they're advancing recognition. technology could give the aerial technique even more capabilities. >> to actually automatically detect and track the sharks in the imagery. >> a sort of facial to fin recognition, including size, motion and potential behavior. chinmay lalgudi says the platform could work with multiple drone models or other types of photo survey technologies, with the potential to fast track field research and make it easier to work in remote areas. >> where now you don't need all this human expertise and effort and time it takes to annotate this data. instead, you could directly apply our pipeline and a future version of our pipeline to then automatically detect marine organisms, from sharks to whales to etc. >> the team believes it all holds the promise of unlocking secrets by being in the right place at the right time, with airborne algorithms that can recognize what they're seeing. team member jaden clark. >> and then it goes out, finds a

very rare animal, kind of observes this behavior, and then goes back and makes itself and then continues the survey later. i think that's really a pie in the sky idea that a lot of ecologists have that are using drones. but i think we're on the way to getting there. >> dreaming big with a project that could someday help accelerate our understanding of the marine environment around us. at stanford. drew tuma. abc seven news. >> the expedition itself was funded by a grant from the stanford woods institute for the environment. now, speaking of sea life, a seal pup is probably grounded after running away from home last week. a driver spotted this little guy just wandering on the off ramp of 101 north. it all happened wednesday night. the driver called chp and together they helped the seal get back home into the san francisco bay safely. yeah, we like to see stories like that. >> we really do. >> hey, the weather for the coming week, that has a happy ending. >> it does. and it may get your

seal of approval. here's a look at what's coming our way. we'll start with overnight conditions. partly cloudy skies will be periods of clear skies, but clouds will be moving through from time to time. overnight lows will be mainly in the low to mid 40s, but a few locations up north like lakeport, santa rosa, over eastward just a bit to uh. fairfield will have lows down into the 30s. so a little chilly in a few north bay spots. then highs tomorrow under mostly sunny skies in the afternoon, 56 at half moon bay and at other coastal locations. up to about 60 around the bay shoreline and up to about 60 only in our inland areas as well, except san jose, which will get up to about 6263 degrees. now let's talk about the midweek rain. there's a system coming our way that will produce some light rainfall on wednesday, mainly in the north bay. it's going to move through very quickly and have very little impact, although it could produce a few wet spots on the roadways. so just bear that in mind. but after that, clear skies for the entire week ahead. here's the accuweather seven day forecast. it starts to get a little bit milder on tuesday, even through wednesday's light rainfall,
11:49 pm
but the really mild weather comes at the end of the week. friday high temperatures inland and around the bay shoreline around 68 degrees, up to about 70 on saturday and 72 on sunday. so this is going to be an early preview of spring. it's going to be just a beautiful end of the week and weekend next week. >> that forecast was signed, sealed and delivered. >> thank you so much. >> it took me that whole forecast to come up with it. >> but you did. >> i'm trying. all right, let's get to larry and chris at thrive city with a preview of sports. >> there were some highlight reel moments during all star weekend. i've got a couple of favorites. i'm going to share some. >> from the game, and also some from the entire weekend. san francisco to oakland. the bay area showed up for all star weekend. we have it all coming up

in this all star game, but the weekend has come to a close. a few things to point out. really important. the city of san francisco and oakland. this was a banner weekend on both sides of the bay. look, even charles barkley now says he likes the bay area. what he didn't like was the new all star game format, where you have four teams. some guys want east versus west. some guys want team usa against the world. the nba will tweak it. we'll see what they do. but mixed opinions for sure. >> absolutely. but i think for the young guys, a guy like trace jackson davis a chance to shine on a bright stage. he was excited to be out there. and he joked during the game that there was no way the ogs weren't going to lose. they they challenged him there for a while. larry. he kind of joked that the script was leaked, that they at least had to advance. and obviously steph did his thing, but draymond green didn't like it at all. he was very verbal on tnt, but let's hear from the guys who actually did play in tonight's game. >> i did have some input and a lot of conversations with with adam and the rest of the
11:54 pm
leadership on where we were last year. we needed a change, needed some, some some new life, new juice in the game, something kind of unexpected. what that answer was is collaborative effort to, i think, one, condense the amount of time you're actually playing so that it gives us more clarity on like, all right, if we so we can raise our level of competition and, and keep it fun for everybody. i think that was a big part of it. obviously, a lot of conversation around the fourth team and the rising stars and the all star experience on sunday is very sacred, and you have to work your way into that. but i think it was a good step in the right direction. >> if anything, i think it picked up the urgency. you know, it was like you can't just be giving away layups. you know, i think over the last couple of years you see guys just walking in, laying the ball up, just kind of free for all. and our number one message was like, they got to make shots. like we're
11:55 pm
not letting dudes just walk in here and lay the ball up. and i think naturally that made you have to just put a little bit more into the game. >> trying something different to see what kind of works and sticks. so i guess they'll look at it and kind of see compare it to what it was before. i guess we'll see what we do for next for next year. i guess format was cool. i think the toughest part was like they stopped the game to do the presentation while we was kind of like halfway through it. i would rather play without breaks. >> but i had fun nonetheless. i feel like it was a little bit more towards the competitive side tonight, which is a good feeling. step in the right direction. i guess it's up to the guys that handle all that stuff to figure out what's next, and how to keep making it more and more interesting, and hopefully we get there one day. >> you know, you could see both sides of the argument. some players like the old wy east, west, some want, you know, team usa against the world. but give me your favorite parts of this all-star weekend. >> there were so many, but i think saturday at oracle arena was what it was for me. you saw the practice session. i actually

wish i was there. i was here saturday night and i absolutely had a lot of fun. but to see steph back in the building, all the nostalgia. dame lillard, an oakland kid, you felt the vibe through the tv, through social media, 47 seasons of history and for the nba to not only incorporate san francisco, but oakland, i thought was a major success and a win for this whole weekend. >> absolutely. i've got two favorites i couldn't decide. the first one, mac mcclung, the savior of all star saturday. he was dunking. i mean, over a kia with a guy coming out of a sunroof. i mean, it's just the most ridiculous thing ever tied with a young man we saw tonight. jaren barajas won $100,000, hitting a deep three in a contest with dame lillard, who might have been slow playing things just a little bit in terms of how he was shooting. i want to wrap up the weekend. >> yeah, i thought it was a win for the nba. i thought it was a win for the bay area, not only on the court. obviously steph was the ambassador, the ambassador for the bay. he wins
11:57 pm
the mvp. but all the off court activations, the legends that came to town, just a huge win economically as well for san francisco. >> absolutely. it's going to be a huge win for us because there's pizza, there's burgers. >> tacos. >> brownie, uh- that we're going to have to do a tug of war over. that's what we're going to be doing next. for now, for chris alvarez, larry biel abc seven sports, sponsored by river rock casino. >> all right. thanks, guys. and reminder that you can watch all of our newscasts live and on demand through the abc seven bay area connected tv app. it is available for apple tv, google tv, amazon fire tv, and roku. just download the app now and start streaming for free. well, that's it for tonight everybody. i'm dion lim. the news continues tomorrow morning at 5:00 for spencer and chris and larry and all of us here. thanks so much for joining us. have a wonderful
