certainly was a wet day yesterday. here's live doppler seven along with satellite showing you the view across california. our atmospheric river that just soaked us yesterday, that's now in southern california. we're on the tail end of the shower. so here's the local view on live doppler seven. here's the final few showers working through the east bay, the santa cruz mountains. so we'll zoom on in here. we have a quick moving shower through fremont and dublin right now. livermore a couple of light showers around cupertino, san jose. once this line moves through over the next 60 to 90 minutes, we are done with the rain, but it is windy out there. you may hear the wind this morning. frequent gusts over 20mph and will keep it on the breezy side all day today, but we will find increasing sunshine as we head deeper into the afternoon. so here's future weather. the final few showers are out of here by 9 a.m. we are nice and quiet. we'll find sunny skies this afternoon, but it will feel a cool for your valentine's day. if you have friday night plans, you're good to go. we'll have clear skies, but chilly temperatures

dipping into the 40s by about 9 p.m. so looking at your highs today, increasing sunshine we're drying out and temperatures in the 50s. let's check in with gloria is going. >> good morning and happy valentine's day for you. so far today. it's looking like a much different commute compared to yesterday when we had all that rain. this is our map right now. no major incidents here, except actually, we do have a couple of sig alerts that we do want to focus on. san leandro, we have a sig alert on northbound 238, the connector ramp to northbound 880. there was a multi-vehicle crash that included a big rig and an oil spillage. it's currently blocking the right lane of the connector ramp, and that's causing a big backup in that area. so we'll continue to monitor that for you. we have another sig alert that's in place in the north bay, this one in sausalito on southbound 101 near rodeo avenue. and this happened last night. they're hoping that they reopen two right lanes by 8:00 this morning. but as of now, they are still shut down. guys.

>> gloria. thank you. now to the aftermath of the storm that swept across the bay area. crews have been working all night long to clean up this mess on southd highway 101 in marin county. sod if you are driving into san francisco this morning, be ready for possible delays. three lanes could be blocked while that work is still wrapping up. the chp says they hope to have all the lanes reopened by 8 a.m. >> in sonoma county, crews are dealing with flooding and mudslides for the second week in a row. we watched several cars drive through flood waters on green valley road in sebastopol last night. more than a dozen roads were. roads were closed in sonoma county because of the storm, and several more still haven't reopened after last week's win. >> in san jose. crews were called to rescue several people and pets on the guadalupe river. san jose firefighters rescued two adults, two dogs and four puppies from an island near coleman avenue and autumn parkway. one person had to be evacuated and warmed. animal care and services are assisting with the rescue dogs.

>> if you are going to the office today, you should have an easier commute. flooding plagued bay area roads for much of yesterday. in dublin, the ramp connecting southbound 680 to westbound 580 was covered with water during the morning commute. in oakland, flooding stopped traffic in both directions on shepherd canyon road in the afternoon, and fallen trees you saw there also became a problem. a 40 year old pine fell blocking skyline road. fire officials say many of these big trees are at the end of their lives, and strong winds are enough to knock them down. >> these 40 year old monterey pines, they are dropping. we've had them drop a number of times over the last couple of weeks. we want people to be prepared with a go bag. just be ready to go. >> and officials say some of the neighborhoods in oakland have one way out. so it's important for people to be ready for emergencies. they do remind everyone to avoid driving through flooded areas. >> and a live look now from our santa cruz cam. there is a high surf warning in effect and the wharf is closed today. it likely won't reopen until tomorrow. a

huge section collapsed right before christmas during a storm. capitola is also been keeping a close eye on the conditions during the latest storm. its wharf was heavily damaged in 2023. as a precaution, that wharf closed yesterday and will remain closed through tomorrow. several businesses also aren't taking any chances. they put out sandbags to keep the water out. >> it is not quite like december, but it is nonetheless big and dangerous and the words life threatening have been used, which is why you see so many closures. i think santa cruz has closed a number of beaches, state parks, has closed a number of beaches. >> the timing of the storm is a bit of a concern since today is valentine's day and monday is president's day. restaurants on the wharf say they are booked up and they're worried about their plans being washed out. hopefully that won't happen. don't forget you can track the weather anytime using the same live doppler seven that our weather team uses. it's available right now on the abc seven bay area app. just download it in order to get the latest forecast where you live. >> we are heading into a critical weekend for san francisco and its reputation on

what the city is calling all star alley. >> the city is decked out from those stores to chase center and inside moscone center. a massive fan event opens today. that's where we find abc seven news reporter lena howland this morning. good morning. lena. >> hey, reggie, good morning to you. we are at the nba experience. this is the nba crossover event set up inside of the moscone center. and they are geared up and ready to go for day one of their events. and just take a look at what they have going on behind us. they have those famous san francisco cable cars and so many different spaces here, including this one from at&t where folks get get the opportunity to try their hand at shooting a few hoops. now, officials say this is the intersection of the nba and pop culture. so there really is something for everyone here. you can shoot a few hoops, watch a dunk, a dunk contest, and so much more. there's also more than 100 players and legends that will be appearing here over the next three days. and let's not forget about the swag.

they've got ten different retail shops throughout the nba crossover floor. now this is a very hands on experience. if you couldn't tell already, including more than 15 places throughout the crossover floor for fans of all ages to bounce a ball and maybe even feel what it's like to be in steph curry's shoes. >> for kids, one of the most amazing parts of doing an event like this is to be able to see their faces light up and be able to, you know, meet some of their favorite players and get their favorite jersey and really take part in something that is special. coming to the bay area. >> there's also quite a bit of technology built into this experience. metta, coinbase and google pixel each have their own setup inside. plus, there's video games for you to try your hand at virtually shooting hoops with nba two k. the three day nba crossover event kicks off today at noon, and it will stay open on saturday and sunday from 10:00 to six. for now. reporting live in san francisco. lena

howland, abc seven news. >> thanks, lena j.r. duncan on that net yesterday. all right. here's a live look outside from our bay bridge toll plaza. we do have some wet roadways out there this morning, but the showers are coming to an end. we got absolutely soaked from this atmospheric river. look at some of these rainfall totals in the santa cruz mountains. as we approach six inches of rain yesterday alone. danville. more than 3.5in of rain. sfo, oakland more than two inches. a similar story in napa and even the south bay got drenched. san jose more than an inch and a half of rain. but now, heading into the weekend, we start to dry out and the winds will help us dry out. this morning. they just remain active. not nearly as strong as they were yesterday. they were gusting well over 40mph. but today, from time to time, we'll see winds gusting 2020 five miles per hour stays that way all day today and then late tonight. the winds really do back off for quieter conditions over the weekend. here's live doppler seven this morning. these are the final showers of our

atmospheric river. they're moving through the east bay, the south bay, the peninsula. once this line departs over the next 60 minutes, we are done with the rain. if you're traveling on 580, in the next 30 minutes, even 680, we see showers around fremont. livermore. a couple of light showers around san jose. and then again, this is it. we are drying out for the rest of the day. we do have snow continuing to fall. chain controls are in effect on all of our roads leading to tahoe. it's still heavy snow out there and from time to time we have seen road closures. so again today, do not try to travel up to tahoe. tomorrow will be so much better once the storm is out of here, but we're still measuring feet of fresh powder out of the system. let's look at your valentine's day planner today. the showers are ending this morning. we see a lot less wind throughout the afternoon, but it will feel cool later on today. expect a lot of sunshine by 4 p.m. we'll have temperatures in the 50s. you have any plans later on tonight? we're good to go. we're clear, but it is chilly out there. temperatures are dipping into the 40s. now, the weekend is going to be very nice across the region.

continue to track the last of the storm that slammed the bay area yesterday. on the right you see live doppler seven. you see those conditions moving away from us. but on the left, that's a live look at tahoe right now.s blizzard conditions. you see that snowfall and that wind must be pushing it all over the place. drew and gloria tracking a much easier commute this morning here in the bay area, though they'll have updates for you in just a few minutes. this morning, southern california is also dealing with the aftermath of yesterday's storm, gloria. it brought mudslides and debris flow in areas burned by last month's fires. >> it did. los angeles got the

most rain it's seen in a year. this week, the rain triggered some slides that have set mud filled with ash and debris right into the ocean. you can see some of this video right here. and yesterday in l.a. firefighter was caught in a flow and his car swept to sea. luckily he did survive. overnight, a well-known restaurant called duke's in malibu was flooded when a wall of mud came rushing down a hillside with more than six inches of rain expected in some areas. residents and crews had been preparing for days before the storm hit. >> we are getting a little concerned. we thought we kind of like ride it out, but i think we're probably going to head out. >> in the altadena area, crews said. a basin near the eaton fire burn zone to save homes from debris flows. several neighborhoods have been under evacuation orders and back in the malibu area. caltrans says that parts of pacific coast highway will stay closed until further notice. reggie. >> gloria. thank you. we're now just a day away from the chinese

waves in excess of 30ft, so that is life threatening conditions along our coast. do not go into the water. now the weekend outlook. we are dry saturday, but early sunday morning we do have the chance of a sprinkle in the north bay. let's first look at that high surf warning. this is until 3 a.m. tomorrow morning. waves are already elevated off the coast of the city, bodega bay. we have waves right now, 16 to 19ft high. we could easily see waves in excess of 30ft today. so be aware of that. the waves will calm down over the weekend. here's live doppler seven. speaking of things that are calming down, we have the final few showers now moving through the santa cruz mountains, the east bay right now. once this line is out of here, over the next hour we are done with the showers. so we are drying out this morning. and part of the reason we'll dry out a little bit quicker. the winds are active. they're pretty busy in oakland all morning long. we've seen gusts over 30mph. the winds remain breezy all day today. just be aware of that. but sunshine will pop out throughout the day today and it will make it feel a lot nicer out there compared to

yesterday. so the forecast we're looking at increasing sunshine, showers coming to an end. it's breezy temperatures though a little bit below average will be in the mid and upper 50s for daytime highs. we do have a dry evening ahead, but it starts to get chilly tonight, especially in the valleys of the north bay. a frost advisory has been posted for first thing tomorrow morning. just be aware of that. these areas in blue could see those overnight lows dip down to around 33 degrees. so overnight tonight we have clear skies. any plans you have tonight for the holiday? you'll be just fine. you don't need the rain gear, but do bundle up. overnight lows ranging from the low 30s to the low 40s under those clear skies. and the frost advisory. now for the chinese new year parade here in san francisco. tomorrow evening it will be dry. we'll have a mix of stars and clouds out there and temperatures gradually falling through the 50s. so you do need your layers, but you do not need the rain gear in the city tomorrow. now, early sunday morning, a weak disturbance will likely move through the north bay. some drizzle there, but for most of us on sunday it's just mostly cloudy and pretty quiet. here's the accuweather seven day

tomorrow, you can watch the parade live starting at 6 p.m. wherever you watch. abc seven news. >> a study detailing the state of america's land, water and wildlife was expected to be released this week. then the trump administration stepped in and killed it through an executive order. now, a group of scientists from the bay area and across the country are coming together. they're working to publish the study without the government's help. they say the national nature assessment would, for the first time, document both the challenges and opportunities we have with nature. it covers impacts from climate change to the economy to human health. >> as academics, this was the closest thing that we had to being able to give back to our country. but i think even more importantly, our communities. >> the group of scientists say they're looking for a platform that will publish the report and get national attention. the national park service has removed any mention of transgender people from its stonewall national monument website, and now only refers to people who are lesbian, gay and

bisexual. the stonewall uprising in 1969 is widely considered the beginning of the modern gay rights movement. the movement was notably led in part by trans women. the national park service has not commented on the change. it does come amid a series of anti-trans policies from the trump administration. the monument's organizers promised to fight for transgender representation to be restored on the website. >> robert f kennedy jr is now the health and human services secretary. the senate vote was 52 to 48. kentucky senator mitch mcconnell was the only republican to vote no. kennedy is a known vaccine skeptic, but has vowed to make america healthy again and reform the nation's public health agencies. a new federal study says bird flu infections may be spreading more widely than testing is currently capturing. the cdc says blood samples from veterinarians show evidence of past bird flu infection, even though they did not treat

that area remained shut down this morning. it forced people on the other side to find a different route. locals say when heavy rain falls, it's common to see this roadway shut down. a silver lining amid the stormy weather, california's reservoirs are filling up. water levels in santa clara county are now at 82% of normal. one of california's largest reservoirs, shasta lake, is now 82% full. shasta lake and oroville are both above normal for this time of year. that's according to the santa clara county water. experts and officials expect those numbers to go up with snowmelt and runoff. >> the last snowpack survey that they do in april really is the telltale sign of how we're going to do for our water year. so we'll wait for that before we decide on whether or not we had a really good season. >> despite a dry start to 2025, officials say the bay area is at a good place right now. >> while rain has been off and on, winds on the coastline have been consistent since yesterday morning. some of the strongest winds have been recorded on the

brighter news out here. we do have earlier sunrises over the next couple of weeks. the sunrise this morning. now before 7 a.m. we'll stay that way through the next couple of weeks. but in march, daylight saving time does begin. so we kind of erase some of those gains as we flip our clocks forward one hour. but still, we're growing in the amount of daylight we get each day. and by the summer solstice on june 20th, that sunrise at 547 in the morning. so here's live doppler seven. we've been telling you, we've been tracking the final few showers of our storm now moving through the south bay at this hour and the next 30 to 60 minutes, they are out of here. and once this line is out, we are done with the rain today. but the winds, they will stay with us pretty much all day long. they're pretty breezy this morning, especially in the east bay. oakland has been consistently gusting over 30mph. it's a similar story in the city right now where those winds are gusting 31mph. and that's how the day is really going to go breezy between 20 and 30mph. but we do have a lot of sunshine coming our way today. here's a look at the

us, including myself, have family that go to mooresville high school. to think that one of them could have been taken in this is very disturbing. >> records show the suspect sought help for mental illness and bullying. the 18 year-old now faces charges of conspiracy to commit murder and conspiracy to commit an act of terrorism. >> today, the two women suspected of crashing a car into an outdoor parklet in the mission district will be in court last sunday. the two women injured several people when they hit a parklet during a police chase. the driver is being charged with multiple counts, including hit and run driving that resulted in injuries and property damage. the other woman is being charged with resistingn arrest. the investigation into the police pursuit is still ongoing. >> two bay area transportation agencies could be audited in order to find out where our bridge toll money is going. state senator dave cortese wants california to audit the metropolitan transportation
