jose towards cupertino, about an eight minute drive. guys. >> great to see you this president's day. some people might be trading work for the picket line. protests are planned in the bay area and across the country to oppose president trump's recent action on everything from deportations to project 2025. abc seven news reporter gloria rodriguez in studio with more on what activists are saying about today's events. >> good morning. those protests start at noon in san francisco and san jose, and there will be similar demonstrations in other cities, including los angeles and new york this president's day. they are organized by the 5051 movement that stands for 50 protests, 50 states. one movement organizers say that they want the trump administration to uphold the constitution and end what they are calling executive overreach. yesterday, dozens of protesters marched from san mateo city hall to san francisco city hall to oppose mass deportations of immigrants. the march was organized by four young advocates from immigrant families who formed the group

weekend. >> in three point shot over damian lillard at the buzzer. shaq and kenny going nuts. >> all right jaron barajas from oakland. he beat milwaukee bucks star damian lillard to get the grand prize during the three-point shooting contest during last night's all-star game at chase center. that was just one of the exciting events during a weekend that really had san francisco shining. the positive attitude felt by both fans and city leaders. >> what better time to be living in san francisco and in the bay area? we got to show off all weekend. >> got a high five from draymond green and vince carter. yeah this is a great atmosphere. i'm like shocked. >> people we talked to visiting san francisco said they ventured well outside of thrive city over the weekend, exploring iconic city locations and getting plenty of good food. >> we are tracking developing news out of san leandro. an investigation is underway after three police officers shot at an assault suspect last night. it

happened near 164th avenue and east 14th street. police say officers spotted the suspect, and a short time later they opened fire. but they have not released any details about why officers decided to shoot. no one was hurt. the suspect was arrested. the alameda county sheriff's office is handling the investigation. now, the busy weekend in the bay area didn't stop the sideshows. oakland and daly city saw sideshow activity drawing in large crowds, as you see here. there was also one on the bay bridge around 230 sunday morning, causing a massive traffic backup. it's not clear if police made any arrests. police have been trying to crack down on sideshows, including by installing new cameras and license plate readers to catch participants after they leave. >> new details about a deadly stabbing in san jose. police now say the victim was a 15 year old boy. the stabbing happened.

happened friday night at about 7:00 on santana row near stevens creek. a fight had been reported just before. police say all the suspects ran before they got to the scene. they have not shared the names of the victim or the suspects. they're investigating what led up to the stabbing. >> you may have noticed the sniffles, the sneezing, and a lot of people calling out sick. health leaders in the bay area are raising the alarm about flu at hospitals are being pushed to capacity as cases and deaths go up. the latest report from the cdc shows nearly 13,000 flu related deaths in the nation, including 57 children. 11 of them here in california. experts say the rise is likely from a low vaccination rate among children. this year, only in the mid 40%. >> the two flus going around right now, each three and each one, each three, is just notorious for causing more serious symptoms. and people feel really bad.

>> children are particularly susceptible to more severe symptoms of the flu. vaccinations are the best way to prevent severe flu symptoms, and doctors say it isn't too late to get your shot. they are available for anyone six months and older. >> take a look at how busy tahoe was this weekend. last week's storm bringing in nearly five feet of fresh snow in some areas, making for a great skiing weekend. sierra tahoe reporting quite the crowd at that resort yesterday. >> it was incredible to see all that snow yesterday from those pictures in tahoe. we just got slammed with that atmospheric river late last week, but the weekend things certainly calmed down. and live doppler seven along with satellite showing you. we're getting a break from the storms. high pressure in control over the next couple of days. supplying us with a really nice holiday today. so let's take a look at where we are for the water. year after we saw all that rain late last week, we saw several inches of rain on thursday alone, so we're doing pretty well most areas. santa rosa, san francisco, hayward,

concord we are above normal up until this point in the water year. san jose has made huge gains this time last week. this number was hovering around 5,556%. now we're up to 72%, where we saw a couple of inches of rain in the south bay with those storms last week. outside this morning, partly cloudy. we will find a nice afternoon. really pleasant. sunrise today at 656 this morning a sun and clouds were dry. daytime highs mid 50s to the low 60. so looking at the forecast today a high of 58 in the city. we'll go to 59 in oakland 62 in san jose 59 in walnut creek. really pleasant later on today. light winds out there and we do keep it dry today and tomorrow. so the next three days, you notice that mix of sun and clouds today and tomorrow, temperatures in the 50s and in the 60s. but by wednesday we have a light shower. possible. not going to get a number on the storm impact scale. that's how low that chance is. but behind that system it gets a lot warmer. we'll show you those details coming up in just a few minutes. amanda. >> all right. drew. thank you.

off the search for a man believed to have fallen into the water off the embarcadero in san francisco. he fell in just after ten saturday night, along with another adult. crews rescued the other person near pier 32 and they are recovering. search crews used thermal imaging cameras, drones, powerful floodlights and boats for the search. firefighters say they looked for the man starting at six sunday morning, but called off the search sunday afternoon in the north bay. layoffs are coming to close to more than or to close more than $7 million budget deficit in the mill valley school district. the trustees voted unanimously last week to cut 40 full and part time classified workers to certified counselors and counselors aid. the board also approved cuts for one art teacher, one music teacher, and to accept retirement buyouts from 27 employees, according to the marin ij. more than 425 parents and residents have signed an online petition to

protest the cuts for counselors. new this morning, south korean officials have suspended downloads of the chinese ai app deep seek over privacy concerns. now, this app has been blowing up over the past few weeks after its makers revealed it was as good as us rivals like chatgpt. but only a fraction of the cost to create. but there have been concerns from governments around the world about the ability of the chinese government to access personal information of users. deep legal team acknowledged they weren't familiar with south korea's privacy laws when the app launched in that country. a major win for amazon. nearly three quarters of the employees at one of their fulfillment centers in north carolina voted not to unionize. more than 2400 workers voted against the proposal. the largest group of amazon workers to ever vote against unionization workers at amazon facilities across the country have been trying to join unions for several years. so far, people at less than a dozen

locations have been successful. >> people across the bay area held a day of remembrance sunday, marking 83 years since the executive order that led to the incarceration of japanese americans. a ceremony yesterday, kabuki theater in japantown commemorated the order that led to the detention and imprisonment of 120,000 japanese americans during world war two. men, women and children were forced onto trains and sent to concentration camps without due process. organizers say the event should serve as a cautionary tale. >> here. we're having a situation once again where the government is talking about imprisoning people based on their race because without due process. so i think our lesson. the object lesson here is that we don't want history to repeat itself. and that's why it's very important to have this kind of observance. >> survivors of the camps and their descendants led a candle lighting ceremony. >> crowds packed san francisco's chinatown again on sunday for

this morning, where we do have partly cloudy skies, a little bit of patchy fog in parts of the north bay. we'll show you that in one second. so here's a look at the accuweather headlines. it is a dry holiday today with a mix of sun and clouds throughout the afternoon. now heading into wednesday, we will see a weak wave of energy move through. northern california will try and bring us a light rain shower, mainly in the north bay. it's not a big issue by any means, and we're not even giving it a number on the storm impact scale. that's how light it will be. the extended outlook as we head into the later part of this week and this weekend. warmer weather is going to arrive. we're talking 60 and 70 over the weekend will be a nice weekend to get out and about. so temperatures right now we're mainly in the 40s and low 50s. morning, half moon bay. we're at 50 there, 43 in santa clara, 47 in castro valley into the 40s in the north bay, 40 santa rosa. we're at 42, though, in livermore. here's a look at the visibility map. just some real patchy fog out there. most areas where you see the number ten, you're doing just fine. but places like santa rosa, napa, livermore, we do have reduced visibility this morning. this

will linger until about 8 a.m. so just be aware of that. look at the forecast today. it's a nice holiday mix of sun and clouds dry today. daytime highs will be in the mid 50s to the low 60. so high 59 in oakland, 58 in the city, 59. in napa. we'll go to 62 in san jose, 60 in concord a high of 59. in palo alto this evening. it's quiet. it's pleasant. we'll keep you in the 50s at least through 8:00 under mix of stars and clouds. at that point, heading into nine, ten, 11, we do have those temperatures starting to dip into the 40s. not excessively cold tonight, but it does get chilly upper 30s to the mid 40s overnight tonight, partly cloudy skies and we'll see that patchy fog again in parts of the north bay. now tuesday is dry. wednesday. here's future weather. that wave of energy moves in first thing in the morning, likely a light shower in the north bay. even the chance of a sprinkle along the peninsula. the east bay right around 1030. but that's about it. this is not an impressive system by any means, and any rainfall is going to be extremely light. so look at the rainfall estimates less than a

tesla sales showroom yesterday. organizers say musk's work in the trump administration is bad for democracy. his role heading the department known as doge, has drawn a lot of controversy in recent weeks, largely because of his access and decisions as a non elected official. >> nba all-star weekend is over, but it could be felt in san francisco for quite some time. officials believe the economy will see a much needed boost. fans bought merch and spent money at local restaurants, hotels and pop up shops. officials are hoping to bring in about $350 million from this weekend. >> i've given san francisco almost $2,000. i am in the hole right now, but when i get home, i'll make sure i make it right. >> some of the ticketed experiences last weekend started at 500 bucks and went up from there. the hefty price tag meant plenty of people sought out watch parties and local bars and restaurants to catch the games. all of it feeding back into the city and giving businesses that boost. >> a program that helps the

city's unhoused is getting a big financial boost from an nba legend, who has been a critic of san francisco. charles barkley is donating $250,000 to support the glide foundation's work. glide ceo talked about the donation. >> he was really passionate on the work that we are doing. as people come into the meals line, the people walking to glide, we're talking to them about are you house? do you need food? are you looking for a job? all the sort of navigation services that we do. this money is going to continue to support that sort of operation that we do every day in the community at glide. >> and the announcement came after barkley spent a day volunteering at glide, which surprised the organization. they found out about the donation with the rest of the world. when barkley announced it on tnt's inside the nba show. >> developing news on the war in ukraine this morning, leaders from across europe are in paris for an emergency meeting to discuss how their countries will aid ukraine going forward. the

u.s. has not been invited. the meeting comes as u.s. secretary of state marco rubio arrived in saudi arabia overnight for talks with russia on ending the war. the talks follow a phone call between president trump and russian president vladimir putin last week. european allies and ukraine have been left out of the effort to negotiate an end to the war with russia. ukraine's president has said his country will not accept any agreement that they were not part of making. and now it's time for our abc seven mornings advancer a preview of some of the headlines you'll be hearing about this week. >> it's a critical week in both oakland and san francisco, as leaders discuss solutions to dire financial situations. tomorrow, sfmta's board of directors is set to talk about short-term options to tackle the transit agency's $50 million deficit. they have a plan for most of it, but still have to figure out $15 million in cuts. sfmta says it has ruled out charging for metered parking later at night and on sundays. several options are still on the table, including reducing muni

sculptures are a staple of san francisco, and one of them is on the move. but first, here's drew. >> hey there. >> 637 on our monday. we're taking a look at live doppler seven along with satellite. we are getting a break from the storms. high pressure going to be in control today and tomorrow, but we certainly had our fair share of storms last week. especially, you know, on thursday with so much heavy rain and heavy snow coming to the sierra. we measured about 3 to 5ft of new snow over the last 4 to 5 days. so looking at our current snow pack numbers, we're in pretty decent shape statewide. we're at 95% of average with our snow snowpack. the northern third of the sierra seeing the heaviest snow. in fact, that's where we saw most of the snow over the last seven days. a little bit lower as you head south. but we are doing quite well with our snowpack so far this year. we'll take you outside our rooftop camera here at kgo. it's going to be a pleasant holiday. very quiet sunrise here very shortly at 656 this morning. just a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. and do expect a dry afternoon.

sierra madre, near the eaton fire. mud seeped into several homes and a dam overflowed, which is something the community says they haven't seen happen before. cleanup could take days to weeks, depending on the severity of the damage. and an rv was cut in half when a large tree fell on it. this was in nevada county last week. a woman and her two dogs were trapped inside. firefighters say it took them 20 minutes to get everyone out safely. no one was hurt. >> now it's your morning money report. uber is suing doordash over its food delivery practices. the lawsuit accuses doordash of coercing restaurants into exclusive delivery arrangements and threatening businesses. that also uses uber eats with higher commissions. uber says the actions have cost them millions of dollars in revenue. both companies are based in san francisco. doordash says uber's case has no merit. amazon making a change that has a lot of amazon kindle users upset. it's removing a feature that lets you download your

to warm up here. look at those numbers by the weekend. saturday and sunday feeling like spring 70 away from the coast. >> guys i'm excited about that. all right drew thank you. cleanup has resumed for the iconic dukes in malibu. this comes after it was inundated with mud during last week's storm. the restaurant's front entrance was layered with mud and debris, forcing a pause on cleanup efforts. thursday, the famed restaurant escaped the palisades fire last month. workers were able to scoop up a lot of the mud over the weekend after the heavy rainfall cleared. duke's malibu has been open since 1915. originally known as las flores in. >> a teenager is now recovering after falling inside a mineshaft in placer county. cal fire released videos of firefighters rescuing the 16 year old boy. fire officials say the boy and his friends attempted to repel down a vertical section of the shaft last week, using ropes. the ropes snapped, causing the teen to fall about 30ft.

firefighters had to use a complex rope system and air monitoring to reach and secure him. he was taken to a local trauma center for treatment, and we are learning that the trump transition, or trump administration's mission to reduce government waste is now focusing on the irs. about 15,000 irs employees on probation status face possible termination as early as next week. this is just the latest move among the trump administration's effort to cut down on staffing. nearly 200,000 probationary federal employees across the government, leaving those who were laid off worried about what's next. >> we're under attack by billionaires, but i'm not a billionaire. so, you know, for me, the next steps are scary. >> officials at the pentagon are now bracing for potential cuts as elon musk continues to slash the government's budget. >> biologists have a new opportunity to keep tabs on california's small but rebounding gray wolf population.

wildlife biologists captured a radio collar 12 wolves. the collars provide detailed information about habitat and location. biologists can then share that information with ranchers about wolf activity. the california department of fish and wildlife says it will begin issuing annual wolf reports starting in april. firefighters on the peninsula say the lithium ion battery of an electric scooter exploded sunday, sending one person to the hospital. this happened in a residential motel in south san francisco used for transitional housing. the scooter was charging in one of the rooms when the battery exploded, starting a fire that set off the sprinkler system and that water damage displaced 38 people who are now in need of housing. >> one of the famous hart sculptures in san francisco will now be on display in vacaville. this red and gold heart was recently dedicated near the corner of main and parker streets. it was sent to vacaville because of a partnership between sf general
