>> yes, nice to be here. >> and it's good to see the two of you. >> you too. we've got a nice holiday coming our way. really quiet to start the week out this morning. it's just partly cloudy skies out there. we'll take you to our rooftop camera here at kgo along the embarcadero, and we're dry out there this morning. it will be a dry afternoon. just a light wind currently and current sky conditions across the board. we do find a little bit of cloud cover from time to time. not too bad. it will be a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. today it will be a pretty nice day. however, temperatures are cool right now and we do have a bit of fog out there currently. just some patchy fog in the north bay. we're down to a mile in napa, less than two miles in santa rosa. we'll watch those spots closely this morning, but we're not tracking widespread fog this morning. temperatures are in the 40s. 48 right now in the city. down to 41 in napa. with that fog. the cool spot right now. danville coming in at 39 degrees. so here's a look at future weather. let's go hour by hour for you. it will be a mix of sun and clouds. here. temperatures slowly climb into the 50s. as we approach noon and into the afternoon, we'll have daytime highs,

upper 50s, lower 60s, pretty close to where we should be for this time of the year. so do expect just a mixture of sun and clouds out there on our holiday. today will feel pleasant. we'll have a light breeze and temperatures close to average. let's check in with sue hall, see how the commute is going this morning. >> good morning drew and it is presidents day so we are expecting light volume out there. so far that seems toe true. taking a look at emeryville and the eastshore freeway. some nice gaps between the headlights. traffic is moving at the limit as you approach the macarthur maze. as we look at the golden gate bridge fog free this morning, you have three lanes in both directions to make your southbound commute into the city. it's looking great overall. look at all the green. even for our early morning commuters out of tracy in the central valley, there really is virtually no commute at this hour. we'll check back with some of the mass transit schedule changes in just a bit. >> thank you. sue. this president says some people might be trading work for the picket line. protests ae planned in the bay area and across the country to oppose president trump's recent actions

on everything from deportations to project 2025. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez in the studio with more on what activists are saying about today's events. >> good morning reggie. now those protests start at noon in san francisco and san jose. there will be similar demonstrations in other cities, including los angeles and news, york this president's day. they're organized by the 5051 movement that stands for 50 protests, 50 states, one movement. and organizers say that they want the trump administration to uphold the constitution and end what they are calling executive outreach. yesterday, dozens of protesters marched from san mateo city hall to san francisco city hall to oppose mass deportations of immigrants. the march was organized by four young advocates from immigrant families who formed the group rights over borders. >> we need to speak for the people who can't. we need to walk for the people who can't. it's we are here and we're we're so we have so much power that're some people don't even realize they have. so your voice speaks

accomplish on the court and uh- not ending the journey anytime soon. but again, for me and from my vantage point, having played here for 16 years and this is the only place that i've played. it's a it was just a great celebration of basketball in this area, and this is pretty cool to have to. >> and steph is the 15th player in nba history to win the all star mvp more than once. >> now the busy weekend in the bay area didn't stop the sideshows. in and daly city saw sideshow activity drawing large crowds as you see there. there was also one on the bay bridge around 230 sunday morning, causing a massive traffic backup. it's not clear if police made any arrests. police have been trying to crack down on sideshows, including installing new cameras and license plate readers to catch participants after they leave. >> new details about a deadly stabbing in san jose. police are now saying the victim was a 15

year old boy. the stabbing happened friday night at about 7:00 at santana row near stevens creek. a fight had been reported just before. police say all suspects ran before they got to the scene. they have not shared the names of the victim, nor the suspects. they're investigating what led up to the to that stabbing. >> we are tracking developing news out of san leandro. you're looking live as an investigation is underway after three police officers shot at an assaultice suspect last night. it happened near 164th avenue and east 14th street. police say officers spotted the suspect, and a short time later, they opened fire. but they have not released any details about why officers decided to shoot. no one was hurt. the suspect was arrested. the alameda county sheriff's office is handling the investigation. >> and take a look at how busy tahoe was this weekend. whoa. last week, storm bringing in nearly five feet of fresh snow in some areas, making for a great skiing weekend. sierra

tahoe reported they had over 3500 people at their resort yesterday. >> yeah, i figured a lot of people would be up there this weekend. we saw three, four, five feet of new snow last week with those series of storms. live doppler seven along with satellite this morning is showing you it's a really quiet pattern right now. we have a weak ridge of high pressure right off our coast currently, and that will create today and tomorrow dry afternoons. temperatures pretty close to average by wednesday. we do have the chance of a light shower, but it's very minimal and very low impact in the forecast. let's take a look at the water year. we made big gains last week. most areas are above average up to this point in the water year. so since october 1st santa rosa san francisco above average. the same story in hayward and concord. even san jose. this time last week we were about 5,055% of average. now we've jumped to 72% of average. we saw some heavy rain in the south bay last week, and now we're getting a break over the next couple of days. soa

first responders are calling off the search for a man believed to have fallen into the water off the embarcadero in san francisco. he fell in just after ten saturday night, along with another adult. crews rescued the other person near pier 32 and they are recovering. search crews used thermal imaging cameras, drones, powerful floodlights and boats for the search. firefighters say they looked for the man starting at six sunday morning, but called off the search sunday afternoon. >> in the north bay, layoffs are coming to close a more than $7 million budget deficit in the mill valley school district. the trustees voted unanimously last week to cut 40 full time and part time classified workers

to certified counselors and counselors aid. the board also approved cuts for one teacher and a music teacher, and to accept retirement buyouts from 27 employees. according to the marin ij, more than 425 parents and residents have signed an online petition to protest the cuts for counselors. >> new this morning, south korean officials have suspended downloads of the chinese ai app deep seek over privacy concerns. now, this app has been blowing up over the past few weeks after its makers revealed it was as good as u.s. rivals like chatgpt, but cost only a fraction of the cost to create. but there have been concerns from governments around the world about the ability of chinese government officials to access personal information of users. deep seeks legal m acknowledged they weren't familiar with south korea's privacy laws when the app launched in that country. >> you may have noticed the sniffles or sneezing. a lot of people calling out sick. health leaders in the bay area are raising the alarm about the flu.

cases are soaring, hospitals are getting busy. and flu season is far from over. abc seven news reporter tara campbell looks at why this year is becoming so bad. >> as the u.s. stares down the worst flu season in a decade and a half, cases are expected to continue soaring in the coming weeks. >> specifically in the bay area and in california. because we are later than the rest of the country, we're still on the way up. so, you know, i'm worried that it will get a little bit worse before it starts to get better. >> cases, hospitalizations and deaths are all trending up, according to the cdc. at ucsf, infectious disease expert doctor peter chin hong says the hospital is being pushed to capacity. >> we've been full for more than a week. kind of on the edge with a lot of people in the emergency department not having beds in the hospital. >> fong chao and his family weren't sick enough for the

hospital, but still had a rough week. >> we just recovered, so we're feeling good. that's why we're going out. but it took us out for about a week. >> there are two flus going around right now. it's three and each one, each three is just notorious for causing more serious symptoms. and people feel really bad. >> the latest cdc data shows around 13,000 deaths related to the virus, including 57 children. 11 of them here in california. >> the last time we had so many kids dying was in 2009 with swine flu, h1n1. so i'm worried because the season hasn't peaked yet. >> pointing to a low vaccination rate, particularly among children. >> vaccinations dropped in california from about 58% last year to the mid 40s this year. >> did you have the flu shot? >> we did not this year. we were going to, but then we kept putting it off and now i'm regretting it. >> but the good news, says doctor chin hong, it's not too late. anyone six months and up

should have the shot. >> don't forget that childhood immunizations have really saved our kids for the last few decades. >> tara campbell abc seven news. >> uber is suing doordash over its food delivery practices. the lawsuit accuses doordash of coercing restaurants into exclusive delivery arrangements and threatening businesses that also use uber eats with higher commissions. uber says the actions have cost them millions of dollars in revenue. both companies are based here in san francisco. doordash says uber's case has no merit. >> crowds packed san francisco's chinatown again on sunday for chinese new year celebrations with a parade over. yesterday was the final day of the community street fair. there were more than 100 vendor booths, activities and entertainment. this was on grant avenue from california to broadway. and we want to show you what drew and i saw as we celebrated on the trolley saturday. we waved at so many

warmest air in about six weeks, so circle this weekend coming up. it looks to be extremely nice right now. temperatures mid 40s low 50s right now. good morning redwood city 41. wee at 49 in fremont, 44 in livermore. the wider picture a little bit cooler in the north bay. 41 in saint helena, the same in napa, 39 currently in danville. here's the patchy fog improving conditions around santa rosa right now, but we are finding still some thick fog in parts of napa valley. down to a quarter of a mile at the airport there. so looking at the forecast today, we'll keep it under a mix of sun and clouds. a dry holiday ahead, mid 50s, low 60s winds out of the west 10 to 15mph. so highs today about 59 in oakland 60. in santa rosa we'll go to 56 in half moon bay, 61 in fairfield, 62 the high in san jose. looking at the evening planner, we remain quiet. pleasant will keep temperatures in the 50s through about 8:00 under mix of stars and clouds out there. post 8:00 those temperatures start to go into the 40s. now, we're not tracking an excessively cold night on the way, but it does get chilly later on this evening, with overnight lows mainly in the upper 30s

preview of some of the headlines you'll be hearing about this week. >> it is a critical week in both oakland and san francisco, as leaders discuss solutions to dire financial situations. tomorrow, sfmta's board of directors is set to talk about short-term options to tackle the transit agency's $50 million deficit. they have a plan for most of it, but still have to figure out $15 million in cuts. sfmta says it has ruled out charging for metered parking later at night and on sundays. several options are still on the table, including reducing muni service, cutting the school crossing guard program and some maintenance or eating up reserve funds. >> in the east bay. the oakland unified school board is set to vote on thursday on how to slash nearly $100 million from its budget. we previously reported the district could run out of money in less than a year if they don't make big changes. some of these options include closing and consolidating schools and even more staffing cuts. >> today is president's day, and that could impact some of your

conditional license for a vaccine for chickens. conditional licenses are generally used in emergency situations and for limited periods of time. politico reports 25% of staff in a central office coordinating work for dozens of labs responding to the spread of bird flu got fired. this is part of the trump administration's mass layoffs of federal employees. >> new details this morning about the condition of pope francis. he's been in the hospital since last week being treated for bronchitis. buting overnight, the vatican said he now has a, quote, polymicrobial infection and that's more serious and will require him to stay in the hospital longer. the 88 year old's public events have been canceled for at least several days. pope francis has a history of respiratory issues and had part of his lung removed when he was younger. after last month's devastating wildfires, southern california is now left to clean up after mudslides. last week's storms brought too much rain to burn scar areas.

this is in sierra madre, near the eaton fire. mud seeped into several homes and a dam overflowed, which is something the community says they haven't seen happen before. cleanup could take days to weeks, depending on the severity of the damage. >> firefighters on the peninsula say the lithium ion battery of an electric scooter exploded sunday, sending one person to the hospital. this happened in a residential motel in south san francisco used for transitional housing. the scooter was charging in one of the rooms when the battery exploded, starting a fire that set off the sprinkler system. the water damage displaced 38 people, and now they all need housing. >> one of the famous heart sculptures in san francisco will now be moved to be displayed in vacaville. this red and gold heart was recently dedicated near the corner of main and parker streets. it was sent to vacaville because of a partnership between sf general foundation, genentech and the city. the heart sculptures are a public art project introduced by the foundation in 2004 as a
