saturday, february 15th. we'll get right to your forecast. it's certainly chilly out there. >> yes, we have plenty of 30, even a wind chill factor that makes it feel like it's in the low 30s out there. cloud cover is visiting us for the weekend. the rain for the most part, staying away until 9:00. we could see temperatures drop off below freezing in those highlighted areas where right now it's in the upper 30s in san jose, 35, livermore, 34. in danville, 44 at sfo with a you can sea swath there of mid 30s around sonoma, santa rosa, calistoga, 37 by the delta. everyone, anywhere from 9 to 16 degrees colder this morning and this morning. we'll stay in those 30s through the 7:00 hour. by about noon time we're in the low to mid 50s. mostly cloudy. and as we go through the afternoon, we're dry. we're in the upper 50s to low 60s with cloud cover hanging on throughout the day. it will keep us insulated tonight, and we'll talk about maybe a

few sprinkles for your sunday morning in parts of the bay. stephanie. >> all right. lisa, thank you. a major weekend in san francisco. the city is hosting nba all star weekend tonight at chase center as the state farm all star saturday night event. it includes the skills challenge, the three-point contest, and the slam dunk contest. we're also capping off lunar new year, and what better place to do that than in san francisco's chinatown? in just a few hours, the district is hosting an all day street fair. vendors are expecting to welcome crowds starting at nine this morning. grant avenue will be shut down between california street and broadway. and of course, you can expect to see traffic in that area. it all leads up to the 2025 chinese new year parade. tickets for bleacher seats are already sold out. this is billed as the largest parade of its kind outside of asia, and it's expected to draw tens of thousands of people. finishing touches are being put on the floats as we speak, and last night miss

chinatown was crowned. abc seven news reporter lauren martinez was there. as the excitement builds towards tonight's parade. >> number 40. >> miss chinatown usa crowned its newest winner in san francisco. 13 women representing chinatowns from across the country competed for the title inside the westin saint francis on friday night. >> it is the sisterhood. there is nothing else like this pageant. the community within it is something so special. >> ashlyn suey won the crown in 2023. >> electric. there is so much going on in the city and everything is just exciting. leading up to the chinese new year parade. >> the city is buzzing. earlier in the day, we found the colorful and elaborate parade floats that will make their way from market and second street and end on columbus. if you want to immerse yourself in the sights and sounds, visit

chinatown. 500,000 people are expected to visit this weekend. the chinese new year community fair will take place right here on grand avenue on both saturday and sunday. >> she. >> this pageant has celebrated chinese culture for decades. it brings a spotlight back to the community. crystal li won the crown in 2022. >> i really hope that with this special event and leading up to chinese new year, parade really brings in more tourism back to chinatown and make it alive again. >> alex fong, who helped organize the pageant, said keep an eye out for miss chinatown, who will be on the final float of the parade. >> so the great thing that sticks out to me is that how so many people come together, not just the chinese community, but everyone in san francisco comes together and helps support, you know, everyone together. >> in san francisco. lauren martinez, abc seven news. >> we look forward to having miss chinatown on our air during our 9:00 hour. well, here is the parade route. it covers a little more than a mile. take a look at the map on your screen. it starts at

second and market street. it will go down geary loop around union square, then follow post to kearney. the end of the route is at kearny and columbus. san francisco police will be closing streets along the route starting at 3:00 today, so plan accordingly. abc seven is the official home of the 2025 san francisco chinese new year parade. you can watch the parade live tonight starting at 6 p.m. it will be live on abc seven or wherever you stream. just blocks away from chinatown, the nba has taken over union square, the moscone center, and of course, chase center. fans are scattered across the city this weekend, taking in events and keeping an eye out for some of their favorite players and celebrities. kenny smith hosted a party last night at the exploratorium. smith is a former player and current television commentator. also there, charles barkley, who has repeatedly bashed san francisco and even threatened not to come.

he had a little different tone when our crew caught up with him last night. he says he has been in touch with mayor daniel lurie. >> i really want to thank the mayor. that was really kind of him, and i'm a spend some time with him because i want to do something to help, you know, san francisco has been great to the nba, and i want to do something to help. so but i do. i really want to thank the mayor for reaching out to me. and we're going to do something. >> headline rolling loud. >> barkley says so far, he's had a good time exploring the city on his own. well, basketball fans are taking over moscone center for the nba crossover. it allows fans of all ages to shoot h, dribble and even dunk like their favorite players. plenty of the courts offer unique quirks like robotic baskets or led walls you see here. we caught up with a couple of diehard warriors fans from fairfield, who brought their granddaughters to the city for this experience. >> we're all family, full of basketball fans, and we just

caltrain is also participating in the all-star rewards program, where riders can check in for prizes at three different stations. san francisco bay ferry will provide service to chase center from oakland and alameda for all-star events in the north bay. all lanes of highway 101 in sausalito are back open this morning. thursday's level threes storm caused a rockslide that blocked several lanes at rodeo drive right before the spencer avenue exit. that's in the southbound direction. caltrans crews worked all day on friday to clear the debris. the santa cruz wharf and nearby beaches are expected to reopen today. this comes after high surf warnings forced them to shut down this week. you may recall a 150 foot section of the santa cruz wharf collapsed right before christmas day. it reopened last month, and the city at this point does not appear to be rebuilding it. just yesterday, governor newsom. just

prison could be repurposed by the trump administration as a migrant detention center. that's according to our media partners at the east bay times. a federal prison worker confirms ice agents have conducted assessments at the facility this week. he says a structural assessment of the prison was carried out over the summer and has since been turned over to ice. two months ago, the federal

bureau of prisons announced plans to close the compound after years of sexual abuse led to scores of lawsuits. bay area researchers are raising concerns over the president's recent cuts to a global program that's been significant in reducing risk of hiv and aids. president trump says he will unlock treatment funding, but preventative medications are currently being kept from the lgbtq plus community worldwide. abc seven news reporter tara campbell explains. >> as president trump's push to shutter foreign aid continues, the world's top hiv aids researchers, including right here in the bay area, are sounding the alarm. >> it's only been stopped for two weeks, and already people are not getting their medications. >> doctor monica gandhi is the director of the ucsf center for aids research. >> there is a model that every nine minutes a child is dying of hiv. right now, in face of these cuts right now. >> the u.n. aids agency warning more than 6 million people

come out with next. willow is definitely the favorite. you'll see it in this show today. willow has an effect where kind of explodes in the air, kind of, and kind of falls down slowly and keeps that sparkle coming down all the way and hangs in the air for a little while. it's great. our guys have previously added electronic matches to each firework so that they can be tied into our firing system, and then we drop each individual firework into an individual tube or gun. the show is very precise in terms of where you want the effects to happen. so there's obviously different locations and, you know, plans it out through a computer program, syncs it up to music. you know, plans, knows exactly where each effect is going to be. we have to precisely put the pods out in the right positions so that when the fireworks do shoot off, that they happen where he planned it to happen. the software we use to choreograph shows is called finale 3d. it allows. >> us to synchronize fireworks to music. it 3d renders the fireworks so that we can make sure the fireworks pop off at

palestinian prisoner society, israel is expected to free 369 palestinian prisoners. prisoners, that is, during this ceasefire. back here at home, the san francisco sheriff's office is investigating an incident inside city hall. three men dressed in doge shirts and wearing maga hats walked into several offices claiming to be a part of the department of government efficiency. they demanded digital information related to alleged wasteful government spending and fraud. employees refused and called sheriff's deputies, but the men had already left. investigators do not believe this was a legitimate doge inquiry. california officials are keeping a close eye on a lawsuit filed by the trump administration against the state of illinois over its sanctuary policies. so far, the white house has not targeted california in the same way. abc seven news political reporter monica madden investigates why. >> we want people to comply with

the law. >> in her first lawsuit as u.s. attorney general, pam bondi is targeting states she says are resisting federal immigration law. >> new york has chosen to prioritize illegal aliens over american citizens. as you know, we sued illinois. new york didn't listen. so now you're next. >> could the golden state face similar action? we asked our sister station, wabc in new york, about that state's law that the trump administration is targeting. >> people who don't have the proper documentation, perhaps, to be in this country, can present themselves to a dmv office and get a driver's license. one of the rationales for going after these green light laws, because they they prohibit the state from sharing that information with federal law enforcement. of course, state officials say that's actually not true. >> california's dmv law is similar but does not go as far. the golden state sanctuary state law did get in the judicial crosshairs of trump's first term and survived a court challenge.

some democrats in the state legislature want to take immigration protections a step further, and are proposing to limit state prisons cooperations with ice officials. theperations governor's office tells abc seven news that newsom has always been opposed to protections for immigrants who were convicted of felony offenses or serious misdemeanors. >> not taking a chance and not taking that opportunity to punch california around. immigration in particular, is something that, you know, it really comes out of this attempt, i think, by newsom to placate, you know, the president on all these levels. >> political consultants like jim ross note newsom is making a calculation based on the state's need and perhaps his own ambition. >> i think that he believes that to get elected or to run and be effective running for president, california has to do well. and for california to do well, it needs support from the federal government. >> it doesn't mean california is in the clear, with trump officials vowing to go after anyone who gets in the way of promises for mass deportations.

in san francisco, monica madden, abc seven news. >> well, this weekend, two events in the bay area to honor the national day of remembrance of japanese americans incarcerated during world war two. first, to organizers in san francisco will host the bay area day of remembrance, carrying the light for justice. then tomorrow, the san jose, nihonmachi outreach committee is hosting its 45th annual day of remembrance ceremony. both are meant to commemorate executive order 9066, which led to the incarceration of japanese americans during this conflict. this week, there is a call to remember that history to avoid repeating it. it comes amid concerns about mass deportations of immigrants. here's abc seven news reporter luz pena. >> it's been 83 years since florentino miller's life changed forever. she was six years old when she and her family were forced into a concentration camp
