeing this, i think i would steer clear and let the let the folks take care of it. >> with more rain on the way in the coming days, public works says they plan to keep a close watch on this area. >> we're going to be out here regularly now through this rainy season, and make sure that this hillside remains stable and safe. and if it doesn't, we're going to do whatever we can to keep the people safe and keep them away from this. >> the city has been able to keep one lane of traffic open here on samson street in san francisco. lena howland abc seven news. >> dry right now, but there's more rain coming tomorrow. >> it was so nice actually driving into work today and seeing the sunshine again after. it felt like just so many days of rain. meteorologist sandhya patel here now with a look at what is ahead. hi, sandhya. >> hi, there. yeah, it's kind of an uplifting kind of weather outside, right? larry and kristen, take a look at this live picture from our golden gate bridge camera. we have plenty of sun out there. we need the storms, but we do need a

break as well. and we're getting it right now. there were a few isolated pop-up showers in the north bay earlier today, but as we take a look, a level two storm on live doppler seven is moving in our direction. and so tomorrow morning there is some concern about flooding on those smaller streams and creeks that have already been bankfull. so there's a flood watch in effect until 1 p.m. friday. flooding is possible on those smaller streams and creeks. that lighter green is a flood warning that is still going for the russian river at guerneville. it already crested earlier this morning. they had moderate flooding and it's going down, so at least it's receding. 8:00 tomorrow morning. the rain moves in at 10:00. it's pretty widespread. we go into the afternoon and the rainfall becomes a little more intense in pockets. this is a level two storm for tomorrow. rain, brief downpours, gusty winds, possibility of thunder and flooding as well. i'll be back with a full look at the weekend forecast. that does include some changes. i'll be back with that in a few. >> kristen sandia, thank you. so we're seeing that break today,

but more rain is indeed headed for the bay area. as you heard sandhya mentioned track the next storm with the abc seven. bay area app will also send alerts with important updates. >> new developments now out of washington, where governor newsom met today with president trump at the white house. the primary topic additional federal aid for the southern california wildfire relief effort. mr.rnia trump toured the devastation last month, pledging to do what he could to speed up the rebuilding process. governor newsom is the first democrat to meet with mr. trump at the white house since the inauguration. abc seven news reporter monica madden is talking with newsom administration insiders about exactly what happened. the conversations today and will join us with what they are saying on abc seven news at five. meanwhile, the newest member of president trump's cabinet was sworn in today. pam bondi is now the u.s. attorney general. >> i will restore integrity to the justice department, and i will fight violent crime throughout this country and throughout this world, and make

america safe again. >> with the administration focused on changing the justice department, bondi is already outlining her day one objectives, and they include investigating and potentially eliminating diversity, equity and inclusion programs, dei programs in the private sector and in schools that receive federal funds. she's also pausing federal grants to sanctuary cities and will decide in 30 days which of those cities will permanently lose their grants. and the ag bondi also expected to order a review of the criminal and civil cases that were brought against president trump. >> a day of protests across the country. it's 50 protests in 50 states. demonstrators are protesting numerous actions by the trump administration. they say they're against the implementation of project 2025, the guidelines of republican priorities from the conservative think tank, the heritage foundation. some legendary latin music superstars are sharing a mee of solidarity with the immigrant community. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes spoke with

members of los tigres del norte, who surprised fans today in san jose. >> a big homecoming reception in san jose wednesday for los tigres del norte at this local nonprofit. the group's success is worldwide, but they say they haven't forgotten their roots. >> we are part of the community. >> the band's musical domination started right here in san jose. they spoke with us about their start in a conversation at our san jose bureau after wednesday's event. >> we've been in the bay area, especially in san jose, for since 1968. >> they say they made the stop at sacred heart community service to empower immigrant communities and remind them of their rights. communities that say they're scared over deportation threats. communities with stories similar to the band members. >> this is where we came from, from mexico a long time ago, and it was something that we were illegal to, you know, like like everybody that comes to the united states, they come to have a looking for a better life. >> the band's visit was a huge surprise to people who regularly

visit sacred heart for services. >> we saw the setup, so we're like, oh, what's going on? you know? and then they're like, oh, we're having los tigres del norte come over here to talk to you guys. so we were all like going crazy and just very happy and excited. >> still, they were strongly aware that they weren't at this event only to be entertained. >> it's a bittersweet moment because, well, we're here excited to see them, but they're here to talk about immigration and what the rights we have as immigrants. >> a serious but critical message. the group said it's fought to get out through its music and events like this. >> we need to face these struggles right now, together as a community, preparing ourselves not to be misinformed. we have to go out and get information about what we can do and our job, not only in music, but as as the messengers of that people that has been followed are our songs and our music for this for a long time. >> many of those followers saying the message has been heard loud and clear.

>> knowing that los tigres del norte are here to support us and to let us know that we shouldn't be afraid. >> in san jose. zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> voters in san mateo county are starting to receive their ballots in the mail for the march 4th special election today in redwood city, the san mateo county deputy sheriffs association hosted a press conference in support of measure a now that would give the county's board of supervisors the power to remove sheriff cristina corpus from office. corpus is accused of abusing her power as sheriff and retaliating against people who exposed misconduct. last month, corpus filed a $10 million lawsuit against the county, accusing the county of discrimination and harassment, claiming those in power don't want a woman or latinx person as the head of their sheriff's department. >> this has absolutely nothing to do with race or gender. this is solely because of her actions. that's that's all it is. if she didn't do any of these things, if she wasn't abusing the people who worked here, if she wasn't

displaced. >> salir el dias de febrero. >> a letter says that we have to leave by february 10th. today, these families joined forces to speak up. many are immigrant families who are not only concerned about housing, but also being outside in the elements with their children as mass deportations loom. >> he wants to evict families from shelters after three months, and then will let them extend for 30 days if they deem them worthy of those 30 days. >> so hsa said they've granted all families. currently, as of january of 2025, enrolled in a 90 day family shelter, a one time automatic 30 day extension. we questioned what happens even after that. if a family still needs more time after the 330 day extensions, then h h needs to assess the request relative to the eligibility requirements in the policy, and h h rather than the provider would authorized the extension.

>> in a crisis. we're in an emergency and we can't waite can't wait another month to see what's going to happen. >> in san francisco. luz pena, abc seven news. >> san francisco is launching a new plan to deal with the drug market in the sixth street corridor. the city is creating an outdoor triage center where sfpd officers will process drug users and dealers that they detain. the hub will be set up in a parking lot on stephenson street near market and sixth. a jail transport van will be stationed there, ready to bust those who are arrested to jail. take them to jail or take them to get treatment. this is a 30 day pilot program, and how it goes will determine whether the city decides to continue it. >> oakland mayoral candidate lauren taylor is taking a tough stance on crime. at a news conference today, he announced what he calls his smart pursuit plan. he's pushing for oakland police to use drones during pursuits to help give officers a better vantage point and to keep them safe. opd already uses drones for search and rescue, but taylor says adding them to their pursuit policy will help

end the perception that people can commit crimes in oakland and just get away with it. >> we have to stop the lawlessness in our city. we don't want to free up all police chases that puts people in harm's way, but we do want to smartly, intelligently pursue. >> taylor has also pledged to increase opd staffing if he's elected and make the department more efficient to maximize time that officers are on the street. >> san francisco bay's only marine laboratory is going to be closing, the chronicle reports. san francisco state is shutting it down due to a lack of funding and a budget shortfall. located in tiburon, it needs around half $1 million annually to remain operational, but the school is looking at a deficit of around $25 million in the california state university budget is facing a cut of 8%. >> all right. if you're enjoying the sunshine today, well, it is a little cold, but don't get used to it.

>> yeah, because it's going to be raining again tomorrow. right, sandhya? >> that's right. and larry and kristen, we're not going to see these kinds of rain totals. take a look at the storm totals from the last system. that atmospheric river level three. it dumped over five inches of rain in san rafael. it was over a half a foot in places like varnado up in sonoma county, over three inches san francisco, close to two inches there in oakland, sfo, redwood city, an inch and a half more than an inch in san jose, concord and livermore, about 6/10 of an inch, and ben lomond close to five inches of rain. this next system is nt quite as strong, so you can see it here on live doppler seven. it is going to bring us a variety of concerns, but it is definitely not going to bring us the kind of rain and powerful winds that we experienced right now on live doppler seven, most areas are seeing sun. there are a few clouds to the north, and as i mentioned earlier in the broadcast, there were a couple of isolated showers in the

north bay earlier in the day. temperatures anywhere from the 40s to the 60s. it is cool outside from our east bay hills. camera seeing plenty of sun overnight tonight. a chilly night. areas of frost tomorrow turns wet and windy. and for the weekend we have cold mornings and sunny days coming your way. frost advisory 12 to 9 a.m. tomorrow for the north and east bay valleys. bundle up first thing in the morning. those numbers will drop, at least in this criteria, this warning area into the mid 30s. so you will see some frost. so here's a look at those temperatures. 35 in napa 36 in santa rosa dropping to 35 degrees in livermore. the cloud cover will come in. the rain moves in in the morning tomorrow afternoon. hang on to the umbrellas. 40 to 60s. let's start with the storm impact scale. so it is a moderate strength storm. a level two rain, brief downpours, gusty winds, possibility of thunder and certainly flooding is possible as we do have streams and creeks that have reached bankfull and now more rain is going to fall on top of that. so 8:00 when you head out the door, be prepared for a

slower ride. the rain moves in. it is light to moderate but widespread at 10 a.m. as we head into the afternoon, you will see pockets of downpours and into the evening commute, so it's not as widespread, but certainly will be a little more intense. and then at late night, scattered showers, lighter in intensity going into friday morning. and then friday afternoon, you'll notice around the east bay, the south bay and the peninsula. we have a few more showers before this system is out of here. rainfall estimates with this one will be about a third of an inch around san francisco in the south bay, to just almost an inch and a half in the far northern end of our viewing area. winds will come up. they will be gusty over 4045 miles an hour, and there will not only be wind up in the sierra, but heavy snow. so winter storm warning 10 a.m. tomorrow to noon friday above 5000ft, expecting 8 to 18in, but up to three feet for the peaks. accuweather seven day forecast. it's wet and gusty. weather level two tomorrow. it's a one for friday and then your weekend is dry, but you will need

all of your heavy winter layers because it is going to be cold and it's going to be frosty in the mornings. we do have a slight chance of rain tuesday, but a level one returning on wednesday. kristen and larry. >> keep watching that. thank you sandy. yeah. >> all right. a legendary by area tv news anchor has passed away. ktvu announced longtime anchor dennis richmond died today at his grass valley home with his wife by his side holding his hand. richmond was on the station's anchor desk for 32 years until he retired in 2008. in fact, both kristen and i worked alongside dennis, and you see leslie griffith there as well. a kind, wonderful man will certainly be missed. ktvu says richmond had battled some health issues, including a heart attack and prostate cancer, about a decade ago. dennis richmond was 81 years old.

to push for changes within the international olympic committee to maintain single sex competition. reena roy, abc news, new york. >> a federal judge has ordered a second pause on president trump's executive order to end birthright citizenship. the executive order was already on temporary hold because of a separate suit brought by four states, including california. in total, 22 states, as well as other organizations have sued to try to stop the executive action. >> bay area palestinians say they're shocked over president trump's comments about removing palestinians from gaza, than having the united states take over that war torn territory. excuse me. abc seven news reporter anser hassan spoke to several people who called this proposal both outlandish and bizarre. >> since the cease fire was announced between israel and gaza, rami sultan has been getting photos of his family reuniting in gaza. >> example of that is my cousin with her son, who she hadn't seen in 15 months and actually assumed that he was dead. so

that was quite a beautiful moment to witness and see. >> sultan says his family described returning to northern gaza as knowing full well that they'd return to destruction, but still with a sense of optimism. then on tuesday, president trump announced his plans for gaza to force palestinians out. the u.s. would take over and turn it into the so-called riviera of the middle east. but many bay area palestinians don't think that will ever happen. >> it's kind of embarrassing because the solution is so bizarre. especially if you were to ask the vast majority of palestinians, would they ever leave gaza, even though it's been reduced more or less to rubble, they would never leave their lands. >> it seems like he was not sincere with the palestinians at all. it's a shock for our community. it's not only immoral and illegal under international law, but it's irrational and completely nonsensical. >> fadi hijazi says more than 150 of her family members were

i want to give a walkthrough of what has been going on with me. >> strahan. it's a name we know well around here. so you could imagine the shock and compassion when michael shared his daughter's brain cancer diagnosis. >> she told me at one point, i'll do whatever i got to do because i don't want to die. and i was like. wow. >> now, cancer free, isabella strahan is taking viewers behind the scenes.taking viewers behind >> to wish me luck. >> to her fight for survival along with her family rocked by this diagnosis. >> the first thing that went through my mind was this must be a mistake. it didn't seem real. >> you don't really think thel. worst until you get told the worst. >> she was just a freshman in college when she was diagnosed with medulloblastoma. it's a rare and fast growing type of brain cancer, especially in someone her age. >> and it's in an area of the brain that controls our balance.
