newsom just finished meeting with president trump in the oval office a couple of hours ago. >> abc seven news political reporter monica madden has been tracking the developments. and, monica, these two really don't have the best relationship, to say the least. >> historically, no. dan, but we just got a press statement from the governor saying that the meeting went well. and as you noted, the two have really had a hot and cold relationship over the years. so how their relations stand after this meeting is not just critical for securing relief dollars, but also for other federal issues impacting california during president trump's second term. governor gavin newsom is making his rounds in the nation's capital. the california democrat meeting democrats and republicans in congress hoping to secure federal funding to help los angeles recover from last month's devastating wildfires. >> what's on my mind is what's on everybody's mind in the state is can we get past partizanship. >> the governor's crucial oval office meeting with the president closed to the press. the white house tells abc news the meeting lasted more than an

hour. the governor's office said the meeting was, quote, very productive. it comes shortly after the commander in chief's visit to l.a, when the two revived their previously antagonistic relationship. >> you were there for us during covid. i don't forget that. and i have all the expectations that we'll be able to work together and. >> we're going to get it completed. they're going to need a lot of federal help unless you don't need any. would you be okay? >> i'm going to need a lot of federal help. >> so we're going to take care of things. >> in california. >> abc seven news insider phil matier says newsom silenced tuesday after the legislature signed off on 50 million to fight trump in court was notable. >> that is not the same governor and that we saw, let's say, a year or two ago. >> but he doesn't expect the two to be exactly friends in the future. >> newsom and donald trump, in many ways were made for each other. they're on both sides, polar opposites of the political spectrum, and they're on polar opposite sides of the country right now, and they represent completely polarized, different

ideas. how this turns out, i think the rest of the country is governors are looking to see just what happens on this match. >> now, newsom says he thanked the trump administration for their collaboration on these issues during today's meeting, especially thanking the newly confirmed epa administrator, lee zeldin, for sending 1000 workers to southern california. now, remember, trump has been saying that he wants to make the aid conditional upon california changing its water and forest management and voter id policies. so far, no word yet if that is still the case. dan ama. >> all right. thank you so much, monica. earlier in the day, president trump signed an executive order banning transgender athletes from participating in women's sports. this is the latest action taken by the white house targeting the transgender community. the president said schools that do not comply with the order could lose federal funding and face investigation. >> from now on, women's sports will be only for women.

>> this has never really been about trans people in sports, and particularly trans women and girls in sports. this has always been about trying to erase us from society. >> san jose state's women's volleyball team found itself swept up in the controversy this past season, and was targeted by trump on the campaign trail. several opponents forfeited games, claiming the team had a transgender player. >> some legendary latin music superstars are sharing a message of solidarity with the immigrant community. abc seven news reporter zach fuentes spoke with members of los tigres del norte, who surprised fans today in san jose. >> a big homecoming reception in san jose wednesday for los tigres del norte at this local nonprofit. the group's success is worldwide, but they say they haven't forgotten their roots. >> we are part of the community. >> the band's musical domination started right here in san jose. they spoke with us about their start in a conversation at our san jose bureau after wednesday's event. >> we've been in the bay area,

especially in san jose, for since 1968. >> they say they made the stop at sacred heart community service to empower immigrant communities and remind them of their rights. communities that say they're scared over deportation threats. communities with stories similar to the band members. >> this is where we came from, from mexico a long time ago, and it was something that we were illegal to, you know, like like everybody that comes to the united states, they come to have a looking for a better life. >> the band's visit was a huge surprise to people who regularly visit sacred heart for services. >> we saw the setup, so we're like, oh, what's going on? you know? and then they're like, oh, we're having los tigres del norte come over here to talk to you guys. so we were all like going crazy and just very happy and excited. >> still, they were strongly aware that they weren't at this event only to be entertained. >> it's a bittersweet moment because, well, we're here excited to see them, but they're here to talk about immigration and what the rights we have as

immigrants. >> a serious but critical message. the group said it's fought to get out through its music and events like this. >> we need to face these struggles right now, together as a community, preparing ourselves not to be misinformed. we have to go out and get information about what we can do and our jo, not only in music, but as as the messengers of that people that has been followed are our songs and our music for this for a long time. >> many of those followers saying the message has been heard loud and clear. >> knowing that los tigres del norte are here to support us and to let us know that we shouldn't be afraid. >> in san jose. zach fuentes, abc seven news. >> protests taking place across the nation today by groups opposing actions taken by the trump administration. thousands of people gathered in cities coast to coast for the 5051 movement. it included 50 protests at state houses in 50 states in one day. protesters

expressing their concerns on issues over the president's crackdown on illegal immigration and imposing tariffs on goods from mexico, canada and china. >> california attorney general rob bonta says he will not be running for governor next year. according to our partners at the bay area news group, the democrat will instead be seeking reelection to attorney general in two years. he says there are too many important fights ahead. while bonta never officially entered the race for governor, he had previously expressed interest in a gubernatorial campaign. >> let's turn now for a few moments to the weather as you take a live look outside at the sunny conditions. we're getting a really nice break from the rain before things change again. so for more on this, let's go to abc seven news meteorologist sandhya patel with information about the next storm coming. sandy. >> yeah, dan, right now soak up the sun and these beautiful views because things are going to be changing. we're already starting to see a few spotty showers and snow showers up along the northern california coast, but the main storm is still off the coastline. it is a level two on our storm impact

scale. it gets here tomorrow morning and as the ground is already saturated, any rain that falls on top of it could actually exacerbate existing issues. so creeks and streams have been running full tomorrow. those are the areas likely to expect some flooding. that's why the flood watch was issued for tomorrow morning until friday afternoon. that area in lighter green is a flood warning for the russian river at guerneville, which already crested and it's on its way down. 8:00 tomorrow morning, rain will be coming down. it will be light to moderate and widespread at 10:00. and then in pockets, you'll see some brief downpours for the evening commute. the winds are going to come up as well, gusting at times, especially near the coast, close to 50 miles an hour. this is a level two for tomorrow. rain, brief downpours, gusty winds, possibility of thunder and flooding as well. i'll be back with a full look at the timeline, plus your weekend forecast coming up. >> all right, we'll check back. thank you. sandhya. in the north bay, the storm damage is adding up. flood water is still an issue. and take a look at this.

a large landslide damaged a multi-million dollar home. this is on deer trail road in santa rosa. the homeowners say they lost their home in the tubbs fire in 2017 and rebuilt it, just to lose it again in this landslide. almost the entire first floor is filled with mud. fortunately, at least no one was injured. >> in the east bay, richmond police shot and killed someone last night and it appears the person was not armed. the california department of justice says it will now conduct an independent investigation, which is required by state law. in these cases. the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. on the union pacific railroad. police were trying to arrest someone accused of domestic violence and a probation violation. they say the person refused to surrender, and there was a brief standoff before police opened fire. authorities have not yet said why the person was shot or how many officers were involved. >> san francisco is launching a new plan to deal with the drug market in the sixth street corridor. the city is creating an outdoor triage center where

sfpd officers will process drug users and dealers they detain. the hub will be set up in a parking lot on stephenson street near market and sixth, a jail transport van will be stationed there, ready to bust those who are arrested to jail or take them to get treatment. >> we are going to streamline all of our departments in one place so we can get people the help that they need. make sure that law enforcement can bring people to get the help that they need. and really, this is going to be something that we're going to try because we have to try new things and we have to do it quickly. >> and they are trying it for a 30 day pilot program. and how it goes will determine whether the city continues with it. >> on the peninsula today, two groups of sheriff's deputies endorsed measure a. that's the initiative that would give san mateo county board of supervisors the power to remove embattled sheriff corpus christi cristina corpus from office following allegations of misconduct. abc seven news south bay reporter dustin dorsey has the story.

>> you deserve better. stand up against corruption and vote yes on measure a. >> a culture of intimidation, retaliation and corruption allegations made against san mateo county sheriff cristina corpus that have led to countywide calls for her resignation. now, the voters who may have once supported her have the opportunity to authorize her removal. >> they saw her as someone who is going to bring good things to the sheriff's office, into this community, and i think every single one of them is now against her. she has turned every single person who supported her against her. >> the san mateo county deputy sheriffs association, an organization of sheriff's sergeants urging voters to vote yes on measure a, which would amend the county charter and give the board of supervisors the power to remove sheriff corpus from office for cause. they say cause would include neglect of duties, misappropriation of public funds and obstruction of misconduct. investigations. >> measure a is a clear and immediate solution to restoring the integrity and accountability that our residents deserve in

the sheriff's office. >> sheriff corpus has filed an injunction to stop the special election, saying measure a is not about public safety, but rather a politically motivated attack. she has also filed a $10 million claim against the county, alleging unfair treatment because she is a latinx woman. but detective elliot stauch says calls for her removal have nothing to do with race or gender, but her actions. >> if she didn't do any of these things, if she wasn't abusing the people who worked here, if she wasn't fostering this climate and culture of fear and retaliation, none of this would be happening. >> the city of san mateo may soon join san carlos and millbrae with a vote of no confidence in corpus. meanwhile, these other san mateo county leaders say their next vote will be a yes on a. >> the actions of sheriff corpus have denigrated everything the county is trying to do to protect our communities. >> we cannot stand by and allow fear to silence the voices of those who seek justice. >> now is the time to hold our sheriff accountable. >> and measure a is that opportunity?

continue releasing annual diversity reports, which it has done since 2014. >> if you're looking to book a reservation to go to yosemite this summer, you are going to have to wait. the los angeles times reports that park officials need to get the revamped system approved by the trump administration. for now, people are unable to book visits from april through october. the popular yosemite attraction firefall, is not affected. it happens this month. reservations are needed for people who want to go on weekends and holidays. >> a pioneering political figure in the south bay now has a health center in her name. santa clara valley medical center's women and children's center has was renamed in honor of susan b wilson. she served on the county board of supervisors as a council member and vice mayor for the city of san jose. her two sons, grandchildren, and great grandchildren attended today's dedication. all very proud, of course. wilson's daughter in law spoke about how meaningful it is to have wilson's portrait now

is not going to bring the kind of damage that we saw yesterday. but it does bring some concerns. let's first start with live doppler seven here. locally isolated showers developed in the north bay earlier in the day. they're gone. there is a flood warning that is still going for the russian river at guerneville until 4 a.m. tomorrow. they already saw some flooding. it was moderate earlier this morning, cresting at 36.5ft. flood stage is 32, but it has started to recede. just keeping an eye on it to let you know. temperatures right now 40s and 50s. here's a look at the rainfall in the last couple of days we received quite a bit of rain. most areas were over an inch to about over five inches. in san rafael, there were a few spots like concord livermore, about 6/10 7000/600 there in brentwood. live view from our mount tam cam and it is sunny right now. overnight chilly night. areas of frost. tomorrow turns wet and windy. and for your weekend we're talking about cold mornings and sunny days. tomorrow morning frost advisory

for the north and east bay valleys. midnight to 9 a.m. mid 30s. that means it's going to be frosty cold tomorrow morning, so bundle up. coldest locations will be down into the 35 degree range for fairfield and napa and livermore. you will notice there's a lot more cloud cover tomorrow afternoon. we're going to see pockets of downpours and windy conditions. highs will be in the 50s and 60s. it's a level two storm coming in rain with brief downpours, gusty winds, thunder chance and flooding is certainly possible. 8:00 perhaps this is the time you are commuting. the roadways start to turn wet as we head into 10 a.m. it's widespread rain and then you will notice just some brief pockets of moderate to heavy rain going into the afternoon and evening commute. late tomorrow night it's going to be scattered showers, lighter in intensity going into friday morning, and then friday afternoon you will notice around noontime, focused south of here, 4 p.m. you're looking at isolated showers and it's done. rainfall totals with this system highest in the north bay over an inch there in the santa cruz

mountains closing in on an inch. the rest of you will be between about a third of an inch to a half an inch of rain. the winds are going to come up out of the south. 39 half moon bay, 11:00 tomorrow morning, close to 60 miles an hour along the coastline. you will notice it's gusty in our inland areas as well and still gusty late tomorrow night. a winter storm warning goes up for the mountains. 10 a.m. tomorrow to noon friday above 5000ft. we are expecting heavy snow up there with those gusty winds. very difficult travel so keep that in mind. i would hold off if i were you. the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a two for tomorrow, a one for friday and then after that your weekend for any outdoor activities is good to go. we're going to have cold conditions in the mornings with frost likely we'll see frost and freeze warnings going up. our next chance of rain will be a slight chance tuesday, but a better opportunity for wet weather on wednesday with a level one so ama and dan we're getting a little break in between. >> good storms. we need it. yeah. thank you cindy. >> well, a legendary bay area tv
