abc seven mornings live. >> now at six, we start with a live look outside. this is from our tam cam. you can see it's pretty dark and we are expecting rain today. after a dry day. another storm is moving in right now. drew is tracking the impact on your commute and the changes coming for the weekend. >> i can't tell what is going on with that shot. is it just blurry or what's going on? also,

a second strain of bird flu, the discovery found in dairy cows in the u.s. and this will impact how much you pay for eggs. the increase we could see because of the outbreak. >> plus, celebrating a classic cookie. a restaurant inside the ferry building. opening up a cookie counter when you'll be able to get fresh baked goods. yum. >> meanwhile. cookie. >> any time we talk about food. >> just immediately go to the cookie monster. we do have rain coming up. that okay, this is what it actually looks like outside. it's clear right now that's going to change in, what, an hour or so? >> yeah. you can see live doppler seven in the corner of your screen. that rain is on approach. so we had a nice break from it yesterday. now we're back into the stormy weather. here's the bigger picture on live doppler seven along with satellite. low pressure is moving in today and that will bring the rain this morning and the wind this afternoon. here's a closer look on live doppler seven. we are starting to see some very light sprinkles across the city. parts of the east bay shoreline, some steadier light showers developing around santa rosa points to the north, but you can see the heaviest rain right now is still about 60 to

90 minutes away from moving onshore. and once this rain is here this morning, it's on and off all day. this is a level two on the storm impact scale for those showers, gusty winds this afternoon and the chance of thunderstorms. so looking at the rainfall chances once this rain spreads across the region this morning, it's with us all day long. the afternoon is not only rainy, but those winds 25 to 50mph. we have a flood watch in effect for the north bay for good reason. this is an area that saw really heavy rain on tuesday, and the likely see some of the heaviest rain today, so we could see some issues of minor flooding on roads and some smaller streams and creeks there. let's check in with gloria, see how the commute is going. >> good morning. >> yeah, we are starting to hear about some sprinkles out there, but really nothing really heavy enough to impact your morning commute at this time. that could change in about an hour where we're going to see some heavier rain, so definitely plan ahead for that. this is a look at our overall map, mostly in the green, which is nice not seeing too many incidents or backups right now. we do have one thing that we want to tell you about though. over on westbound 92,

the san mateo bridge, there's a stalled big rig there, so that's causing a little bit of a delay this morning. and hopefully they will clear that soon. i know they were having some tow trucks go out there, so we'll keep you updated on that. looking at our bay bridge toll plaza, camera metering lights are on and it is starting to back up to the middle of the parking lot, but it's actually not too bad. you can see cars are moving through highway four to san francisco. 43 minutes and richmond bridge camera. you can see right there that it is sprinkling a little bit, a little bit of wet roads, but again, nothing too major at this time and traffic is flowing nicely. so we'll keep tracking this for you throughout the morning, guys. >> thanks, gloria. let's take a look at some new images showing how high the russian river is right now. an evacuation warning is in place for parts of unincorporated sonoma county and the city of santa rosa because of flooding and landslide risks. the russian river is in the moderate flood stage and more than 36ft in certain areas, and flooding hasn't been the only problem for people after this week's storm. landslides are

also an issue. >> this one took out a home that was rebuilt after the tubbs fire. it was one of at least five across the bay area since tuesday. you can see others on this map, including in the telegraph hill area of san francisco. that's where abc seven news reporter lena howland is live this morning. lena. >> hey, amanda, good morning to you. san francisco public works says their crews are expected to be out here at telegraph hill, working to start the cleanup process on this landslide that happened on tuesday night. now, you can still see quite a bit of damage here where the slide broke through the retaining wall and fencing before spilling out onto samson street. public works officials say they lost about 400yd■!t of rock coming down frm the telegraph hillside during tuesday's storm, but they say they're lucky no one was parked or walking nearby when this happened, avoiding any injuries. specialist engineers were out inspecting the area tuesday night and wednesday morning,

making sure the houses at the top of the hill were safe. and while those houses above aren't deemed to be at risk at this point, there is concern on the ground. >> so i was just telling my friends right here that i don't think i'm gonna commute using this sidewalk anymore. it's because what if it rains again and the same situation happens? >> we're going to be out here regularly now through this rainy season, and make sure that this hillside remains stable and safe. and if it doesn't, we're going to do whatever we can to keep the people safe and keep them away from. >> this wasn't the only landslide we saw during the storm. this is all new drone video showing a landslide that came right into a home in santa rosa, where two people were rescued tuesday night. we also saw a landslide in fairfax and another landslide in forestville. one lane of traffic will continue to stay open here on sansome street, while crews work to start the cleanup process. live in san francisco. lena howland, abc seven news. >> all right, lena, thank you.

and you can track today's storm using the same live doppler seven tools our weather team uses. download the abc seven bay area app for the latest forecast and updates on the storm as it rolls through the bay area. >> the trump administration's plan for widespread layoffs among federal workers is set to begin today. the sweeping, so-called reductions in force are being organized by the office of personnel management. a resignation package being offered allows workers to leave voluntarily, and they'll get paid through september 30th. but employees who don't accept the deferred resignation offer could still lose their jobs and get no compensation. this morning, governor newsom is in dc, where he's working to secure more federal aid to help with wildfire recovery efforts in southern california. yesterday, he became the first democrat to sit down and meet with president trump since the inauguration at the white house. the meeting went on for more than an hour, despite claims from trump that he wants any aid to be conditional. the governor's office says the meeting was very productive. >> newsom and donald trump in

many ways were made for each other. they're on both sides of polar opposites, of the political spectrum, and they're on polar opposite sides of the country right now, and they represent completely polar different ideas. how this turns out, i think the rest of the country is governors are looking to see just what happens on this match. >> so far, no word if the president will hold off aid unless california changes its water, forest management and voter id policies. >> the price of eggs continues to spike. many grocery store shelves are empty. and gloria, this is an issue that experts are warning is a long way from getting better. >> yes. unfortunately, the department of agriculture is warning that egg prices could go up another 20% this year because of the ongoing bird flu outbreak. and now there is a new concern. a second strain has been discovered in u.s. dairy cows. it was detected last week in nevada. the same strain is linked to a patient who died in louisiana. previously, it was only detected in birds and people who had contact with

infected birds. >> because it's been transmitted so rapidly among cows, the worry is that that new strain that caused people to get sicker when they got it might be more easily transmitted. >> there have been 957 confirmed cattle infections in 16 states in california this week. health officials confirmed bird flu in a backyard poultry flock in san mateo county. 32 dairy farms across the state have tested positive for bird flu in the last 30 days. there are at least 38 confirmed human cases in california. more than 40 million birds have already been euthanized, and officials expect that number to go up by another 15 million. experts say that we shouldn't expect prices to come down, or the supply of eggs to increase until the outbreak is under control. so it looks like we're going to keep paying those high prices for eggs. >> yeah. gloria. all right. thank you. tomorrow marks exactly one month since the fire started in southern california.

and this morning, a stretch of the pacific coast highway that just reopened monday is closed again. caltrans made the decision to close pch until tomorrow due to storms that could trigger mudslides where the palisades fire burned. the first storm hit tuesday afternoon, with the heaviest rainfall arriving overnight into this morning. >> this is a major impact on our residents. major impact on our small businesses. major impact on our school kids. this is just this is a lot of impact from one disaster, and we're going to be feeling it for a while. >> essential workers like first responders and utility crews will be allowed on pch this week. residents will need to seek alternate routes until it is safe to reopen that stretch of the highway. the los angeles area has a long road to recovery ahead if you'd like to help. the red cross is on the ground providing much needed aid. you can donate to them by using your phone to scan the code on your screen, or by going to red

cross.org/abc 609. >> and rain is back! live doppler seven showing you a warm front is approaching. we're beginning to see some light showers in the north bay. some mist, some drizzle around the city, the east bay, some of the heavier rain about 60 minutes away from moving onshore. so this morning, as the morning commute gets underway, we'll press on down into the city. the east bay, the peninsula. currently, you're just seeing some really light rain, some mist, some drizzle. we're about 60 minutes away from seeing some heavy rain move through here. so as we head deeper into the morning commute, the rain will get steadier and it will get heavier. here's a live look from sutro tower. starting to see some raindrops on the lens, giving us that fuzzy view. the day planner will show you you need the umbrella. you need the rain jacket all day. so as you step out the door, grab those things. as rain returns here this morning and then throughout the afternoon. it's not only downpours we're tracking, but also some gusty winds. so a wind advisory is in effect starting at 10 a.m. some of the strongest winds will be along the coast as we head throughout the morning

developments in the trade war. president trump has started with china. the chinese government is now challenging trump's 10% tariff, with the world trade organization claiming they are based on false allegations. the move comes just days after the tariffs went into effect. the trump administration says it's an effort to stop the flow of fentanyl and undocumented migrants into the u.s. the white house paused tariffs on mexico and canada just before they were also set to begin. a special agent with the dea in san francisco tells abc seven news the fight against fentanyl is happening on both sides of the

u.s. mexico border. >> dea is absolutely in mexico, working with our partners down there, trying to stem the tide down there. >> diplomatic pressure has long been a way of trying to get china's cooperation. a former white house senior drug policy advisor says while tariffs can work, going about it so publicly can backfire because it risks potentially embarrassing chinese leaders. in san francisco, city leaders are launching a new program to deal with the drug market in the sixth street corridor. the city is creating an outdoor triage center where sfpd officers will process drug users and dealers they detain. the hub will be set up in a parking lot on stephenson street near market and sixth. a jail transport van will be stationed there, ready to take those who are arrested to jail or take them to get treatment. >> we are going to streamline all of our departments in one place so we can get people the help that they need. make sure that law enforcement can bring

people to get the help that they need. and really, this is going to be something that we're going to try because we have to try new things and we have to do it quickly. >> and we'll try it for at least 30 days. it's a 30 day pilot program, which the city could extend if it's successful. >> homelessness is another major issue impacting parts of the bay area. it's especially noticeable in san francisco. homelessness in the city is at record high levels about 8300 people at the last count in 2024. 13% of those are families with children. we're talking about more than a thousand people, more than 400 family units. the number of homeless families more than doubled since the pandemic, a bigger increase than any other demographic. three quarters of homeless families are living in shelters, not on the street. but that could soon change because the city is bringing back a pre-pandemic rule that only allows families to stay in shelters for 90 days. many are immigrants who are now concerned they'll end up on the street with their children as mass

deportations loom. >> if he wants to evict families from shelters after three months and then will let them extend for 30 days if they deem them worthy of those 30 days. >> in november, officials with the department of homelessness and supportive housing told the chronicle the policy was being changed to improve the effectiveness of their system and ensure there were beds for families with the most pressing needs. some are questioning if that change was needed. that same month, the city approved $50 million to expand shelter capacity for unhoused families. supervisor connie chan told abc seven news she believes the department has both the funding and capacity to house people in need. >> we are counting. >> down to the 2025 chinese new year parade. we're a little more than a week away to the big event on saturday, february 15th, inside san francisco city hall. last night, mayor daniel lurie already getting the celebration started.

minutes, you're about to see some heavy rain move across the city. the wider picture shows you we are tracking a warm front that does have some heavy rain that will move onshore through the next hour to two hours, so by 8 a.m. everybody is in the rain, and once the rain arrives in your neighborhood, it's on and off all day. this is a level two, a moderate storm on the storm impact scale for downpours this afternoon. we will have some strong gusty winds and thunderstorms are also possible. so here's future weather. by 8 a.m. this morning, everybody is seeing the rain and we will have some pockets of heavier downpours developing. and that is certainly the case. as we transition into the afternoon and evening, we will be tracking pop up downpours and the chance of thunderstorms underneath some of these downpours. if we see a really quick hit of rain, that could lead to some flooding concerns. winds will become an issue throughout the afternoon. not bad right now, but you can see they go up and up and up and up throughout the morning and in the afternoon. those winds are gusting 40 to 50mph. so we will likely have isss with trees coming down, some isolated power

outages as well. a winter storm warning is in effect. snow levels around 5000ft today. so once you get past, say, blue canyon on 80 and pollock pines on 50, you'll start to see that snow really coming down our highest peaks. talking 2 to 3ft of snow. with most of this falling tonight and all day tomorrow. so back here at home, it's all about the stormy weather. here we could see some thunderstorms. temperatures mainly in the 50s. take the rain gear with you. the accuweather seven day where a level two today. tomorrow morning we'll have some leftover scattered showers, but we're drier in the afternoon and that will give us a nice weekend on the way. we keep it dry through early next week before rain is back here by wednesday guys. >> all right drew thank you. now let's turn to ginger zee. she's live in nyack new york with a look at what's coming up on gma. >> good morning ginger. >> hi reggie amanda great to be with everybody. and i was just hearing drew we're going to be talking about your storm because it's the next one that makes its way across the country. but we

have a storm right now that everybody has been dealing with back to kansas from here. and so the next couple of hours will be seeing this frozen precipitation. i know my kids are pumped because they're off at school. a lot of people back to michigan. even so, if you're traveling this way, keep an eye on the timing on this one. also, the latest on president trump and elon musk's new moves to downsize the federal government, now spreading to the intelligence community, and what the white house is saying about the president's plan to, quote, take over gaza and the soaring egg prices. everybody is talking about it. some businesses and restaurants have even been forced to take some action. there's a new type of bird flu that's been detected in cows. so we're going to get into that story. and the super bowl is right around the corner. so we've got the gronk in new orleans with us. and we will be talking about the commercials because donny deutsch expert on that always brings some joy to the set. so you'll see all that and more on gma okay. >> like i don't know are the do you think the commercial is going to be good this year. i'm seeing very mid things so far. >> they're entertaining right.

need a boost from this month's nba all star game. the area has struggled in recent years with a reported 22% vacancy rate at the end of 2024, following covid, of course. but now global sports brands seeking to capitalize on the nba all star weekend will have multiple pop up stores. the nba all star weekend is set for february 14th through the 16th and will feature live music, merchandise sales and will also showcase the heart of san francisco's downtown shopping area. today is the nba trade deadline for the warriors. they've had a tough go this year, attracting top talent, but they just made a big announcement. they're in the works to finalize a deal to bring jimmy butler to san francisco. butler has agreed to a new two year, $121 million extension with the franchise through 2026 and 2027. to get him, the warriors are sending andrew wiggins, dennis schroder and kyle anderson and a

warm front this morning, so rain is spreading across the region from west to east. so live doppler seven is busy this morning. i want to zoom in here to southern marin county, the city, northern san mateo county, because we're about to see a line of some heavier downpours already moving on shore in the outer richmond, the outer sunset. and this will move across the bay bridge over the next 30 minutes. so you're going to see some slower commute times as we go deeper into the morning as this rain moves onshore. level two today for these showers and downpours. gusty winds this afternoon and a thunderstorm is also possible. so rainfall chances you can see they're increasing as we speak. and once this rain is everywhere by about 8 a.m, we're in and out of the showers all day long, with those gusty winds really peaking later on this afternoon. a flood watch in effect for the north bay, where we'll see some of the heaviest rainfall today. and this is the same area that saw really heavy rain on tuesday. so rainfall totals will wind up between a half of an inch and an inch of rain throughout the day. but winds are going to be an issue as well. a close look at that in

eight minutes, but let's check in with gloria and see how the commute is going. >> you know, we're seeing some sprinkles and some parts of the bay area, but it's really not impacting the morning commute just yet. that could change in the next half hour or so. so plan for that. give yourself a little bit more time because that rain could be coming down. this is a look at our overall map. and we want to zoom in to the san mateo bridge because we still have that big rig stall there on westbound 92 at the mid-span. the right lane is blocked and they do have a tow truck there, but it's taking a little while to get that cleared up. and right now we're seeing traffic is backed up from the mid-span towards the tolls. so you can take the dumbarton bridge to avoid delays in that area. we'll keep you updated on when that reopens. and in dublin we have a report of a multi-vehicle accident. it's blocking the left lane on southbound 680 before dublin boulevard. so traffic is really backed up in that area. reggie. >> thanks, gloria. in the north bay, many people are keeping an eye on the russian river. sky seven is showing you why. the storm we saw this week brought flooding to parts of sonoma county. evacuation orders are still in effect for some areas

this morning. and another issue following tuesday's storm landslides. one family who rebuilt after the tubbs fire watched as their home got destroyed again when a wall of mud came flowing through their property. what a terrible set of circumstances. that was one of at least five landslides from sonoma county all the way down to san francisco just since tuesday. abc seven news reporter lena howland is live at the scene in the city. this is the telegraph hill area where there is still a mess this morning. >> lena reggie aqui. that's right. engineers were out here yesterday inspecting the damage here at telegraph hill, and they say they feel what's left now is actually pretty stable, though they say they do plan to keep a close eye on it over the next few days, with even more rain on the way. telegraph hill was one of five different landslides we've seen across the bay area this week. two people needed to be rescued after this landslide came right into a santa rosa home tuesday night. sky seven

video caught another landslide in fairfax, and we also saw a landslide in forestville, which forced evacuations to low lying homes near the rushing river. one cal state professor we spoke with says he would use caution after some of these larger slides that prompted evacuations. >> i would be cautious for this, this large amount of rainfall for an extended period of time. if the area is getting landslide with, let's say, two and a half or three inches of rainfall. now same area may get landslide, but way lower amount of rainfall in in in 2 or 3 days or even a week. >> as for telegraph hill, san francisco public works says they lost about 400yd■!t of rock comg down from the hillside during tuesday's storm, but they say the house is at the top of the hill are not deemed to be at risk at this time. public works has also confirmed with us that their crews are expected to be

here on site, working to start the cleanup process. obviously they're going to have a little bit a little bit of rain to work through during that process as it is already here. live in san francisco. lena howland, abc seven news. >> thank you lena. this morning we're learning new details about a deadly police shooting. we first told you about yesterday. initially, richmond police claim the person that officers shot had a weapon. now it appears he was actually unarmed. the california department of justice says it will conduct an independent investigation, which is required by state law. the shooting happened just before 9 p.m. tuesday. police were trying to arrest someone accused of domestic violence and a probation violation. they say that person refused to surrender, and there was a brief standoff before the man charged at officers with what they thought was a knife, and that's when the shooting happened. the knife turned out to be a knife sheath. >> happening today. the next court hearing is set in the criminal case against xiang tao, the former oakland mayor indicted on federal bribery

charges. tao, her longtime romantic partner andre jones, and businessmen david and andy duong are accused of trading political favors for cash. they were charged in january, months after the fbi raided their homes. all four have entered not guilty pleas. tao faces a maximum of 95 years in prison, and an upwards of $1.5 million in fines. >> on the peninsula, we've been tracking the growing calls for the san mateo county sheriff to resign. this has been going on for months. tonight, those calls could grow louder. the san mateo city council is holding a special meeting to consider a vote of no confidence in sheriff cristina corpus gloria. that's coming a day after two groups of sheriff's deputies endorsed a measure that could lead to her firing. >> it is reggie aqui. the san mateo county deputy sheriffs association, an organization of sheriff's sergeants, are both urging people to vote yes on measure a next month. it would give county supervisors the authority to fire sheriff

corpus, who is an elected official. corpus has been accused of misconduct, including intimidation, corruption and an inappropriate relationship. she has denied those accusations multiple times, including in an exclusive interview with i-team reporter dan noyes last year. members of her staff say she has lost the support of nearly everyone in the sheriff's department. >> they saw her as someone who is going to bring good things to the sheriff's office, into this community, and i think every single one of them is now against her. she has turned every single person who supported her against her. >> corpus has filed an injunction to stop the special election next month. she says measure a is a politically motivated attack, and she's also suing the county for $10 million, claiming unfair treatment because she is a latinx woman. amanda. >> all right, gloria, thank you. the san francisco marin food bank has reported a data breach. it reportedly affected 60,000 people last may. the nonprofit organization issued notices

about that hack last week and had specialists investigate the breach. information like social security numbers, taxpayer ids, medical information and other sensitive data could have been included. the organization is working with law enforcement and has also changed its network passwords. >> the controversial bike lane in san francisco's mission district will finally start going away monday, the chronicle reports. that's when sfmta is set to begin construction, to move the bike lane from the middle of the street back to the side of valencia street. that change comes after a lot of complaints and controversy and months of debate, even threats of lawsuits. the final design is going to end up eliminating about a third of the existing street parking. it is going to preserve parklets in the area, which was something local restaurants wanted. >> federal workers face. >> a deadline today to take a buyout from the trump administration, or risk being fired. at least 40,000 government employees have already accepted the buyout.

that's roughly 2% of the federal workforce. and today, elon musk's department of government efficiency moves ahead with a campaign promise to shake up washington. the administration now targeting the cia and national security agency and potential cuts. critics say the move could put u.s. national security at risk. musk is also targeting medicare and medicaid, which serves more than 140 million americans. >> he is effectively shutting down an american government agency that requires an act of congress. >> the justice department's effort to assemble a list of fbi agents who worked on january 6th investigations that heads to court today. >> silicon valley representative o'connor says he was not there for the vote to subpoena elon musk. connor says the oversight committees vote was taken without notice, and several others also did not make it in time. representative connor has accused musk of violating the

credit union has been fined for the cybersecurity attack last june that impacted 500,000 customers. who could forget this when customers were locked out from their accounts for weeks and their personal information got compromised? the california department of financial protection and innovation ordered the company to pay a $100,000 penalty. the company also ordered to upgrade its cybersecurity and comply with state and federal requirements. nissan and honda both say they are still in talks to merge, despite reports that their deal is falling apart. there have been multiple reports that nissan's board is unhappy with honda's terms to get that merger done. in december, both companies agreed to negotiate for six months to see if they could come up with an agreement. if a merger were to happen, the new company would become the world's third largest auto group. and now we take a live look at the new york stock exchange as trading gets underway. and it is relatively calm this morning. we're up by about 20 points. >> and this morning we're getting a look at another super

morning. we are tracking a warm front that is beginning to move through. and then this cold front back here. this will work through later on tonight. so we're in and out of the rain all day today a closer look. we are now to see the showers start to ramp up in intensity as this warm front moves onshore. so across the city the rain has picked up in intensity. a similar story across the bay bridge, the richmond-san rafael bridge is also wet this morning. we'll take you to the south bay, where we're now starting to see some of this lighter rain move into san jose and about 60 minutes across the south bay, heavier showers will begin to develop by 8 a.m. everybody is underneath that shield of wet weather. so it's a level two today for downpours, gusty winds this afternoon and even some thunderstorms are possible. so here's future weather. everybody is in the rain later on at 8 a.m. as we head into the afternoon, what we will transition to are pop-up downpours. and underneath some of these downpours we could see a thunderstorm. and these downpours could create some isolated flooding potential, especially in the north bay, where we'll find some of the heaviest rain falling today. but even through the evening we will be tracking the scattered downpours. winds will also become a big issue this

afternoon. not too bad right now. it won't be too bad crossing our bridges this morning as the winds are pretty light. but this evening it's a different story as those winds gusts 40 to 50mph. so we could have some issues with trees coming down and some power outages. a wind advisory is in effect. a winter storm warning is also in effect. snow levels around 5000ft today. so snow really ramps up here late tonight and through the day tomorrow. highest peaks about 2 to 3ft of new snow. so we are anticipating issues on 80 and 50 certainly throughout the day as the snow begins to intensify. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. it's a level two moderate storm for rain and wind and thunderstorms. tomorrow morning, a leftover shower gives way to drier skies in the afternoon. then the weekend sunshine is back. but some cold mornings, saturday and sunday rain returns to the picture on wednesday reggie aqui. >> thanks to the golden state, valkyrie's first ever regular season is just over three months away, and the doors are now open on their new location to get the players ready.
