3:04 pm
and this is it. this is the final shower from our atmospheric river. it's pushing off to the south. and once this moves out of the south bay, the south bay will start to see sunshine over the next hour or so. here's live doppler seven along with satellite. the wider view showing you all of california was affected by this atmospheric river. we had a heavy rain in la yesterday that caused mudslides on some of the burn scars there. the snow is winding down this afternoon. we picked up 3 to 5ft of snow in many of our resorts. all-star weekend is here. it's looking fantastic in the city. we have dry skies today, a mix of sun and clouds. saturday. mostly cloudy sunday, but temperatures very pleasant. we'll keep you in the mid and upper 50s throughout the weekend. so 56 in the city today, 58 in san jose, 57 in concord, a high of about 56. in napa for evening plans, maybe busy uh- for valentine's day. we will have calm conditions, but it gets chilly pretty quickly. look at this by 8:00. we're already in the mid 40s, so you do want those layers. you can leave the umbrella at home. frost advisory is in effect for the north bay. temperatures

could dip as low as 33 degrees overnight. tonight we'll have clear skies. no rain in the forecast. that frost advisory is with us. just be aware of that for the chinese new year parade tomorrow. looking great. it is dry, a mix of stars and clouds throughout the evening, but keep those layers handy already into the 40s by 10 p.m. take a look at future weather early sunday morning. there's that chance of a little bit of drizzle in the north bay. otherwise, it's just a really cloudy end to the weekend. here's the accuweather seven day forecast drying out today. we're dry for the parade tomorrow. some early morning drizzle in the north bay on sunday. we'll keep it cloudy for the holiday on monday, and we'll keep those clouds tuesday and wednesday for brighter and warmer conditions by thursday. >> all right, many nba stars and legends are in town for all star weekend, including a hometown boy made good, a true underdog hero and role model. jeremy lin grew up in palo alto with a passion for basketball, received no college scholarships, went undrafted out of college, got signed by his home team, the warriors, only to be cut ending
3:06 pm
up on the knicks when he finally got a chance to play in 2012 with the team. when they were in the dumps, lin shined, sparking a seven game winning streak in which he beat the lakers and outscored kobe bryant. that was the start of what became known as linsanity. joining us live now from an event at the asian art museum in san francisco, the one and only jeremy lin. hi, jeremy. >> hello. how are you? >> good, good. it's great to see you. and i guess since you live in play in taiwan right now, it's. welcome back. welcome home. >> thank you, i appreciate it. it's definitely good to be home. >> i know, and you have so many friends and relatives here, but you're here for nba all-star weekend, right? so what are you doing right now at the asian art museum? >> we're about to have the first ever nba and aapi all-star reception, which i'm very excited about a lot of. yeah, just a lot of community leaders, a lot of people out here supporting. and the representation that we have is a first ever. so i'm very excited.
3:07 pm
>> that is really exciting. i got to ask you, i know you have a full calendar of events for all star weekend. do fans have a chance to meet you? >> yeah, i'm going to be able to. i have a fun event tomorrow uh. which, you know, i would love to be able to interact with as many fans as possible. and you know, today i get a chance to be at chase center coaching the team g league. so there will be a couple of events where we get to kind of interact with different people. >> that is really neat, right? just to be at chase center, home of, you know, the warriors, which was a big part of you as well. and i know tomorrow one thing you're doing is with the jeremy lin foundation. that is so important to you. what's that event that you're hosting? >> yeah, we have a few of our nonprofit partners. we're going to come in, we're going to hang out, get some good food, play, play on the next playground. and it's going to be a lot of fun. i mean, i think the biggest thing for me is just being able to hang out with some of the youth
3:08 pm
and really give back. and so just thankful for, you know, everybody for, you know, hosting this huge event and very excited for tomorrow. >> i know it's great because the kids get to play with you. so they get the mentoring, the skills clinics, but also it's support for the many foundations that really serve underserved communities in the bay area. right. >> but yeah. absolutely. >> yeah. no, no, i'm sorry to i don't mean to cut you off. what i was wondering is i know that a lot of those underserved communities are really worried right now about losing their funding or maybe having to even change their mission statements. i know that's something you've been keeping your eye on. what would you say to them? >> i think the biggest thing is to have hope. i think for us, just what we're focused on is just small, simple steps to support, to love, and just making sure that we have hope that we, you know, there's a lot going on in today's day and age. and so for us, just focusing on what are the small ways that we can make sure that we're there for each other, how do we
3:09 pm
support each other? how do we think outside of ourselves? how do we build teamwork, build solidarity? and i think that's, you know, something like all-star weekend, where you're bringing in so many different people, you're trying to build community. i think that's just so important. and even more important right now in the philanthropic space. >> yeah, i know i got to give a shout out, though, to one of the partners you have tomorrow, street code academy in east palo alto, right. teaching kids how to code and bringing all that to east palo alto. i think that's wonderful. look, ever since linsanity catapulted you to basketball stardom, you've been a role model to all underdogs. and certainly the asian american community, especially young athletes who think going pro is a pipe dream when you're asian-american. talk about how you grapple with that responsibility. >> it's something that i ran away from early on. it's something i didn't want, truthfully. but i think as time has gone on and i've seen and observed more of society and some of the kind of systemic injustices, i think that's something that i've been focused
3:10 pm
on and really just trying to be as vulnerable, as authentic and to kind of just take up my space unapologetically. i think that's something that growing up was not always in my comfort zone, but i think now more than ever, just being vocal. and the other thing is really working and partnering with other people. i think that's just something that i've learned to, you know, my basketball journey has always been kind of figure it out on your own or, you know, find a way, believe in yourself. but you know, more and more now it's really about community and togetherness. >> yeah, absolutely unapologetic about embracing your background, your heritage and sharing it with the world. right. and that brings me to the chinese new year parade tomorrow, which is going to be on abc seven. so hoping you could be a part of it. i know you have the all star nba stuff and not this year, maybe next year, but what are some of your favorite memories of chinese new year? >> you know, chinese new year was always amazing. we would always have a bunch of family friends come together for a huge potluck. we would, you know, i would get a lot of those red
3:11 pm
envelopes, and then my parents would take them away and i would never see money again. so that's one of the things i remember. but no, in all seriousness, it was just community. i think just being able to be around so many loved ones, eat good food and, and just to, you know, just, yeah, have have a good time of fellowship. i think that's that's really what, what i remember the most. >> i think that's you making dumplings with your brother there. right. and that's a tradition. right? because the dumplings look like nuggets. it means prosperity. and, jeremy, of course, you now living and playing professional basketball in taiwan. i know you get a lot of that. you probably been celebrating for two weeks, but how is life like there for your fans who want to know? how are you enjoying playing for the taipei kings? what's that been like? >> it's been amazing. you know, i you know, growing up wasn't as cognizant of maybe some of the leagues in asia. but now being out there playing there and you know, the biggest thing is playing with my little brother
3:12 pm
that has been just a dream, just like an actual dream, where sometimes we pinch ourselves and we're like, man, like we're actually on the same team together. and to be able to kind of just chase, chase our dreams to compete, compete for championships. and, you know, it's been a lot of fun. >> before i let you go, i got to congratulate you because i know last year you became a first time dad. that must have changed you profoundly. >> absolutely. it's. you know, everyone always tries to tell you or warn, you know, warn you in a good way or, you know, talk about what those feelings are. but it isn't really until you, you know, meet your own child where it's just a different feeling. so every day, no matter what happens once, once i, once i see my son, you know, i kind of forget about everything else that happened that day. so i'm definitely enjoying it. i really, really enjoy this phase right now. where where he's he's, you know, around ten months. >> jeremy lin that's fantastic.
3:13 pm
